“Home Depot Christmas Tree”

Heather E.
11/28/23

My husband and I decided after many years our pre-lit Christmas tree needed to be retired. We went tree shopping and found a great tree. It looks and feels like the real deal.

“What happened?”

Michele Q.

I was in home depot for 30 min before someone could help me. No one on the isles anymore, and it's all self checkout. What happened? It has gone so far down hill. Plants are SO over priced. Guess I'm moving over to Lowes.

We ordered carpet from Home Depot, and told the sales associate that we had a cardboard type flooring on top of the wood floor, the associate said it was ok because their latest promotion includes free "floor tear-out".

We took a credit card out to purchase the service and carpet, and we had a quoter come to our house, where we explained to him that the top level stuff had to come off because it was old and deteriorating.

Now the install guys come and say they don't do flooring, and they only pull up carpet, which isn't mentioned in the sales flyer given to me, and it wasn't mentioned by the two store associates (one who came out to our house to do measurements).

It is fraudulent they can put whatever they want on flyers and quoting sheets and not have to comply with their own promotions, which specifically says "floor-tearout", what would you think?

And this flooring was supposed to be installed within their guaranteed 72 hour time frame, which won't happen now also.

Worst company to do business with, the managers couldn't give a rats $#*!, so I filed a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General's Office.

Purchased 9k worth of appliances. Was told 3 months later (COVID delays) that they couldn't deliver to my home. We arranged to be delivered elsewhere, but asked to delay the delivery because building our house had COVID delays too. Was told the only thing they could do was cancel the order and place the order again. That would have cost us another 3k and no guarantees that our appliances would have been available. The customer service process included many calls with the escalated customer service line and more than a few snarky customer service agents, including being told I would be called back in 24 hours, then when I followed up 3 days later, I was told in a very patronizing tone that I needed to have some patience. We took the delivery but we will not be giving them about 40-50k of flooring, countertops, and cabinet work we were planning. I will never step foot in a home depot again. Dixieline and Lowe's will get all of my business from now on.

I ordered vanity and countertop from home depot Newton. For some reason when I receive the order they send me 2 countertop. That same day I went straight to the store and file a complaint. In short they schedule for a pick up fir the wrong order and ordered me a new vanity. Three days later someone called me saying my ordered will be delivered Saturday. The day came and no order was delivered. I called the store and they told me someone canceled my order, so I ask fir the store manager. The store manager never even lift a finger to take my call and just let the customer service lady who keeps apologizing talk to me. Is that the kind of manager you want to run your store, can't handle a call and at least pacify the customer. They want me wait another day to speak with the person who did my order. In the meantime my project at home is pending, paying the contractor for a job that the material is not available and they want me to wait another day. Great job home depot for hiring thus kind of manager.

Tip for consumers:
And by the way when you call for return there are some representative that are rude

Home depot is currently violating FTC laws in refusing to provide a prompt refund when delivery is delayed and later than the advertised and agreed upon time. I ordered a product that was supposed to arrive on 3/31, but it hasn't even shipped yet. It even says on the order page that it was supposed to be delivered 4/1 (already different from what was advertised, but still), and today's date is 4/2. I wasn't given any notice about a delay in shipping, and I do not consent to a delay. Therefore, HD must give me a refund, but I've talked to around 5 associates now and they all claim that they "cannot" follow the law and give me my legally entitled refund. One even said they couldn't cancel my order since it hasn't shipped yet, which makes no sense!

FTC Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule: The Rule, issued in 1975, requires sellers who solicit buyers to order merchandise through the mail, via the Internet, or by phone to have a reasonable basis to expect that the sellers can ship within the advertised time frame. The Rule also requires that, when a seller cannot ship within the promised time, the seller must obtain the buyer's consent to a delay in shipping or refund payment for the unshipped merchandise.

I've filed a claim with the FTC and I encourage anyone else in this situation to do the same, since it seems like their basic practice is to break this law.

Tip for consumers:
file a claim with the ftc.

Anyone interested in having carpeting installed at Home Depot using JW Floor in Las Vegas as subcontractor should ship elsewhere!
We purchased high quality carpet and paid extra to get extra carpet to reduce Seams. ' as we only wanted the Minimum of 1 vs 3.
On day of install the installer cut the carpet incorrectly and attempted to install with 3 Seams vs 1! The supervisor came out and agreed that the carpet was incorrectly cut and that they would have to reorder carpet as I paid extra to get double the sq. Ft., A month or so later carpet was in and available to install, so I scheduled the install again.
This time the installer laid the carpet and the seam was amateur workmanship! I notified Home Depot and JW flooring in Las Vegas. The supervisor came out to inspect and claimed it was acceptable and it was only noticable due to sunlight!
I walked him through the entire install of Cary showing him that the Seam was only visible on the last 4 feet! If you wish to see pictures feel free to request and see for yourself.
I have had 200,000 sq. Ft. If carpeting laid in my personal homes and investment properties, never have I witnessed such a unprofessional installation.

I will never patronize Home Depot moving forward and definitely will advise not to contract with JW Flooring! Based on our experience.
Do your due diligence.
We are now working to schedule a new contractor to and flooring company to purchase and reinstall
As the quality of JW Flooring / Home Depot standing behind the workmanship is unprofessional.

I placed an order for home appliances (Refrigerator, dish-washer, Microwave, Oven) which is a BIG amount order. During the order processing time as I was NOT sure about the refrigerator space dimensions and that's why I called it out and have Home depot Rep put in a special request for me for someone from home depot Kitchen cabinet department to come out and take a look to make sure everything will work just fine. I was told the cabinet guy will come 2-3 days in advance to check everything. Here is my current situation where no one from Home depot cabinet department showed up and the delivery happened. Refrigerator is ONLY 5% in and rest 95 % is sticking out and blocking the pathway. Not to mentioned about the side scratches which came from trying to push the Refrigerator in.
I was on customer support call for more than 2 hours to figure it out and left with no choice. I was not given any promising option by the rep or the store manage and Home depot won't let me even return everything and get my old appliances back. I really wish I wouldn't have bough this from Home Depot I think it's a good lesson learnt. GOOD BYE!

Purchased a dishwasher online which showed up a few days late (fine with that) but the unit was damaged in shipping so I refused to sign for the product and sent it back. I spoke with 2 customer service reps, one in store over the phone and one from head office over the phone. I was told it would be another 2 weeks and that I would need to pay 15% restocking fee. At this point I burst out laughing at the customer service representative. Why? Because I used Paypal for my online purchase which gaurentee's 100% money back on purchases. I purchased a new dishwasher from Leon's Which was in stock FREE delivery. After the 11th day I received a refund from Paypal (home depot did NOT contact them back about my dispute). So 2 weeks goes by and guess what shows up at my house? Home Depots delivery company with the dishwasher I refused to take. Zero communication between anyone at this company they wasted lots of time and lost me as a customer forever. DO NOT BUY FROM HOMEDEPOT... Ps. Paypal is simply amazing.

If I knew up front exactly how much everything would cost, I would have gone with a boutique shop and ended up with the same price and much more satisfied.

Once I made the committment and paid a deposit, "things" started getting added--oh that thing is separate and you need to have it, this thing is also separate and you need to have it... Gradually, what I thought was going to be about a $600 expense doubled. Even the day of the installation, I got a phone call saying I needed to pay for something that they should have charged me before but didn't or else they wouldn't come. Also had to end up driving to a store myself to buy yet another part (which they should have told me I would need but didn't) so the installation could be finished. It doesn't help when installation is separate from the store. They blame each other!

By the way, the order for one exterior door and one storm door, and was put in the second week of August. The projected date of installation was Sept. 11 (although the salesperson was very confident it would be done way before then, that it was usually the "latest" date that they put in). Of course installation happened today (Sept. 29) instead, since the item wasn't ready until after Sept. 20 (and it wasn't even a "special order").

They start with a minimum and then keep adding things and count on your resigned reaction because you have invested so much time and aggravation already. I should have had the guts to not let good money go after bad.

My 82 year old mother bought a dishwasher that she didn't need. It was delivered on Wednesday and we tried returning it on Saturday. Unopened and unused. But The Home Depot does not return appliances.

It turns out your not buying from The Home Depot but you giving them your money. The company who delivers the appliance is who you are buying from.

The Home Depot calls the company "Them ". I asked whom is "Them ". They are a delivey company.

The solution that The Home Depot sudjusted was try selling it on your own.

DON'T BUY APPLIANCES FROM THE HOME DEPOT

Ordered 4 windows in September 2021, 3 was in installed in November and the last one in middle of March 2022. They made mistake after mistake starting with the salesman placing one of the window's incorrectly.
Home Depot could never ever do a project in my house again. This was once a company that cared for their customers and now it's about coming to work for a paycheck. Without us they could not collect a check. I called so many times for updates and was promised a call back. I even received at least three emails asking me to signoff on a blank request so they could reorder my one outstanding windows. I let them know that I will not sign a blank page since it also stated I was making changes (which i wasn't) and they could charge me. It took four times just for the saleman to send me the correct document to sign-off on. I even wrote to the home office about my experience while it was going on and never got a response back. So as you can see this type of disrespect starts at the top and works it was down. Maybe to Home Depot my $$$$, did not mean much but to a person on a fixed income that is a lot of money. And to think before this happen I was thinking of using them to remodel my bathroom. Not in this life time.

Tip for consumers:
Double or triple check what a sale person write up before sign anything.

Ordered and paid for a front door with a sidelight on 5/30/23. They were to call when it came in and set up install date within 28 days or less. Called numerous times after the 28 days, phone not answered in the door dept. Finally came in on 6/30/23, the installer called me to see if he could install the door that day since he had a cancellation, and was installed at that time.
Front door had a dent in it so it needed to be replaced. Installer contacted Home Depot to inform that it needed to be replaced.
Called on 7/11/23 to find out the ETA, stated it would be in on 7/31/23. Called on 8/3/23 to check the status. Johnny told me he would call the manufacturer to find out why it hadn't come in and call me right back. Johnny did not call me. I called on 8/9/23 to find out the status, again no one answered the phone - it rang for over 7 min. Before they hung up on me. Called back two more times and finally Johnny answered the phone. Stated the door just came in and gave me no explanation for why he didn't call me back on Thursday the 3rd. He also didn't know when they could install it. In the meantime I can't set my alarm till the door is installed.
Very disappointed in their customer service support.

Well I have been having project in mind for about 5yrs now. But of course money will always be an issue. You seem like you're getting ahead then boom reality will kick in & another issue will occur. I was hesitant because i am new to all this. So I called a several people. The first one was a little pushy & said i needed this & that which is fine i know the house is a bit older but the price was higher by a full grand. The other lady i spoke with was nice but her estimate was satisfactory plus her completion time was outrageous but she was nice. So i did my research on prices for the supplies needed as much as i could do any way. So i called another gentleman named Angel Jose Turcios. He was up front & on time for our meet which of course a plus. His demeanor was relaxed & friendly. He had his research down pretty good when it came to cost of the materials. His cost was more realistic & honest & went with my budget. Decided to go with him & im glad he did. He would call me here & there & keep me updated with the status. He took his job seriously & just the little things he payed attention too made you feel that he cared about his work. So thank you Angel Jose Turcios with the Home Depot Referral program. I will continue to share my story with friends because my house looks great!

I am very disappointed at Home Depot's service and this is not based on a single incident but multiple incidents. At some stores, you may find staff to talk to and ask questions while at some, it is more difficult to find staff to ask questions if you need help. Even you had the customer service staff to page someone to come and help, that person may not show up for half an hour. Also, there is another incident where the blinds that I want to purchase are available online only, I ordered the blinds on the Home Depot website and wanted to use their Home Depot credit card promotion. The check out process for using the Home Depot credit promotion is not well design and as a result, my order did not get through. So I had to call the customer service number to place my order. The customer service staff told me that she fixed the problem; however, after a few days, I checked the credit card and found that nothing is charged to the credit card, so I checked my order status only to find out that my order was canceled! I was not notified about the cancellation of my order and until these days, I still don't know why my order was canceled by home depot. It is not that I am not used to shop at self service stores, I shop at IKEA as well, but my experiences at Home Depot really made me feel bad about shopping at this type of big self service stores and saw the downside of it. They make you feel so helpless!

I recently placed an online pickup order making sure that everything I wanted was in stock at the store. When I get to the store half my order was there, and the other half was being shipped to me. Screw me once. I tried to cancel the entire order but because they had somehow managed to sneak the home shipment in on me they could only cancel the stull in store. Screw me twice. Now, in order to get my money back on the delivery stuff I had to wait to get it all (shipped from different places at different times) and return it to the store. Screw me three times. I wanted to pick up and use everything that day. I had had a hard time placing the order on line but thought I was successful after several attempts. AT NO POINT did I see anything about home delivery as again, I had to substitute one item I wanted for another because the one I wanted was not in stock but the substitution had to be shipped to me. Now to rub salt into the wound. I am a disabled American veteran, and enjoy my discount which Home Depot recently changed getting access to. The day before I was told that I had to download the app. Lowe's does not make you do that; they use your phone number. Still, I downloaded the app and was trying to use it to get my discount but could not find anything on the app that showed it. The lady behind the counter was upset with me because I did not know how to pull it up but neither did she! Screw me the fourth time! They forced us to get the app and then get mad at us for not knowing how to use it when even they do not know how to use it?!

Tip for consumers:
Do not order on line, in fact do not even use them. Lowe's has better prices on most things as well as better selection.

I have bought three Torro Lawnmowers there with extended 3 yr warranty. I call them when it stalled out. I have to go to bathroom turned off the lawnmower. Come back out and it will not crank back up. Is is a 21" Self-propelled lawnmower that you don't have to change oil. They told me that since it was under the warranty from Torro to take it to Home Depot to have it fixed I had to pay $40.00 for them to look at it. So I called HomeDepot an told them that I was having to pay the $40.00 just to have them look at it. Some one at HomeDepot told me just to go back and get it and bring it back to the store and they would just give me a new one since in broke with in the first year of buying it. Did the Pandemic I didn't go anywhere plus I got sick so when I have able to walk better that it when I took it. I am disabled have to use rollator or wheelchair to get around. So I went back to The Mower Depot and told them what Home Depot said. So the loaded on my wheelchair ramp and I took it to HomeDepot and the man at service counter was very mean and told me the no one in the store would have told me that that they don't take lawnmowers back at the store except for the first 30 days. That I would have to take it back to mower depot and have them fix it. I ended up having to pay $135.00 to have it fixed. So I will not buy anything from HomeDepot again 2/19/22. I bought the lawn mower 7/14/20

Tip for consumers:
Go to Lowe’s they treat you better. Also my leg got hurt during my experience with HomeDepot. Plus if you go to Home Depot they have a lot of pot holes. While I was there a man have bought a Ceramic soap holder to put on the wall in his bathtub he hit a pothole he came in to the store and tell them now my ceramic soap holder is broke what are you guys gonna do about it they said oh the parking lots not ours so you will just have to buy another one. The parking lot belong to the Daytona Speedway

I ordered a smart washer and dryer with pedestals that cost ~$2800. I paid in cash and the payment cleared immediately. I had been warned by the store manager that the delivery company was a third party and to check my appliances for damage before the driver left. She informed me that they have received a large number of complaints for damage. That was a red flag and I should have just gone somewhere else to make my purchase. Being an essential worker who has worked 7 days a week for 7 months in public health, I took the day of delivery off. I waited patiently and received a phone call at 3PM notifying me that the delivery would have to be rescheduled. Needless to say, after a month of waiting for my washer and dryer, I was livid. The delivery company had no alternative but to reschedule delivery WHICH WAS NOT AN OPTION with my work. I called the 1-800# and after speaking to multiple telephone operators about my dilemma, I was told my only option was to reschedule delivery so I was left with no other option than to cancel my order. To top it off, the operator told me it will take 7-10 days to receive the cash I paid and cleared out of my account within 5 seconds of clicking the Purchase button. Lesson learned. DO NOT ORDER from Home Depot. They have decided that using these 3rd party delivery companies makes financial sense and as long as they keep completing orders, they will continue to use them. I will go to ANY of their competitors who value customer service rather than deal with a company who obviously does not.

I placed an order for supply of Samsung Washing Machine. The Sales Person informed me that they do not have the appliance in stock but can arrange for delivery on 17 September 2020. I accepted the terms and the order was processed. The Sales Person guided me to make payment using their payment device, payment was made using my CIBC Debit card. (Inc *******) Order No: *******. The Sales Person informed me that the appliance will be delivered as scheduled and a day before delivery I will receive a call confirming delivery schedule. I did not received any call on 16 September 2020 ans no delivery was made on 17 September 2020.
I visited their outlet on Morningside Store 7027 and spent the whole day with their staff to find out that they did not deliver the appliance because payment was not made. I produced a statement issued by CIBC confirming that the Invoice value was paid in full using my CIBC Debit Card but they insisted that they have not received any such payment as yet.
When I requested the staff to cancel the order, the staff could not cancel the order because they have started an investigation on the order and payment. I could not understand their procedure on processing orders and/or receiving payment and/or refunding against orders cancelled by Customers. Dealing with The Home Depot (for me) sounds risky.
