Lousy customer service
November 29, 2019

I was ignored. I was told that the advertised item that drew me into the store was not able and they tried to switch me to a more expensive one.

Did not have good experience with store in Livonia MI. The store manager was arrogant and did not listen to the honor the initial price.

First my credentials: I have spent way too much money on clothing from Jos A Bank. I must have purchased 15+ suits and 50+ shirts from them in the past few years. I think I am addicted.

It's a great place to go for (mostly) high quality mens clothing at decent prices. They bill themselves as selling super-high quality upscale clothing. The suits and shirts are usually good but not as high-end as they would like the customer to believe.

For those looking to buy a suit I would stay away from the "Executive" lineup as I have found the quality of those to be poor in several cases. Stick with "Signature" or better. I have had mostly good experience with Signature suits.

Non-iron / Wrinkle free shirts - These are their "Traveler's" line. They are average when it comes to non-iron performance. I have seen similar performance from cheaper brands such as JC Penney's Stafford and far better performance from Charles Tyrwhitt (the absolute best non-iron shirts anywhere), and Lord and Taylor's Black Brown brand.

Now for the not-so-good. Their advertising and selling methods are ridiculous. For example the list price on their Signature suits is $795. My average price paid is $145 for these suits. It is in any combination of "Buy X get Y free", Get X% off, Buy a suit get 16 ties, 12 belts, 4 shoes, and a haircut & shave for free. Point is the net price paid for these suits in whatever combination of discounts they offer will always be a similar amount.

As they run through a promotion, the price will decrease (in various iterations and offer types) until it reaches the low end of the range for that product ($143 for Signature and $118 for Executive suits seems to be the low end of the range).

I just wish they would just advertise a price for their product and sell it at that price without making the customer do all sorts of crazy calculations to figure out the price he is paying for the items. Two stars lost for this.

With all of this said, I keep going back to Jos a Bank because the clothing are of good quality and well worth the price paid. I just wait until the suits go to $143 (on sale) and the non-iron shirts go to $19.99 (on clearance) and stock up.

Unfortunately my wife gave me an ultimatum - either my overabundance of shirts went or I went so I had to take a break from buying for a while. Oh well...;-Þ

But for those who need good quality men's clothing at good prices, check it out.

Terrible experience
August 6, 2019

I got married in July of 2019 and had quite the experience with Joseph A Banks. We ultimately decided to buy 6 suits as oppose to renting them for my 5 groomsmen and myself. Everyone was helpful and knowledgeable in selecting a suit and sizing them accordingly. We paid for our suits and were told some would come to the store and some would come to our houses.

I received mine first with the wrong tie. No big deal. Called Ron and he said bring it in to switch it out which I did.
My brother was told his suit was suit was in on the 4th of July. He went in and the shirt was not the right shirt. No alterations had also been made which he was already sized for. The staff couldn't find the paperwork to get the right shirt and he had to be remeasured. A week later, they call him to come back, this time they forgot to hem his pants. Few days later, he goes back in and the sleeves on the suit are the wrong length and have to come back again.

Next groomsmen is told his suit is in. He goes in and it doesn't fit. Comes back the next week and it doesn't fit again. The jacket was too tight and he could barely move in it. On the 3rd attempt, it finally fits.

Another groomsmen and another problem. He is told his suit is done and goes to pick it up and no alterations were made. They remeasure him and tell him they will rush it. Goes back in and the pants weren't altered. Has to come back in another day. This time, they were hemmed wrong. Finally his turn out to be right.

Might I add, some of these guys paid as much as an extra $80 dollars to have alterations made which we found to be ridiculous and made multiple trips back and forth to finally get the right sizing.

I do like the suits quality and a lot of the products they offer. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly but they seem to be very disorganized at times. I called Ron when it was getting close to our wedding date and asked for assurance that two of the suits would be done. He never really accepted responsibility for any of faults and insisted nothing was wrong.

I would strongly recommend purchasing a suit from another store or just renting one and saving yourself a very large headache like this again.
