Horrible scam. Who would knowingly pay $34.95 per month for a resume service? My teenage son searched for "free resume" help and came upon this site. He thought he was agreeing to pay $2.95. He was charged several months for the unused subscription before it was cancelled. It cost him more for the "free resume" service than he earned at the summer job he got as a result.

Dear C R,

Thanks for your comments.

The free account is the ability to try out the Resume Builder to get a feel for how it works, and see what it has to offer before deciding to purchase. At this time we offer free text (. Txt) download of your resume, but if you want to print a resume to bring to an interview, email your resume/cover letter, or download a professional looking resume then you do need a subscription.

We are very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature for which you can cancel anytime and if you don’t cancel your subscription, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95. We state this feature on your payment confirmation page and again give you this information when we send you your payment confirmation to the e-mail address that you use when you signed up. We give you multiple ways to cancel your subscription: By calling our customer service number by live chat, by e-mail or you can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section to avoid incurring this charge if service is no longer needed.

A monthly subscription to Resume Builder makes tailoring, customizing, and creating cover letters and resumes really easy and fast. Many of our customers continue to use our service for several months during their entire job search

If you have any questions regarding your subscription our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: customerservice@livecareer.com

Best Regards,

Its the first time I've tried to cancel something (beside the usual and expected sales pitch to try to save) and they haven't given me the round about. Super professional and easy to chat online with a representative. I loved the service when i needed it and will be coming if i choose to again because of how easy it is to do business with them.

I purchased an annual membership with live career. Love the templates, used their professional writers to create a great resume and cover letter. Loved the service until i tried to duplicate the resume and save different versions. Talked with their customer service. Chatted online to a tech services representative the tech rep told me the site is not compatible with iMac and suggested i used a different computer to access their services. Why is this not referenced up front on their page? What a total con for what would otherwise have been a great service

Tip for consumers:
Love the site, just does not work on an iMac, so sign up but do not expect it to work for managing a job search

I paid $1.95 for a cover letter 18 months ago and immediately cancelled the account so as to not get further charges. Without checking my account I was charged 34.95 for every month! And I don't even have a resume! I never received a single email to my registered email account to say anything had been paid or auto renewed each month and have had no contact from customer support.

As others have stated you are openly allowed to use the site until you desire a downloaded copy of the resume youve been working on. At which point, having already done hours of work on your document you are asked to fork over cash to make the download. I paid the fee approximately 12 months ago, I have since unbeknownst to me being charged a ludicrous 4 week fee. I am a student and did not notice for a while, now having fallen on stiff financial times, I saw my account wiped for practically all of its contents. I must of paid hundreds to this site, its a mockery, I am not from US and thus the majority of the features are non-applicable to me. (another factor they forgot to mention). I tried speaking with their live help team, waited 15 minutes before I was told no one was coming and to try later. E-mailed, no response as of yet. Now I find my self unable to pay for the trip to university/college for the next three weeks to do my studies. Thanks a bunch live career

Hi Nicholas B,.

I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. We take pride in providing effective and valuable career, resume and cover letter assistance to hundreds of thousands of people. We also explain that the subscription is auto-renewing. We state this on every page in the purchase process and we send a payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings.

Our record shows that your subscription has already been cancelled via email on March 08 by one of our representatives. I have refunded 3 charges of $39.80 as a courtesy. You'll see it on your bank statement within 2-3 business days. I have also sent you a confirmation email for your records.

We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously. I would have given LiveCareer a rating of two and a half stars due to the fact you advertised FREE like all the other bull*****r's and it ended up costing again.
However, I thought it was clever the way you let the customer build their resume, and now we (the customers) are looking at the finished product excited about the prospect of using this masterpiece, and then realize there is nothing we can do about it unless we PAY! Well done.
On the bright side, you gave me options (prices) that were fair.
You gave the option to cancel at anytime.
And last but not least, There was no high pressure sales pitch trying to keep me from canceling, in fact, I was impressed by the customer service rep, she seemed truly concerned on weather I had found a job using your services.
So based on the whole experience with LiveCareer I will have to give your company a rating of four stars.
Thank You for your services.

The fee for this resume service is somewhat expensive, approximately $34.95/month. I have been subscribing to this site for a few months and created numerous resumes. They look professional and there are many options, however, they have several glitches in the software when creating the resume and it frequently freezes during "autosave" resulting in a loss of some of your data that you may have spent hours on. Called tech support and they said there was no way to retrieve the data. I would suggest finding a more reliable site.

I was happy when it came to the suggestions for resume writing. Some of those along with the different templates definitely helped me create a polished document. The only unhappiness I had was when I tried to download it in word. The spacing became crazy and there were missing letters in my words... Yes, missing letters. Thankyou!

Been a member for the past three months and this is by far the worst service I have ever paid for. Their formatting is complicated and is not compatible with MS Word. Their customer online is $#*!ty and even worse over the phone. I demanded a refund for last months payment and the $#*! told me impossible so i demanded to speak to a manager and after her telling me that i would receive the same answer I about lost my patients. I was placed on hold for a few minutes only to have the same person come back and tell me that my money was refunded. This is far from the professional company that I expected and would not recommend this $#*!ty service to anyone. My advice is to google resumes and copy their format bc its the same $#*! they have on the site that u pay $35 a month for. They dont even deserve a star. Wish I would have read the reviews 1st!

I am really glad I chose to use this service. I have been working since I was 16 and now I am 30, received bachelor's degree, associates, and also worked for a temp service for years. So being able to narrow those responsibilities for each job down into a few excellent key descriptions was worth the price.

The initial service was very easy to use. It is not, however, worth the aggravation. I cancelled and received a confirmation in October 2014 that my account has been closed. My bank account was charged again in November, December and January. I have called customer service and they cannot locate an account.

I subscribed understanding there would be a charge for the service. This big problem is trying to cancel. I used the cancel subscription button and I still was charged twice! Once for $35.80 and then two weeks later for $39.80. I called to make sure it was cancelled. Well we will see... hope no more charges come out or I am going to be livid. I would have given this company a 5 star rating until I came across the trouble of canceling.

I updated my resume at myperfectresume.com which is a "sister" website to livecareer.com as I was told. I too only signed up for the 14 day trial. But because I did not cancel my account they charged me 34.95. I called and explain my situation and I was told that I was sent an email, explaining this would happen if I didn't cancel my account. No where on the website does it say that you have to cancel the account or you would be charged full price. It's very very frustrating! I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone. One is better off doing their own resume themselves.

"We are very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature for which you can cancel anytime and if you don't cancel your subscription within the given period, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95." No, you are a scammer. If you made things "very clear" then you would not have dozens of downvoted reviews now would you? If you wish to run an honest company, DO SO. If you continue to take advantage of people, sooner or later you will be shut down.

Hi John,

We make every effort to let our subscribers know that our service is an auto-renewing subscription. Much like other services you use that auto-renew on a certain date (from your cable TV service to a gym membership), if we don’t hear from you, we assume you wish to keep your subscription.

A large number of our subscribers utilize our service throughout their job search, understanding that a customized resume or cover letter for each position for which they apply, greatly enhances the probability of landing the perfect job.

We wish you the best of luck with your search.

livecareer.com is a disgusting company, that believes $40 a month for a resume and cover letter ‘helper’ is an appropriate charge. They are the company everyone fears, for they wheel you in with no mention of cash. After you build the resume, all of a sudden it is two dollars for a two week trial. Ok, not so bad, two dollars to download a decent resume. But if you don’t cancel what is called a TWO WEEK TRIAL, all of a sudden it gets shoved into a full subscription. $40 a month. Do you get customer service? No, you get to call some out of country center, where they read scripts in bad English. Do you get help from writers for FORTY DOLLARS A MONTH? No, that is an extra charge. If you were smart enough to look up the companies rating before dealing with them, congrats. Don’t be $#*!ed like I was, by thinking they won’t screw you in the fine print.

After spending all morning building a resume I attempted to pay (yes, wasn't too happy after it said it was free but didn't want to waste my work) but could not download resume, and then could not access resume at all. I spent an hour with 3 different "help" people who kept giving me dumb advice and were not able to solve my problem, and I think made it worse. Eventually gave up an accepted fact I wasted a morning's work. Luckily my credit card info never went through.

They do state that you have to cancel your subscription or you will be charged monthly. I ended up deleting my account instead of unsubscribing. It was definitely misleading and confusing. HOWEVER, they were quick to fix the problem and refund my money. I appreciate good, quick customer service. The resumes do look really good, but also keep in mind: it's free to design, but not to print or download. This company has definitely been stepping it up.

I had an issue where I had not used my account for several months, and had even accidentally signed up for two different accounts without realizing it, and hadn't cancelled them properly in all of the confusion! The person I spoke with was very accommodating, explained each step of the process to me and ensured that I was able to receive a refund for the very confusing fees when I hadn't continued using Live Career's services. I was so pleasantly surprised to not have to jump through hoops to get back money I deserved to have refunded! Thank you!

My daughter made a"free" resume, but in order to print or save or edit, she needed my card to pay a one time fee of $2.95. Of course, there is fine print stating you have to cancel within 14 days... blah blah blah... but when you are paying a one time fee, you normally don't need to read the fine print for the 14 day trial, because that isn't what we were doing, Right? Wrong... read it all. Apparently, the one time fee is also associated with the 14 day trial. So, they charged me $39.80. I chatted with customer service and they told me it was a valid charge since I didn't cancel. I am now disputing the charge with my bank and Visa and had to cancel my debit card so I won't have a debit card for 2 weeks. I am so mad right now. I was actually thinking about using this site to make a new resume for myself... but NEVERMIND. I will take my business elsewhere. Sneaky sites like these should be monitored. Karma is a $#*!!

I would actually rate this 0 stars if I could! This company basically scams people into thinking they are only paying $3 for a 7 day period because that is the part that is in huge print and then in tiny print that probably no one sees it says they will bill you $35 a month if you don't cancel! So I didn't see this part and I got no other notifications and then I saw this taken out of my bank account. I mean come on!? Okay yeah I can see a monthly payment for this site, like maybe $3 a month! It is only a template site, for $35 a month?! And not making it upfront and clear for people to read?! I don't even pay that much for my gym membership! These people should be ashamed for misleading so many people and it is most likely people who don't have a lot of money because if they are creating a resume it means you are looking for a job and need money! Shame on you people!
