It is great to use for the 2 week subscription, but in the beginning I didn't even know there was a charge at all for using their services. I paid the 2.95 which wasn't a huge deal since I already made the damn resume- yep, you are sent into a great resume' building frenzy and go to print it and SUBSCRIBE NOW info comes up. I did see the cancel notification to not get the 34.95 charge and made myself a note. Well, as a single parent in school and working, it slipped my mind and I tried calling the number immediately when I saw a pending charge. The number wouldn't get through to anyone so thankfully they had a chat option. After I explained I used it for a homework assignment, do not need the services and I can not afford it in my situation, the rep typed out fabricated answers on the great benefits and then I got upset. Next they typed out, "Okay, I have cancelled your subscription and there will be no further charges", nothing about the ability to refund me. I was getting more upset and asked them to have someone call me immediately because I need the money for gas and groceries and now if I have this then I pay for something I am not using. They said they could only help via chat and a minute or two later finally said they refunded me. So eventually they solved my problem, but not before repeating 3 x's I can not afford it nor do I require their services and asking that someone call me. MISLEADING the first moment it lets you set up a resume' before giving you subscription information. I should have known better.

I wrote about this scam about a year ago. I was shocked when I went back and found so many more have been scammed with the same story. In the end, I gave up on getting my money back. The company still owed me approximately $700. I also ended up cancelling my credit card. Every review has someone who may be named Anna writing the same answer. I acted on her very courteous response and still didn't get my money back. They are based out of a condo in India, not San Francisco. It seems to be less expensive to hire Anna (?) then what the company gains. I read the fine print and called the company within a week of using the site and cancelled my subscription. Somehow, that phone call was not kept as a record. I went to what is supposedly their office in San Francisco, nobody there. Don't understand why they are allowed to continue operating in America. Tried reporting them to BBB but the company isn't registered here. There seems to be no recourse and they know it. Good luck! Hope you get some of your money returned.

Tip for consumers:
Scam, leave this site immediately. There are others that are just as good and are not scammers.

Dear Wendy,

Thanks for your comments.

We take pride in providing effective and valuable career, resume and cover letter assistance to hundreds of thousands of people. And yes, we do have a business office in San Francisco, CA.

We do not know exactly how you have cancelled the service, because we provide several ways: By phone, live chat, email and through “Account Settings “online. If the account has been cancelled successfully, a cancellation confirmation email is being sent automatically to the email address used to create the account. Cancelling a service successfully prevents you from incurring a monthly charge. The refund that was processed was given as a courtesy credit.

If you have any questions with your subscription, our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: customerservice@livecareer.com

I was extremely impressed with your customer
Service yesterday! As a client on a trial basis, impressed with the service but was undecided on if I would renew the service. I called in yesterday as I found out about a deadline for a municipality job that I was encouraged to apply to and needed my resume tweaked quickly as to send it. The help for a certain part that I couldnt fix from my end, but found out it could be fixed from your end, which then would allow me to then fix it and email it right away was refreshing. The CUSTOMER SERVICE that I recieved yesterday (and today) made up my mind to STAY indefinitely with My Perfect Resume! Thank you for the OUTSTANDING service, I cant wait to tell all MY family & all of OUR friends!

Thank God I checked my online banking today; I read all of the fine print when I signed up for the $3 14-day free trial, but somehow missed the fact that LiveCareer would automatically begin charging me $35/month immediately after the trial. I am a poor college student, and it's actually frightening that companies are out there advertising to help with career services at low cost and then have no shame about automatically deducting from your account. $35 is literally what I make in a week as a teaching assistant. Thanks for stealing my paycheck, LiveCareer.

Other than the whole deception thing, LiveCareer's services are great! If they plan to get more business, they ought to be upfront about the fact that they are going to charge you immediately after the trial; perhaps an email notification or something.

GOOD NEWS IF YOU NEED OUT: Call customer service and try all 3 extensions until someone answers the phone (they won't answer if you're not calling to become a new customer - I tried several times). Inform them that you want to cancel your account immediately, and they will send an email notification and stop charging you.

Dear Jessica,

Thanks for your comments and we appreciate your feedback.

We take great care in letting our customers know what they are subscribing to. It is not in fine print, but it is readable and can be easily understood. On our sales page, we explain that the subscription is auto-renewing, underneath the description of the subscription in bullet form, as well as in the confirmation email you receive once you subscribe.

We apologize if you were unable to get hold of our 3 extensions right away, but we accommodate all calls that are coming in. However, we do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings, if service is no longer needed. You have all those options to get in touch with a representative to assist you with any concern.

If you have any questions regarding your subscription our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: customerservice@livecareer.com

THIEVES, FRAUDSTERS, CRIMINALS! Don't ever give this website payment details, they will steal money from your account! They do not tell you that they will charge you for their "free" resume/cover letter builder until you try to print or save it. Then they will charge you USD$1.95 for a 14day "trial period". At no time do they ever tell you that they will keep your credit card details and charge you USD$34.95 every 4wks after that. THEY WILL NOT ASK YOUR PERMISSION OR AUTHORISATION BEFORE STEALING MONEY FROM YOU, you will need to cancel your credit card. I have now read other reviews here and see that even after a phone call to cancel an unauthorised subscription LiveCareer have continued to FRAUDULENTLY STEAL MONEY from people... CRIMINALS! Anyone in the US should report them to their credit card company and to their local police, and fraud office. STOP THESE CRIMINAL THIEVES!

Dear Karyn,

Thanks for your comments.

Karyn, we stated the cost in bold and clear print and stated the details of the subscription options in bullet form, which can be clearly understood. We are also very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature, and if you don’t cancel your subscription, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95. In addition, we sent a payment confirmation email stating the amount of what you have subscribed for and the date of the auto-renewal.

We have 4 ways to cancel a subscription if service is no longer needed: By calling our customer service number at 1-888-816-0576, 17 hours a day, 7 days a week; by live chat, by e-mail at customerservice@livecareer.com, or you can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section.

Is it even possible to give no stars! Total waste of time. I was researching how to build a resume when I found this site that said I could build one for "FREE" I then spent hours doing just that only to find out that they wanted to charge me. Wt...! So I copied and pasted what I did do and redit into a word document on my own computer. Total time 4.5 hours. Even though I kept the "Free" resume on their site I get nothing but rehashed job posting pulled from other sites, none of which even come close to what's on my resume! Again WT...! Eventually I deleted the resume and deleted the account.

NOTE: there are so many scam sites out there now preying on the unemployed to part with their precious funds all promising to help you find work. HAHAHAHA. You have better luck spending your time researching companies you do want to work for and applying to them directly. Takes as much time as these other presumed job sites all of which seem to post the same jobs anyway. Just remember you should never have to pay anyone to send you job listings. There are enough ways to find them online through reputable venues.

Hi Edilberto Dayrit,

Thanks for providing me the last 4 digits of the card and email address used.

I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. All of our subscriptions are auto-renewing if not cancelled. We state this on every page in the purchase process and we send payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal upon purchase. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings if service is no longer needed.

Our record shows that your subscription has already been cancelled on January 03 via email by one of our representatives. The request to have it cancelled was 2 months late, that’s why you received that charged. As a courtesy, I issued 2 full refunds of $ 39.80. You'll see it on your bank statement within 2-3 business days. I have also sent you a confirmation email for your records.

We are very committed to providing great customer service and customer satisfaction, and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously and hope that you will reconsider your star rating and negative review of our site and service. Please contact me again directly if you have any further issues. You can email me at anna.b@livecareer-support.com

Anna

I paid for the 14 day trial, although the resume builder templates and guides are great, I had some problems with downloading and printing the resume. As a result I chose to cancel my subscription within two days. I cancelled using their site. Before I cancelled i was given the message to review my resume again get pointers on my resume and download a plain text copy. I did, and afterwards I was shown my subscription had been cancelled. Unfortunately 12 days later i was charged the full price. I called to find out why, to my shock there was no record of my cancellation but the representative was willing to prorate my refund (give back most of my money but charge me something) as a courtesy. I asked if there was somewhere i could send my initial cancellation email, so that I could prove that yes, I did cancel during the 14 day trial. I was asked if i was willing to accept the refund, implying that if I was my proof that i was charged in error didn't matter. I appreciate getting my money back but i should not have been charged. If you use the 14 day trial and cancel please keep you emails. You may be charged anyway.

One of the features that makes joining your site is the Free (with membership) Resume Check. However, this feature is a joke! I created my first resume and activated Resume Check (RC). When the RC window appeared with my resume issues, it contained spelling and grammatical errors. There was a spelling error in the first sentence ("you're" when it should have been "your"). I have difficultly granting credibility in such a case. Further, the "problems" that were diagnosed regarding my resume were nonexistent. Where it said I had errors, none were found that correlated with what was suggested. For example, it says that I may have misspelled words. If suggesting that words may be misspelled, the words in questions should be mentioned. Another thing that bothered me is that RC said that I used descriptions that were too complex or detailed; I added some of the descriptions that were suggested while editing my resume! Why would your site suggest descriptions or sentences that are too complex if your RC is going to suggest removing/rewording them? Also, I tried to live chat with a representative via my Safari browser on Mac, which is my browser of choice. Live chat would not work, even after I tried five times. I had to open Firefox in order to access a live chat rep.

I hope that my detailed review is beneficial to you because I think that your site has potential; however, not as one which has the right to charge any fees. Not at this time anyhow.

I have contacted this company 5 separate times. Email, phone and chat! No one will help me with my concerns! My resume is being displayed as an example, and I have asked them in every way possible to take it down. They have said, I can only do it thru my account, which I don't have! They said someone who knows me must have posted it then. WHAT? I want my information removed! I have provided them my address and every possible telephone number. They said they can only look up my resume by a credit card, (never gave them one), or an email address (never gave them one). What if I forgot my email address?(which I haven't), how would you look up my information then? Why can't you look up by my address or telephone number OR the URL that brings you to MY resume? This is ridiculous! It's MY INFO that I don't want on your website for the public to see!

**Update - Just got a private message from. REALLY? Did they even read my complaint?

In 2019, I was looking for a new career opportunity and one employer told me about conflicting resume information. I googled myself and there it was a falsified version of my resume that I did underneath my account. I immediately contacted them and asked for the information to be removed as it was not done with my consent. It was a nightmare but it was removed as I also contacted Google to have the URL removed. Here we are in 2023 and again my resume information is being used and it can be harmful when on the job market. The representative told me that even though I am no longer a customer I consented for my info to be used. Here is the caveat! It's not real information that is on my actual resume nor are the cities and states listed. However, it is under my name so it appears that I have lived/worked in cities, states that I did not. Be careful when getting an account just to update your resume because this is becoming a serious issue and only because only parts of my real resume were used and others were simply made up. Employers do google searches on candidates and its mortifying to have a resume published that you did not actually write.

Again like all customers, I have had them take $35.00 a month taken from my account without my acknowledgement. I used a $2.15 resume builder with which I was satisfied with, and now I look at my account with $2.00 in my account left because jackasses yet again take money out without my authorization. This money was for last second gas and food, for which I desperately need until I get paid on the 3rd because of labor day. Now we are officially broke because that money was taken away. I never received one email from this thieving company. I will call you live career, and I will report you to every bureau out there and maybe even a lawsuit will come forth. I am not the only customer with this issue livecareer, so obviously something is NOT working in customer service. I don't want a snide apology, I don't want a hey we emailed you, I want my money back! I want everyone customer on here with their money back or I will slam you with a lawsuit so hard your children's children will feel it.

Dear Christopher,

Thanks for your comments.

We are very clear that when you subscribe there is an auto-renewing feature for which you can cancel anytime and if you don’t cancel your subscription, we will bill you at the monthly rate of $34.95. We state this feature on your payment confirmation page and again give you this information when we send you your payment confirmation to the e-mail address that you use when you signed up. We give you multiple ways to cancel your subscription: By calling our customer service number at 1-888-816-0576, 17 hours a day, 7 days a week; by live chat, by e-mail at customerservice@livecareer.com, or you can even go to our website, where there is a self-cancellation feature under the “My Account” section to avoid incurring this charge if service is no longer needed.

Please give us a call to our Customer Service Center at 1-888-816-0675, so we can resolve this matter.

Best regards,

I signed up for this website for just a two week period, paying only what I thought was $1.95. First off, not even a big deal, but they charged me an extra 6 cents after I signed up for international fees because apparently their bank is located in London. WHO KNEW THAT?
Secondly, after the two-week period that I had signed up for I was charged and extra $39.80 as most of you other people who used this website. Had no idea that their was automatic renewal, which their customer service rep told me was all over every page of the purchasing process. Wouldn't you think that if it was all over, I would've known to cancel my account? They told me that in the first email I received that it said the accounts were auto renewal. Just checked... NOPE no indication of auto-renewal anywhere. So this site is an absolute scam. I even contacted on of their customer service reps and they told me that there's nothing they could do. My account was charged for ONE DAY extra. Like I just canceled my subscription and I'm still paying this $40! That's insane. They took literally my only funds I have as a college student so I guess I'm going to be eating Ramen for a few weeks.

Tip for consumers:
DONT USE THIS SITE

Hi Yelena M.,

I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. Our record shows that one of our representatives already explained the international fees and our auto-renewal policy. It also shows that we have refunded the full amount of $39.80 as a courtesy credit today. You'll see it on your bank statement within 2-3 business days. A confirmation email has been sent for your records.

We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously and hope that you will reconsider your star rating and negative review of our site and service. Please contact me directly if you have any further issues. I was refunded the money I had failed to realise that I would be spending by not reading the fine print! The customer service rep by the name of Maria Teresa Torres was a great help to me!
