I was very pleasantly surprised how easy it was to design a professional resume and cover letter. After sending these away to apply for 3 different jobs I obtained 3 interviews and now have a job, thank you for your excellent website.

I signed up for a trial subscription in September and created a few resumes. I really liked the site until I realized all its sneaky tactics. It automatically renewed my subscription at the end of October for a whopping $39.80 without so much as a courtesy email that I was involved in a subscription. I thought I signed up for a trial and am suddenly paying $40 bucks without my knowledge. Not to mention when I go to cancel my subscription it employs sneaky tactics saying my resumes and cover letters will be unavailable if I cancel. Extremely disappointed in my experience. Please be aware when signing up!

Tip for consumers:
Be aware of the sneaky tactics!

Hi Kelsey O.,

I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. We explain that the subscription is auto-renewing if not cancelled. We state this on every page in the purchase process and we send payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings if service is no longer needed.
Resume and cover letters will still be available on site even if the account has already been cancelled, however the options to print, email and download will not be accessible if the account is totally expired.

As a courtesy, I refunded the $39.80. You'll see it on your bank statement within 2-3 business days. I have also sent you a confirmation email for your records.

We are very committed to providing great customer service and customer satisfaction, and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously. It will be forwarded to our Marketing Team. Please contact me directly if you have any further issues. You can email me at anna.b@livecareer-support.com

Awful experience. Not only did I have to keep going back to modify the headers when formatting my resume but I received a call from my bank telling me that my card had been used in upstate NY while I was in Maryland. I never use the card for purchases and the one time I opted to use it to pay for this service I am rewarded with a hacked account and a charge of $170. I would never use or recommend this service to anyone.

In July I needed to update my resume. I found your site and completed the task. I did not realize that I would be paying for this for the last 7 months. And who needs to update your resume EVERY month. That is a scam. When I finally realized the amount was taken out of my account, I went to my bank to inquire. They had a heck of a time finding the phone number as if this company does not want to be found. They cheated me. I would never recommend this to anyone.

Though I have had some concerns with the actual product, the customer service I received from Luis was EXCELLENT! He went above and beyond to solve my billing issue and that was greatly appreciated.

As for the product, it needs work on formatting. When you download or export to Word the formatting is off, like spacing and margins. You also cannot edit once you export to Word which makes the resume close to useless. Many companies and agencies that these resumes are being sent to require a word document and they have to modify it to upload it into their system. It's very unprofessional that the format changes and line spacing is skewed once you export to Word. It looks terrible! This needs to be fixed!

I appreciated the resume tools over all, though I had several challenges with logging in and also viewing interview videos.
Expensive product for what was delivered. I wish I hadn't forgotten to cancel for two months-- it was money wasted.

It's just like other fine print websites. If I pay for something there shoould never be anyway for you to charge me again without my authorization. You should't automatically bill me after 14 days if I don't cancel your product

Tip for consumers:
never do busy with any company that say they will take money from you if you don't call them by a certain date.

I certainly did not like the idea of auto renewal. I only wanted to use the service once so that I can take a printout of my resume but having to pay almost $40 for the entire month does not seem right to me. I expected a better price structure.

Anna B. [LiveCareer Rep] Greetings resumejohn g, We are very sorry that you have had this experience with the service. We provide the information and explain that the subscription is auto-renewing. The auto renewal is provided with the features of the 14 day subscription on the sales page, its also stated as well on the payment and confirmation pages. We also send a payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings.

Cancellation of the account is going to prevent the account to enter the monthly subscription. Once it’s canceled, we send a cancellation confirmation email for your records as reference. There are times that auto emails can get picked up as spam or junk mail. Be sure to check your spam/junk mail folder.

We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously. It will be forwarded to our Marketing team. Overall it was fairly easy to use. I had some issues with the editing portion and spacing. I was not able to correct the issues with the editing tools that were made available on the sight. When I contacted customer service they informed me that the sight was developed using google chrome. It would have been helpful to know this before I started building my resume. Lastly I was not able to view the finished resume until I paid a modest fee ($2.95). This fee also came with a membership that would charge me a recurring monthly fee of($24.95). They give you 14 days to cancel, so not really free resumes.

A total scam. Stay clear of this Company that offer free CV's. My daughter needed a simple CV for a summer job and used their format. She discovered that she had to pay 1.95 euro to print it and we then discovered that they rolled this into a monthly subscription.
Its turned into a very expensive CV.

Hi Angela,

We’re sorry that you may have gotten the wrong impression of our service and subscription resume builder service. We would like to provide you some information which may clear up any concerns about your account:

The auto renewal is listed with the features of the 14-day subscription on the sales page, as well as on the payment and confirmation pages. We also send a payment confirmation e-mail stating the date and amount of the auto-renewal. We do offer several ways to cancel including via phone, live chat, e-mail and self-cancellation in your Account Settings. The website clearly states that you can sign up for a free 14 day trial, but it will auto renew and charge you weekly after that. I was charged nearly $40 for half a resume. I thought I had cancelled the free trial, but instead I had unsubscribed to the emails. When I explained my reasonable mistake, the rep was courteous and helped me resolve the error. Ultimately it was my fault for submitting a credit card, but the positive experience I had with the LiveCareer reps helped me appreciate the company.

The templates were very nice, and this service may be just right for those who have a challenge in creating the best looking professional documents.

Thank you LiveCareer.

It said it was completely free so I went over the website and decided to go ahead after spending quite some time making the cv, they told me I had to pay a small fee of £1,45 for a week of unlimited cv's. After spending so much time on the cv I just went ahead for the cheapest option of the one week option but a month later they took out £13,50 out of my bank account unauthorised. Outrageous £16 on a cv which at first instance claimed to be Free, disgusting scam..

I love it. My only problem is my career field is a little different and you don't have the templates I need.
In fashion styling, theater, and film, we do lists of credits, we only need 1 date, we don't do big descriptions, its really job title, production name, production company and date. I have tried to make one of your templates work, but its a long resume now.

Reason I chose this business:

Luckily I remembered where I had made my resumes in the past! You make it very easy.

My experience was very great. I called to see why Perfectresume was charging my card and Joe made everything easy. He was very patient and reassured me that he would handle the issue. To resolve the problem, Joe refunded my money back to my account. Calls like these are never stress-free but Joe managed to make it an easy stress-fee call!

They deducted money on my account without my consent and later promised to refund my money, however instead they made a second deduction on my account and claimed that they did not do it. These are typical thieves. Run away from such.
They claimed to have cancelled my account, however it is even very active.

Tip for consumers:
I would not recommend anyone to use this site if they value their money. These guys keep chopping your money without your consent.

I have used live career many times to write cvs and cover letters and even to look for jobs! This time i decided to start a paid membership so that i could email and also print the finished resumes and cover letters- i decided to pay for one month and then cancel immediately. At one point i was told i was entitled to a resume review which i thought was great, and assumed that it was free... only to find out that i was charged $24! Its left me with a very sour taste in my mouth. I was a big fan but now i will think again about using this website - the trust has gone!

I hate, hate, hate, how companies do the bait and switch on people. They tell you that it will cost you only $4.95 for 7 days of use and the next thing you know your bank account is dinged for $34.95! If you would put THAT in bold print before the $4.95 sales pitch, you at LiveCareer.com would not be getting such ugly reviews.

Dear Cathy C,

I apologize for the misunderstanding. The $4.95 subscription is good for 7 days and we rely on you to cancel whenever you are finished. Our renewal policy is listed clearly in normal size font with the subscription option, on the payment confirmation page and purchase confirmation email. If you do not cancel we will assume that you are still using our service. Many of our customers continue to use our service for several months during their entire job search.

To cancel your subscription simply contact us by phone, email, or chat. We also have a self-cancellation method available in your account settings. Inquiries can be emailed to customerservice@livecareer.com and the toll free phone number for customer service is 1-888-816-0576. Please contact us if we can be of any service. We are available 7 days a week from 6am-midnight EST.

Overall it was a good experience up until the moment it wouldn't let me go any further until I paid $1.95 and said I had 30 days I think and then I would start paying $19.99 a month. I have no use for a resume service monthly. My plan is to get a job and not continue to send out resumes. The sight is good, but when it says it is free that is what the customer thinks. I think that part should be upfront rather than free everywhere. It's not true. Other than that very helpful.
