Live Career? Or Death to the unemployed? THIS WEBSITE IS A SCAM! THEY ARE A BLOODSUCKING SCAM trying to take advantage of the unemployed! I paid 1.95 to make a resume and then I just checked my bank account this morning and they had charged me $39.80! THERE GOES MY GROCERIES FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. I'm a poor college student, so I called their customer service and a "kind hearted lady" named Vanessa told me basically that I should have read through things better when I paid for the resume. AWESOME! What happened to making the world a better place? MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOULS.

They tell you that they will charge you only for $1.95 for 14 days and you can subscribe for monthly if you wish. Well, if it is not your wish, that doesn't matter because they charge you for $38.90 anyway! I tried to create a new account and checked if anywhere in the process they tell you that you will automatically be charged after 14 days, no they don't! I claimed a refund and of course they disappeared. No replies to my emails. Live customer representative have become 'unavaliable' for some reason. Oh, by the way, when I first contected them throug their live chat I said I do not accept this payment, I want my subsription to be cancelled and claime a refund. At this point this was what they offered; would you like to pay $3 instead of $38.90? You will have exactly the same benefits! This is total scam, don't fell for it!

Greetings Ozge E, We're very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. We explain that the subscription is auto-renewing. The auto renewal is listed with the features of the 14 day subscription on the sales page, as well as on the payment and confirmation pages. We also send a payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings. If the client want to use the service for the 14 days only, they only have to cancel their subscription within the 14 days access and the subscription will not auto renew.
We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously. It will be forwarded to our Marketing team. Please contact us directly if you have any further issues. You can send us a private message or email us at customerservice@livecareer.com
Best regards,
Live Career
Do NOT fall for this site! Yes, you can view sample resumes and cover letters, and do the "free 14 day trial" but YOU BETTER make sure you get a confirmation e mail when you cancel BEFORE the 14 days expires, or else YOU WILL be charged $35.65 immediately! To make things even WORSE, try calling them about it! You'll wait forever for an answer, THEN when they try to look up your e mail that you KNOW you sent them canceling the subscription, that's another 14 minute wait! Don't waste your time!
Date of experience: June 3, 2013
Hello Chanin,
Thank you for your comments.
Chanin, we make every effort to let our customers know that our subscription service is auto-renewing and that if you don’t cancel before the end of your trial, we assume you want to continue using our service. We offer many ways to cancel your subscription – e-mail, live chat, or by phone. You can even go to our website and cancel your subscription from there.
We’re not quite sure what happened with the 14 minutes you state you waited on the phone. Our representatives are trained in finding an account, even if the caller cannot recall what e-mail they used when they opened their account. We pride ourselves in offering excellent customer service to all our callers, and we will certainly look into this extended period of waiting that you experienced. We do hope that you were able to resolve whatever issues you had with our website. So, our apologies to you that you suffered this frustration.
Thank you again for your comments.
Sincerely,
LiveCareer

I just want to use the site once to build my resume. I did know I will be charged $1.95 for trial. That is fine. BUT after 1 month I found out they charged me $39.98 automatically. However, I cancel the account on the same day when I found out the truth. But they do not let me get refund. They claimed that I have been used their service for 1 month. They charged $9 something for one week. Oh really, then why they don't charge weekly but monthly? They actually know customer will not notice their sneaky statement for the trail but fraud customers money. If you want to try this site remember to cancel their service at the same day. Really, who will use resume builder for whole month. Just another way to fraud ppl money.
***UPDATE***
After posting this review about company on this website, they contacted me through the e-mail and refunded me $39.98. I am happy to get my money back and would like to thank to whoever issue me the refund. However, I wish the company would issue me a refund when I called them at first time. Overall, I just want to say that I am happy to get my money back. I edit the rating since I get the refund.
Tip for consumers:
If you want to charge people automatically please send them reminder asking if they want to pay for the service.

Hi Yung-Jung Chang,
I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. Our record shows that you self-cancelled your service on November 18, which is a day late that is why you incurred the auto-renewal charged. The charged posted on November 21, might be due to technical issues that is why it was not cancelled successfully. As a courtesy, I have refunded the $39.80. You'll see it on your bank statement within 2-3 business days. I have also sent you a confirmation email for your records.
We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously and hope that you will reconsider your star rating and negative review of our site and service. Please contact me again directly if you have any further issues.
Best regards,
Anna

While technically legal, LiveCareer's practices are far from ethical. They offer a very good resume-building service for which they charge $1.95 to download. That's fine. They also offer to share your resume with potential employers for just under $40/month, which I wasn't willing to pay. So, I cancelled my service online immediately because all I wanted was to print it off.
That's where the lack of ethics was displayed. They didn't send me a confirmation email (which you need for a debit card dispute if you hope to get your money back). I didn't think much of it and didn't take time to double check. Weeks later, I checked my bank statement to find that I had, indeed been charged the nearly $40. I called them and then my bank and they were unable to recover my money.
This is a poor, poor business practice from a company I would have otherwise had a good experience with.
***********************************************
After I posted this review, LiveCareer contacted me and refunded me. I guess if you complain in public, there is hope you'll get your money back
Tip for consumers:
Confirm that cancellation email!

Hi Byron Y.,
I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. If the account has been cancelled successfully, you'll receive an automatically generated email confirmation. Often auto emails can get picked up as spam or junk mail. Be sure to check your spam/junk mail folder. All of our subscriptions are auto-renewing if not cancelled. We state this on every page in the purchase process and we send payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal upon purchase. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings if service is no longer needed.
Our record shows that it was just cancelled on December 2. As a courtesy, I refunded the $39.80. You'll see it on your bank statement within 2-3 business days. I have also sent you a confirmation email for your records.
We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. Thus far I'm disappointed with the career testing end of your site:
If there was any information on having to pay for my results, I might have thought twice about taking the test. IT may have been buried in fine print, but the testing presents itself as free.
At the end of a long test, I'm told I have to pay $25-40 for detailed results.
Once I resigned to paying, I received a confirmation email for my payment, but no results and no explanation of when I could expect them.
I gave it a day before calling calling in and after a long wait talked with a really nice CSR (Costa Rica is a good choice for outsourcing your CS needs), who was unable to resolve the problem but escalated it for me.
That was yesterday.
Now it's 3pm Central time Monday afternoon and I still haven't heard back from a soul.
A good suggestion on how to fix this: refund my money, give me the report for free.
It's better than me going through the hassle of forcing you to fulfill your money-back guarantee. It will create good will and I'll be more likely to keep using your site.

Horrible website! Don't be surprised when you get international charges on top of what you are paying! They lost my completed resume & I got someone else's total information when I logged on!
Date of experience: June 22, 2012
Hi Rose N,
Hi, work at LiveCareer. I apologize for the misunderstanding. Just to clarify, we are an International company, LiveCareer processes payments from all over the globe through our e-commerce provider located in Germany. Some banks charge an international transaction fee, even when the charge is in US dollars. We have no control over these fees and cannot predict what they may be, although generally they do not exceed 3% of the transaction amount. These fees are charged by your bank and not LiveCareer. Please contact your bank if you have any questions.
If you have any questions regarding your subscription our customer service team is available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6am- Midnight EST at toll free 1-888-816-0576 or through live chat on our site. If you prefer you can send us an email to: customerservice@livecareer.com. We also list our contact information on our "Contact Us" and "About Us" Pages on our site.

Thank you, Janice, we're always open to suggestions for improvement, please do not hesitate to reach out to us with more of your feedback!
I registered on the site last June, and unfortunately used a credit card which I do not use for day-to-day use. At the time of registering was given to understand that I would be making a one time payment for my Resume Builder, and nowhere was it mentioned that there would be a monthly recurring charge of USD 43 or thereabouts which I have now been paying for the past 15 months.
When I wrote to their Customer "Service" about this was told that this was their standard procedure and that the subscription is auto-renewing. Apparently this is supposed to be stated on every page in the purchase process and they are supposed to send a payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal, but did not receive any such notifications from them.
I have now asked my Bank to stop payment, and the subscription was Cancelled by LiveCareer only after these instructions were sent out. After paying them more than USD 650 dollars, they have kindly agreed to refund USD 19.95.
Can only warn all potential customers to steer clear!

Livecareer.com has been an awesome experience for me. I don't really know much about making resumes, but the website walked me through everything step by step and ended up helping me make a job winning resume. Not only was I very pleased with the help I got just from the step by step pop ups and suggestions they also had great examples for me to go off of and whenever I was finished I sent it out and had 4 job offers in less than 24 hours of completing and sending out my resume, and here I am 4 days later loving my new job, and I owe it all to Livecareer.com. Not to mention when I was ready to cancel my subscription the people in the live chat were very helpful and very respectful of my needs, they got it taken care of right away as well as sending me a conformation of the cancellation and a detailed copy of our conversation JUST to be sure that I wouldn't get charged again and if I did then there would be no issue refunding my money and resolving the problem. 5***** Very highly recommended for people in the workforce trying to start fresh with a new resume or people who are just simply trying to revise an old one. Livecareer, com has something for everyone.

TOTAL SCAM! All their pricing is hidden and they make it seem like they will only charge you 9.95 after the 14 day period, but they just word it differently so some people do not recognize it as 38 dollars a month. MAKE IT CLEAR! DO NOT BE SNEAKY by putting in BOLD the (9.95) and then the (/week) sign. That is clearly trying to trick buyers. I still am fighting to get my money back and I will. SCAMMING INNOCENT PEOPLE SO YOU CAN EARN MONEY IS PATHETIC!

Dear Erin,
Thanks for your comments
Erin, we make every effort to let our subscribers know of this auto-renewing feature. We have it in print when you subscribe and we even e-mail you those details when we send your payment confirmation. We also inform you of the many ways for you to unsubscribe your account: by phone, chat and email. There is even a self-cancellation feature under “My Account” on our website if service is no longer needed and to avoid incurring monthly charges.
We hope you will contact us and we will work with you to resolve your issue. Our toll free number is 1-888-816-0576. We are available 7 days a week 6am-midnight EST. Or if you prefer, you can email us at: customerservice@livecareer.com

Well, I just received a letter from my bank, that they will be refunding me the money for $1.95 resume, or wait, you thought that too, right? Until... you've got MAIL (AOL pun intended) $40 monthly subscription fee. So after I've submitted the claim, which was approximately 3 month ago, I started doing some research. I gotta give them a thumbs up for nicely covering the subscription in the context of a contract, which in fact is completely legal, until I talked to my lawyer friend. Hell, why not put there a signature for your social security benefits when you retire, to them, ahhh, it takes "time" for them to collect. Silly me. I highly, HIGHLY suggest that IF you stumbled onto this website and you are reading this review, CONGRATULATIONS! You've just joined a group, better yet, a flock of stupid chickens that trusted the website and actually paid for their services, $41 for a resume that you build, not bad. What's next, gas at $3 per gallon + $120 convenience fee? Bottom line, make a complaint to your bank, you are not the last, and if you have money to invest, hire a lawyer.
P.S. And I am guarding a country from enemies foreign and domestic, so douchbags like these can legally scam people.
Tip for consumers:
1) Claim with your bank.
2) Lawyer.
3) Destroy them.

DO NOT USE THIS SITE.
If you're not careful they will take 34.99 from you every month, and of course their "phones are currently down" and after waiting for live chat for almost an hour, no response. It happened to me, i'm a college student, so of course i don't have money to just throw around. But luckily i realized it right away and was only charged once.
Not to mention, the title of the site is a lie, "free resume building". Yeah sure, you can build it for free, but you have to pay to do anything with it afterwards.
Most people use this site to make their resume quickly, find out after working on it for X amount of time that it costs 1.95 for a two week sub to even save it, pay for it, and probably never go back on it.
This is where they screw you.
34.99 a month is a scam in itself for resume formatting. Two weeks for 1.95 turns out to be 34.99 every month until you realize they stole your money.
They know damn well most people aren't going to read through all the terms to find that if you don't cancel after two weeks that they will charge you, and they use this to their full advantage. How this site is still in operation is beyond me.
Stop ripping people off, change the auto charging. If i wanted a monthly subscription i would have signed up for it. I want my money back.
Tip for consumers:
cancel now.
