As a seller, I was completely satisfied with MaxSold. They were efficient with their communication with me, arrived on time to photograph the items I was putting my home on the market and needed to clear all the contents. The online auction occurred on the dates we agreed and Pick Up was arranged and was efficiently conducted. Staff was courteous and experienced. Accounting was provided quickly and to my satisfaction. I would recommend MaxSold wholeheartedly. Thank you for a job well done.
First time seller and multiple technical issues such as: - Date I picked for pickup was not the date given to purchasers - Reports online differed from reports received (kept telling me one lot wasn't paid for online) - No instructions on what to do if lot isn't picked up - App DOES NOT link to a sale you've started - Uploading photos was a challenge Reported to Maxsold and basically told to bad. They only addressed the first issue and said a confirmation email had the same date as the purchasers despite their online system showing the data I had chosen.
As a buyer I'm impressed with this type of auction, I put in my maximum I can afford and if I win I collect. I buy for my home or my neighbours who are looking for something they need but can't afford at store prices. I picked up a rocking recliner that was in really good condition for $49.00 from an estate sale, my neighbour was thrilled, she never thought she would ever own such a nice, comfortable chair. In her mid 70's, with a fixed income, that chair made her day, she was so grateful to me for finding it and picking it up and to the seller for letting it go. We can't all afford to pay top dollar but we still like nice things. I was able to pick up some camping gear for my neighbour's son so he could go on his first camping trip. He was so thrilled, he said now he needs a tent and fishing rod so I have to keep my eyes open for him, he's six years old. I have used the Maxsold auctions to pick up cutery, small set of dishes, pots and pans, linens and other things for students going away to school for the first time. It helps to get them what they need and would otherwise do without if they had to buy from a store. I spoke to one seller who was upset about having to downsize, I thanked her for allowing me to now enjoy some of her treasures. I'm not a reseller, I buy for myself, family or friends. Without Maxsold I would not be able to own wicker sun chairs or a good solid wall unit. I too am very grateful to Maxsold for coming up with this idea and to the Sellers who use their services. Thank you for my wonderful baker's rack, I love it.
I would like to file a formal complaint about your pickup process. The entire thing was a disaster and would have been even worse had my brother not been there to supervise (even though we were specifically told no one had to be present) Please see details below. I am not sure if this is the typical way you do business but it was completely unacceptable and we are extremely unhappy.
1. One buyer showed up late with no tools or help, piled a number of items on the lawn until 4:45 (more than an hour after the scheduled end time) and then wanted to go back inside to take apart a treadmill. When my brother said he needed to be out because we had a cleaning crew coming, he was told that the entire sale would be cancelled and we would be responsible for the pile of stuff sitting on the lawn. My brother allowed the buyer to remain until he was done.
2. Mud was tracked on the downstairs carpet even though we provided booties for people to use.
3. Wood floors were scratched because pickups were done unsafely and unsupervised. Heavy items were slid across hardwood floors
4. People were allowed to drive on our lawn and destroy the grass.
5. One buyer attempted to steal the microwave that is attached to the wall and would have gotten away with it had my brother not stopped him, the employee supervising him was not attentive.
6. Multiple times people were wandering around the property unsupervised because the staff was not being attentive.
I sent this complaint a week ago and have gotten no response whatsoever. Would not use again or recommend to anyone.
Tip for consumers:
Dont use this site. They are terrible.
Recently my sister and I were faced with the enormous challenge of clearing our elderly father's home of its contents since his transfer to an assisted living facility. Based on the recommendation of a relative, we contacted MaxSold and decided that they were the best solution to our dilemma. We weren't disappointed! After preparing the site for the MaxSold team's arrival, I was very impressed by their knowledge, attention to detail and thoroughness in completing the photography and cataloguing stage. Pickup day was even better. While pleased with the overall results of the bidding, I was apprehensive about the claiming of a few low bid and no bid items but thanks to the team's efforts, everything but one lot of two small boxes of ceramics was cleared from the premises... and in fifteen minutes less than the projected three hour window! Special kudos to Jane, Irene and Michael for all of their hard work and their friendly and cheerful disposition in going about it. I would not hesitate to use MaxSold again!
MaxSold's rules are designed to benefit the company at the expense of its customers. If one is unable to pick up during a pickup window, the merchandise is forfeited and goes to... who knows where - apparently to MaxSold employees. A week ago MaxSold employees expropriated $245 worth of paintings and a dorm fridge that I paid for. To facilitate the theft, the employees often "forget" to put up MaxSold signs making it more difficult for customers to locate a pickup site.
False advertisement is not uncommon. It happened to me twice. The first time I bid $500 on a painting and ended up with a $1 print. The only people who knew that this was a print were MaxSold insiders who did not bid. Apparently, MaxSold allows its employees to bid against their customers. More recently, I paid $60 for sterling on a porcelain coffee set. It turned out that the set was painted with sterling paint. After I emailed a complaint to MaxSold's customer service, I was told that since I removed the merchandise from the premises, I was not eligible for a refund, as though I would be able to replace genuine sterling with identically looking sterling paint.
Alexander,
I apologize that this response is delayed, I have just taken over the responses to reviews. We are extremely concerned to hear that you have had a bad experience with MaxSold. I can assure you that we would in no way tolerate any team member who takes active steps to alter the outcome of an auction. We also have rules to ensure that if MaxSold employees are wanting to bid on an auction that this is done in a fair manner. I would love to get more details on this auction if you could send the details over to patti@maxsold.com and I can ensure you that we will launch a full investigation in to this for you. We hope to hear from you soon so that we can ensure that any and all appropriate action is taken on our side. Thanks again Alexander for the feedback.

I use this company because a friend recommended them I couldn't have been more exact or precise my explanation what was not to be touched or Taken has proceeded to empty my state things kept going missing and then they brought ins for other people who pick through everything and took everything and then did not admit to stealing it when I have to say hey bring my stuff back or compensate for me they had the nerve to say we didn't touch it we didn't take it and I kept on getting the run-around I was told I would get a phone call back and never received any of these people are C's if you use them in a stupid enough to make sure you stay in your house while they go through it and empty it or stuff will go missing
It's disappointing that this customer had an unsatisfactory experience - should they decide to provide more details on who they are / which auction was theirs we would be happy to follow up with them and attempt to make it right in their eyes. We would be happy to review the situation and attempt to make it right in their eyes.
Please feel free to contact us at support@maxsold.com to review your situation.
The folks at the pick up, are always polite and friendly and very helpful. And great finds, lots of collectble item's. Can't wait for the next auction to start. Must cheap out MAXSOLD
Loved my experiences buying bidding and watching items. Max sold has just overall easy to use web site and very stream lined service from bidding payment to pickup. All Aces in my opinion!

Thanks so much for the 5* review, we love to get them! What we love more though is to hear that our buyers are having a great experience in terms of watching (that's half the fun) and buying items with us! We hope to see you again soon!

Unfortunately my experience with maxsold has been significantly different than what others have described. I have found that the individuals running the auction have at times, randomly pulled items from the auction a mere few hours before it closes. Why? Likely because they discover that the item is worth more than what it will be auctioned for or simply because they themselves want to keep the item. It goes without saying that this is a highly unethical way to run a business/estate sale. How can we, as buyers, plan accordingly for an auction if we are subject to the whims of the individuals running the auction? When speaking to the customer service representative, she informed me that this is in fact a "breach of their contract," but failed to go into the details of what exactly that meant. Instead of attempting to reach out to the specific individuals running that auction, I was merely told "sorry."
I would implore anyone reading this review to look elsewhere when evaluating an auction house to do business with. There are lots of very well managed companies out there that wouldn't think of doing such a thing. Do items get accidentally broken and need to be pulled from the auction? Absolutely. But when it is multiple lots of similar items getting pulled at once it raises concerns about the ethics of the people running the auction/estate sale. I, for one, will do business elsewhere.
It's disappointing that we provided this customer an unsatisfactory experience. However, the actions we occasionally take to remove lots from an auction are to protect our bidders from further wasted time and effort as our Seller has made us aware that the items cannot be released. This can be for a number of reasons which were not identified prior to the auction opening including:
Legal: they are not legally allowed to sell the Lot
Physical: the Lot has been broken/damaged/stolen and is no good to anyone now
Emotional: the seller (or another family member) is not willing to part with the Lot at any price
Financial: the seller (or another family member) feel the Lot will not achieve the price they want
As indicated by our team, a removal is a breach of our Seller contract, however it’s important for our community to appreciate that there are extenuating circumstances (those reading this who have supported a family member with a downsize who also has a mental health issue will appreciate this).
To ensure transparency and fairness of our process (and like all auction houses we are aware of), we communicate potential events such as the above via our terms and conditions. In this particular type of situation, the following 3 elements may apply:
ADDITION TO OR WITHDRAWAL FROM SALE: Although infrequent, we may add lots (or items to lots) and remove lots (or items from lots) at any time during the auction (see MATERIALITY).
MATERIALITY: MaxSold reserves the right to reset bids on a lot in an auction if, in MaxSold’s sole discretion, there is a material change to the lot that will impact the value of the item.
RESERVE: You may have to pay a minimum amount in order to win an item.
All that said, very few items (if any) are removed from the 100s of auctions we conduct each week and we continue to work with Seller to prevent changes to the auction once the catalog is published online.
We invite all those considering bidding to take their agreement to our bidder terms very seriously to ensure understanding and expectations while avoiding disappointment like in this customers case: www.maxsold.com/terms
MaxSold continues to reinvest all funds made in the pursuit of its vision to Sell. Everything. Simply for downsizing and estate clients without judgement:

I have no complaints about the professionalism and courtesy of your staff: assigning and photographing lots and handling the pickup schedule. However, several customers told me they were still engaged in bidding for the most valuable items in the auction and that they were cut off in process and very upset. I am extremely distressed that you stopped the bidding and did not afford me the opportunity to receive a better price for these items. On another note I wish there had been a better tutorial on how to modify//split lots. For example there were cases such as where several nice silverplate pieces were included with assorted trays and the picture did not make the silver items clear. I didn't comprehend that I could have split the items into two lots. Another lot of primarily silver was highly sought after and had many bids so I most likely would have realized a better price separating out the silver items. Most of my changes to the texts were handled well, but in some cases you did not correct spelling or add other useful explanatory descriptions.
We are sorry to hear that bidders reported to the Seller that bidding was somehow cut short. We unfortunately were not informed of this on the night of closing and we have no other data to suggest there was a system issue. We do know that, from time to time, issues do occur at the user end that deny them from bidding (i. E. personal internet/computer issues, bidder not providing their credit card information, bidders not following the ‘live view’ of an auction in closing, etc.). From the auction results, it’s clear that there was extended bidding on a number of items (as indicated by the ‘bidding was extended’ statement next to the “Closed” note - see link below).
Based on the bidding attendance (134 bidders) and the average lot value ($66+), this auction significantly exceeded a typical auction result. The average lot value also suggests the lotting was optimal for the mix of items in the sale (breaking up the lots would likely have resulted in less overall competition based on our experience and the data available).

We are sorry if this Seller felt more could have been done to increase the success of this auction. We will take their feedback into consideration in the hopes we can further improve our process and wish them all the best.
This company is AWFUL do not use. They not only charge a hidden fee but charge the buyers a fee! Stealing from an old lady with Alzheimer's… sad day when they make more than her to pay for her care.
Brooke,
We are sorry that you have had a bad experience with MaxSold. We are certainly concerned to hear that you feel you have been charged a hidden fee, as we ensure that all fee's for both sellers & buyers are clearly posted. If you can send your auction ID # to, care@maxsold.com along with a brief outline of your concerns we will have someone take a look at the auctions fee's and get back to you.
Team MaxSold.
If you are looking to sell items, you have many options but few offer the security and timeliness of Maxsold. That performance will come at a cost, everybody is looking for a bargain so don't expect to get $100 for a table you picked up at the curb for free. If you need to sell a household of goods, this is a good option. I love the DIY option to save some money and you get to meet the new owners and maybe pass some info to them. As a buyer, I am cautious to limit my bidding to avoid buying an unusable item for money I need for other things. Check the pictures very carefully and think of the things that could be a problem. When I am buying old tools, I work though the repairs that could be needed and whether parts would be available. Go easy at first until you have some bargains that you can look back at in case you get a dud later. (they balance) Recommended for savvy frugal buyers. My one beef is the quality of the pictures presented is often less than I want. More pictures that reveal the condition of the item would help and clearer backgrounds.
We are so happy that we hired Maxsold to auction off my Dad's estate. They were professional, friendly and organized. Prior to hiring Maxsold we went to two separate Maxsold auctions on which we won items. One was self managed and at pick up was Chaos! So many people were in the place at one time anyone could have taken anything! The second was Maxsold managed. The people working it escorted buyers through the house and if there wasn't a runner available you had to wait outside until someone was available. This ensured no damage to the property and that buyers only picked up the item they bid on. Our experience was great, most things were sold and it was amazing to see the difference of a overflowing house full of stuff to an empty house within hours.
We read the contract and knew what the costs were and felt that the fees were more than fair given the amount of work it would have been to achieve the same result ourselves. Thanks Maxsold for an enjoyable experience. The London team and their friends are great!
I have made several purchases through MaxSold and have had nothing but great experiences. The workers at he pick-up locations have always been helpful and professional. Thank you
This has been the best experience I have had with an auction site. Easy and smooth process. They were very helpful and made the experience so much better.
I have gotten so many great deals through MaxSold. The staff are amazing. Helpful, friendly, informed. They are extremely organized and efficient. I have had nothing but the best service from them!
I managed maxsold for my customer and she was very pleased with the results. She will be doing another! She especially liked the one day pickup. Clare from The Next Step Forward

I truly love their auctions. I love finding antiques at great deals and I have won some that turned out to be very valuable. I highly recommend checking them out if you love auctions.
Tip for consumers:
I love their customer service. I was past time to pick up my items I had won and it was seller managed so Max Sold contacted the seller and he waited for me to come pick up my items. Truly great service.

I just happened to come across the website for MaxSold one day and looked into it just for fun. I have since bid/bought from at least 5 auctions that I can remember and I'm hooked!
I have participated in, and won, several different auction thru Maxsold. Each time the item was exactly as described, and pick up was a breeze.
Love Maxsold!

I have only had opportunity to bid on 2 auctions in my area in Colorado as I don't drive very far. Both times I was very happy with the items purchased and the staff on site. I do understand when someone is frustrated and upset because their item was taken by another person and I can see how this could happen on occasion as the last auction I was in the last time slot to pick up my item and as I went up to the house the garage was wide open with no staff watching. When I went to door a staff member went with me to garage and was upset to see the door open and immediately called to the person who was suppose to be supervising that area. They said they had just helped someone carry an item to their vehicle (which they are not required to do). She told him he was not to leave the garage without another employee taking over and she then made sure my items were complete (I was buying some tools) and apologized that I found the garage unsupervised. I felt that they were very aware of the fact that things could go missing and were not prepared to let a staff member just leave their post. I always watch for more auctions in my area and am looking forward to future dealings with MaxSold.
