“Extremely satisfied”

Barb W.

As a seller, I was completely satisfied with MaxSold. They were efficient with their communication with me, arrived on time to photograph the items I was putting my home on the market and needed to clear all the contents. The online auction occurred on the dates we agreed and Pick Up was arranged and was efficiently conducted. Staff was courteous and experienced. Accounting was provided quickly and to my satisfaction. I would recommend MaxSold wholeheartedly. Thank you for a job well done.

“Multiple technical issues”

Dwight Y.
3/13/24

First time seller and multiple technical issues such as: - Date I picked for pickup was not the date given to purchasers - Reports online differed from reports received (kept telling me one lot wasn't paid for online) - No instructions on what to do if lot isn't picked up - App DOES NOT link to a sale you've started - Uploading photos was a challenge Reported to Maxsold and basically told to bad. They only addressed the first issue and said a confirmation email had the same date as the purchasers despite their online system showing the data I had chosen.

I have been participating in MaxSold auctions for over a year attended countless auctions and conducted my own Seller managed Sale. I think this is one of the best essential services I have ever seen.

As a buyer, I shop hundreds of items per week, year round from the comfort of my tablet, instead of running around to garage sales and auctions, I regularly pick up incredible deals, made good profits reselling items, greatly benefited my household budget and met lovely friendly people. I understand that for this opportunity, it may occur 1 out of 40 times that I dont get exactly what I expected to get (Gee, I wish life in general would be that kind), that I may do some work to pick up items, and that there will be some items that came as part of the lot that I can donate to charities. (my local Salvation Army and recycling centre, treat me like a hero every time they see me, which gives me guilt because I saved or made money getting what I wanted and am still able to donate. Dont cry for me, I can deal with that guilt :).

Years ago I had to liquidate an estate of a family member, and it was 3 months of labor intensive, favor asking, money spending, time consuming hell ending in watching and paying for 2 waste bins of stuff I knew others could use, be hauled away. Just recently I had occasion to do the same for another family member who as it happens was in the same area and had comparable amount and type of stuff. Well, with about 2 days of effort to remove keeper items 2-3 days to stage and post the Maxsold auction, half a day attending to an army of buyers doing all the work of dismantling, packing and moving 95% of the contents from the home and another half a day cleaning up the rest, we were done. For that week of easy effort received a payment from Maxsold that was easily triple the average pay a Canadian makes in a week. My costs? Some green tape from the dollar store and lunch for those who helped out. I was in shock by how much easier the Maxsold experience was. I have great pity for anyone still using disposal services for this type of requirement.

For myself it gives me great joy to participate in preserving materials rather than going to landfill, saving money, and having the option to not assist billionaire retail Corporations in getting any richer than they already are. Maxsold lets me do these things and I do not know any other service that does.

Thank you

To start off. I want to say i have spent over $1700 on 20 auctions in last 2.5 years. Lately. There have been a lot of "seller run" auctions... which i didnt get at the time... but are the biggest scams on the internet. These people get to list... and take pictures. Of all of their items... and say whatever they want. And no matter how bad the item is... maxsold will do nothing for you.

Case in point... i spent $300+ on 3 computers that were listed "great for a student". I was a chromebook. The other 2 were apple. When i picked them up i realized the chromebook had no power cord... and there was no way to tell how old the apples were. Turns out. They were so old... they were no longer supported by apple... and couldnt even download the newest safari... which means they were incapable of even using a web browser. I was given a $66 refund. Basically "we know you got hosed... but you arent getting paid because you didn't plug the computers in when you picked them up" (i posted a picture of their response). So the only way these were ever "good for a student" is if the student was studying "how to disassemble ancient computers". No responsibility from this company... they basically take their 10% on top of what you bid in exchange for the picture they post! No standing behind their VIP members (yes they asked me to be one)... Or anyone for that matter... just word their items all funky. Like "untested"(that being said... this certain lot DID NOT say untested... but made you assume that they were all in working order). It's a SELLER RUN auction. Please tell me how they are untested? I will now be filing a complaint with the BBB... and my credit card company since the REFUND button on their website is just as pathetic as the rest of the company.

Unless you have a great eye looking at horrible photography... stay away from the used car lots of auction sites. BUYER AND SELLER BEWARE.

UPDATE (picture 3): I ended up getting a FULL REFUND... AND getting banned! How very 3rd grade of them.

UPDATE #2: IF you take a chance with them. And get screwed like I did... just... in their words... "threaten" to contact your credit card company. You will surely get blacklisted... but you will get your money back.

Maxsold has two models - Maxsold Managed and Seller Managed. In one offering Maxsold is never on site and therefore has no visibility of the items sold. In the other, our teams catalog and thus have a bit more awareness of the items. That said, regardless of who is cataloging, both honest mistakes and dishonest actions can occur - thus, Maxsold uses a transparent claims process that has worked for centuries in the live auction world - specifically, the buyer can inspect the item in full view of the auction staff, other buyers (and sometimes the Seller) and make a claim (partial/full refund) if the item is found to be in a condition other than what was described before leaving the site. In both the bidder terms (www.maxsold.com/terms) and on the buyer invoice it states:

CLAIMS: ENSURE YOU INSPECT items at pickup (and preview if available) and IMMEDIATELY inform the MaxSold team (or Seller if Seller Managed) of any issues related to mis-cataloging of condition (remembering that you are purchasing used items in AS IS WHERE IS condition). By departing from the pickup site you acknowledge that you have all your items and that you are satisfied with them and/or have brought up issues with the Lead on site. NO CLAIMS ARE PERMITTED AFTER REMOVING ITEMS FROM THE PREMISES as condition issues cannot be validated once items are released into your possession. If required, bring an expert to validate purchases at pickup. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of the Seller.

This ensures fairness and transparency to both the buyer and the seller. When a buyer accepts an item without inspection, they are waving any potential claim issues as, once the item leaves, there’s no way for Maxsold or the seller to know when the (potential) issue was created. Was it lost in transit? Damaged on the way home? Or is it merely a buyer trying to take advantage of the Seller after ignoring a perfectly transparent opportunity to make a claim.

Bidders that accept and live by the terms love that everything starts at $1 with the highest bidder winning. It’s a fair and transparent model for those who can accept and abide by the terms and conditions laid out (and agreed to) prior to bidding.

The lot in question is available for review below - as an independent looking at this, ask yourself if you would walk away with a $250+ purchase unless you had confirmed it was exactly what you expected if you knew that was your only change to make a claim?
https://maxsold.maxsold.com/auction/12795/item/apple-imac-laptop-and-toshiba-chromebook-1175812/

The issue is, if the buyer had concerns about cords, serial numbers, support from apple, working condition, etc. - it all could have been validated on site. In this case, the buyer chose not to do that. Despite this, Maxsold provided a partial refund (against policy). Finally, when the Seller used threatening language and made us aware that they would reverse their credit card, we removed them due to not accepting any responsibility for their action / inaction to deal with the problem on site, during the pickup, as promised by them in the terms. Had the buyer taken at least partial responsibility and not threatened to breach their agreed to terms and conditions again, they would not have been banned.

MaxSold continues to reinvest all funds made in the pursuit of its vision to Sell. Everything. Simply for downsizing and estate clients without judgement:

Long story sort. I was given a cross (12 - 14 years ago) by my now deceased husband that was stolen while he was alive, by a person known to our family. I didn't file a police report, hoping this person would own up to stealing it. I have looked everywhere for this cross as it appears to be a one of a kind. (He got it from ebay). I look constantly on Maxsold, EBTH, estate sales, Ebay, and, in the beginning pawn shops. On September 2nd I found it online in a Maxsold auction in Westbourough MA, Ruggles Street. By the time I went to bid on it, bidding was closed. I immediately contacted MS. I was told they could tell me NOTHING. They did try to contact the seller. So they say, and supposedly they never responded. Through many phone calls and emails someone let it slip that the buyer was from out of state. I've begged them to contact the buyer on my behalf and explain the situation and I would gladly purchase it from them. Radio silence. I would at least like the hometown(if it's a large Metropolitan city) of the buyer so I can concentrate my efforts of searching online in one area. Radio Silence. They are protecting their contract and the buyer and sellers names. Great, would they be breaking confidentiality by telling me the state?
I used to purchase from Maxsold. There were problems. I went to pick up items that weren't "available" and never caused a stink. I've gone to pick up items that are in dingy smelly basements, placed on the floor and I've had to carry them quite a distance. None of this bothered me. Now that I see the level of care and compassion this company has and it's refusal to help me attempt to deal with the buyer and pay for something that is a cherished item to me I can never say anything good about them. The cross I'm speaking about is the colorful one to the left of the MS card. Please, if anyone knows anything, speak up!

We are sorry that this customer has lost a cherished family item. However, we cannot share contract/personal information regarding our customers. In certain circumstances, we do reach out to customers to resolve unique situations but ultimately it is up to the customer if they are willing to support given these types of inquiries lie far outside our process. In all cases, we are trying to ensure everyone’s safety as, outside our pickup process, we cannot monitor the transactions.
Regarding this customer’s other complaints, we do strive for a reliable, efficient, safe, and transparent process but we appreciate there is always more to do when striving for a world class customer experience. Additionally, the vast majority of all auctions we conduct are done so from a person’s home in order to help them move forward. In turn, local bidders have the opportunity to place bids (or not) knowing where and when they have to be to remove their purchases. We are sorry if this customer isn’t happy with the living situations of some of our Sellers, but ultimately we are in business to help clear items they don’t have room for anymore, wherever those items may be.
Should this, or any, customer decide to bid, I would encourage them to reach out support@maxsold.com in future regarding missing items. We do have a process to resolve these sorts of issues so long as they are made known to us at time of pickup.

I have purchased items from Maxsold perviously with no issues... I believe that each city has a team and this review is about the team that looks after the Mississauga area.

I have been blacklisted by the company due to this incident... this is what I wrote to them when concerning the blacklisting and never got a response.

I was living in ottawa at the time and bid with taking into consideration the description as well as the photos... when I arrived in toronto after investing in a rental SUV to pick up my purchases I was shocked that the items that I paid market value for had a bent end panel support and a hole punched through the back... both were never disclosed in the photos or description and hence I would have never bid on that item at all.(I have photos to justify) Another item again was the same situation and the only written indication was wear with age and at no time was there photos or description again about the pitting on the metal which has a big devaluing of the item(again, I have my own photos)... pitting only happens when exposed to dampness... not age wear. Again, I would not have bid if there was proper disclosure. You are right... I tried to resolve it with your staff and was treated poorly by the staff there. I did speak to someone on the phone who did seem to look after me and then was shocked a week later when I was blacklisted. If these items were $10 or $20 purchase I would not have bothered but the two were close to over $800. I, understand that you hold your clients to high standards and I would have to agree that I would hold your service to that same standard. Your company failed me terribly and I feel it unjust that I pay the price for your staff's inability to do their job properly. That job is to be more informative concerning the condition. I should have asked in return from your company for the value of the rental and milage but I eat that to experience.

Dear Francesca - As stated on-site, over the phone and over eamil - we are sorry about the error - we gave you a full refund as soon as we could, that's all we could do. Fortunately, these errors are very few overall, our staff do our best to prevent these issues, and we monitor these problems closesly. We pride on a level of customer satisfaction that's highest in the auction industry, with a process to deal with any issues that come up (as you can see in all of these reviews.) We understand you feel this was unfair even with a full refund - we are sorry.

I chose to use Max Sold because I needed to sell off most of my household belongings including almost all of the furniture in a very short time frame. This worked and the sale was pretty successful. What was not were the two pickup days and the post-sale customer service. The woman in charge of my pickup had a serious attitude problem and became increasingly rude and aggressive towards me because the items were not assembled the way they should have been. I paid one of Max Sold's partners over a thousand dollars to do the organization and listing at the beginning of the process, and when the pickup team arrived, they were not happy with the way things were handled. There was WAY too little time and too few staff assigned for pickup.

In addition, I was promised by my MS rep that the large items would be picked up at the end of the second day to allow pickup of smaller items on table tops and shelves to be picked up first. This was completely false. The very first person to show up had bought a 5-shelf rack full of items. The rep also assured me that the staff on site would make sure no damage was done to the house by those removing furniture. This was also false. Since there wasn't enough staff to monitor the buyers, no one was watching as large pieces of furniture were moved out, causing damage to the walls on two separate occasions.

After the pickup was over, I was unable to get anyone from customer service on the phone regarding the problems. It seemed no one was willing to take my calls. After calling twice per day, every day, I finally got my rep on the phone. He didn't want to hear about the issues with the pickup team, and wanted ME to be the go-between between Max Sold and the rental management company regarding the damages. This process was supposed to make my life easier. It was supposed to all be handled professionally by MS. I had to insist he contact the management company and deal with them directly, which he did.

Then came the sale report and my check. There were FIVE items that were refunded, none of which were discussed with me. I know that four of them were exactly as described and accepted by the buyers upon pickup. The fifth was a printer that was missing a power cord. The buyer researched on his phone a replacement cord and chose to take the printer as-is. Why weren't any of these refunds discussed with me? One was a very expensive stained glass window which was in perfect condition, with the hanging hardware, exactly as described. So the buyer got a beautiful piece of art FOR FREE?!?

To say there were serious bumps in the road is an understatement. My advice is to either do a self-managed sale where you organize the items and handle the pickup, or have them (not a partner) handle the entire process, but NOT while you are trying to pack and move. I'm mostly happy with my check, but this was still WAY more aggravation than it should have been.

My worst online auction experience! They care nothing but get your money. Then whether you can get what you paid for is none of their business. They just don't care. It was not acceptable to them even if you try to take care of your property by yourselves. The so called "support" is bureaucratic, rude and arrogant, didn't even try a little bit to help when there was issue. I purchased from many online auctions. This is THE worst one. THE worst one. Buyers and sellers, keep away from this one!

As a response to Maxsold's response:
You sound like I "decided" not to show up to pick up my items. That is not true. Your bidding is open to international wide buyers and an international buyer I am. I am in USA and the auction is in Canada. So be understanding to long distance buyer's situation. I tried my best to abide by your rules. I need the local UPS store to pick up the item and ship to me. This has never been a problem as I purchased from many online auctions and worked with many UPS stores in US. Before bidding I called the UPS store in Canada (5 min away from the auction site) several times trying to arrange the possible pick up and shipping, nobody answered me or called me back. Ok, time for bidding and I won the item. So I tried another far away UPS store and I was told I have to call the pick up line. Unlike the UPS store in US, the UPS stores in Canada don't pick up. So I called the pick up line and I was told it was too short a notice and they couldn't pick up in your pick up time window. As you can see I tried my best to abide by your pick up rules but it didn't work. The world is not working perfectly according to your rule or my wish. There can be situations. Running out of choices, so I asked if your "support" can ask your local sales manager or the seller to bring my item to the UPS store that is only 5 min away. It is a small light item. With the exceptional price I paid, I don't think that is an outrageous request. Not mentioning I have no other choices to get my item. Your "support" did nothing other than bureaucratically keep stating that shipping is none of your business. OK, you don't help. I just have to help myself. Thanks to the powerful internet, I found the seller and told her about the situation. Without any hesitation, the seller kindly agreed to bring the item to the UPS store. Problem solved! Thanks to the seller again. She is a much kind person than your support is. But more astonishing to me is, even after I didn't bother with your so called "support" and solved the problem totally by myself, it was not acceptable to you. After I responded honestly to your request for feedback, your support" responded with accusations in a rude and arrogant tone and closed my account. That is it. This is my first purchase from you, and is my last purchase from you. Never want to deal with Maxsold again. There are so many other more professional online auctions where I can spend my $!

Wolf, We are not a site like Craigslist where you can decide you are not going to show up to get your things. When bidding with us we only ask you to be responsible for your actions. When you missed pickup (which you agreed to abide by when you bid with us) despite all the reminders, you put us and our sellers in a difficult position. Pickup date/time/location is critical and we mention that several times on our site and in the reminder emails. Please see the reviews of other bidders below to see how smooth the experience can be when bidding responsibly with MaxSold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKUDQZ6sSCM
