I've really enjoyed attending the intermediate/advance conversation group led by Andrei on weekend mornings. The topics are always interesting and the Union Square Barnes and Noble is a great location. Looking forward to going again soon!
I have been an organizer for my group on meetup for about seven years. In June, they jumped their pricing sky high, $44 for one month, $180 for six months, $300 for a year and encourage us to have members pay this. Granted, we have 700 members, but that burden should not be placed on them (even 50 cents). When it was about $100 per year, I could justify the cost. At $300, I cannot any longer. And by the way, that is just their standard pricing. Meetup PRO is even more ridiculous than this. When I tried to reach out to support about this, I literally got the cold shoulder. Not a single person contacted me from Meetup about this issue. That was the final straw. Sure like most greedy corporations, they will get their money somehow. We just won't be one of their supporting groups.
I sure hope another company steps in and starts offering what Meetup started with, but putting back features they took away that we all wanted, and fixing things they seem to keep breaking. It doesn't work from an organizer side, and doesn't work from a user side either. I'm baffled how you can ONLY leave a review of a group when you ARE a member, you leave a bad review, the organizer can just throw you off. I got removed from a group for nothing more than having a startle reaction to the organizer coming up and jabbing me with her hand, I explained my reaction was due to having fibromyalgia, didn't even raise my voice, and told her not to worry about it, next thing I know I'm banned from the group for "yelling" at her! Think Meetup cares? Or leaves me a way to warn other people that this organizer discriminates against people with disabilities? Nope. There is NO way to contact an organizer to even ask them to explain their decision or give an explanation, once they decide to throw you out for the most ridiculous of reasons. On the organizer side of things, we HATE that people can't decide whether to have a "maybe" option for RSVPing anymore, to better judge attendance, and notifications are spotty at best. Communication options with your groups are just terrible. Comments posted to the group are so limited in size as to be useless, but discussion group threads often missed by the majority of people. So little of the site is user-friendly, they badly need to listen to the people that use the site about what is wrong and fix it because right now they basically seem to just not care about how much everyone is struggling to keep groups running. We've had multiple groups this year shut down because people just are having so much trouble using the site and then not coming to events that organizers can't get dues to pay for their usage of it. Without a free plan to help get small groups going, I don't see many new ones starting after people have seen so many of them fail. People don't want to pay dues for a group they don't know is going to be around long-term, and the fact that Meetup bases it on the number of members in the group and not how many actually ATTEND events alone is a thing they should look at changing.
Shame, allowed fake news to destroy a good service. Any service provider needs to listen and support. Not pick sides.
Meeting organizers were hard to get ahold of and I keep getting a bunch of alerts after unsubscribing.
Pushing their political agenda. It pops up as soon as you click on the website to join their group to resist. Absolutely ridiculous.
I do not recommend. Website is not user friendly. Unable to speak directly with reps to resolve issues.
Can't find a way to send a message to meetup "help" to change the city I live in. Seriously, this should not be this difficult!
Worst thing that ever happened to meet up. It takes ages to do anything. And then it simply can't do others. I hate it.
Setting up a meetup group was easy. Paying was easy. After that, nothing was easy, and support was slow. On line help was dense. Very frustrating.
I was looking forward for a few months now to go to a meetup group in toronto its for a nightclub. She has a strict rule that if you dont show up 3 times your out of the group. Well it also said if you need to cancel and you cant come to the event you need to cancel before 48 hours or its one strike. I canceled 3 days before 48 hrs because i had an important family event i wasnt aware of. So i rsvped no. Instead of just letting it go because i followed her rules and canceled before 48 hrs she messages me, starting arguement. She said why am i canceling after i was asking her lots of questions about the event so i told her why and she didnt understand that in life things come up. She wasnt being fair because i did cancel when i was suppose too and she said im not welcome to her groups anymore. I told her as a host you should be patient and polite to your group members and help them out. She didnt care at all. Other groups i joined they are very friendly. Whats the point to have a meetup group if you cant respect members. I guess just because your a organizer it gives you a right to bully others. I reported her to meetup but i dont know what they can do about it. Im sure other people had that experience as well. She wasnt even respecting her own policy.so i quit her groups. I was suspicious of her because when i asked her questions about the event her answers were very short and she sounded annoyed. I wouldnt feel safe if i had to meetup with her. I didnt want to put her name up on public forum. People do need to watch out which groups they join. There are alot of dangerous people out there.
The pictures on the main screen is way too small. The app is totally frustrating. Bring back the prior app!
Anyone can easily join a resist site
Anyone can easily cancel their meetings
Anyone can easily leave the group.
In that order...
Staunchly oppose the anti-american, pro-terrorist rhetoric this group espouses. Take it somewhere else.
Yep, on February 13 they insulted half the country for absolutely no purpose. Great job guys! Clearly, only certain kinds of people are welcome.
I would not join or ever pay for a group on this site.
You can't share your opinion without censorship and removal.
Tip for consumers:
Only view. Never offer ideas, comments - even constructive ones. They Company Meet-up thinks they are above everyone else and can act out as they choose.

This is a site with groups to meet-up - Only the group has to pay fees. Not worth the Group paying because this is just another censorship site.
I don't even know what to say... they are methodically disabling everything that made Meetup great for such a long time
They have made it extremely difficult to cancel subscriptions. You are billed even after cancelling a subscription.
Can you say adulterous men preying on desperate women? Pretty much the purpose behind these groups. For loser only.
Meetups setting up these Resist groups deeply upsets me. Firstly whatever your belief system I think it is best for companies to stay non political.
But lets unpack what Meetup are supporting. I am traditionally leftwing and consider myself a feminist, I am pro choice, and I also feel very sorry for the Syrian and Iraqi refugees, and I do understand that some innocent people will be caught up in this Muslim ban, and yes I have many reservations about Trump, but at the same time many Muslims around the world are practicing extremely oppressive practices against women, gays, apostates, people of other faiths etc, and there is also the problem of increasing Islamic terrorism.
I have increasingly seen my leftwing and feminist networks hijacked by Islamic extremists who are there for their own purposes. Case in point, Linda Sarsour Co-Chair of the Womens March supports sharia law, and has tweeted in the past that she would like to give Ayaan Hirsi Ali an a*** whipping and take away her vag*na. Hard to believe but true (google it). Particularly cruel considering Ayaan was a victim of female genital mutilation and is currently lives with a fatwa death sentence over her head.
When Meetup takes the side of Islamic extremists then it is obvious to me that they consider my rights as a woman as negligible. And its an incredible double standard for Meetup to decry Trump but support those who support the oppression of womens rights and human rights violations. But of course if I object to the subjugation of my own sex I am called a bigot.
This was a good service once, but that was before Scott Heiferman decided to provide infrastructure and organization to the violent protests we see today. #NoMeetup #NoAntifa #CivilRightsForAll
I was having some ongoing problems in my 8 year relationship and was leaving my relationship and signed up. A few day later I was called by Tiffany@*******006. She was extremely invasive, pushy and wouldn't take no for an answer over 3 times. Before she got off the phone she asked how long I had been in my relationship, and had the GALL to ask why I hadn't popped the question before now (in a manner that was supposed to be a slam) and as I told her that is my business and got ready to hang up she got another snide comment in. I not only will never consider this service, I am going to report them to the BBB and every forum. What I found most amazing is she is trying to sell and appointment to sell a membership in person. I am in sales and never have I been so man handled, and she talked over me so bad that I finally said OK you talk. I will be doing a reverse lookup and letting the world know your name and # Tiffany. You might want to take some sales seminars on how to treat people and how to listen, which is 90% of sales.
If I could give this service negative stars I would. Tiffany is frustrated because she works for a shady operation and that makes her desperate, pushy, aggressive, and arrogant. All the things most people would run from in a salesperson. Selling memberships (under the guise of Activities Coordinator) Shame on you Tiffany. This is 100% true no sensationalism. Was that poor of an experience. If this is how Meetup.com gets people to join their service. Good Luck, you'll need it! Now time to post Tiffany's conversation with me on You Tube. She thought she was going to bully me and make rude and unacceptable comments without reprise. Guess again the conversation was recorded (for quality assurance of course). :)
Events are decent but most people are rude, uneducated Yankees with no grip on reality, especially around East TN.
As the member of a MeetUp group, I received notice that my group was losing it's leader, and that the group would be closed if someone did not step up to take over. I could not see any notes from the prior leader, and sent a note of inquiry to SEVERAL MeetUp email addresses listed on their pages. No response, other than receiving additional notices that the group was closing because there was no one stepping up to take over. Hmmph. They were willing to let me pay some ~$60 fee to transfer responsibility, but were not willing to answer questions about previous group activities. I finally got an email response, but he was unable to answer my query about the group BEFORE IT CLOSED. I was then referred to another person, who told me the group was closed (DUH) and why didn't I start another group. WHY WOULD I START ANOTHER GROUP? They don't or can't support the groups they already HAVE. Took myself off their stupid platform, I advise that NO ONE start ANYTHING with these folks, they don't deserve the attention.

Meetup is a FRAUD! I want my money back! Meetup is a FRAUD! I want my money back! Meetup is a FRAUD! I want my money back!
We schedule a trip and the organizer cancelled the trip and have not returned our money. We did several meetups in the past and it was fine.
If horrible customer service wasn't bad enough they started pushing their own extreme political agenda. #resist joining this worthless site
