Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.

I've sold many things here. This is a place were you can sell faster. I love mercari. I have bought things here too, they make it so safe for buyers to buy and the return policy is great for buyers.
It's easy and stress free. And most people prefer buying here because they go low as 4$ for shipping.
Sure there are scammer customers just like any other websites. It's easy to report on mercari their staff is attentive and helpful.

Sellers and buyers please beware of mercari for your own sanity. This site is dubious and very shady. I came on mercari to sell my laptop which I did on 3/15/2021, had it shipped to the buyer the same day with a mercari prepaid label. Item was said to have delivered the next day 3/16 but buyer stated she never received the item. I contacted mercari via email to file a claim and I was advised by mercari support to contact the shipping carrier. Since then I have been bounced around from one representative to another and still haven't gotten paid for my laptop till now! My item has been shipped alright but mercari refuses to pay me! And now they are saying I have lost my shipping protection because I filed a claim with the shipping carrier whereas mercari support told me to! How do I report this company? Someone please help.
Reviews are automated. You have 3 days to write your review, if not, one is auto generated for you. I had 6 sellers not send my purchased items and there's no reprimand if they don't commit to the agreement. This site is so shady!

I bought an item which the seller termed "in good condition." When it arrived, it was missing a part. I contacted Mercari and asked to return the item for a refund. I just received pre-generated e-mails saying since the seller had " held up their end" they would release my funds to him/her and give me "Mercari credit." I am out $18.00. Don't let this happen to you.
The fact that they don't let you challenge items or even review sellers after 3 days proves they're a site designed for scammers. I was sent a completely different item than described but because I was out and didn't get the package within 3 days, there's nothing I can do about it.
Mercari isn't owning up to a mistake that happened which informed me my purchased item got canceled. I bought a comparable item to replace it. Contacted my seller through no help from Mercari ( had to go through another listing), and having trouble even requesting a return. I keep getting your issue has bee. Resolved or please kindly share what the problem is... AGAIN! Please do not buy or sell with them. I have been selling on mercari awhile now, probably a year and a half. 617 positive ratings. I ship almost daily, had return buyers and requires this income. Tonight I received an email saying I was creating accounts after being suspended, violating their rules, all my listing, over 599 of them, are now inactive and pending deletion. I reached out and was told I had other accounts associated with me, which I don't, and I've never had more than one account. They won't listen and I'm losing a year and half of daily work, my income, and my account that I can't replace. I'm so upset. Never again.
I've been very pleased with Mercari. I've had issues and needed customer service help before. They've always been very helpful. I highly suggest you look over their terms and conditions when you begin an account. Most of the complaints I've seen are due to people not following their rules or understanding them.
Mercari's customer service is $#*! and they don't give a $#*! about sellers, but they certainly protect buyers. People can buy your $#*! and not pay you and they are ok with it. I hope these mother $#*!ers burn in hell, or better yet get hit by a truck and bleed out.
I used to love shopping on mercari for the odd "garage sale" style items you could find a fair price, but now it seems the prices have gone up and the sellers are less reliable. Out of the 4 purchases I have made within the last month I received 1 item and it was broken. I will be deleting the app here shortly and going back to craigslist. Save yourself some time and do the same.

Requested a refund because seller didn't ship item during the specified time of 3 business days. I contacted Mercari about refunding by money. I cant get a response from them now. They want me to beg the seller, and leave it up to him for the shipping date

And once you write the review, can't send the item back. This company is a big laugh. Use only if you want to be fully disappointed.

Mercari can be good for certain items. Some people are honest and sell items they describe thoroughly. Other times people sell items describing they are good or like new and you'll get garbage that the homeless wont even take. There's been a couple of times I've tried to return items that I received that were falling apart when arrived. They quickly declined and wont follow up. They copy and past the same message everytime saying sorry but your return doesn't seem like a valid reason. It's soo bizarre because you can clearly see in the picture that certain items are defective. This has me to believe that they dont even look at the pictures or read you're reason for return. It's very frustrating that you cant talk to someone on the phone or explain your side of story. Even when you buy the items and the seller hasn't shipped it in 2 weeks they will make you wait to cancel. Mercari has one the worst customer service that I've ever experienced.
When I started selling on Mercari the shipping rates were the best in the industry. I have been selling about a year. For example, 1 to 3 pounds was $5, then it changed to $6.50, and then a few weeks ago $11.50 usps and $9.50 fed ex. That's an increase of $5 increase USPS. That's a huge jump! They only charge 10% to sell, but it appears they either did not negotiate a good rate for sellers or they are making something off the shipping. I will no longer promote this site to sellers. So disappointed.
Don't ever use this site. They are scam artists. I just purchased a vintage tee shirt through poshmark for $20 not including shipping which was supposed to arrive in 3-5 days. Nothing yet. Today I see the identical shirt being sold for $30 on Mercari through a seller named Flip. I reported this to PayPal this morning. I decided to to through the sign up process to message Flip, the seller, about this issue and if he knew anything about it. Mercari deleted my message. I sent another message asking why my message was deleted. Nothing. I took photos of a new message with it also being deleted within seconds.
I get that my initial issue is through poshmark but there is something going on that is not right when Mercari won't allow messages to the seller of a product I purchased and have yet to receive.

They charge for prepaid shipping labels and when you try to track them sometimes it doesn't work and when I say sometimes I mean about 50 to 60% of the time. So you pay money for a prepaid shipping label that says you can track it and then mercari proceeds to give you an invalid tracking number or a tracking number that can't update and then on top of that they leave it up to the buyer to acknowledge if they receive the item or not. And not all buyers are honest so as a seller cause this has happened to me numerous times. I've sold items package them up shipped them to the buyer and then mercari kept the payout. The buyer kept the item and I got screwed on both. This is a common business practice for mercari. They are downright pathetic and grimy platform and their criminal business practices will get them shut down in time.

Selling platform is super easy to use. Customer support is absolutely terrible and they do nothing at all to help you. They also give way too much power to the buyers making sellers wait days weeks months at a time to get compensated because a buyer doesn't feel like making a simple rating.
I've been with mercari for years and have over 1,000 positive reviews. My mercari account was hacked and they bought $1,300 in tennis shoes. Tried to get sellers to change address. Mercari caught on and canceled the transactions and blocked my account. I notified my bank of the bogus mercari charges and filed a claim (still pending). It took 3 days to re-activate my account during which I received a empty box I had paid $240 for. Since my account was frozen mercari rated the transaction and released the money. They nicely told me I'm out of luck. Seriously. ZERO protection from these crooks.
I just wasted $270 on a sewing machine I've really been wanting. It was advertised as brand new in the box. It was not. It was most definitely used, smelled like an ashtray and was missing parts. I put in a negative review, not realizing that this would close my purchase and send the money to the scammer that sold me the used sewing machine. This isn't ebay - there seems to be no buyer protection in place or anything else. I will go through my credit card company and see if I can get some satisfaction there.
This is a decent place to buy and sell your new or used items. I have sold quite a few products on the app and everything went smoothly for me. I like that they only give people 3 days to report any issues before the payment goes through. It makes it harder for people to scam. I do think that there needs to be better customer service, especially for sellers. It would also be better if I was able to promote my items without lowering the price.
If you have returns that are sent back to you trashed this platform could care less! Your item sells they give the buyers 3 days to " use" it before returning. If its trashed like my camcorder was they just claim you didn't send on time. I know i did tho because I replied immediately
I have purchased from several site and by far this is the worst. This site stands behind scam sellers before their customers. Just try going through their time consuming and convoluted return policy. This site doesn't vet their sellers at all. Most scammers I have ever seen. This site protects its self, then the scam sellers, and if they get around to it they will then get to the customers with problems. If you want to review or dispute you automatically lose your right to a return. Terrible site. Take it from me, shop on eBay instead!

To be fair, I want to write an update to say that Mercari finally responded to my lost package by giving me a store credit for the purchase, including ship fee, which I must use within 30 days. They included a $5 promotional coupon. Mercari is my last place to shop regardless after EBay, Poshmark or Swap. So not sure if I will be using the credit within 30 days. I still haven't heard back from the postal service or the postman regarding my item. Maybe it will show up after the holidays.

I don't often buy from Mercari. The few times I've purchased from them, I've had no problems except recently, an item was marked as shipped and USPS tracking said it was delivered but I never received the item. I contacted my local post office and reached out to Mercari for help. On the Mercari's help center, it said they will help with lost packages. I have yet to hear back from Mercari, not even an acknowledgement email. The post office is bombarded with packages during the holiday season, so my purchase may eventually show up. Fortunately, the item was less than $10 so not a great loss. I'm hesitant to continue to shop on Mercari due to their lack of support. Ebay, Poshmark, and Amazon are much better. I purchase all my clothing items online because I hate to shop at the mall; this is the first time an item has been lost. I'm disappointed with Mercari's lack of response and customer support.
All 3 orders arrived broken. The sellers said I had to contact Mercari. There is no way to contact them so I contacted PayPal. Once Metcari got my PayPal dispute they offered to refund my money but only if I return all 3 damaged boxes of merchandise. I also have to pay for the return postage! Ridiculous! Then they threatened me that if I ever contact PayPal again over a dispute, they'd cancel my account. I will be contacting PayPal about their terms and their threat. Don't waste your time and money at this company. They could care less about you. They just want your money!
