I would give it 5 stars, but they added seller fees on top of paying taxes. A $9 item would earn you $3. Seems so unfair. But other than that, my items sell fast and I have made quite a bit selling on here.
This seller is a fraud. Do not buy from him you'll never get your item. I bought a backpack on Dec 13th. 5 days later I messaged seller and he replied that his printer broke and he would go to his office the next day to print a label and try his hardest to ship item that evening. A few days later I messaged him again to see if he was able to ship the item I purchased but he would never respond back to me. Today I told him I wanted a refund and he sent me a nasty message back in return.
This is the worst company around. This is Ebay for crack heads. They will nickle and dime you for everything. Customer Service is even worse. No one knows anything and cannot give you any information nor even attempt to help you.

You have to wait for the buyer to receive the item and rate you as a seller. Then you wait to rate the buyer. Then the money goes onto your Mercari account. Then you have to transfer the money by Direct Deposit which could take up to 10 days, or you could do an instant but you will get charged for that. Once you request the Direct Deposit they ask for a photo ID which takes 4 days to verify.
So in the end here is what you will experience and do not believe any other review that states otherwise.

I have been buying and selling on this site for 3 years, mostly buying, having a couple items for sale here and there. Anyway, I was on vacation and my package came a couple days before I returned. I opened the package and it was the wrong item. So the seller gave me her number claiming she lost the items. Whatever, so I opened a claim to let Mercari know this so I could get a return label and send it back. Mercari then charged me before I could get a response. So I disputed the charge with my bank and Mercari suspended my account...
I then had to close the claim out when the seller sent me the correct item. They took 2 weeks to resolve this. Then the seller sent me the wrong item again and I opened another claim as soon as I received the item. The app is faulty so every time I tried to send the messages on the claim, it kept giving me an error message... Mercari got back to me and said sorry to hear but you received the item so we had to release the funds to the seller!
Then they restricted my account again! This is so wrong of them and they shouldn't be in business.
They should be sued.

Since their system won't let me write a review for a bad seller, I will rate Mercari as a bad seller. I bought something from a seller and he told me he didn't realize due to the size of the item, it would cost more to ship so he decided to "sell it to someone local". I then offered him $10 above the asking price for it and that I would pay the supposed $55.00 shipping charge and he still cancelled. He has 5 cancels out of 10 sales. Since the item wasn't "sold" to me it won't let me leave feedback! Mercari should look into this. There is something wrong with this. So now I am penalized by having to wait between 5 and 10 days to get my money back in my account. They sent me email with this in it."We work hard to prevent cancellations and protect the marketplace for everyone. Reliable sellers deliver orders as promised. Sellers with frequent cancellations will lose their marketplace privileges." So I guess 50% cancellations don't count! I think this guy gets better offers or thinks twice about selling at the price listed and cancels the order to get more money. I mean HALF of the orders cancelled? I will think more than twice before I buy again off of Mercari.

Unacceptable - bought something and when I got it, it was not at all what I expected
The seller said she was sorry for the issue an would handle it. I did a refund request on Mercari and they refused it (even though this is a Louis Vuitton keychain and I would never have paid this much had I know it was almost dry-rotted!
Before I could even get the info back from Mercari, the seller blocked me and I can't message her OR leave her feedback.
Mercari said I could "sell it back" on the site, but why would I want to sell something that isn't in decent shape? Unacceptable! So just turn around and pass this problem to someone else?
They keep emailing me saying they are sorry but won't fix anything. If you are sorry, fix it!
I just sold a purse for $500 on the site, so they have made their money off me, but won't fix it when someone else gives me junk? Really?

So don't buy from this seller- look what I paid for it, look how thin it is! It is stiff and very small. Doesn't have a keyring on it either. Yes, it is authentic but it isn't even usable. Won't fit a credit card, chapstick or really anything!

I purchased a used vhs deck from Zaza's Closet. The order has the correct address, but Zaza sent it to the wrong address, per USPS, who I had to spend several phone calls and hours to contact. Mercari told me to wait 48 hours to make sure the package wasn't just incorrectly listed as delivered, and by that time, when I finally got through to USPS and found out it had gone to the wrong address, Mercari had given Zaza's closet an automatic five-star review on my behalf for a product I never received. When I messaged Zaza, they said tough, it was delivered (to the wrong address) and without saying they would resend the deck if the wrong recipient returned it, Zaza blocked me, making it impossible for me to contact them.

This is by far THE ABSOLUTE WORST SALES PLATFORM AVAILABLE. BE WARE OF MERCARI. THEY'LL LOCK YOUR ACCOUNT AND TAKE YOUR MONEY WITH NO EXPLANATION OR WARNING. YOU GO TO LOG IN, YOUR ACCONYS RESTRICTED OR LIMITED AND YOUR MONEY HAS DISAPPEARED. I have called the BBB and reported the monies they have stolen from my account. Sad part is, I had almost $2500. In completed sales. Mercari has stolen every last penny from me. They are a bunch of liars and thieves.

I am fuming right now.
I have been selling on this app for some time now. I have been selling watches and belts, knowingly selling as replicas, and making 100% certain that the customer knows this as well. Yes, this is against the rules and I know that. However, the fact that Mercari says I make their community "unsafe" pisses me off, as to the number of people blatantly scamming and selling counterfeit items as real is ungodly.
What's more, Mercari takes 10% of your sale, and claims that this is "easier" than eBay, who does not do this practice.
So, the fraudulent owners of Mercari completely ignore scammers, because guess what? More money for them!
I have been banned twice from this app. The second time, they froze my funds, which is at $450. ALL OF THE ITEMS HAD BEEN SHIPPED AND RECEIVED, AS WELL AS HAVE BEEN REVIEWED AT 5 STARS.
To have the funds released, they say they require my social security number as well as a government issued ID.
I hate everything about this app

I purchased a Roomba i7 advertised as NEW IN BOX. Mercari closed the ability to rate the seller or get a refund after 72 hours from supposed drop off time. Will never do business on this site again!

I know some people who've had their account suspended by Mercari and money seized. I've also read a lot of reviews of same. For those people that want to take action against Mercari, write a letter to the Attorney General in your state explaining the situation then send a copy of same letter to both the Attorney General in Delaware (where Mercari is Incorporated) and the Attorney General in California (where Mercari is located and is registered with the Secretary of State as a Delaware Corp.). Mercari claims to have made MILLIONS in 2016 and that is strange since for the most of that year THERE WERE NO SELLER FEES PAID TO MERCARI. So how did Mercari make their money? Were their profits the result of the HUNDREDS of people who've had their account closed and money seized by Mercari? I wouldn't be surprised.

Mercari allows fake designer items (Louis Vuitton in my case) to be sold. They do not allow those scammed to return the items! STAY AWAY from this scam site.

There are a lot of great buyers and sellers on Mercari, The app is fairly easy to use. All my buyers have been great people and once my bank account was set up with the site, every time I have requested a draft of my earnings, it is done in 1-2 business days. I do wish they had a vacation hold for your listings and a way for customers to bundle multiple items from your Mercari store. Of course like anywhere in life or dealing with the public, you may end up with someone who is impossible to deal with or just a plain scammer. It is sad to see so many people give this site a bad review because of a problem beyond Mercari's control. Overall it is a great site, I get sales every week. Eventually I am sure I will have a problem, but you will with any sales anywhere. You will always get lowball offers. If you sell on Craigslist you will meet skeevy people in person. I operate a retail store, people come in open packaging and destroy merchandise, break things accidentally throw things on the floor, go in to try things on in the dressing room and leave a mess of clothes everywhere you need to spend hours re-hanging and then some are just thieves and outright shoplift merchandise! If you are selling online you will need to deal with lowball offers and you may occasionally need to deal with a fraudulent return or possibly a theft of one of you items from a scammer buyer, it is simply a cost of doing business and, trust me, is MUCH easier than dealing with people in person. If you can't handle the occasional problem, you should not blame the site, blame mankind in general.

Full of SCAMS, If you get unlucky and text the scammer, and they ask to purchase outside the app, YOU WILL ALSO FACE CONSEQUENCES. If you buy from a scammer, you WILL HAVE TO WAIT DAYS FOR A REFUND. If you try to talk to support you will wait DAYS for a automated response. If you add a card to a account, that card CANNOT BE USED ON ANY OTHER. BEWARE!

I love almost everything about Mercari EXCEPT ONE thing that drives me insane. I want to use the app on my iPad without having to go to safari. The app doesn't rotate. Maybe I am missing a memo. People use iPads as much as iPhones especially when writing descriptions. PLEASE PLEASE UPDATE!

I am a 20 year full-time online selling professional and I have never seen such a complete debacle that is Mercari's policies and customer service. In a nutshell, their app, which has been known to be glitching due to a recent update, glitched on me causing an incorrect shipping weight. Round and round for two weeks with their reps and I was told conflicting advice on what to do including just ship it anyway and let USPS deal with it. WHAT REPUTABLE COMPANY SAYS THAT? Honestly!
The simplest and correct solution would be to just cancel the incorrect label and send a new one taking the extra fee out of my balance but nope. For some reason they "can't" do that. Two weeks going back and forth and not one rep even acknowledged the glitch that caused the issue in the 1st place. At one point they even called me someone else's name. If that doesn't prove they don't care and are just giving pat replies, I don't know what does.
In the end I ended up shipping on my dime so as not to make my customer wait any longer because unlike Mercari, I care about my customers. Luckily she had had similar issues with them and was very lovely and understanding.
In 20 years I've never seen such complete unprofessional and backwards policies and awful customer service. I have stopped listing on Mercari and have been removing my items to their direct competition.
All over $6. Good job Mercari, that $6 was worth way more to you then the thousands in fees I'd have brought in over time. Well done!
