There's a lawsuit coming their way soon from what I've heard from some top government people. They won't be around for too long. Don't risk doing business with them as a buyer or seller. These people are criminals! 99% of feedbacks are negative except the ones that are paid reviews.
Mercari is a horrible website when it comes to protecting sellers! I have a 70 feedback all positive and recently packed carefully a tested and working Wii console with games controllers etc, When buyer received it she claimed it did not read discs or eject them. I test ALL items before shipping as I sell both on Ebay, craigslist, Facebook marketplace and never do i have an issue. I explained I would be happy to have buyer file a claim with FedEx as I can only imagine it was dropped and caused the issue. So she requested a return not even 8 hours later before I could even email Mercari about getting ahead of the problem the grant her request, and It will be over my dead body before I let them make me lose $40 profit. Its just not right I am planning on pressing this one until I get satisfaction. According to their policy if an item is returned and not functioning as you sent it then I should be able to pursue it. How can they expect an honest seller to bear the burden of eating the cost of an item that was working when shipped and packed properly?

I made a deal with the seller. I paid, got a confirmation, and about a half hour later, I got a cancellation notice. I tried contacting the seller and it told me that I can't contact the seller by any means. I can even ask why. WTH!
I purchased a tote, received email it was purchased, received email item would ship next day, another email about the shipping costs which were advertised as free, then queenfancypants the seller cancels the order. First and last time I use this site.
I have made three purchases on Marcari. The sales were flawless. But... when I tried to rate the seller two times it said that the transaction has been cancelled. So I'm not sure my seller is getting their money. There is nowhere to contact anybody about this. I wasted 30 minutes trying to fix this. I guess Ill have to wait until the seller contacts me, probably giving me a poor rating.
Do not rate or you will lose your money with no exception! They rush you to review the item. And then you find out afterwards you can't return it because you did the review. Just unacceptable, I purchase a 427.00 item to fine out from my mechanic that the item was discontinued and defective, I called right away and never get ahold of anyone and calls were being drop for being on hold to long and to find out the email I been sending to was incorrect. It was misunderstanding as a first time customer. The help desk was no help what so ever. Gave a $5.00 coupon for my next purchase. There will not be a next time. I spent way more than a 5.00 coupon.

- The wrong item is received

I have sold and bought on Mercari for a few years now. However recently I received a review of 4 stars telling me shipping was slow! I sent it within hours of it being purchased and the user received it on the next business day. WTF! It doesn't get any faster then that! I had another user tear off the security seal to steal parts off of the unit. When i wouldn't accept it back after that, they bad mouthed my reviews. Mercari does nothing about it.
I got the same problem today. I have selling on there for 2 month now. Have 11 transaction with all 5 star reviews. They just suddenly shot my account down and hold my balance over $900 from sales before. What should i do? And suggestion? They have no right to do that to your money right? It is my money from my finished transaction sales! How could they do that? And i saw a lot of fake handbags selling on it, of caused the seller marked as"authentic" but you could easily tell it is 100%fake from the pictures, and I did report to Mercari, they dont care, and did not removed the list from them. I m very disappointed about this company, never ever use it again. Recommend POSHMARK instead, more easy to use and the offer free authentication when item price over $500. That is the way to protect buyers and sellers in my opinion.

This is honest. I can't relate to anything being said on here. I have over 60 reviews. Every time I needed to get them on the phone, they are around (business hours). Hold time can be long. And, every issue was resolved. As a buyer, I received 2 defective items... no problems at all. I returned the items and immediate refund was given. I also had a buyer that tried to scam me out of $250, he claimed he never got it, delivery confirmation shows delivered and Mercari released the funds in 48 hours. For those who try to say poshmark is better... LOL. Absolutely 100% wrong. I usually transfer a few hundred dollars at a time and it shows up in my bank 2 or 3 days later. I also keep money in the account, with NO issues. So after reading all these complaints... I'm like, HUH?
So I have a question: If a seller brings them money (10%), why would they drop you? Something sounds off. I don't get it. For me, and I can be a huge critic... this site is the easiest, simplest selling app I've worked on, so far.
I sold a Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and a VS PINK Lanyard and they shut my account down saying that i am not authorized to sell these products. There are so many people selling the same products and they are still active, I actually got the idea to sell these products from the Mercari App.
The kicker of it all is that they are holding my $205.00 for three months that I did not earn from selling these two items. The total from selling the mascara and the lanyard was $26.00 They said they needed to hold my funds in case someone complained about the items I sold them. This is complete bull$#*!! I called there customer service number an to this day (2 months later) NO one has called me back!

First off, I'm a seller on eBay. So I decided to use Mercari as well.
Its very easy. I've bought quite a lot through this site and I also sell a lot, I have all 5 star ratings.
As a seller, you get paid once the buyer confirms they received their item- to prevent the buyer from being scammed, and they have up to 3 days to do so. Also, mercari does not accept returns once you've rated your buyer/seller, that's in fine print, when you rate it confirms the sale is complete.
Once, I did not receive an item as a buyer, and I got a refund for it right away when I reached out to Marcari. The only thing to look for is the ratings for the sellers- read their reviews. I've had absolutely no troubles at all as a buyer and a lot of success as a seller.
Closed my account which had 30+ really good reviews. I made another account and they closed that one too (22 good reviews) after I asked for a refund because a seller sold me a damaged item. So they gave the seller a 5 star and their money but won't release my funds of $100+ and a credit, and closed my account, it's ridiculous. This is a horrible app. I wish there was another active platform. Don't use them!
I received a broken device and when I tried to make a claim they're unreachable unable to return item. Garbage would never use them again
My daughter buys and sells and has her own fashion site, she uses POSHMARK at times and loves it. MERCARI is a NON USA based scam company has over 300- of her money that she legitimately sold items to customers and never got paid. I can only hope moving forward that we can get a client based lawsuit placed against them. It's WRONG and they ARE NOT LEGITIMATE in any way at all, DO NOT USE THIS SITE!

This site insulates themselves from any type of conventional and responsible interaction with buyers particularly if something goes wrong. If you are someone who uses this type of transaction method only occasionally and don't understand the world you are getting into, it could be disastrous. My issue involves less than $50 under what I believe the buyer protection plan is meant to cover but I have absolutely no way to even contact them about the concern. If this is the way of the world from here on out, help us all.
I never really write reviews about any app because I dont have the time to do so, but if an app or service is really good I give a 5 star and give credit where its do, the concept of the mercari platform is a great one specially since ebay and amazon have the market cornered, mercari is an opportunity to sell on another platform and make some money on the side or so it seems but unfortunately I have experienced nothing but headaches with them. I have had mercari probably since 2016 untill this year, I was selling fine had amazing reviews from customers and was a great seller on that platform until out of no where Mercari team decided to close my account. They didn't even want to give me my pending money that was on hold. They mentioned I was selling copyright infringed items but when I showed them proof of purchase with receipts they still suspended my account indefinitely basically cutting one of my income streams. I must let every seller know that mercari regardless of how appealing it is looks out for number one, that's themselves. Sellers are the backbone of their business without us they are nothing without buyers they are nothing its time to start doing something about this injustice!

If you have returns that are sent back to you trashed this platform could care less! Your item sells they give the buyers 3 days to " use" it before returning. If its trashed like my camcorder was they just claim you didn't send on time. I know i did tho because I replied immediately
