Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
Mercari allows false advertising from sellers. Seller advertised a good, fully functional phone. It is in poor condition. Charging port is damaged, volume control doesn't work, discharges quickly. BUYER BEWARE!
I received a jar of cream from a seller that was expired. I checked the batch code in the jar and it is five years old! I contacted the seller and customer service and didn't get any response. I can't believe I thought this was a reputable site! Never again!

I ordered a phone battery. Shortly after receiving, i discovered that changing it was very involved. I was told I couldn't change it myself by someone who works for Assurion.it was way too complicated. I ask mercari if I could send it back, but they told me I was beyond my return window. They only allow 3 days for returns.

I purchased a brooch back in December 2021. The brooch was lovely and I really appreciated the purchase. So I leave an awesome review and the seller gives me 3 stars! What the@#$%?! And then the seller blocks me like a coward... and this is how you get treated on Mercari... lovely.

I sold a item on mercari and was provided with a shipping label. Once i shipped the I was told by the buyer that the product arrived damaged and missing. Instead of mercari honoring their worries free shipping, i was stuck without the product and money. Never will I do business here again.

I purchased a Pinkie plush (from Pinkie and the Brain). I got a confirmation of purchase and paid for my item. 13 days later, I am wondering why my item never came. I get on to track my shipping and see that my purchase was cancelled because "the item is being held for someone else". I was never emailed, texted or notified in any way and it is right before Christmas. This site is trash and I am never using them again.

Just recently, I bought myself a very expensive item worth $350. Accidentally it was shipped to the wrong address but no worries, I picked it up a week later, but the seller insisted on an early rating which was suspicious. I refused it but mercari put it through anyways. When I opened the package, it was empty. I called the seller out on the fraud in which she says that I scammed HER (the usual jerk act). I filed a claim with mercari, and after a long process of me running back and forth to the post office, getting all the information they needed and explaining, taking pictures and praying, mercari decides to release funds to the seller before the claim was even finished! Do NOT trust this company. Your money is in their hands and it's nearly gaurnteed you won't get it back. $350 lost to an inconsiderate scammer. Run before you get trapped in their stupid game.

After paying for my purchase, the seller cancelled, saying they couldn't ship within the time frame required by Mercari. Seller agreed I could re-buy once they were back in town. Seller then waited a period of time and relisted the item for higher price. When I message about this, seller said they're selling it for someone else and they wanted more for the item. Then she blocked me.

Tip for consumers:
Mercari does not work well on behalf of buyers. Aslo, If you don't check out your purchase within 3 days, they will automatically give the seller a good rating. At that point, if the product doesn't work or has problems, you're out of luck. If you purchase and will not be able to test your purchase within 3 days, don't buy. Because of this, sellers who ship defective or broken items are receiving good reviews from Mercari. You cannot trust the reviews

1) Received an electronic item that was a gift, while out of town, so did not open and test for about 3 or 4 days. Item was non-working. Mercari said we were past the 3 days so no help. They also gave the seller a good review.
2) Another seller cancelled order after I paid, to re-list at higher price.

I brought a Nintendo Wii and it works okay but the USB ports are damaged and don't work. This wasn't listed on or shown before I purchase the wii. I messaged the seller he never got back to me. Reach out to customer service they said it's a three day return policy which is the craziest thing I ever heard there should be a least 30 days. Customer service was so rude to me and blew me off saying it was my problem basically. I work in customer service this is not how you treat a customer at all. This whole situation is a scam. I will never order from this website again and I recommend no one buy anything from this site horrible service probably the worst service I ever had. I recommend and other website do not use this website at all.

Mercari has no protection at all for sellers, if you sell and item and the buyer claims they did not get what was described in the photo, Mercari will grant them a refund and as long as they use their shipping label they can literally send you an empty package, that is exactly what happened to me the buyer kept the item and sent me back an empty package. The buyer was given her refund and I was scammed. I contacted the postal service and they confirmed the package had no contents and I sent mercari the proof and they responded back me to after 3 days saying its too late buyer was already refunded. It is a horrible horrible company! I took all my items off the site as I will not allow myself to ever get scammed again. Shame on Mercari!

They don't follow there own rules. I shipped with there label following all the rules. Shipped with FedEx and FedEx said it was package safe. The item was broke in shipping which is insured and they didnt reimburse me. I'm going to fedex Thursday and seeing if they collected the insurance. This was antiques. Attaching pictures of what was said. And pictures of the items before shipping

Not impressed with all the seller scams. Lots of Target items with drastic markups and huge shipping fees! For example: I bought a $5 pillow at target and wanted to get another for a friend. Mercati was top 3 hits in google search with lowest price at $15 + $11.95 shipping for exact same pillow (even noted in ad as Target brand) utterly ridiculous and a total ripoff!

Check the real stores first before purchasing at huge markup on Mercati.

Seller sent item that reeked of cigarette smoke. Odor isnt a "valid" reason to return and since return was requested can warn others either. Reviews with 5 and 4 stars were left mentioning the smoke. The buyers upset enough to leave appropriate ratings likely requested refunds! Buyers Beware!

Most all of the merchandise they sell is fake if you do not review the merchandise within 3 days of receiving it they automatically do it for you and then if the merchandise is not as described which my 2 experiences it was not you are stuck with it
If you do notify them before 3 days that the merchandise is fake they make it so hard for you to return it that most people would just say the hell with it.
They ask for so many pictures then after you send them they ask for more they just want to get you so discussed that you just say forget it
There other scam it when they ask you for information in a email a normal person would just hit reply and answer there fake questions the scam is under there email address it states reply to another email address big time scam so if you just reply to the email you received they will say you never did
They are also owned and operated by a company not in the USA be warned do not do business with them.

I listed a couple of items and then they closed my account and asking to provide receipt of all the item i listed. Seriously? Most listed items are from my closet and bought some of it long time ago. Waste of my time. Support service are rude people. Never again.

No consumer protection. They only have the seller protection. I just experienced the worst seller I have ever experienced. No customer service to reach unless we spend money on the site. The seller's heaven, unprofessional attitude, rudeness, scammers, and they block the honest customer's account! (other review). I won't visit this site for my protection.

I've received two lladros broken. There are articles all over the site that will tell you your cover and to fill out the form below to request a return, but guess what? There IS no form. I tried on my phone then went to my computer. Also when you request help on a certain item, the contact button doesn't do anything. When I finally made some progress to request the return of my $170 lladro purchase, I got the message this item doesn't qualify for returns. I am livid. They plaster the site with how your covered and protected, there is no number I can find to call anywhere, and all the "help" leads you to the same articles with no other options.

We are 4 people living in same home roommates we sell online on every platform mercari banned us because we ship from same adress and sell similar products. Got the ID verification still not paying us $2000. Does not protects costumer or seller! People who thinks they are brand expert can report you and you can get suspend 24 hours until you proof. Can not get your problem solved in a day you may need to wait 3 days. Funny think you get suspend and can not message anyone but costumer can write you, costumer think you do not answer them. Really bad quality no need to waste your time and money. Never trust!

In order to get free items, all a person has to do is get an item and the tracking number not show as delivered in the system. Recently, I sold three dolls to three separate people using USPS, all vanished along the shipping route. One person admitted that they got the doll, and didn't pay for it. I sent the screenshot to Mecari, but they don't care. TOTAL RIP OFF.

It's the worst app ever if they not improve the app. They suspended my account and told me that i have more than one account but I have just one account and sell for more than 400$. How the hell i need to create another account? They suspended my account for some dump stupid reason to hold my money. What a scam? Also when i contact them they just repeat the same thing and not tell me what's wrong with my account and not solve it. I have bad experience with this after it. I contact them for 2 times. First they repeat same thing second time they not answer my question. It pissed me off for holding my money

I'm a grandmother who sells my grandchilds clothing on mercari. I've had no problems til now. Out the blue I get a message saying I have multiple accounts and my privleges are being revoked. 'My account will be deleted after my transactions are complete. I demanded proof of these multiple accounts but got nothing. After numerous messages they then told me I made over 27 accounts! What the hell? I only ever had one account. I kinda freaks me out thinking someone may be using my info to make accounts but they will not provide proof. I'm getting deleted but they let others sell fake $#*! and dirty draws! Terrible customer service. I have a deposit PENDING and a transaction pending. I better get my money!

The item that I purchased was sent mistakenly sent to the billing address that was different from the shipping address. In spite of multiple email exchanges where I tried to explain that the mistake was on the seller's side and requesting to return the item, I was unable to get a single meaningful response from Mercari's customer service. They bluntly refused to consider the circumstances and accept the return. Never had I encountered such inexcusable disregard for the customers. Needless to say, I will never deal with them again. And I will strongly discourage other from making any purchases from them.
