Mercari is trash and have unethical practices. Their customer service sucks and both sellers and buyers are untrustworthy. You would get scammed and mercari doesn't help. They stick by their stupid policy and make wrong judegements on problems both on sellers and buyers. They side more with buyers and don't protect their sellers. Resulting to overall bad rating of mercari. They are stupid.
Everyone is writing bad reviews about sellersI sold and I promptly shipped an item to a buyer and got an email a few days later that the item had been approved for return. NO EXPLANATION! THEN they ask you if you want the item aback. Well hell YES I want it back. I dont know WHY it is it being returned. Im going back to eBay. Thumbs down.
I recently started selling on Mercari but after my latest experience I'm starting to have second thoughts. I received a 1 star review from a buyer because they claimed I'm selling an item for double the price. Obviously there are selling fees when selling on an online marketplace.
The buyer did not communicate with me so I wasn't aware they had an issue with the price otherwise I could've just canceled the transaction and it would've been settled. I shipped out the item the next day and they received the item in 2 days.
I did everything to make this a smooth transaction but I still received a 1 star review. Reached out to Mercari to have them look into it and remove since I feel it's an unfair review but Mercari does not have the option to and states it's based on buyer's experience. Mercari really needs to change the review system.
This is so blindsiding and I would've appreciated if buyers had the courtesy to just reach out if there's a problem.

They keep your money and if you want it direct deposited they charge you $2. Then they turn around and cancel request and charge another $2 with no explanation why it was canceled. Don't trust them! Go with Ebay or Etsy.

This is a fraudulent app It seemed fine at first but it turns out that I wasted a ton of time listing items and telling people about the app. After I made my first sale and had already referred a bunch of people, I got a notice that my account was suspended. I kept getting a default response in the app saying that I had multiple account which I didn't. Now I can't even transfer my earnings from the one top I sold without a $2 transfer fee and can't spend the balance because my account is suspended. Ridiculous. Now that this has happened I'm just seeing the other reviews with issues from both buyers and sellers and issues with accont money being withheld. Save yourself the trouble and AVOID THIS APP
This marketplace is a complete joke for one they say they protect the sellers by offering them a guarantee of merchandise or money but whenever something is shipped back there's no option for "i have received my merchandise back and am satisfied" they offer that option to the buyer but not to the seller this is ridiculous, I shipped out a pair of shoes to the buyer the buyer said they weren't up to their liking and sent them back, upon receiving the item I realized that not only did the buyer get a full refund but the box has different shoes than the one I send I figured well it's not hard to distinguish these from the original ones I sent out so i email the rep only to find that they apparently are blind or something and cannot tell the difference it's litteraly an entire different shoes and there reps the use are completely one sided and will not help you whatsoever. So be weary when using this marketplace they will rip you off and side with the buyer

I purchased the item. Received communication that the item was shipped. A few hours later received notification that the seller (Jewellsdesigns) cancelled my item. I returned to the site and noticed the seller (Jewellsdesigns) relisted the item for $106.
I messaged the seller AGAIN stating how she cancelled my order and increased the price. She stated it was "listed wrong"

According to mercari the seller has 3 days to ship items that are purchased. On day three my item still was not shipped out. I contacted mercari and made a complaint... a few hours later the seller CANCELLED MY PURCHASE AGAIN. Of course she relisted the item at $150.00.
Mercari stated they would refund my money but that does not change the fact that their sellers are allowed to bait and switch prices AFTER a purchase is made. Plus wasted my time.
I tried to purchase a Beautiful porcelain doll for my Daughter paid what was asked of me I paid then later the seller had the nerve to ask me for more money which that is wrong to begin with and even if seller made any mistakes they should fix that themselves. Later on I thought me and seller worked it out and not to mention all this headache was over just over $3 Damn dollars anyway I thought she sent the Doll then I keep getting excuses,, I am done I will warn people about the seller they call Dark Too Light please don't buy from her horrible seller.

My account was closed with out warning for selling fake cards they have no clue about what is authentic and what is not authentic. They don't give warnings and they won't listen to anything you have to say. I appealed this case after 6 months of being wrongfully accused for selling counterfeit cards. Then they let me back on mercari then 48 hours later they shut my account down for no reason again! They said your account was closed and will remain closed indefinitely. I've purchased the cards they claim to be counterfeit on eBay and they were authenticated by eBay during the time of purchase. They shut my account down when I had just shipped items that I sold and I had to pay usps fees to get the package's intercepted. Mercari and their rude staff has been nothing but a nightmare! Their 1.3 star rating speaks for its self! If you trust this company you will eventually get screwed I guarantee it! They said I created more then one account but I only started a account on google then decided to use apple all my bank info and everything else they ask for was on my apple account my google account didn't even have a profile picture just another false accusation from this so called market place! My wife and daughter decided to set up an online business and chose Merkari. All went well until we tried to transfer the money from the account to their bank account. First they said the account was not valid, and then they asked for information such as Social Security Number (Red Flag!). Next we changed the bank account and were told that the account had been "INDEFINITELY SUSPENDED"! For What? Trying to retrieve our funds? CAVEAT EMPTOR: BUYER (And SELLER) BEWARE! Then you try to find a way to contact them (email, via the app, via twitter, etc.) and Zilch! Nada! Nothing! Horrible people. If this helps even one person save their money, great!
They allow sellers to sell filthy clothing. Deny your request to return. Close your case to turn around and rate the seller 5 stars. Where in the world is it ok to sell dirty items and then reward the seller 5 stars? Customer service dismisses your issues and closes your case. DO NOT BUY FROM MERCARI! There are so many things wrong with this site I hardly know where to begin, but here goes. The first problem is poor customer service. You can only communicate via email. Sometimes you need to speak with a live person. Second issue is a three day window to decide if you wish to keep the item you purchased. If you don't give feedback within this timeframe the sale is complete and you have no recourse for a return. This site is difficult to navigate. If you're looking for something, not only is it hard to find they show you all these sold items. Who cares if it has been sold. If you make an offer and it's accepted you are immediately charged. You have no control of making the payment yourself. I made three purchases. The first seller never shipped. The second seller sold a phone that was locked into the wrong carrier. Truthfully, this was Apple's fault given the IMEI number showed Sprint/T-Mobile as the carrier when in actuality it turned out to be another carrier. It was their mistake. The seller essentially said all sales are final and that I can resell or gift it. After a big to do I returned the phone to her and got a refund. The third seller sent the wrong item. I have spoken. I will not shop here again.

If you don't get your mail everyday, you can easily miss the 3 day llimit to file for a return even if the item is very much not as described or a mess of rubble. For we older and condo livers who don't get dressed and go down to get the mail everyday you had better be counting the days accurately or you will end up up paying regardless of what you received. I even got stuck when Mercari emailed me a 3 day notice whwen I had only 2 days to file. I am taking this email to my bank to file a claim for a refund
I bought from them 2x Panasonic Lumix camera, in october 2018 and jan. 2019-Delivery was without problems-free shipping, and item without defect. Also phone call service to them was answered with courtesy and desire to help. I strongly recommend them to all who hesitate to deal with them
I just learned a $725 lesson. Sold to a shady buyer who damaged my Louis Vuitton and claimed it was damaged when she got it. LIES. Mercari does not ask you anything before they allow a return. There is no way to verify a buyer before the sale. You are NOT PROTECTED and there is no way to file a claim ANYWHERE. They absolutely do not care. I have been a FIVE-STAR member for 6 years. First of all, I have made some sells on mercari. All 5 star ratings. Then suddenly I received a message saying my account is closed due to I have multiple accounts. I only have one account, not sure how they come up with that, then they need to verify my identity again which I already did when I signed up the account. Whatever then I verified my identity, the next day I received a message saying I violated their policy sold non authentic items... omg... that's more frustrating, because everything I have sold are Authentic and buyers gave me 5 stars review. So they decided to close my account and hold my money for ridiculous nonsense reasons they made up! I mean, seriously? I have over $600 in my account and I have to wait 90 days to receive it. To whoever want to buy or sell on Mercari, BE CAREFUL! They will "steal" your money and give you some nonsense reasons, the call center no one can handle this problem, contacted the mercari on Facebook, no one can help either, you can only deal with people that through the App, Email them and wait a day to get back with you, it's BS! Save your time, money and energy sell or buy at somewhere else. I am not gonna let it go, I have talked to attorney general in my state, and we will go from there.

I bought an item on Mercari about a week ago and the seller shipped the wrong item entirely. The price difference was very significant so I reached out to the seller and told him the issue. He immediately responded and stated it was his fault and he would refund my money to start the process through Mercari. The problem was, because of confirming with him, I started the return one day outside of the 3 day return policy. I asked Mercari to make an exception that the seller admitted the mistake and was willing to refund my money. Well 10 customer service reps and one supervisor later, they still absolutely refuse to allow me to start a refund. I showed proof of the conversation with the seller and they still would not budge on their decision.
Well Mercari, that's fine. You've forever lost a customer that incorrectly thought Mercari was a good alternative to eBay and others. I will refuse to ever use this trash company again and I will tell everyone I know and plenty of others who I don't know how horrendous they are when it comes to their customers.
