Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
This is the worst auction site I have ever dealt with. You can no longer rate a seller or buyer after a day or 2 and when someone unfairly rates you and reports false information they will not let it be changed
Sellers beware of these thieves that call themselves Mercari!
I sold almost $200 item and shipped it using their FedEx label. The item got lost in transit and Mercari is refusing to cover me under their sellers shipping protection lying that my weight was incorrect. I even sent them the print screen from FedEx website with the weight that proves I put the correct number in the shipment. I've been selling on Mercari for years now with more than $300 5-star reviews but I'll be absolutely taking my sales somewhere else.
I'm new to Site Jabber and it appears to me that folks mainly use this site to complain about negative interactions rather than to rate a website.
I can understand this, because if you have a negative experience, you need a place to post, so others and the company are aware. It's just a shame that there are not a broader breath of experiences/opinions.
As a former Poshmark reseller, I highly recommend Mercari. It is in every way a more professionally run business. About a year ago, I moved all of my Poshmark inventory to Mercari. It has been a far superior selling experience. I keep more of my earnings, don't provide their platform my free labor by constantly sharing, and I'm no longer exposed to terrible, vulgar and inappropriate listings.
It's easy to sell on and I've not had any negative experiences.
A.V.O.I.D. In a word -- Mercari "sucks". All of their policies are geared toward protecting sellers and buyers just have to live with it. In the three weeks I've been using the platform, I've had two sellers cancel the item after I've already paid, and one seller block me because I made an offer for $11 less than his asking price -- even though the listing had a "make offer" button. I called Mercari and their response was "thanks for the feedback". There are better ways out there to find what you need.
First, I've Made almost $3,000 in two months - so that's the good part. The bad? Customer service is almost non existent! I had a package that was lost in the mail and they took my money away even though it was clearly mailed and lost. I emailed 12 times and got the same response each time. It's yet to be resolved. The next bad thing is getting low ball offers! I have brand new, original packaging items that I list for a very fair price... at least 50% off. I got a $10 offer for a $65 item. If Mercari would actually attempt to have decent customer service I would stay, but I'm not going to use an app that doesn't have my back! Last thing - I purchased an item in early June, still hasn't shipped and it's August. I've reached out to the seller with no response and Mercari responds to my emails with this: we've resolved your dispute. They haven't. It's ridiculous
Site mostly has the kind of junk you find at yard sales.
They protect their sellers and make it impossible to contact them. But do very little to protect buyers. Once they have your money they're done.
There are many other reputable sites. Use one of them, this one is not.
Tip for consumers:
Go to ebay or Amazon
I see so many fakes and have received damaged items. Anytime I contact customer support they take forever and give the same automatic answers. They refuse to speak by phone. Will never buy or sell again
I am new to shopping with Mercari. I purchased a pair of fringe boots from one of their sellers this week and unfortunately I forgot to ask if the boots had a zipper. When they arrived they were slide-ins and my chubby foot and leg couldn't squeeze them on. I attempted a return and was denied. So buyers beware unfortunately sometimes when you are online shopping you choose your correct size but that doesn't necessarily mean it's always going to fit correctly and if that happens with this company you will not get your money back so you are better off going with Amazon or another company that makes returns much easier and values their customers. Online shopping should never be complicated.
Tip for consumers:
Ask a ton of questions prior to purchase. I personally prefer to shop with companies that make online shopping easy for consumer so take my experience and save your money and go with another company who makes returns easy.

I recently purchased something from a seller, and it arrived missing one of the pieces. I contacted the seller and let her know and she apologized and said she'd send a spare part in the mail. Well, she never did. And the transaction apparently already closed out.
So when I contacted Mercari support regarding the issue they offered zero help. I explained I was giving the seller a chance to make it right before blasting them with a negative review. And they basically told me to kick rocks. Wow cool. So now I can't have a refund for an item that was falsely advertised as having all pieces, and I can't even contact the seller anymore or write negative feedback for them?
If they are not going to have proper protocols in place to truly protect buyers, I won't be shopping here again.
Buyer bought 100 dollars sealed collectible item from me opened up everything didn't like wanted to return lying it doesn't match description when everything is written and in pictures. Mercari refunded buyer without my agreement then buyer never returned it to me! Contacted Mercari saying nothing they can do then closed the case! Most horrible place online for business especially for sellers!
Tip for consumers:
Don’t bother
Well ebay is not perfect but better than Mercari. Site is full of well I'll be good. Full of "goody good princesses " who take there time shipping. They think they can get a shipping label printed and that counts as shipping. I don't consider it shipped until the package carrier has item in possession. At least ebay sellers are mostly serious sellers. So far mercari is my worse second hand online shopping site.
Im a first time customer and bought a pair of shoes. The listing said 7 but the shoes were too wide and too big. When i contacted mercari, they ignored me. So did the seller. Plus they kept closing my help requests, and refused to let me return for refund. Bad customer service.
Tip for consumers:
Not a good dependable reliable site to do first time business with.

Mercari doesn't do jack about scam seller accounts. It doesn't matter how many reports these accounts' listings get, these profiles get to stay up and keep scamming people and Mercari doesn't care. Scammers can block user's warning comments immediately but Mercari never reviews reports on these accounts. DON'T trust buying from a company that supports scammers like this.
The seller sent me an empty box. Mercari then published their own five star rating of the seller. Released my money to him. Offered me a credit and sent the scammer an email telling him to make sure he puts the item in the box next time. This is the second time in a row i have been scammed from this site. For my part. I ordered from a person with zero history and an obvious fake name. I did not do my due diligence in investigating. But why should I have to investigate on what is supposedly a legitimate site that has a great big page set up for Buyer Protection. So it looks like I am out 400 bucks. But at least au get some credits for merchandise I can order and never receive.
Items I received did not match condition in listing. Seller agreed to accept a refund and said mercari would send a shipping label. A day later I contacted mercari because I had no correspondence from them. They denied the return and said it didn't meet their policy requirements. They closed the case. Buyer protection is a joke. Good luck if you buy on mercari. Don't expect any help.
Bought my pink Alexander McQueen pumps and tiny thin red belt to match. Both seem to lose color upon wiping. Called customer service and they said it's because of natural dyes used. Can't wear it. Belt leaves mark on my clothes!

This has been the most frustrating experience of my life and it's only over a $14 item. I'm fighting it out of principle! I ordered some cologne for my husband, and what arrived was a total joke. It was the size of my fingernail. So it took me over an hour to figure out how they wanted the JPEG pictures posted up, when I successfully did that they tried to give me a credit on the site when I want a refund to my credit card as I will never buy anything from this site again There's absolutely nobody you can talk to, this whole site is a joke! I stopped it with my credit card, and now mercari is giving me grief! Tried to contact somebody and it's impossible and unrealistic Do not deal with this platform!
Tip for consumers:
One of the most frustrating experiences I have ever encountered. I tried to use their contact us button and it kept saying it could not post repeatedly for two days.

I bought some coins on this site. And later found out they were counterfeit.
And Mercari said they can't do anything about it, because it was more then 3 days from purchase and didn't seem to care about it
Never buying on this site again. Now I know why E-Bay is number one
I buy and sell constantly. I have never received less than 5 Stars but every once in awhile you come across Nasty Sellers like Buttonmania. It's a shame because most people on Mercari are great and there to make a few dollars and keep people happy.
I bought something on Mercari that was not at all the size that was represented. They denied my return request, one minute after they fraudulently set the item to a status of "rated", so that it was impossible for me to write a review. So yeah, only the positive reviews are allowed on the site. When they screw you, they don't let you tell anyone about it.
Tip for consumers:
They will rob you. Be forewarned.
They do not remove unwarranted feedback. A buyer completely lied about me in the feedback. He made up some pretty wild allegations which can all be refuted by looking at the photos in the listing. But, Mercari has "policies." They can stand behind their policies and I can talk with my wallet and don't shop on Mercari or sell anything else.
This site insulates themselves from any type of conventional and responsible interaction with buyers particularly if something goes wrong. If you are someone who uses this type of transaction method only occasionally and don't understand the world you are getting into, it could be disastrous. My issue involves less than $50 under what I believe the buyer protection plan is meant to cover but I have absolutely no way to even contact them about the concern. If this is the way of the world from here on out, help us all.
Purchased item was dead on arrival. Mercari gives only, exactly 72 hours after delivery for buyer to request return. I was out of town and didn't get to check out item until hour 71. Mercari app failed with error. I sent email to Mercari support in time, but they didn't process the email until after hour 72. They refuse to refund or help in any way.

Here are my thoughts on Mercari. I lose money every single time. The buyers are looking for deep pocket savings well below thrift store prices for quality items. Mercari recommends the seller pay shipping but after that and their fees and transferring money to your bank account you end up making close to nothing.
I posted some items for sale. A pair of earrings was bought and the seller requested a return which was actually approved (whatever) but mercari put the wrong address on the return label and will not take responsibility for my lost item! They refunded the buyer but won't credit me for their mistake. They have 0 customer service support. You cannot call anyone on the phone, I was blocked from the app chat and their emails are almost insulting because they literally are not READING what I write ans just keep repeating the same bs over and over. Use poshmark instead!
Tip for consumers:
DON'T USE THIS SITE
This is Mercari: The Selling App. The fast and easy way to sell or buy almost anything.
