Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I recently purchased 4 baseball cards that were listed as vintage by the seller Topps 1963 Mickey Mantle, 1969 Nolan Ryan, 1970 Bench, & 1968 Rod Carew at a good price. They were purchased with the intention of reselling individually. I made a quick turn around sale of the '63 Mantle. It was sent for authenticition and it did not pass. Therefore this card is a reproduction novelty knock off card. As are the other 3 cards. Mercari allows counterfeit items be listed and sold. This has embarrassed me, ruined my reputation and good standing with another selling platform that I sell from. Stay away from and there are better sites in which one and purchase from.

Upon purchasing an item this year, you are forced to accept all cookies to continue. If you read about these, there is an extensive list of those they share your information with.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to recieve any type of customer support unless the question is already listed. They also only offer "Live Chat" in regard to technical support but you have to pay for it. I Finally found a customer service number by calling the wrong company. But, oh joy, they don't have customer support in this area (Houston - 4th largest city in the US).
Just ridiculous!

I purchased an item in very good condition, the label had no marks on it. When games arrived, not damaged in shipping, the label has dented lines all over the front label. I contacted Mercari & they said it does meet their criteria for a return item. Do not trust this website. Contacted paypal to get refund. 1st photo show game displayed in listing, front & rear label, the item I paid for. The 2nd,3rd, 4th & 5th picture is what I received. Marks all over the front label. Mercari said it doesn't meet their criteria for a return & refused refund. I disagree, the pictures of the item I paid for & received its not in very good condition. DO NOT TRUST MERCARI
NEVER BUY OR Sell on Mercari. They support people scamming on their website! If you get a counterfeit card like I did they will not refund you. It was only a $13 card but i buy thousands worth of cards sometimes one card is a thousand plus. Clearly if it was a $1000 card they still would stand by the scammer. This makes them just as guilty if not worse! They give you automated responses. They do not care about their customers experiences. They are the definition of greed. Their excuse is I left feedback. Well I didn't notice it was fake until my buddy pointed it out a few days after. And if you know Mercari they rush you and pressure you to leave feedback fast! Don't support their illegal practices! I hope they go out of business!
First order made with Mercari on 3/2 expected delivery was 3/15. As of 3/7, no updates on shipping status. Received email from Mercari stating they would remind seller to ship item and by 3/10 I would be able to cancel if no response from seller. On 3/10, no option available to cancel and no updates. It is now 3/22, unable to get a ahold of anyone at Mercari and still no order received. I checked to see if new tracking update was available and turns out package was delivered 6 hours away from my location. Mercari states not to rate when shipping issues arise but I have purchased from Amazon and Ebay using same carrier and I have received my orders on time. So clearly its Mercari's shipping system to blame. I dont need the item I ordered from Mercari anymore as it was a birthday gift and had to buy somewhere else. Now, I dont know if I will get my money back, or my order shipped back to me because Mercari customer service is non existent.

Terrible customer service! Lots of Fake/scammers selling non existent items! Bought a item form a seller that never had the item… tried to get a refund. Even sent it back. But scammer provided a wrong address… so now the return item is being sent back to me again. Complaint many times to customer service and still not resolved… almost 2 weeks now… and was notified they will "REVIEW " the situation again! AVOID AND DO NOT USE!

I ordered lipstick and photos of a new lipstick were shown on the site. There was one poorly focused one the lipstick sent to me. It came to me have used with lip marks and because of the obvious health hazard I discarded it. The seller was given 5 stars by them even though this happened. They and the seller were not responsive. Do NOT believe the star ratings.
After ordering 3 items from this website, my account was revoked due to suspicious activity. In a way I'm very happy, once I receive my items and rate the seller. I'm gonna cancel my cards and get a new one. Thanks Mercari you did a big favor.
They closed my account and stole my money so quick it was crazy. They basically sent me a notice to my wrong email and said I had 24 hours to claim my money when I tried it gave me a bunch of bs. The account was hooked right up to my bank why didn't they just let me transfer it out. Yeah needless to say I'm pissed and will never use them again
I ordered a pair of jeans that were supposed to ship in 3 days. I did not receive them for weeks. When they arrived, they did not fit. In order to start a return I had to send four pictures of them, then a long wait to hear back from customer service. I probably sent 10 or more emails to try to get the situation resolved. In the end, they would not let me return them (never worn) even if I paid shipping and re-stocking fee.
Mercari has terrible customer service, avoid buying and selling on Mercari. Bought an oled switch in the listing mentioned that there is a broken screen, but not mentioned of non working power button or volume buttons. Asked Mercari to help with return, Mercari refuse since seller is a power seller with over 4000 sales. Avoid buying and selling on Mercari, go somewhere else like ebay instead.
A buyer can lie on you and mercari will side with them. I sold a sling bag that was described as a sling bag the person bought the sling bag but gave me a 3 star bc they wanted a backpack even though they never contacted me about that. When I confronted mercari they said I was innocent but bc of their new policy the buyers experience can't be deleted even though lies and illiteracy aren't experiences. They are a dense, unreasonable company. Go elsewhere to sell things.
I can't trust Mercari one day I sold $400 worth of products within 10 hours and they closed my account to do high activity and said to complete my current pending transactions and request a direct deposit.
Note* if your entire to purchase market place again we will hold all direct deposits and cancel all transactions.
Use at your own risk. There's far too many complaints of rip offs from sellers and even Mercari. They're out of Japan so most people have very little recourse options. Read the reviews. They stay in business because they're banning people and keeping the money they have in their accounts.
Mercari rips you off on shipping. I weigh everything with two different scales, yet I will get notices that they are deducting more from my profit to pay "extra" shipping, yet I have never once gotten a credit for overpaying on shipping which I know I have. Their customer service sucks at understanding problems and they always strive to NOT resolve issues for a seller, the ones that they are making money off of. I would avoid selling here, I'm looking for more seller friendly platforms to sell on.
I received broken item. Immediately contacted Mercari to note problem. Response email said don't rate seller until Mercari customer service responds. Then Mercari paid seller "because You didn't rate seller." When I complained, they said there was nothing they could do to resolve problem. I'm out $40
Bought two pampered chef products from different sellers. One item was received without damage. The second item was received was broken to the point that it was unusable. I believe this was because the item wasn't properly packaged. When attempting to contact Mercari there was no easy means by which to contact them for a refund or next steps. I tried several different ways and was unsuccessful. I will never ever buy anything from this site in the future.

Mercari limited my account first claiming that they need identification, I tried to do that and they kept telling me that I am not responding to their emails which is not true.
They then asked me to send a picture of my driver license or photo of my passport information.
That was the most scary thing to do, I refused to do that, they closed my account permanently because of that.
I don't know any other website that will ask you such personal information so you can buy used and new items from random people.
Please be careful and watch out.
Buyer beware! I purchased designer items 3 times, description included the fact that item was 100% authentic and included the original designer box and authenticity card. Once I received it was evident that it was a scam. Same seller uses different profiles to make you believe you are buying from another seller. Mercari did the right thing and reimbursed me all 3 times but I will never buy from them again. Not worth the aggravation and deception.

I listed a Coach wallet my mom gifted me from the Coach outlet. I was trying to get a whole $15 for it. I still had the tag and two little care packets that come with it. They flagged it as "non-authentic" bc I didn't have her receipt for the originally $30 wallet. It was also the only "designer" item on my account. They removed my listing, accused me of selling a counterfeit item, and wasted my time over $15. I've now deleted my account and app.

Mercari always wants sellers to drop off the prices and offer free shipping as well. If you sell on mercari with first class mail and there is an issue on delivery, mercari support would tell you that they cancelled the transaction and you seller have to contact usps to get the package back or open a claim...
I recently joined Mercari, made a purchase, it was a vintage radio, it was packed poorly and arrived in pieces. I rated the seller poorly and tried to get a refund through Mercari's "help" department, they told me that since I had already rated the seller that they would not be willing to assist me... this site is a scam... how would ANY seller have anything other than a good rating if they are unwilling to help... I am out over $100.00! Buyers beware!
Ordered several items with good results but then my luck turned. I ordered what was suppose to be a new mens adjustable hat but when I got it was marked youth xl. Of course, the tag was not visible in the pictures.
The seller only marked item as shipped & never entered a tracking number so I guess the company's policy is to offer CREDIT ONLY. Glad it was a small purchase.
Next buyer marked item as shipping but I never received them. Didn't answered emails. Mercari did refund my credit & the extra $ though.
Finally, I found a buyer to actually ship an item which I received ok.
Also, it seems like you can only leave feedback if you accept the item which makes little sense to me.
I recently found out that I was duped by a seller and because it was out of the 15 day window, Mercari refused to help. The seller tricked the authentication process by showing a photo of a different pair of Gucci glasses that had the Gucci name and made in Italy. I had no reason to check when I received the item because it was backed by their authentication process. I tried selling the "Gucci" sunglasses and found that they are indeed fakes. I contacted Mercari and they refused to help. I had a similar incident on Poshmark and they told me to destroy the item and issued me a credit. Mercari's most recent response was that they would take this as Feedback. I am out $250 and I plan to remove my own listings and I won't shop there again as they cannot be trusted.
I have included photos of the fake picture the seller showed the authentication team at Mercari along with the actual glasses.
Purchased vinyl Godzilla figure from seller. Description said, 'from smoke-free home'. It arrived smelling of cigarettes. Asked to return and seller refused. Contacted Mercari: they asked to see photos. Mercari replied they could not detect anything from the photos so my request was denied. It was insulting. Seller was rude replied to every message 'have a great day'. Mercari automatically rated the seller positive. Seller and Mercari were insulting. Waste of time and money.

If they would have posted something like "if there is a dispute about odors with a purchase the buyer is on their own". I had one comicbook refunded because the seller sold it with the back cover missing. They could see that in the photos. But cigarette smell from a seller who says the item is from a smoke-free home? If they had offered to physically see the item they would have helped. Also the seller being an insulting jerk just added insult to injury. I canceled my account with Mercari.
