Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
So, if you read my original review of this company, I must inform you that they have been under different management, with different Team members and are now a completely different company, than they originally were! I bought and sold with Mercari for about a year or so, around 2013. At that time, it was an awful experience. I no longer need to go into detail about it, as it is no longer an issue. It is now a very pleasant company to work with! Everyone is professional, kind and helpful. There is a lot of "traffic" on this site, so overall I highly recommend it for buying and selling new or used items!

Ordered and paid for 10 different Apple Watches over the past month 8 of which I received a toy mouse other 2 simply did not send I only keep on ordering with the hopes of finding one honest seller. All 10 I have received a refund from mercari at least that is good but site is mostly scam sellers

I recently started selling wigs in Mercari the buyers were getting m ruining the wigs and getting their reruns approved. I received the wigs with big holes at the top bundle of 2 wigs sent with only 1 items sent in bundles missing wigs cut tracks torn off and 1 employee in particular would deny my appeals when their was clear evidence I took before pics after pics submitted everything on all cases as I should have even showed proof how half the reruns shouldn't of been approved in the 1st place and she denied everything

Run like hell don’t use this site buyers will get your new nice things ruin it probably let their toddler poo on it and be able to send it back and get a full refund sellers are not protected !

I purchased a tv from a woman in NY. It arrived in good packaging but when I turned it on the picture had blue red and green lines in the picture. The seller was very understanding and apologetic. She agreed to take it back Obviously it was dmambed in shipping. Mercari reviewed the situation for 7 days! And determined it didn't meet those criteria for a return or refund. Now I have a tv that doesn't work. Dont recommend using them.
I found this site through a friend and I love it! I've been reading the reviews and there are so many negative ones, but this has not been my experience with Mercari. I like the simplicity and design of its website. Mercari is easy to use. I like the variety of shipping options and the low seller fees. I recently had to make contact and customer service responded within the same day. I'm happy with Mercari!

I take time to read the seller's feedback from their sellers. Is their product what it claims to be? Do they ship in a timely manner? Are customers general pleased with their purchase? This weighs on my decision whether I choose to make a purchase or not.
Mercari took money from my Paypal account in error. No purchase or transaction was made the date of this debit. The money was returned the following day BUT They never notified me. I saw another transaction I didn't recognize and I panicked and opened a dispute. Mercari immediately suspended my account. I had over 50 five star reviews, had been using the app for a year. I cannot get my $50 balance in my Mercari account unless I give them my birthdate and social security number.? Like I can trust a company that dipped into my PayPal account without authorization and then failed to notify me, suspended me and is holding my money hostage until I divulge all my personal information needed for identity theft. If this sounds like a good time to you then by all means use Mercari!

I purchased some Febreze refills on one, and I received them they were bootleg. They did not fit in any for breeze holders that I could find. When I reached out to my car we about it they did not get back to me until after the time when I could send these back. I'm not buying anything from Mercari because they will help you get cheated.

Customer service is a huge negative! Item sold and shipped in good faith. While in the shipping route the buyer asked for a cancellation. Mercari cancelled it and refunded. Mercari gave me every lying excuse possible to not compensate from the package was the wrong weight to 100 other lame excuses. Buyer got a few item and seller lost out.
I purchased a "Citizens" watch. When I received it had a damaged metal band and it was a knockoff sold by the seller "varieties". I requested a refund and complied with submitting the photos required. Two days later my request was denied and I was not allowed to "rate the seller". This is why everyone has a 5-star rating. You will never be able to talk with a human. I am stuck with a Chinatown fake watch. Disappointed with Mercari on this issue.

Look at how many sales the person has, if they have very few items and you look at the other items if it looks junky you are getting ready to buy junk. if they have a couple of pictures of the item, it is for a reason!!!

The two step verification of taking around $4.00 from you everytime you wish to purchase immediately leads to a decline of any and all cards. The site is very buggy, and even will sign you up with a account before immediately saying you have no account. Oh, and they keep any credit or debit card information you put in with no option to remove that information. It's a scam site. You're better off using Facebook Marketplace or using cash in person.
I sold a Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and a VS PINK Lanyard and they shut my account down saying that i am not authorized to sell these products. There are so many people selling the same products and they are still active, I actually got the idea to sell these products from the Mercari App.
The kicker of it all is that they are holding my $205.00 for three months that I did not earn from selling these two items. The total from selling the mascara and the lanyard was $26.00 They said they needed to hold my funds in case someone complained about the items I sold them. This is complete bull$#*!! I called there customer service number an to this day (2 months later) NO one has called me back!
Very poor customer service, you have people selling the same items! If its ok for one it should be ok for all.
I had 61 excellent reviews and never had a bad review and this is the way I get treated.
If your spouse/someone in the same home also has an account with these guys. They will ask for multiple pictures of your license. Your credit card. Your social security numbers. Pictures of the front. The back. The barcode... HORRIBLE! This will lead to identity theft quick..

Mercari incorrectly packaged an item, which arrived broken. ThenMercari's two-day response policy is arbitrary and only designed to not be responsive to. Customer needs, since they failed to respond to my return request [broken/damaged item] within two days of my reporting the issue, yet they demand My response to them within 2 days. I recommend that people NOT buy through Mercari, since their c/s return policy is a scam.

My 1st couple buys were great. Then it all went bad. I had to wait a. Onth to receive a purchase. Mercari was no help, at all. They denied my return. After waiting a whole month. And the seller was evasive. Seller actually ordered the item FROM CHINA, then had it shipped to me. Thus the month long wait. And to make matters worse, I can't even rate or comment on the seller. Tried to purchase several items and pay with PayPal - was always unable to complete the transaction once PayPal sent me back to their site. There is no Chat or Phone support so all you can do for help is email. They do answer emails, however when you write a reply to their email, all you get in return is blank emails. Tried two days in a row. I'm done with Mercari.
I purchased a jacket from a seller and she charged me shipping. When the jacket arrived I had to pay $5 postage. This was after the seller's recommendation that I track the package down at a post office instead of it being delivered to me as requested. Then the seller "rates" me saying I got upset over really nothing. I filed a complaint with Mercari only to be told I could receive a "Mercari credit" instead of a refund.
I have been selling on mercari for a year now I have over 200 reviews and have a 5 star rating sold a jacket to a new buyer fully describing and close up picture of flaws on jacket received mail saying was returning item because it "was damaged" I wrote asking for a description of the damage received their generic email saying they would get back to me I was told that the issue has been resolved and they are returning the money to the buyer. Problem solved! The person probably tried it did not like it damaged it and merc just takes their side I think this is grossly unfair no protection I am switching to posh mark you pay more but are valued more than this site I was so mad but I guess with the reviews on here I am not alone. Stay away

Had 448 GREAT, 5 GOOD, and 2 POOR since starting in April. Feedback speaks for itself. Unfortunate part is mercari allows fraud buyers to just claim anything is fake to get a free item, while Mercari blames you even when the item is 100% genuine with receipts and detailed photos.
Well today Mercari terminated my account due to fraud buyers filing false authentic claims, they cancelled 36 in progress transactions and fully refunded the buyers, even with the buyer already having the item, or is in transit. Total revenue value of these 36 items is well over $1000, not to mention the $300 mercari is holding from by balance. So as of now I'm out $1300 for now thanks to fraud buyers and the chimpanzee support group at Mercari.
This company deserves to rot in the deepest level of hell. I recommend NO one use them.

Mercari does not hold up to their shipping protection. If you do sell on Mercari in suggest not using their label because the $200 you get in protection is something they consistently do NOT HONOR! They show you no proof of not packing your item well. I packed my package like Fort Knox and was still denied. And they don't allow you to send them pictures etc to prove you packed it well. Straight scammers!

They locked my account without reason, and attempts to communicate with customer service all come down to being linked to irrelevant help pages or given a form letter which clearly doesn't match my problem. Then, when I ask specific questions about the content of that form letter, they respond, literally, with a copy-paste of the exact same form letter!

I saw a Xbox One for $200, added it to the cart. When I clicked add to cart, a message appeared stating that the seller has a high cancellation rate. I decided to go through the checkout process, and when I was about to click the final payment submission, the price had gone up to $300. Luckily I noticed and did not complete the transaction. This seller obviously lists for low prices, and then either changes the price after you add it, or cancels the sale if she doesn't catch it in time. Sellers like this should be banned.

You revoked my account for no reason and you should return my money for those small charges. Please work on your customer service to have at least 2 stars if you still want to continue this business. You treated your customer like if they are thief! Will not recommend to anyone to shop here. Terrible shopping experience.

I ordered an item and I never received it. Apparently it was sent to another person. Seems like the seller switched labels. When I contacted them they said it had been 3 days since delivery so all sales are final. And I was not allowed to contact the seller after the 3 days. The problem, I didn't receive the item so I didn't know the three days even started. Absolutely no refund or compensation for me. I'm just out $20. I will NEVER shop at Mercari again.

Tried buying a set of boots for a friend because Mercari screwed up her account. I used the paypal button, bought the item, and got a confirmation. 30 mins later they cancelled the order and refunded my money. Said I needed to verify my identity with their lousy app! I told them to got take a hike.
