Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I am not a fan of optimized searches, meaning websites that take what you type into the search bar and then change the search based on what it THINKS you mean, but Mercari adds a whole level of annoying with their 'STATUS' feature search filter. Imagine searching for that specific part you need to your vintage blender or whatever only to find ten of them! Perfect! Perfect price and everything... oh wait... SOLD is written on top of the listing. There is no way to OPT OUT of this terrible search feature and I leave frustrated every single time I find myself at Mercari. However, positives include that you can charge your own shipping prices, which for some small pair of earrings, $9 at poshmark is like ridiculous amount so its better to buy the item at Mercari.
I received an item that I purchased. I immediately plugged it in and found it was defective and the door would not stay open for me to use it.
Within 30 minutes of delivery I requested a return. Immediately I got a message from the seller telling me how many lawyers they had and how I was a fraud for opening a return claim.
Incredibly inappropriate. I was very nice through the process. Showed videos of the issue. In having it for only 30 minutes and submitting the return apparently I must of somehow removed screws and lost them?
Very ridiculous and over the top.
The customer service did nothing about the behavior.
It was very abuse as though to prevent the return.
From a seller on Mercari I bought an xfinity modem for my comcast account. When I connected it to my account, Comcast told me that they were going to charge me a monthly fee as a rental since they never sell their modems.
While Mercari did offer to refund me if I sent the stolen modem back, that would no longer be possible since I would then be on the hook with comcast forever.

I thought I liked mercari because of the low cost items which appear as deals. I opened a dispute because someone sent me a top in"good" condition. I showed pictures of the piling thought out and they sided with her. All I wanted was half my money back because it was in fair-poor condition. I feel that when there is a issue, too bad.

All you need to know about this company is that they skew the reviews are their site to give them a higher number than actual. We had a seller claim that their shipment was delivered to us on a certain date, which was not true. After three more days we filed a complaint with Mercari and also filed a dispute with our credit card company. Three days later we got an email from Mercari saying that they considered the shipment delivered and closed that case, therefore keeping us from being able to do a review on the seller from their site. They also suspended our account because we disputed the payment with the bank, and then proceeded to close the account when the shipment finally arrived 5 days after the seller said.
My son sold something on here, then when I took over for him to arrange a payment I discovered that I cant get paid until I send the item, and get a review... hmm if only we could walk into a high street store, take what we want, then decide if I want to pay later and say that store was bad, keep the items then ask for a refund without returning the items.
Thanks but I will stick to ebay, fee or not, at least I will get something back as a seller.
I had 2 pairs of socks that mercari approved a return on, received the package today, with packaging the socks were in, but no socks. So I'm out my money with no merchandise. Also shipped a purse and it was received by buyer on march 5th, have never received the funds for this transaction either. Have E-mailed Mercari and messaged on FB with no response. I want my MONEY!

I sold a item on mercari. The item has insurance through the mercari site for sales. The item was lost in the mail, So I called customer support now there's no answer. So only choices I had left was to email them. The customer service there is very rude and wasn't any help at all they Closed my ticket and told me not to respond back to there email. I won't be using there service anymore due to this. I guess im just lost out on my item and my money. Think twice before shopping or selling there if something happens your just out of luck. Mercari your customer service sucks!

Mercari is lousy when it comes to returns. I bought a basketball jersey from a seller named Ashley******* that was posted as a mens XL. When I got it it was a kids jersey so I went through the proper steps to return it. Both the the seller and the site refused my request and left me paying an inflated price for something that is worthless to me. They claimed it was their policy to not accept returns for this fraud. So in my eyes Mercari is a platform that allows theft by deception. If you use this site please be careful because because they are buyer friendly and only protect their commission.

I listed and sold a video game, took image which also takes pictures. The game was listed in good condition. I shipped to buyer ModelCitizen and he left a rating of 1 stating it had a few scratches, this is why it was listed as good which contains flaws, Mercari refused to remove or alter it. Basically a poor app as buyers can lie in feedback and really hurt your rating and nothing you can do about it
I had an account and then one day without any notice they closed my account and kept my cash balance! I seen someone was interested in one of my items I went to check it out I was gone! I contacted their customer service they said they could not find me I gave them everything to look me up and I said find close my account just give me my money! That was it I never got my money and the best they took their cut off those sales now they took it all shame on you Mercari a bad way to do business!
I purchased a train set from Mercari. It arrived early in January. I opened it several days later to make sure it worked before putting it away with the Christmas decor. To my dismay, it's TERRIBLY engineered. I tried repeatedly but couldn't ever make even one completion of the track before it derailed! In other words: completely useless! I contacted Mercari and was told that their "return policy" is 3 days. THREE DAYS. I had to get in touch with them three days after receiving the item. Seriously? I appealed several times and was repeatedly told "tough luck!" Why oh why didn't I stick with Amazon like I usually do? Unbelievable. I intend to give Mercari a bad review everywhere I can find to do so!

On two separate transactions Mercari refused their shipping guarantee after packages were damaged by carriers. They give their canned response that the item was insufficiently packed which was not true. What good is their guarantee if it is never used. Beware-do not trust their guarantees.

Good products and pricing only complaint - and it's a biggie, is that if there is something wrong with what you purchased (wrong thing sent, items arrives damaged) it's impossible to get it straightened out.
Mercari was very quick to refund me but the seller never sent the item and when I question them they said the item was return. It took close to 3 weeks where I just got feed up and asked for a refund which I received within 24 hours. Buyers be aware

I started selling, but the offers are low-ball on high end shoes. I see a lot nice things for sale on this web site. Buyer failed to ship my item because she was too busy and did not have time, why sell if you do not have time to ship? Stop making low-ball offers on high end shoes because seller do not have money or want something for nothing then they leave you a negative comment.
Bought a Gucci belt for $220 that was not authentic. I tried reaching out to mecari and they responded days later after paying the seller. Never again. I even sent photos of the belt plus photos where the seller used someone else's exact photos. That was my last time using macari!
Seller never shipped and tracking was never updated. They didn't resolve the issue but kept telling the seller to ship. Finally I escalated with PayPal and Mercari restricted my account. What an awful experience

We had our credit card hacked on Mercari account, three items not purchased by us, and then the next thing we know we are deleted from their site and not allowed to purchase anymore from them.… Indefinitely! We try to get a hold of someone and they will not answer. I believe someone within Mercari hacked our credit card and used it for themselves. It's their loss, we moved over to Offer Up, much better site!

You can never get anyone on the phone and if you're lucky when you contact support by email you might get a response within 72 hours. This is the most terrible experience I've ever had selling on any online marketplace and I've been doing this for 20 years!

I was a seller that got ripped off by a buyer who received their item but they didn't. Mercari let them keep the item and then refunded the customer from my bank account! Tracking shows the customer picked the item up at the Post Office and signed for delivery!
I thought I might sell on Mercari but after u add the ridiculous rate for shipping, you're either going to lose $ 11 for shipping your 1 pound item or lose a sell because no one in their right mind is going to pay these outrageous shipping charges!
I ordered a camera and received 1 disposable mask. That was a really expensive mask. I tried to get my money back through PayPal but because they sent the mask and had the tracking for it, PayPal rejected my claim. Scam site. Beware. There are so many scam sites like this so check all reviews on sites and the age of sites before ordering. I learned that the hard way.
The worst! I purchased from a Mercari vendor on 9/25/23, they immediately created the label and never shipped the product. I kept contacting the vendor and they continued to say they would ship the following day. I kept checking the tracking number, and as of 10/14/23, USPS still doesn't have the package...sounds like a scam. I finally cancelled the order. Hopefully, I get a refund and not a credit on account because I have no faith in vendors selling on this site.

My feedback is that Mercari is a company that does not care about customer satisfaction. I purchased one article from two that were being sold. The seller sent me the wrong one and Mercari basically ignored my claim by refusing to process the return that I requested even after I submitted sufficient evidence (pictures) to proof to you that was right and that the seller was acting in bad faith. Mercari is supposed to safeguard their customers business without being scammed.
I made a purchase but the product was not same as the seller has described. So I contacted the seller(not the company) and the person was extremely rude! So I contacted the company to request for a return. They asked me to send bunch of photos to prove that the product isn't as same as the seller has described and I did. But it was denied. What has happened to customer service? I'd give negative 5000 stars to this marketplace if I could! I'm 1000% done with this place!
