Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
They allowed someone to purchase $1400 worth of men's shoes from my acct, with a credit card if mine that I did not have on file and shipped to 2 diff states nowhere near me! I live in Ohio and they allowed transactions on a card not on file, but used, to ship shoes to CA and NY? And, most recently purchased shorts from a seller who would not respond or mail item yet they won't let me rate her…. Weeks after she didn't mail or respond? Stick with EBay and Poshmark!
I was given a very unfair rating and comment that was a straight out lie. I have over 100+ all 5 star reviews and now today a 2 star with nasty comment despite buyer acknowledging item was received in condition stated and in reasonable amount of time. I reached out to Mercari both in email and on twitter and they refuse to remove it, even though I gave a review of a seller one time for waiting 3 days to rate and that buyer got it removed by Mercari. They had the GALL to offer me a $10 off $50 purchase instead!
They don't play fair and obviously pick and choose what they want to do and side with the buyer and not the seller.
Tip for consumers:
Use app to sell at your own risk
Hi. I loved selling my unwanted funko pops on Mercari. For the past year I have been selling like crazy. I did sell a few high priced pops. I sold one that was worth 150. The buyer bought it and then changed his mind after having for two days. Mercari said they were reviewing it and it took two weeks to come back with a decision. After I sent 4 emails. Mercari did side with the buyer though and now the buyer has a week before they have to send it back... who knows what happens after this. I feel Mercari does not protect the sellers and fail to give you a reasonable way to get in touch with them when something goes down. I will never deal with mercari again and for sellers out there be careful..
Tip for consumers:
Beware Mercari doesn't protect sellers!
I ordered a ring that the listing I read clearly as it stated the jewelry I purchased was sterling silver, rhodium plated, no tarnish, yeah ok, my finger is green after maybe a week and they refuse to give a refund and the worst part is the seller blocked me and they knew I was ripped off and didn't care. The site is a joke and they need to learn how to handle disputes.

Lied about offering a return label promised... screwed me out of 75 bucks for a piece of mislabeled and unusable walker for my blind wife... really nice move... bunch of 'rectal cavities', if ever there were...

Order asset of coffee mug, paid for them and the seller never shipped them. Seller unresponsive. Contacted customer service 2x and both times told me to wait, they were no help. I had to contact my credit card company to get my money back.
It was my first time and my last with Mercari.
I ordered something for first time on this site. Never got confirmation email, never was sent. My master charge was charged and not only did I never get item regardless of me contacting them 10 times, I never got refunded. Scary place.
They provided wrong shipping options and weight and post office wouldn't deliver without extra shipping. Seller said they just choose what Mercari defaulted to. Mercari states in their help under "Why was I charged for overdue postage?" (apparently they have this happen so often they created a help section specifically for it) that they will credit you back with store credit and deduct from seller. They also told me this in a chat. However, once I paid the extra 5.63 in shipping, the credit they gave me was only good for 30 days. Had I known about the 30 day expiration, I would have refused delivery. At no point was I ever told about this expiration and it's not in their help section. When I brought this up to them, they said there's nothing they can do and marked the ticket as resolved.
I purchased 3 handbags. The first one arrived folded up in a poly mailer. One of the other two was a counterfeit Coach. When I made the purchases, I didn't realize you had to set up an account, rate, review, etc. I thought it was a straight-forward purchase. Because I didn't create an account, I can't 'rate' the sellers. Once I realized, I did create an account, but it won't link to my purchases. When I click on the email to rate the transaction, it simply states 'transaction cancelled.' However, funds were taken from my bank account. I can't find anyway of contacting service about the damaged purse and the counterfeit one. So, I guess I'm just out of luck? Terrible shopping experience.
I had several bad experiences on Mercari where I purchased an item and paid for it and waited weeks to hear back from the seller. I was able to cancel my items and received my money back after 10 days but was not able to leave any reviews for the buyers. I was told if I wanted to leave a review I would have to pay for the item and mark it as received. Other buyers should be made aware if sellers are not reputable. Mercari should allow people to warn others.

STAY AWAY!!
I sold my Dior b23 hoodie and it was delivered to the buyer this past Saturday afternoon. They buyer received the hoodie and before he or she could accept the order my account was closed. I never got paid for the item I sold. The buyer has it and it's not like I'm at the point where I could intercept any package. I sold this hoodie to pay for groceries and bills. I'm on the verge of being evicted which is why I was selling my designer pieces. These people stole from me. I've been fighting to get paid. Can't believe a company like this even exists.
I had an offer to get $14 off a $100 purchase for a luxury handbag. I purchased a consula purse. The offer was refused when contacting them. They gave me the run around for reasons that were not stated in the offer. Very shady business practices. I recommend to use eBay over mercardi. I have never had an issue using an offer with any other company ever. If you try to contact them, they try to close it without responding to you. It was messaging to me once every 4 days.
They do not have customer support. I received the wrong item, so I tried to inform mercari on the
App and when I finished entering all the information the "send" button didn't work. After attempting several times, this is when Infound out there is no customer support. I then receive a notification that the item has been delivered and the sale has been closed. PEOPLE we need to start a petition and have Mercari $#*! down, they should not be in business. Let me research and get a petition started.
I faced one problem on top of another & Mercari did not help to rectify any of them. Even when I could not log in under the log-in I created, they did not help. In the end the used VCR I purchased from them did NOT work at all. They are what I consider to be a scam retailer who plays by their own rules and cares nothing for a customer or any repeat business. They strike and collect their ill gotten gains and leave you to feel used and ripped off out of YOUR hard earned money.
I have been on Mercari for 5 years. 90% of the sales were delightful. It's the other 10% that may drive you mad. It's impossible to contact the company to my knowledge it's owner is in Japan. I sold a nice coat and after I shipped it, the buyer then unsubscribed from Mercari. Mercari cannot get the money from the crook, my coat is not worth the hassle of a drawn-out lawsuit. I may be looking for a company which is rated for better customer service.
I've been using Mercari for less than a month to sell stuff I have around the house, and I have nothing good to say about them. The most recent frustration was trying to list an unopened derma roller. It was deleted because it's "prohibited." I searched their site, and other sellers have derma rollers for sale. I tried reposting it with the same language as other posts, and it was immediately deleted. I got an email telling me to refrain from trying to list it again. So a real person was actively watching my posts and kicked it off. If they prohibited ALL derma rollers (why they would be prohibited is beyond me), then fine. I am angry at both at their inexplicable decision that this item is "prohibited" and their inconsistent enforcement of rules.
Tried to buy something. Required card verification. Did it on 2 cards. They posted micro transactions to both cards. And then denied payment from both cards. Paypal also denied. So basically they just charged me about $8.00 to validate payments, and then refused to let me buy something from the site. But have pocketed those charges and not credited them back. An absolutely nightmare of a site.
Tip for consumers:
zero customer service. website help questions useless for most common types of questions
Bought an item from a seller was MIB but was missing a piece. Contacted seller to see if we can't work something out. Seller said leave feedback and they would do a refund. I was only looking to get back shipping. Once done they did nothing and Mercado won't do anything about it.
Looking for wreath frames and deco mesh and this, Mercari comes up and the same stuff you get at dollar tree is on her for 4 to 5 times more.
I do not understand why people pull this but here we are. I make wreaths and must find at great low prices but if I have to pay 25 for 5 wreaths than I rather go to Michael's, Joanna or a craft store than to purchase from here.
And the deco mesh that we all know is dollar tree, isnt worth spending more than a dollar for.
This is what I am seeing and honestly it's sad that people scam others like this.
I get a bundle thinking on getting a quick and saving shipping fees buy, the sellers kept messaging me to rate them and it's annoying, And when I check on the item it's put 2 good item and somewhere inside is a bad item.
I want to rate this -1000 after you sold items, you are forced to use their credit to buy stuff, this Christmas was disgusting. Cannot get other methods of payments out of there when selling stuff,
I gone some other place to sell.
Tip for consumers:
Becareful of their messages, they want to rate you low or you rate them high and happy.

I've received all my items that I've bought and they didn't rip me off. Some items take slower to ship than others because of the shipping company or who you buy from. You just have to check the ratings of the seller and check to make sure there are no flaws or you might get ripped off
Purchased two items from completely different seller. Neither shipped the items nor responded to my emails. Mercari did refund 1 purchase (STILL waiting for money) but am still trying to get my money back from the other! The only reason I gave a 1 star is customer service responded quickly!
I posted my iPad and iPhone on Mercari two days ago, as this is the very first time I have ever heard of Mercari through a TV commercial. Two days later I received a email that my account is suspended and subsequently closed. The explanation was that I violated their policy. I have requested but not received which of their polices I violated, so I have no clue what I supposedly did that is the violation. Mercari stated I have been given several warning and failed to heed them, again., my account is only two (2) days old. The only time I access my account is to reply to members that inquire about my listing. I mean it's ok if I can no longer use their website, but it is so insulting to be accused of doing something wrong and not be allowed to defend yourself. If I violated Mercari policies it was unintentional and I am still unaware of what that violation is. This really sucks., I swear every words of this review is based on my two experience with Mercari
I've been using Mercari for a while. Bought some perfume. When it came it smelled like alcohol. Immoderately I requested to return for the seller for a refund. Mercari said no! Charged me and their reason? I can't prove it smells. I deleted the app and done with them forever.
I bought 2 products on mecari the very first time using it. A seller by the name of Reynaldo Gonzales is scamming people on this app, gave me the exact same excuse on why it was taking so long for him to send me a device that it was taking someone else with the same product. Horrible app. Then they cancelled the sale. I guess they could get what they wanted out of the sell or something. So I went elsewhere for the same exact products in better condition.
Tip for consumers:
Dont Trust it. Its a Scam.
