Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
Mercari sellers beware! Dishonest buyers are lurking on Mercari. Avoid selling items over $50 and pricey name brands. Buyers will low ball all the time and just "like" items.
Scam buyers know they can:
-open a return and send you a brick or junk back.
-say your item is not authentic (even though it is authentic) to get their item free.
-say your item is damaged to get a free item.
Just be careful if you are an honest seller on Mercari. I've been selling for almost a decade on multiple e-commerce sites and scam buyers have quadrupled in the last few months. Protect yourself by taking good pics, documenting condition thoroughly in the description and taking video if necessary. I was almost scammed for over $200 by a Mercari buyer recently, so be persistent with Mercari customer service if a scam buyer tries to steal from you.
Only giving 2 stars because I had decent luck buying items $30 and under on Mercari.
Buyers will damage your item and request for a return and mercari, despite your multiple good reviews of everyone saying that their purchases have been delivered in perfect condition, will believe the buyer and you will be left with a damaged item. Always check the buyer because mercari's customer service is $#*! and they will not defend the seller. Literally why would I sell something that is damaged since that's one of the reasons they could return it?! My buyer wasn't even the same size S why I sold to her and too bad I found out too late or else I would have rejected or cancelled her order. But then again, it will show up that you cancelled an order and work against your ratings. Horrible system.
Tip for consumers:
Check your buyers to see if they’re legit
A great selling platform. While there are some minor flaws, they have been constantly working to make improvements. I really appreciate the low selling fees and easy to use interface! Customer service wasn't the greatest in the past, but recently, they have resolved every issue I have had in a timely fashion!
I also enjoy occasionally shopping on the app, I find the search features work well to show what I'm looking for.
I have sold many things on Mercari as well as other sites. I take pride in making sure I describe my stuff perfectly as well as ship it the same day or next morning, depending on when item is bought. Their rating system is terrible. People can give you a lower rating based on when they feel it should arrive. Mercari can see when you shipped item, yet they feel it's ok to leave the lower rating on your profile. They say they can't remove it. That is not fair to the seller who really is efficient. Their fees are also higher than other sites as well.
Tip for consumers:
If someone sells you something and it’s broken and even though you have pics to send to Mercari, they give you a credit, they will not refund your money
Paid and ordered a musical rocking chair. Item arrives with this orange syrupy fluid in odd places and on the back/front seating material. I thought it was slimed by a toddler like spaghetti. I thought gross and reluctantly guessed I'll clean it. Great. After washing the material in the washer and scrubbing the plastic with bleach to no avail I noticed what was the battery box. I opened it with screwdriver and their was 2 large rusted D batteries leaking all over. I tried to contact seller numerous times. I searched Mercari website for hours for directions to get a refund. I kept on finding that if I left a bad review I would be banned from them? I finally stopped payment and donated the item. I've never bought from them again. I don't trust their practices.
Tip for consumers:
Don’t use it.

Donated destroyed rocker.
Worst place ever, bought a shirt, when I received it it was dirty and disgusting. Tried to return it they gave me a hard time. I eventually gave up. Stick with Ebay, they would never let something like this happen.
Tip for consumers:
Don't do it

Richard and others in customer service of no help they pick and choose who they help. Hard to get paid etc.don't waste your time. All my Twitter and Facebook friends and followers seen my posts. You lost them also. Lol
Do not buy from the sellers on this lousy online business site! They say they have a 100% guaranteed return policy and they do not. I want to return an item and they act as if I am trying to get over on them and be deceptive. What a way to treat your customers! I do business with people who have integrity and practice ethical business principles. If you do the same stay away from this site and its sellers!
They are a joke. Sellers beware.
I'm a reseller of luxury items. Mainly lv. They sided with a buyer letting them return because they said it is fake. Biting my nails, praying, I don't get a fake returned to me.
Being an honest seller does not guarantee you a fair treatment on this app, buyer still could make up excuses to return, Mercari would approve the return then ask you whether you want the item to be returned back to you, WT? An item worth of several hundreds dollars who is just going to throw it away? Should that be even an option? I pulled off all my expensive items out of that app right there right then, the garbage app deserves to sell garbages there.
Sellers are not held accountable. They can cancel an order or just not ship & buyer has to request a cancelation & wait several days for their refund. Buyers need to be able to rate sellers on any purchase they make & have paid for. Will never use this site again. Stay away.
So I sold a duvet on the site. The person rated me then decided a day later that I guess they didn't want it... not really sure. Somehow they contacted Mercari and they are reviewing the transaction and took the $260 away from me. That was 10 days ago and I haven't heard from them back yet. What should I do?
Upon tracking an item that I paid for on the Mercari app, I discovered that the item was in fact delivered by FedEx. However, I never received the item. I searched all around for it but deep down I knew it had been swiped.
STOLEN! Mercari emailed me saying that they would do something about it after I had brought it to their attention when it came time to "rate the seller". But Mercari did nothing for me. I don't even know if they released my money (the cost of the item) to the seller, since I would not give them a rating. Packages should not be delivered unless someone is there to sign for it, unless other arrangements were made in advance. The irony of it all, is that the item that I was awaiting, was a video camera/ home monitor to catch the stinking thieves in this low-life town Nick-named Hollywood. Hopefully, I will be a past resident of Mt Holly, NJ
The outcome of buyers vs sellers over disputes seems exactly what we always have with ebay...
I don't believe Mercari is welcome to America...
I believe we need lawsuits against Mercari...
Look how someone Jared M Baumannreturn sent back to me my used camera that was fully functional and Mercari support Shayla from UK Mercari stated that's what I originally posted on Mercari like no different between working electronics and junk ones.
The last pictures can tell the difference...
We need to do something about this.
I have been a successful seller on this site for years but several times I have posted items in which I would verify through the app by checking and seeing if the same item was selling on their site and how it was being categorized in its listing. Several times I'm doing this I would be prohibited and sent a message from them that I was doing something against policy. I would message them thru their app, thru to call them and email them thru their direct email and only get automated messages back. Now because this has happened to me three times I am on a watch list it seems but what's crazy the same products are being sold on their site and they do nothing about it. No one will give me an explanation for this. I have made some great extra money over the years but their policy and their customer service is awful and is very unfair and you can't get answers.
Tip for consumers:
Do research on other selling sites before choosing to use this one.
I received a shipment of little toys full of smoke stench that will not come out. Seller, EverlysCloset, lied through her teeth, and Mercari said they couldn't prove a smell. So I'm out 42 bucks and Mercari and EverlysCloset are profiting. Then they closed the "ticket" and rated the buyers themselves! So she has all great reviews. No wonder people keep getting taken. NO BUYER PROTECTION. Am deleting my account. It's too bad because there are good deals there, but things end up costing too much. Ebay may have issues, but at least they have buyer protection. Guess if you want to sell a bunch of bad items, Mercari is the place where you can cheat people with their blessing.
Tip for consumers:
Don't use it unless you are willing to eat the cost of whatever you buy because Mercari will not stand behind anything sold. Some sellers cheat, and Mercari doesn't care. Stick with more reputable sites. Am deleting my account and the app. If you do buy something and it smells like smoke, you are out of luck.

I bought toys, and they came full of smoke stench. Garbage.
I've been using both Poshmark and Mercari for a long time. I've had a wonderful experience with Poshmark. Mercari, however, is an entirely different story. This site will try to scam you in every way possible. They will close your account before you have a chance to deposit your money into your bank account. They allow buyers to get ripped off as well as sellers. DO NOT TRUST THIS SITE. It is an absolute nightmare dealing with this app and it's "customer service"
Hey Sammy,

Best,
Team Mercari
I put an offer for a camera that seemed like a good deal. The seller accepted my offer. Then cancelled the sale in 15 minutes. They then relisted the product at a much higher prices without some accessories. Mercari allows sellers to cancel transactions for any reason at any time. So sellers can keep canceling transaction and relisting to their hearts content.

I received an item from Mercari that was a different size than was listed and they refused to authorize a return of the item and suggested I relist the item on their site to make my money back. I believe this is poor business and also it allows them to make more money by encouraging multiple transactions on the same item. They are dishonest. I do not recommend using their service.
My first order with Mercari was a cell phone. I was so excited to receive THEN received a message that the seller cancelled the order because she was unable to ship. WHAT? What kind of nonsense is that? If you're selling and accept my money, even if i got a refund, why are you unable to sell. Not acceptable... Sounded like a lie...
As an app it's technically sound. The purchases are fine as long as you get good sellers, buyers and products. If you get scammed or are dissatisfied, Mercari will NOT help. If you reach out to their team you may be banned. I would not recommend unless you're okay taking a risk and knowing your purchase has no protection.
I have had numerous offers made only to have their payment declined! They don't monitor who is on site. Poshmark and EBay have an excellent payment history with me, Poshmark won't let you bid unless you have current credit card info on file.
I definitely would not recommend this app since they have more fake items listed and they don't know how to tell if it is or not. But if it sells, they take their cut and don't care. Buyers are stuck with it and if they try to resell to recoup their losses, people flag that they are selling counterfeit. Other sellers will report you if you sell and have a good record just to get you kicked off if your competition. If you purchase an item and a seller ships late so when you get it, you are on vacation, Mercari will release funds to seller without you verifying the item is what is stated and delivered to your home.
A nice idea, but the company culture is is not customer friendly whether you are a buyer or seller or both.
Try Vinted or Poshmark. Only reason why I tried Mercari was cause someone referred me there. Biggest mistake.
I tried to by a 60 $ skate board and they never shipped my item or returned my money. They also charged me to my bank account and that's not right. I have plans of sueing mercari. I'm not the first victim. They must be stopped.
So sorry to hear that! We're more than happy to help, just send us an email to contact@mercari.com.^MM
What the $#*! like ya'll already suck why make it worse and make a selling fee!? I am leaving! Done with the bull $#*!! I would'nt even give ya'll a 1 for the rating if there was another option it would be 0.
