Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I have been fighting since November of 2021 to get 176.74 back from a seller that sold me a fake necklace. I reported it to Mercari and I contacted the seller immediately letting them know that I would refuse. The seller saw the message for cancellation but sent the necklace anyway. I refused and never touched the package, and although Mercari said once I let them know it was refused that they would refund me, they never sent a refund. What is crazy is, the seller is not even a real company and the return address is a fake. The post office sent me a letter stating they still have the package but it is undeliverable because this company does not exists. I am fighting with Synchrony bank now because Mercari lied about me having the wrong tracking number. Do not buy from this site. You will get scammed!

Do not buy! Many of the items are fake. Keep screenshots of everything. They lied and said my tracking number is wrong. I have put the entire tracking number so the world can see it is not fake.

A seller is able to change the rating of the buyer is already out of line. I'm talking about giving an honest review. She goes ahead to quarrel me and make changes. I checked her reviews, 2 others said / made the same complian. Poor description of item. How will she improve on that if you keep letting her get 5stars? Mercari closes a case without helping out the buyer. Alot if purchases are waste.
Tip for consumers:
Ask for real pictures. Actual description. For watvhes ask for the face in mm and wrist size. Ull be surprised how alot of them hide flaws.

If you are scammed by a seller, Mercari customer service will not back you up. The return emails do not even make sense and they keep sending the same one over and over. The only recourse they allow is you to return something. The problem is, if you return it, you have NOTHING. Your money is gone and they have the item. I filed a dispute with my bank. I suggest anyone else who feels scammed as a buyer do the same.

I sold two shirts on Mercari at 9$. Mercari claims to take just 10% and that I would get $8.10 for each shirt. The customer paid for shipping, so clearly I was supposed to get back $8.10 each. Nope Mercari took $4.70 from each shirt and I only got back $4.30. I tried to call customer service 4 times and each time they hung up on me. DO NOT SELL YOUR THINGS ON THIS SITE.

Mecari has ripped me off several times on shipping.
I weigh my items carefully and sell on 3 different sites. Mecari is the only one that had ripped me off.
First there shipping is high. Then when it gets to its destination. They say they have to charge me extra.so I didn't make a dime on 2 items in 2 weeks. Ridiculous.
And there customer service is useless. Says weigh your items.

This site is built upon the idea of a carrot on a stick. The sellers will show stock images of items and refuse to provide more specific information, and then what you do buy from them turns out, obviously, to be knockoffs 99% of the time. I've never had a positive experience with them, because the one time that the seller actually sent me the product that it was looking for, it was too small and they REFUSED to issue a return. I didn't do the proper research and just went with the "money-back guarantee" and no remorse buying promise, and it turns out that they WILL NOT issue returns if the item doesn't fit or has any other physical discrepancy like smell. With a policy like that, they are well aware that the majority of their user base will be scamming customers but refuse to provide service so that they can make a profit. Please, do not make the mistake that I did. Do not buy from here. DO NOT.

Ordered hair dryer from mecari they shipped to wrong address and what I recieved was nothing close to what I ordered. They told me I had to open an account with Mecari before they would resolve the issue. Thank goodness I used paypal. They got on it right away.

I sold some brand new Zara shoes. I had pictures of the whole shoes and size. Size 40 is a size 10. I wear a 10 fits me prefect. The lady said she's a 9 1/2 and the shoes were way to small. She lied. Mercari approved her to get her refund back. No refunds! Sold as is. Smh closing my closet for good

Mercari is holding my money hostage as a seller - they will not release it unless I provide them detailed banking information. I will not do this, they are based in Japan (not USA) and I'm not interested in giving out that information to a foreign country. They offer an option of using your balance owed as a way to purchase items - which would have been a fine alternative - except it doesn't work. Spent several days talking with "support", with zero solutions. They take Venmo and Paypal, but they won't send you your money owed from selling this way. With support that doesn't actually do anything, I'd rate this place as 80% scam, 20% data thieves. STAY AWAY FROM MERCARI

I sold a Coach Wallet on there the person didn't rape me but he did text me on there telling me he got it so Merceri knows they received the item but refuses to give me my money saying I didn't hav a tracking number... Don't use them they do nothing but steal people's money!

I purchased an expensive collector Funko pop and the seller sent a completely different cheap Funko pop instead. Fortunately I requested a refund the same day I received the package and Mercari approved the return. Do not purchase from a seller named Oofwhat. Buyers cannot post a message or rating when a scam occurs so sellers have false high ratings.

I purchased an item that was delivered while I was traveling. When I opened the package, the items was completely shattered, in pieces. Poor packaging, However, since Mercari proceeded to rate the seller before I opened the package, I cannot get a refund. Poor customer service. Avoid this site! Photos available, but unable to upload.

Terrible communication and service. Had three orders cancelled with no warning and no explanation. Limited my account so I could not communicate with the sellers. Charges hit my credit card but I receive nothing on their site reference status. I have sent over 5 messages over 5-days and they will not respond to explain why and how to unlimit my account. Terrible communication and service. Very frustrating when they cut you off with no explanation, and they provide no response to the one way they allow you to communicate. EBay does not do this. Amazon does not do this. They may question, but they don't just cut you off at the knees with no explanation and not respond to any communication.
Tip for consumers:
Expect to be cancelled when you need them the most. And I have seen their responses to some other reviews, and they off to use their established help contact system. This is a red herring, a complete lie. After 5 day and a message each day, each day seeing an automated response they will respond in a few hours, and nothing. I really needed the items. Terrible for me and the seller.

I have proof of shipping the item, and the buyer hasn't received it because it got lost in the mail and was never scanned in. So since I have proof of shipping (via receipt), you'd think that they would give you the funds and refund the buyer, but no. They said well the buyer can cancel any time they would like now, and I hope your item is found. POSHMARK IS WAY BETTER. If you want good customer service and insurance on your items, poshmark will take care of you. Yeah, they take an extra 10% but every issue I've had with packages not arriving, or shipping issues, they've taken care of it.

I would give a 0 rating if I could. I ordered a glass pyrex double boiler. It arrived in a baby diaper box broken in several pieces. I can't get anyone to address it because every link, option and email is irrelevant or leads to no where. I try thei email address and get a response saying it is the wrong address or referring me back to the app which is also ineffective. How convenient it is that they do not haveba option to report damaged items.

Most unprofessional company I've ever dealt with delt with some lady at popboxshoeshop that can't even pay for her items and they are on her side instead of mine as a seller. They gave her three days to rate the redwing boots I sold her and even after that I never got paid after she talked me down 100 already. I sent about 40 messages back and forth even proving with tracking delivery conformation and still not getting a reply. I should have been paid four days ago the boots sold eight days ago and she stole them six days ago. They kicked me off the sight for getting upset about it. I waisted all week trying to get 112. Dollars for boots worth 250 and never even got it. Worst company I've seen I hope they crash there garbage sights not worth anyone's time unless your a scam.

I sold an item which was irreplaceable and it got bashed in shipping. They say they have a$200 coverage for damage but you'll never see it. All my reviews state what an excellent packer I am but they tried to blame it on the packing not the post office. I just lost out to 3lbs of packing paper and 2lbs of product. I do not blame Mercari for the actions of unethical sellers but I do blame them for how they handled the situation. I purchased an item on Mercari for $90.72. After a week the seller had not shipped the item. Next, the seller canceled the order. They then relisted the item for $108.00. Their reason was that the item weighed too much. In other words, they should have asked more to begin with. When I contacted Mercari they said they monitor sellers for canceled orders if they are excessive. So, their policy is not to confront sellers when they step out of line. I have canceled my account and will never buy or sell on Mercari.

I bought a necklace that was listed as "silver" in the the description and in multiple photos. I received a GOLD necklace instead. I was confident that there'd be no problem returning this since the listing was clearly inaccurate. Instead they replied that I should email the seller to confirm specifics before buying and DENIED my return and closed out the sale so I couldn't even leave a review for the seller! Never in my years and years of buying things online has any company sided with the seller when they've clearly provided false information! And we're talking about a used $28 necklace! It's not even an expensive item!
I've sent probably 30 messages to their customer service team saying they made the wrong decision and that this is a deceptive practice and they just keep stating that it wasn't incorrectly listed - it absolutely WAS!
Buyer beware that on Mercari, the listings aren't accurate, and they don't care!

This company did absolutely NOTHING to resolve the issue I had with a buyer... I had a rating on my account that was unfair and probably spam, and they refused to take it off - decreasing my overall rating. Their rating system is really effed up!
I would NOT recommend selling full time with Mercari... they just aren't fair towards sellers. Poshmark is much better in this area...

I have sold on Mercari for almost two years and loved the app. One week ago I was suspended from my account with no explanation. I have emailed every day since with no answer. Tonight I received a message that I am no longer allowed to use my account or open another account on Mercari. With no explanation. PLUS a I have money in my account that I made! And I have no access to it. Since this happened I have met many others in the same situation. It's incredible to me. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. They have stolen my money, closed my shop, with no explanation as to why. I do not recommend seller here anymore.
