Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.

This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.

To interact with their customer service you have to download their app. You can message a seller or buyer but are barred from talking to them outside Mecari. I have had several cases open that were all closed without any help. In one case I was very happy with the coins I bought but, a valued coin was missing. I sent them what happened and written description of coin (HISPAN with two columns). I sent a zoomed in picture of the coin from original posting. They closed the case because they said I did not provide picture of it! You have 24 hours communicate or case is closed (even on a weekend). This is always the case with Mecari. Today I purchased 3 coins (separate transactions) on Mecari for unbelievable low prices. I tried to message seller about coins and was blocked by them! I saw the seller had no previous sales or followers and thought oh no this is a scam! So I tried to cancel order but could not because coins were shipped within the hour. I tried to get assistance from Mecari but was brushed off with several messages and the case closed. If you buy something on Mecari and there is an issue send back item immediately. If you don't it will be yours no matter what because Mecari customer support will close your case out. Be sure to use their authorized return label if you don't Mecari will release your funds to seller and you will no recourse to obtain refund.

Received rechargeable Coleman air pump this morning. Plugged it in to charge it. Power converter does not light up. Wasn't this tested before it was listed?

Never try mercari! There is lots of scammer and counterfeit items. Mercari does nothing to protect seller. You can never reach mercari at all. This app is a total trash.

1 of the worst places to sell or purchase anything. I had 5-7 items I had on that website I really forgot about the website that's how nonpopular they are. I received a email 1 fat saying I sold an item, so I go ship the item I paid for, the seller gets it and then Mercari sends me a email stating I had to verify my account which I did.

After numerous emails asking where my money was I never got my money.

I spoke to several other people in my community that said they had or were having problems with Mercari so we decided to get together and find an atty to file a class action suit against Mercari! BEWARE MERCARI is a FRAUD

Post office accidentally cut off the tracking number. Mailed the jewelry and sent the buyer the receipt explaining what happened. It was received, and I never got paid for this special pair of earrings... couldn't get them to respond for weeks and they have "voicemail" which is really an email... DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ON MERCARI

I ordered an electric typewriter for my 95 year old father. It was WAY too big and heavy, which was not obvious in the posting (no measurements). I tried to return it, explaining I couldn't even get it out of the box by myself. Stupidly, since I wanted to be able to just seal it back up, I didn't take it out or plugged it in. It being a monster as opposed to a portable typewriter was not a sufficient excuse for returning, so my request was denied. I was angry and frustrated, but since I was stuck with it, I finally got someone to take it out of the box and tried to type on it. It doesn't work. It turns on, but the carriage only goes halfway and most of the keys don't even hit the page! (The packaging wasn't great, no padding, just a box and some wadded up paper, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised.) I tried again to return it, this time because of false advertising. I heard from about 20 people who all said the same thing: You only get one chance to return, your initial complaint wasn't enough, case closed, second complaint doesn't count. Try to resell it with us! (EVEN THOUGH IT DOESN'T WORK!) We are all just following protocol. Doesn't matter if the product is garbage. Case closed. No chance to review sellers or Mercari. So I spent $147.69 ($45 of that was shipping) on a machine that doesn't work and have absolutely no recourse. I don't even know if the sellers are aware of all the back and forth I went through, but I have the return address on the box, so I will be sending them a letter...

Tip for consumers:
DON'T USE MERCARI!!! THEY DO NOT HAVE YOUR BEST INTERESTS AT HEART.

None since the one I ordered didn't work.

Mercari DOES NOT release your money i bought item on November 11 and never receive item and they already took the money right away out of my account so Mercari STOP THE LIE you take funds right away, I have contact Mercari already and they Did NOTHING TO HELP letting the seller SCAM others. This Website they LIE and SCAM be Aware.

We bought and item for $100.00 Seller close account right away after it took the money we never receive the item and we contact Mercari they don't want to help saying the item was bought out of platforms that is a LIE we bought item THRU Mercari phone application with a Debit card, they are letting scammer sell item in there website and NOT doing anything to protect buyers letting them sell and SCAM HARD WORKING PEOPLE.

MERCARI WEBSITE IS A SCAM BE AWARE.

I sold a lularoe item that was just released so it was selling for $275. A buyer with no prior reviews bought it and I was hesitant but did the sale anyway. When the leggings came she refused to open the door for the mailman and a week later when they actually got her she refused the package. She had 0 communication for a week then a crappy I don't want it attitude. Mercari was so unhelpful you get these copy/paste responses and they were like don't worry we will cancel the transaction and refund your buyer and you will get your item back in 15 days. By the time I got it back I took a 150$ loss, including the shipping. I didn't even get to rate the horrible buyer they just gave her a refund and didn't care they were breaking their own policies. Don't sell on this product. They don't protect sellers at all. I had 21 prior transactions and they treated me like crap. When I asked for a manager they locked my post so I could no longer type. Stick to eBay they have phone numbers and follow their rules.

Scammed 4times in 1 week with iwatches. Was charged three times. The sellers were unresponsive after purchase and then refunded my money back days later. The 4th time purchased a watch from seller AnnaLWebb it shows no scratches in the picture or description. The watch came to me severely scratched up on the apple watch face and Rebecca is supposed to be the support crew. Did nothing! My bank said they will deal with each name of deceitful people and horrible customer service. From seller AnnaLWebb (Anna L. Webb) from Oklahoma City and Danielkok from Florida, Lauren Zapetalfit from Tennesse, bluefacefrank and Rebecca from customer support.

I can not believe how this app is even up and running. They rob you blind of what you sell. They take an enormous fee out and then when you get a buyer trying to scam you they just let them scam you! I sold a massive 23 carat diamond ring and the guy paid 1000 bucks for it! This is a genuine mined diamond ring with a authentic certificate! It is gorgeous! The guy gets this huge diamond and now decides he wants to return it! Obviously he is swapping the diamond out! I am just blown away. I sent numerous emails and called and left messages and no reply. Instead they just accept the return like it's a toy or shirt being handled and shipped back! I about flipped when I saw they disregarded me a trusted seller for a year over a no body who's bought nothing from them ever! This guy's a 100% scammer and they just sided with him! I am so upset. DONT SELL ON MERCARI. I have a YouTube channel and I work with diamond and moissanite companies and I am now for sure letting everyone on YouTube know not to shop or sell on there EVER! THEY STEAL ALL YOUR SELLING MONEY AND THEN TREAT U LIKE DIRT! I've sold a lot of diamond rings and all my buyers were ecstatic what they paid for these beautiful authentic diamonds! I'm telling you head my warning. Sell else where! Shop else where!

Mercari is not that bad of an app. It's actually an easy way to sell your items. It does have a selling fee, but at the same time, it's a lot less of a fee than many selling apps and websites. Plus I always wondered how they made money to keep the app going. Also it's not that hard to raise your price by the 1 dollar you'd lose from the fee. You do have to be careful of scammers though. But there are scammers on every website. I once bought "authentic apple earbuds" that were definitely not authentic. The lesson I learned from that: ask for their own photo of the item along with the label photo. If the listing is just stock photos, don't trust it. Same goes on any other selling website. Also, read their ratings. Often people will leave a "good" rating even if the item wasn't authentic or as described to be nice. I usually won't buy from someone who has negative ratings or no ratings so maybe that's why I've had good experiences. Anywho, it's not the app's fault if you receive something in poor condition or not as described (it's the sellers), BUT they CAN help you if you contact them about it.

I just sold my first item on Mercari. I thought it would be a better option than POSHMARK because Mercari charges 10% as opposed to Poshmark's 20%. When I was listing the item I was not asked about where I wanted funds deposited. It wasn't until I made the sell that I was told my funds were now available to make another purchase. I had too look through SELLERS options to find out about direct deposit or InstaPay which apparently in one I have to provide my ID and account and routing number, NO FREAKING WAY! Or through InstaPay which will charge you $2 for every transaction. Not feeling the seller vibe anymore. I now feel for the sellers on these apps.

It forces you to update the app which I don't want to do!

Then ask me if I'm registered to vote. It's none of their goddamn business...

And because it's in Australia it could be run by some Chinese military internet communist people.

I bought a few good things from them but obviously that are run by
BAD CONTROLING CAPITALIST

A seller tried to get one over on me by claiming some FAKE Nikes were real. After a lot of research and only finding those products on days old and temporary Chinese sites, I contacted Nike directly. It was confirmed that the products were fake. However, I did receive an email hours later stating they are only supposed to confirm authenticity with authorities. I think thats an idiotic policy but its too late, they confirmed the fakes. I send all information straight to Mercari. All the proof and how theres no way this seller is posting authentic items. Mercari said thank you and gave me a $5 coupon. I dont care about that. I want to buy authentic products. Its been well over a week and that seller is still selling fake products. Theyve never removed the seller or their products. So much for their policy about authenticity. After talking to other people theyve also left Mercari because theyve received fake makeup products, bags, shoes, etc. Looks like its time to move solely over to PoshMark! At least they take action when you provide proof of fake products. Buyer BEWARE!

I see a lot of negative reviews. It may be that they have now improovedbecause I absolutely love mercari. I have pretty much switched over from ebay selling used books.
I have not seen any problems with mercari at all. I feel that the selling and buying features are outstanding, and I love the fact that the fees are simply 10%. This makes it extremely easy to list items.
Being a book seller the only thing I would like to see differently would. Sing able to sell at mid level between dollars ( like $ 6.50 instead of $ 6 or 7) they only allow to sell in whole dollar amounts. This is not a big deal, it me just nitpicking. Other than that small flaw that I can except I highly recommend mercari, and would go as far to say they are the best.
Complaints I hear...
Payments only processed on Mondays. My response. Who cares. Paypal holds funds pending for up to 21 days if selling on eBay.

Buyer not paid till reviewed. My response. Get over it. And if buyer does not respond after 3 days of receiving item mercari automatically gives you a great rating and makes funds available

Hard to refund. My response... Don't sell items that you know will be need to return.

Over all I feel mercari is the best. Keep it up mercari I am here to stay

I ordered four vintage mugs and the package arrived. I opened and three vintage mugs are broken. Tiny pieces everywhere in the package. What I see from my own eyes, the seller didn't pack really good job. I contacted the seller and she was like oh and acted dumb. I told her that the mugs are vintage and it's hard to find. She should have packed very carefully. I contacted the customer service and they kept asking for the picture and I already sent some pictures in the first place when I immediately contacted them. They said I need to send more different pictures and I was like ok. The final conclusion, they said I have to return the last mug that weren't broken. I was like wow! I have been go thru all hassle for days. I didn't know that they closed the window in two days. It's my first time using the app and I don't check my phone often. Right now I can't ask more questions because they closed the window. I have to return the package back to the seller. I will never buy anything from Mercari!

I sold a item and in the same day Customer canceled order sending it back to me broken I sent a message to the customer never replied back so if you have a Spenseth item the customer that buy it can say The item is defective and return you a broken item and they will return the money back to the customer people be careful

We will NEVER use Mercari EVER AGAIN. THEY SUCK. Our product got lost in the mail and was returned to the sender/shipper & it was damaged by UPS. There's No One to call at Mercari and there's no way that we can cancel our order. Warning: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH MERCARI. It is a Great Headache, we did not get our product that we bought nor did we get our money back. We were ripped off.

IF SOMEONE CANCELLS YOUR SALE FOR NO REASON OR EXPLANATION, YOU CAN; T EVEN LEAVE FEEDBACK OR MAKE CONTACT. MERCARI DOES NOTHING TO ENCOURAGE GOOD BEHAVIOR!

I was just kicked off Mercari a few minutes ago.
Did I do anything wrong?
NO!
Almost 500 sale's all but 8 were 5 star rated AND the ones that were not blamed me for slow mail Trump created our did not read ther listing and was buyers remorse.
I ALSO had over 400 followers.
You would think having a tipp rated seller is a good thing. Not on Mercari.

I am anything but a fan of Ebay, horrific for sellers and great for scammers, but the people here are beyond stupid.

I get an email at 10pm on X-Mas eve demanding proof and sales slips off the items I am selling.
Must be provided in 72 hours.

As I write this, it is 36 hours and already booted.

I sell sports collectibles AND have been for 37 years.
Never once have I been asked for such a thing. Other than sales for taxes, but they clearly fell they are above the power of the IRS!
Most items (99.9%) are 20 years old to over 100 years old.
So no I don't have original sales slips on most items.
They know NOTHING about this type of product line and as many people here have said, they just reply with a generic messages that has nothing to do with the issue.

I am sure by the names, none of these people are USA based. All seem to be in Europe by the names I see (first only).
To come out of nowhere, with this demand and in Christmas Eve no less AND them boot me in 1/2 the time asked for is complete BS.

Tip for consumers:
Totally unpredictable here, flighty, nno brains, random threat's out of nowhere.

Pathetic at handling returns, never does due diligence in checking if a return is valid. Add bad as ebay here.

Sellers beware! They will side with uncanny buyers all the time. Sold an Brand New Item, Buyer filed a return 3 days later and what I got back was a different item that was completely shredded. They will only accept pictures from the buyer and not from the seller. I was scammed from a buyer with no history and nothing could be done about it.

STAY AWAY FROM MERCARI IF YOU ARE SELLER! SCAM!

I ordered pants from this website and the seller didn't ship them for two weeks and when i asked if they'd shipped she never responded to me. Tracking the package the whole way, it made a full circle and was delivered back to where it was shipped. The seller was not apoligetic in the slightest and refused to respond. I tried ordering one more time from a different seller and after a week of waiting when i messaged her to see if she'd shipped the shoes i ordered, she said "i can't find them." That was the last straw in letting me know that this website and the sellers on it are insanely unreliable and unprofessional. The only good thing I have to say about my experience is that the website was quick and willing to refund me my money both times. So all in all, SAVE YOUR MONEY, TIME, AND FRUSTRATION AND DONT BOTHER ORDERING FROM THIS WEBSITE.
