Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
Please remember, the Mercari team does not give 0 F***''s about you, always know this.
I (was) a seller. I sold tons of stuff. I wrapped my packages in pink mailers, pink tissue paper, pink ribbon and glittery pink thank you cards with had written notes W/ a free gift that anyone could use, along with shipping the girls order the next day.
I've always gotten great reviews (170+) until a NEW user rated me "good". I messaged her to ask what was wrong, she told me she loved everything, tissue paper, mailer, note (in her own words) etc, but she rated ME good (and I quote) "I rated you good ONLY because I am upset at MYSELF for not seeing where it said sample" which I listed. I asked her if she'd conifer changing it, that I'd appreciate it. She told me "No, sorry. I'll be leaving it the way it is"
I contacted Mercari. Let's be honest we all know and have heard how awful they are and give 0 f***s. I sent them photos of what she said, how a he clearly said she rated me based on herself not reading. They wouldn't change it. I contacted them on Facebook. They wouldn't change it either.
This is how ignorant they are. They would let a NEW (1 ratings from me) user who looks 12 (underage for the app and shouldn't be using her mother card) rate me based on her own ignorance for not reading (WHO DOESN'T READ WHAT THEY ARE PURCHASING!) They let her rate me based on her fault. I really hope they're happy. They now have that user (who currently is listing used makeup and shoes as new) instead of an old seller who always describes her items correctly.
I closed all my open listings and am awaiting a supervisors look into it as I request and better damn be granted. I will update this listing if they fix it, but it's Mercari. I hope they enjoy their new user! I'm going to make it my goal to plaster this every single place I can on the behalf of all Mercari sellers who put up with this terrible site. By the way, I made $1.70 after paying for shipping & packaging.:-)

If you buy something defective, their link to complain w/in 72hrs doesn't work & then you're screwed
Tip for consumers:
Tried to appeal within first 72hrs, but Mercari's link didn't work. Seller wouldn't respond to a message within that window either. Mercari let me know basically "too bad, you're stuck with it."
If sellers know they can screw you and get away with it, they have incentive to do so. Makes Mercari a platform for deceitful sellers. Never buying on your site again Mercari.

Made my first purchase. Had a $20 coupon for doing so. Negotiated a lower price with seller for item. When submitted my purchase, my receipt came up with the negotiated price, the shipping and handling fee, tax and minus the coupon. I saved a copy of the receipt. However, when my credit card was charged through PayPal, the coupon was not deducted and the price was the original price which, of course, made my tax higher. The total my card was charged was over $25 more than what my receipt showed. I contacted seller. She advised that I needed to contact Mercari. I contacted Mercari and got several email replies. One was showing me their "Satisfaction Guaranteed" statement. Another was from Trexie G. Stating that the seller has to go through Mercari to resolve my issue. I contacted seller and advised accordingly and seller advised she would contact Mercari. THEN the back and forth started. Mercari would not give seller any info so that the seller could refund me. And when I tried to give seller the info, Mercari kept (IN REAL TIME) deleting my messages to the seller. In turn they were deleting messages from the seller to me. I got fed up and contacted my PayPal account to file a dispute. I also contacted my credit card company to advise them what was going on. I sent to both copies of the "conversations", emails and my receipt to show what my charges were supposed to be. NOW GET THIS: THEN I received a "threatening" message from Mercari that since I went through PayPal instead of through Mercari to file a dispute, I was risking deletion of my account! Like I care because I won't shop there ever again. But just goes to show what a HUGE SCAM this website is.

Mercari is a buying and selling website for the average Joe and from what it appears, for businesses as well. Most items, from what I can tell, are sold at discounted prices. I never pay full price for anything and enjoy finding the finer, higher ended items at a lower price, even if they are gently used. I had hoped Mercari would be a legitimate website from which to buy and possibly sell, but I learned on very first purchase just what a scam this "business" is.

BUYER BEWARE* If you ever decide to start a claim over a purchase just know that Mercari algorithms will refuse to allow you to rate or leave a review about that experience. THIS IS A WAY THAT MERCARI SAVES ITS self from really bad reviews. I am SHOCKED that after my HORRIBLE yet true experience I was then denied my right to leave a review about the experience. It propelled me to make sure i left reviews on YELP, FB, BBB and now here just to make sure EVERYONE is aware of all the horrible things that could happen if you purchase things through Mercari. It is my lifes mission to leave this website fair reviews on any platform I can find because they dont offer that reviewing option for their customers. Here is what I was told in writting:
"I understand you'd like to leave feedback for this transaction, I'll gladly let you if we can.
However, as I mentioned before, if a return request has been submitted the option to leave feedback will no longer be available, and since the request was denied, our system here automatically rates the transaction.

I have sold on Mercari for seven months. They have always been responsive when I had an issue as a seller or buyer. The app is user friendly and the fees are not excessive. For ease of use I give 5 stars. Things went pretty well until I successfully started selling handbags. I have Authentic items but don't like to reveal where I get my items from. I don't know of any restaurant that gives out their secret sauce. I don't know of any business that gives out their wholesaler. I would get questions from potential buyers which is fine. But I noticed the most antagonizing confrontations came from other sellers or low ballers that asked for already heavily reduced items at half off. These miserable people would flag your items out of sheer jealousy. Just a few days ago a miserable lump of flesh came messaged me and asked me to post serial number to which I responded I would when I got home. She instantly reported she was going to report me. So I asked for what? I looked on her page and she sold a Louis Vuitton bag with none of the LV signature hallmarks. I did in fact post my serial numbers and a receipt. Another person asked if they could have my original receipt?! Which I stated "no". Where where where do these self entitled delusional existences come from? You are getting a bag for at least 60% off retail but you want a full price receipt?! With MY information?! So THAT item got flagged and now my account is under review. Something is going on at Mercari. There are certain sellers that never post any proof of authencity and they never get touched. I have seen a few sellers with HUNDREDS of LV bags with no proof of authencity and nothing ever happens to them. I'm starting to think employees and particular Japanese sellers are favored on Mercari. If anyone outside of that makes too many sales they become a target. My gripe with Mercari is them suspending my account without giving me a way to respond and without them being able to prove that item was not Authentic. I see plenty of sellers that never show receipts. Frankly in resell don't think you should have to provide everything like a retail store. I do think you should be able to show Authentic hallmarks. But Mercari seems to have different rules for different sellers.

Not only is it very hard to get ahold of someone at the "help center", but they are very rude and write to their sellers like they are dirt.

I have been selling on mercari UK for almost 5 weeks.
I have also purchased some items from other sellers.
In total I made 9 purchases & only three was delivered. Either the seller ignored me or gave me excuses as to why they didn't ship the item. Out of the three that came one was as described, one came 3 weeks later & the third was a counterfeit.
Of course once the transactions was cancelled you cannot leave the seller feedback.
I have sold over 15 items. Two of which I was scammed by the buyer.
One was a "Not as described" claim. This buyer claimed that the items wasn't sealed ( which they was) she then told mercari that she used the item, & they sent her an email stating that she isn't entitled for a refund as she used it but instead gave her the balance as "credits" which she showed me.
She then told me she wasn't going to send it back as she already got the refund.
They mercari told me that I have to accept this item back even thou she used it. Which I find disgusting and scheming. So basically mercari won't refund her because she used my item but instead gave her credits to the same value of which I will have to account for by accepting her dirty used item back.
Mercari offers no seller protection and I will be reporting them. The site is full of scammers, under age children & people asking for expensive items for stupid prices.
The second item I sold was cancelled by mercari because the buyer didn't confirm her identity. But I was able to claim my money back as I had proof that the item was delivered.
So if you sell something mark it as posted before you send it. Always send the item tracked. Use your own pictures. Don't create listings for people for a bundle of items or if you do, photograph all the items and use those pictures on the listing.
Mercari should be closed. They make money from stealing from sellers by closing their accounts and keeping their money.
The customer service don't give a $#*! and think they can force you in to accepting what they want.
Stay clear eBay might be expensive but if things go wrong at least your protected and the buyers that scam you get done for fraud.

I was with ebay for over 10 years. I decided on a whim to try macari it was the biggest mistake I ever made they are the most unethical jerks that I have ever done business with... I was scammed on a purchase that I made and they stuck with the seller... I am still waiting for my return FedEx sticker that they said had already been approved... they do not care about their members. I am selling everything I can possibly put on there up until I receive my label to return this scam purchase. They have no pride in a job well done and it becomes so very obvious when having to do business with them. They are intentionally holding back my label as it is very easy for even a dumbass like macari to see what is going on. Which is why the return has already been approved... go with any other company just don't go with this one, I promise you, you will be very sorry and lose money if you do. I purchased a piece of China from a buyer who then sent another piece, unlike the piece I purchased in it's place. It had been my second time doing business with this seller, I noticed no problem the first time communicating with her as she spoke perfect English... after she scammed me and got caught all of her messages were unreadable like someone who was trying to write English or speak it but didn't know how. What a joke. It would take an idiot only one minute to check and see what I purchased and what she sent me yet I am still awaiting my label for return I'm assuming they get a real kick out of causing problems for other people... they have not answered my last message in over 12 hours. Or made any attempt to send me my return label. I have made my friends and family aware of their Shady practices and they to agree that it is a very underhanded company... please...! Save yourself don't do business with them... there are many other reputable places that you can hook up with... this one is concerned only with themself not their members... Terrable shady people no pride in their work... put them out of business...

#1 - My daughter was looking for a certain pair of shoes and found many. She put a pair in her cart. A little while later, the seller BLOCKED her. For no reason. She didn't know why and thought because her profile didn't show much and wasn't really active. She still wanted the shoes, so I went ahead and followed the process on my phone. Found the shoes, put them in my cart to buy. However, the Mercari mobile app would not process my PayPal properly and kept giving me an error. I attempted multiple times, still an error. I did not want to use my CCard so I tried looking why it wasn't working, etc. I used the same pay process with another app using PayPal that very day and it worked fine. So - PayPal on Mercari mobile app DOES NOT WORK. It was late, I fell asleep. #2 - Next day, the seller BLOCKED ME TOO! Because the shoes were in my cart? I don't know. But what difference does that make? I couldn't finalize the purchase. No transaction went through. They were just saved in my cart. No message, nothing. Well, that person lost a sale and we reported her as "not really wanting to sell". There was no legit reason for blocking. Ridiculous. #3 Found another pair from a different seller, brand new. My daughter bought those using my CCard since PayPal would not work. The shoes were received and came with a return label inside the box (I assume for a potential return?). Daughter tried the shoes on immediately, they did not fit well (too loose) and she wanted to return them. Mercari states it's up to the seller if they will accept returns. Fine. Since there was a free return label ALREADY in the shipping box, one would assume that means returns are permitted. Right? I told my daughter to contact the seller to request a return and make sure (per the label). Well... not only did the seller refuse any return, but then immediately BLOCKED her! Yup. So that's what you get with sellers at Mercari. Real nice. Real professional. Sellers who are rude, want to snatch your money, and love to block customers, even AFTER they took your money. GOOD LUCK!

This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I made a purchase of a brand new Cuisinart Premium 7-in-1 Convection AirFryer Toaster Oven TOA-60,1800-Watts on 12-21-22. This product did not deliver until 01-04-23. Once we opened the box, we saw that there was a big dent in the side of it. I immediately contacted Mercari about it with and sent in 5 detailed pictures. Mercari asked me to send in 5 more pictures of it from afar back within 24 hours. This I truly believe, is irrelevant since the other 5 pictures showed the dent and the damaged box. I think the company was just buying time to not let me return it. I was contacted by the seller the same day as I sent these pictures. She apologized and told me she would send another one out. She explained this is not how she shipped it. That she saw it took forever to get to me. Once I started speaking with her, I thought Mercari stepped out of the situation. I thought I was sending this product back with no issues, until I received a message from Mercari saying my product was denied to be returned because I didn't provide the 5 other pictures. I asked them could I send in these pictures to reopen the dispute? Told them I thought these pictures were no longer needed since I had already spoke to the seller and she claimed she would ship another one out to me. This product was a Christmas present to my mother. I dropped this box off to my mother late Thursday afternoon. I then left. She opened it late Thursday night and saw the dent. She sent me the pictures and I uploaded them to the Mercari website. However, she left for a quick trip out of town for the weekend. She didn't get back till yesterday. I couldn't have got the other 5 pictures and uploaded the pictures until the next Tuesday. I believe Mercari should give a customer longer than 24 hours to respond before they completely dismiss the dispute. This is terrible customer service. I am now out of $175.00 to no fault of my own. I have contacted them several times to try and get this corrected but they keep just telling me the dispute is closed. They didn't even give it 4 days to try to resolve! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Only gave them one star because I had to...

Marcari was unable to solve My problem from head office to local team members who are not well trained to deal complicated issues. Very poorly handled the issue.
But thank to trustplots.com my voice was heard from mad Bussiness practices. Am in the process of persuading small claim court against both party. Marcari acting irresponsibly by awarding buyer with my goods. I just checked the goods serials numbers and they are currently activated.
All I asked from Marcari since buyer received the wrong order, to please return those items back to sender. Easy as is! Instead Marcari who advertised guaranteed financial safety between buyers and sellers in my case it is false and betrayal. Sprint is billing my business over $2000. 00 because they didn't receive returned ordered. Marcari I believe didn't get a 10% fees took all on me and rewarded the buyer with someone else's goods.
When I was referred to Local team members, they are confused about the whole argument stating that they can't pay me for item that can't be used. Did I asked for money or payment? No! All I want for the item to be returned sender as usual period! But Marcari team members are confused. Here is how Marcari site normally works:
A seller list an item on Marcari site then buyer click and buy it, then funds are withhold with Marcari until item deliver and buyer is satisfied then funds are released to seller. If buyer unhappy with item for any reason and buyer decided to return item, upon buyer request Marcari still withhold funds until buyer returned items to seller then refund is released to buyer. Pretty as it sounds like, in my case buyer was rewarded with my goods and refunded. I lost Marcari site not safe!

This app is by fsr the worst app for sellers and buyers. I appreciated the fact that there were no hidden fees. Sellers get 100% of the money. However, too many issues with selling or buying and ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE AVAILABLE. One might check the Better Business Bureau as not a single positive review exists. I sold a $300 iPad to someone and once I shipped it, I realized it was a generation 2 instead of a generation 3 as advertised. She wanted to return it which was not a problem because it was my fault. Mercari took over 2 weeks to allow us to return the item. In the meantime her money was held up and I was worried that she would send the incorrect item back. Once we were permitted to return the item the lady provided tracking and I received a box in the mail. As soon as confirmation went to Mercari that my item was delivered they released her funds back to her. Luckily, my iPad was in the box but she could have sent a pair of underwear and Mercari would have released the money back to her. My latest issue with them is that a seller offered to send more pictures of her item to prove authenticity. I asked her if she could post more pictures on Mercari and she told me that she would email me pics. As soon as I entered my email Mercari bans me for one month. That is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. They said they are reviewing the reason I would insert my email. I told them that would take 10 seconds if they read our conversation but I have gotten no response. Why would I do a transaction outside of there business when there's no fees on either end for the seller or the buyer? They are STEEEEWPID not stupid. I keep getting automated responses from Jazzy Jeff, Holly Hobbit, and Little Bill. All of the automated messages have a ridiculous first and last name. The customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. This is probably because there is none. I am not sure how this app continues to stay in business when there is about 90% negative reviews compared to the positive. Worst app EVER

Claimed they got a notice from the company that owns Elf On The Shelf Dolls claiming I was a fraud. I sent in 3 receipts showing that they were authentic and then they replied 13 days later and said buying off Amazon didn't mean they were real. Problem was, I never sent in an Amazon receipt. The idiots never even looked at the receipts and are lazy scammers. Their help center is a joke and when I said I wanted my account reviewed, they told me if I listed another LEGITIMATE ELF ON THE SHELF DOLL, they would ban me for life. They are the laziest people and do nothing to help legitimate sellers. I had a friend list my Elf On The Shelf Dolls with all the same info and they've remained up on her page for 3 weeks without one warning or "possible ban" from Mercari. They also upcharge on their shipping rates, as I went to USPS and Fedex and confirmed that their rates didn't go up as much as Mercari stated. You can only reach them after 1pm from the USA bc they are based in China. They know the US Courts can't do anything to them, so they just continue to threaten their Sellers and steal the money that should be going in our pockets. Buyers can complain all they want, but I'm honest to a fault, and I've been majorly screwed over by other Sellers who will leave poor reviews to threaten your rating. Mercari is a complete SCAM. SELLERS AND BUYERS SHOULD BEWARE!
