Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
Mecari use to be good but now it has more resellers than buyers. If you price something at $6 they make offer for $5 If you price something at $100 they make offer $25 covid 19 created more sellers which means less sales, So I'm going to try and find a new selling app.

Look I know that Mercari is requiring this because it's trying to keep out fraudulent sellers and scam artists, but if you're going to have this secret hidden requirement to allow sellers to even accept payment from potential buyers, then put it somewhere on your website where it can be clearly found and understood. I received a text message from a potential buyer telling me his payment was declined and his account would be blocked, as well as my account would be deactivated if I didn't purchase a One Vanilla Visa gift card to accept payments. I can't even use my account despite having it verified through my gov't issued ID unless I have a tiny, meaningless little gift card? For such an overhyped sellers app I can't say I'm very impressed with all the hoops I have to jump through to even sell one item. I will definitely not be using this app in the future.

Bought a DVD series off Mecari. I did not leave a review yet so I could watch some of DVD before review. Within 3 days Mecari reviews it then tells me I cannot get my money after review. Dvd was supposed to be new. Closed my account. Tried to add pictures but it wouldn't go through for some reason.

My account was suspended due to ID verification. Although is did verify my self. My Passport is a Mexican passport and that's why they said they couldn't verify it. Now they closed my account and I have money on it, $130 I lost. This makes me really mad because I'm a stay at home mother and I've been messaging them emailing them and they are dodging me. I need this money to buy stuff for my 2yr old!

First off, I'm a seller on eBay. So I decided to use Mercari as well.
Its very easy. I've bought quite a lot through this site and I also sell a lot, I have all 5 star ratings.
As a seller, you get paid once the buyer confirms they received their item- to prevent the buyer from being scammed, and they have up to 3 days to do so. Also, mercari does not accept returns once you've rated your buyer/seller, that's in fine print, when you rate it confirms the sale is complete.
Once, I did not receive an item as a buyer, and I got a refund for it right away when I reached out to Marcari. The only thing to look for is the ratings for the sellers- read their reviews. I've had absolutely no troubles at all as a buyer and a lot of success as a seller.

The website does not work properly, returns are not processed by the website, there's no one to contact to solve problems, there is no support, tried to enter return but the system will not accept it even though it was timely. This company and website is a complete scam stayaway

Bought an item while on vacation, came home after your pathetic 3 day return window and now you wont even give me the option to return my item that doesnt work on the year model stroller that it says it does. Your site is crap!

My seller and I both agreed to coordinate a return, and Mercari has been completely unhelpful for an over $200+ purchase. They said I would get a return label in 2-3 days but it has been 2+ weeks and they do not have any phone number or online chat to talk to them through. I send countless emails, and they don't respond to my request before closing out the request... do not waste your money here. It would be better to buy from another site. This site and its customer service is HORRIBLE and UNRESPONSIVE.

Mercari has terrible business practices. If you buy an item and have an issue like the seller misrepresenting the item, the seller can delay communication through the Mercari messaging system and run out the 3 day return limit timeline. Once the 3 day limit runs out they pay the seller, take their fee and you are stuck with the item. They also then automatically give both the buyer and seller positive feedback. What a scam of a way to run a business. Use eBay, FBMP and OfferUp because you will have a much better chance with those buy/sell platforms. Unlike Mercari they will not lull you into a false sense of protection for your transaction.

I ordered and paid for a pair of mbt shoes, a week later the lady had sold them to some one else. I ordered another pair of same kind of shoes, on the 3 day they were suppose to be shipped the lady canceled the order. Both times the orders were paid for. It takes up to 10 days to get your money back on each order. No shoes no money! I am very disgusted i needed my shoes

I purchased a set of apple AirPods 2nd generation for my daughter for Christmas. They did come sealed and everything looked ok but we were having firmware issues so we had the Apple store look at them only to find out that they are counterfeit. They are really good counterfeits according to apple but none the less they are counterfeit.
I went on the site and the seller is gone. He had sold numerous of these and now all the sales are deleted.
Of course Mercari says that the sale was final after three days and they can't do anything. Horrible that they will allow people to sell counterfeit products and won't even try to correct the issue. Hopefully apple files a lawsuit against Mercari. They have my AirPods as proof and I have the proof Mercari sold the items
Mercari even went as far as telling me to relish the item if I didn't want it any more. Really? Realist a counterfeit product that I don't even have anymore?

I was really appalled when I take the time to research an item I like, decide to purchase it, the payment goes through. Then for no reason the buyer decides it's not for sale? I was not given a reason! I tried twice asking Mercari what was the reason they replied back with an answer to the previous item I ordered which I had no problem with that. Do they thoroughly read the fine print, I guess not! How can they let sellers list items, then just let them pull the listing after the order was placed. It just wasn't right! I was really disappointed!

As others mentioned, stay away. Customer support is non existent. That's fine if you don't ever encounter any problems. Buyers can literally rip off sellers by making false claims and returning different items or nothing at all.

I received Christmas dishes the day before Christmas. Part of the dishes were broken or chipped and the shipping box was extremely damaged. I sent pictures of the broken dishes on the day that I received the dishes, but was informed that they wanted pictures of all of the dishes. Due to family illness I was not able to provide the pictures until roughly 10 days later which I explained to them thru my e-Mail. The day I sent pictures I was informed that my claim had been denied and the funds were sent to the seller. So I have incomplete set of broken dishes and out over $90.00. I WILL NEVER ORDER from them again
Tip for consumers:
Do not purchase anything from them

I was a seller on Mercari for a few months and had a good experience when I first started. Later down the road I had an issue with an item I sold being marked as delivered to the wrong address (a mistake on USPS's part). The item ended up arriving to the buyer but Mercari did not want to give me my money, so I was out both the item and the money. When I contacted customer service about this, they said to get the internal tracking information from USPS confirming it was delivered and then they would release my funds. After several emails and phone calls back and forth with USPS, I finally got the internal tracking information. When I provided this information to Mercari, they changed their story and said that they could not provide me with the funds.
Overall I would not recommend selling on this horrible app with the worst customer service ever. They will try to nickel and dime you and change their policies as they please, especially after increasing the selling fees.

I used mercari a few times, the last time was, well, the last time. The item was unusable ( an outside micrometer that the thimble wouldn't turn) the seller agreed to a refund yet Mercado would not allow it. After a week of back and forth they still refused. How can a still photo show something won't turn? I submitted a photo of the sellers agreement but that wasn't enough. Beware purchasing from this site. You have no recourse as they have your payment info in their possession!
Tip for consumers:
Their return policy is up to them not the seller

I was sent a fake airpod & was then unable to request a return because the item "didn't qualify" and then they suggested I relist it instead. Honestly Mercari sucks, buyer protection isn't really a thing & they're only out to make money. I was unable to even speak to a person from the support team.

Costumer service is horrible and they monitor your private chats. When your get not support about missing packages ( I'm currently missing two with no refund in sight) it's pretty hard to justify higher prices, invasions of privacy, and ultimately money wasted on undeliverable packages. I switched from posh because Mercari has a lower % cut but it shows in the way they treat their costumers. I can't recommend this app.
Tip for consumers:
Be careful

I have been a 5 star great seller for over a year. I had over a hundred custom listings. I took photos of everything and listed it. I was BANNED FOR NO REASON. Sent an email saying I was selling counterfeit items. I was selling makeup silicone applicators that I bought from China, yes, but had them AT MY HOUSE and shipped FROM MY HOUSE. In the US. Sent an email to "customer service". They didn't care, I got an automated email back saying I am indefinitely suspended.
I was pretty upset about this. It is unfair. So I created another account with my husband's information and that got banned as well.
F you Mercari. I see dozens of sellers that are clearly from Japan, that have stock photos and you don't seem to care? But you'll delete legitimate stay at home mom's trying to make some extra cash for their family? Thanks..

I've been buying and selling from Mercari for a few years now, and I had the problem back then as I do now so I guess Mercari doesn't want to fix anything. The issue is deadbeat sellers, people that will post and not ship, either cancel real quick because they think they put the price to low because it sold to fast, so they cancel and repost at a higher amount, or you have people that just never ship. Unlike Ebay, Mercari has no way to rate these people, you can only rate AFTER a positive transaction, so if an order gets cancelled there's no way to rate the person to let other people know to stay away from them. It's not like you can really fabricate the situation because Mercari can see all this, they can see the quick cancellation, they can see the cancellation due to seller inactivity. Best just to stick with Ebay, it's super annoying and frustrating especially if you are trying to buy a gift someone and get excited about it only for it to never be shipped.

I have sold on Mercari for a couple of years, I have 500+ positive feedback ratings as well. Quality Customer service has completely changed as they've grown, it's horrible now! I recently purchased a pair of Madewell jeans for $100 from a buyer that had 4 feedbacks that stated her home was smoke free. The jeans were delivered with the strongest odors of smoke and moth balls, it was disgusting, so bad clearly she smoked! Since I spent $100, I contacted Mercari for a return. Mercari's response was ridiculous! "Because it was damage that couldn't be photographed, there was nothing they could do" I requested an escalation to management, only to be ignored after 3 attempts!

I don't understand why I, the buyer can't review the authenticity card for my purchased item until I complete the rating of seller. (Once completed sale is finalized). The Authenticity photo DOES NOT match my purchased item. I purchase a purse but Authenticity has a photo of a card wallet?!?!?!

If your package is damaged by postal they will automatically say insufficient packaging to prevent you from being credited your money. So you lose your time effort and receive your product in a worse state than before. Never use their labels. Always use your own so you can claim it yourself. Mercarri has alot of vague and specific unrealistic packaging requirements to prevent crediting your money even though your packaging was great and you have 5 stars with many reviews. This company does not care about their sellers. The fees are waayy too high now.

I purchased a bikini described as used only twice in good condition. When it came, it was in very used condition with much pilling, covered in sand, discolored, basically unwearable to me. It was in "fair" condition at best and none of these "cosmetic flaws" were disclosed as Mercari policy states they should. I contacted Mercari the day I received the item requesting a return and they denied it claiming it didn't qualify, and promptly completed my transaction! I couldn't even leave feedback for the seller so this girl is free to scam again knowing Mercari will protect her. Everyone stick to Poshmark. They're fees are high but they are very committed to protecting buyers.

Beware of the seller campthrift! Seller had several lots of Manson t-shirts and I contacted through chat to see if the lots could be combined into one for one price. He agreed to the price and said he would combine the lot that night. Five days later with me sending messages everyday I finally ask him what's going on. He responded back that he agreed prematurely and that the price was too low. Then I contacted mercari support to see if anything could be done. I got the answer back that bulk deals are at the discretion of the seller and that there was nothing I could do. I love mercari and until now have had no problems. I find the lack of support saddening and will probably not use the app as much. All I can say is be on your guard and don't except support to offer the least bit of help.
