Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I agree that Mercari must fix their feedback system...
I want it fixed for a different reason. I have had far too many purchases, where sellers with an inaccurate "5-star rating" were terrible! And ultimately, I didn't even get to rate them after the sale to help correct it.
It is terrible than so many sellers on Mercari get away with being terrible sellers, selling fake or fraudulent items, and straight up lying when they describe their items for sale!
They can do this without worry, because Mercari only allows the 3-days to give feedback, and doesn't allow any feedback scores for cancellations or returns.
The 3-day feedback requirement is ridiculous! Most times it takes longer than that just to ensure an item (Bose, Apple, Beats, etc.) is authentic, or that the "New" item's warranty has not already expired. Or, the buyer may be out of town, and cannot rate in time.
And the biggest issue with feedback/review ratings- Mercari does not allow them for returned or cancelled items!
First off, "cancelled" and "returned" are not the same, but Mercari processes them all as "cancelled." Even if the item was sold, then returned 2 weeks later.
Most selling sites describe the two words:
- ***Returned items*** have shipped, been received, and because the item did not arrive as expected (i. E. damaged, fake, dirty, used, etc.), they are returned with Mercari's (or other site's) approval after verifying it is not as described.
- ***Cancelled Items*** were never shipped, because of many reasons. But, many of those reasons are due to the seller being terrible and not shipping the item. Reviews should possibly be allowed for cancelled orders (if done because of seller's negligence, dishonesty, laziness, etc.).
Both cancelled and returned orders can and usually are because of a poor seller. So, that is when a feedback rating is the most important! If everything was as described, shipped in moderate amount of time, and a friendly/neutral seller- a feedback rating is far less important than if the order was cancelled or returned!
Mercari must fix their feedback rating system, or the amount of poor sellers will continue to increase!

I tried making an account w/ Mercari so I could save a page, for a product that I'm looking to buy. Everything went smoothly until I put the wrong code sent to my phone. I put the number that texted me rather than the actual code sent because I'm an idiot. Now they wont let me finish making the account, cant use my Google acct or FB acct, apparently they can't find an email that matches either accts? Uhh wtf does that even mean? I use my email to log in to BOTH accounts & BOTH accts are active. They seem to be bigger idiots than me. Oh & I cant use a different email w/ my phone number because even though the acct DIDNT complete or go through, they SAVED MY PHONE NUMBER. What a POS website. I'll stick to Ebay. Thanks for nothing.

Set up a Mercari account. Had two boxes of bulk items I had acquired and figured this site would be a nice change from Ebay to liquidate. No within two days I had been verbally assaulted by some goon claiming I rip people off my price wasn't fair, I was the reason his business went under. He then proceeded to make me the funniest low ball offer on the whole box of items. The weight is 28 pounds. He offered half of what it would have cost me to ship. I engaged and told him the reason he lost his job is because of the way he talks to people and to be gone cheap skate. He then proceeded to use another account and harass me and call me names. Mercari moderaters only stepped in when he told me to die. He could call me names though? The moderators are laughable and the scammers are rampant on this platform. Now I understand why Ebay has so many policies in place. I have since returned to them and have a greater appreciation for the regulations and guidelines. Please use caution when using this platform unless you like being called names and abused by buyers and sellers alike. Their moderation and filters allow losers to by easily bypass them to make threats of violence and verbal assaults easy on their platform without any repurcussions! Don't bother responding Mercari you weren't there when I needed you most and have since deactivated my account. Also btw your commercial you air with that lady selling her waffle iron is stupid and reflects perfectly on your garbage platform!

Seller didn't bother to ship for 3 days as rules require: then said a snow storm is coming and it will be another week. I asked to cancel and they ignored me. Macari by rules, is supposed to cancel order and issue refund in 24 hours after cancellation request if shipper did not ship item.
Also the staff is very nasty messaging you, I told them my bank went ahead and issued my refund, and you have to pay my bank back for dispute because I don't have to item or want it. And the seller didn't follow rules shipping within 3 days. The site staff messaged me and said they will issue me a refund in another 8 days and I said ok. (My bank will take the refund from me) I said ok.
But the staff is unprofessional and not on task. So I don't recommend buying here. If they don't ship within 3 days or by 3 days your bank can dispute the charge as fraudulent and put your debit purchase refunded back to your card.
Don't buy here stick to eBay. They are very unprofessional behind their home computer or where this lady is. They don't even have an active phone number. Call your bank to get quick refund. They are not protecting buyers and allowing sellers to ship when they feel like it. That's not what you signed up for… that's unfair practices and unprofessional. Get out of there just delete your account.see attachments. The seller tried to say I didn't buy item on march 1st. Always green shot if you're going to shop here at this 3rd rate app. They are very tacky very unfriendly staff who ever she is behind the computer logged in communicating with buyers. We are the reason the site exists. The buyers are most important. Not the hired staff or tacky sellers. Sellers are done a dozen. Inflation is coming worse so don't count on high sales. I personally hope justice is served for this sites owner. We are going to report them to a government overseeing their activity online for fraudulent practices. Disgusting

I place an order with this company, which is from the vendor CHICKDUCK
after the order was received I get 72 hours to request a refund or post a complaint.
I ordered an Epson printer for 50.00, and once it arrived I took it out of the box and plugged it in (installing brand-new inks that cost 60 that are now not reusable) the printer did not work. I did all the troubleshooting recommend by Epson and ran a printer test, and nothing printed, blank pages, it did not work. I tried to go on to their website to file a complaint, I filled out the pages but the webpage would not let the submit page click thru. They have 72 hours for you to file a return request, I received the printer on Friday the 3rd, I tried to use it on Saturday and then tried to submit the request it would not go thru, I tried to call them and they are closed on the weekend. I called them first thing Monday morning and my 72 hours had passed there is nothing they can do for me, so they took my money for a broken printer, I cannot leave a review because it is after the 72 hours nor can I contact the seller. I want my money back 72.00

don't buy anything that needs to be working, 72 hours is not enough for you to test and use an electronic item, especially if you receive the product on a Friday afternoon

I tried selling on Mercari for about 4 months ago. I had great experience as a buyer and seller. I wish I had used this app much sooner! Easy to post, offer discounts to those who like, your products have a chance to be shown on similar items, you get alerts of new likes, clean and easy interface. Seeing suggested similar products helps me in pricing my items. You can actually see how many people have liked an item and offer discounts. Daily you may offer for up to ten items discounts, it's optional of course.
I put alerts for items I want to buy and get them. Very easy to transfer the money to my bank.
I sell on other apps as well: Poshmark is too slow to sell, too much energy wasted in promoting, last year I had one sale!
The other apps I sell are OfferUp, where you sell locally and you have the option to ship. The next one is Letgo and Close5 selling locally, slow as a snail, but I like to have local presence. I am On Depop, I don't really like that, not a single sale for the past six months I have been there.
Overall, my number one place to sell is Mercari. Sorry to read the bad experience others are having.
A note regarding Poshmark: I had a girlfriend sell jeans for someone, and she had very bad experience. The buyer didn't like that it was professionally shortened, so the angry buyer cuts from the seams and returns! In the description she always has all the measurements, why would anyone be angry and cut and return? Did it fit or not? So it's a problem if you have someone ruin your item and return it. Specially if you try to do a favor for a friend to sell their stuff!
Luckily I helped her in mending the jeans. Once I heard that, I took down my expensive items off Poshmark. Recently I became Poshmark Ambassador and I am getting a lot of followers (two weeks now) but it has yet to translate to sales... let's see how this year will be there.
In the meantime, I am concentrating my energy on Mercari.

You have to do your own homework and when you are trying to check if seller is legit or not only asking for Facebook profile they will accuse you of doing business outside of mercari and closed your account. Basically you can't check if the seller is legit person or a scammer, mercari are reading your msg and they will use their assumptions to ban you! They let sellers sell counterfeit without screening and check for authenticity I've seen many counterfeit items sold same price as authentic items and sellers claims it's authentic with fake Chinese receipt or stolen receipt but mercari never check or screen listings their shipping label insurance doesn't even cover full final price sale. A few sellers I see straight up said her item is authentic with receipt lol Chinese counterfeit receipt or got their bag authenticate by sending pic of authentic bag they found online most likely stolen from legit sellers only making sure their serial number and date code match which is not difficult nowadays for Chinese counterfeiter to produce same serial code or date code with high end luxury items. Then those pos sellers sells these counterfeit as authentic, but no no no buyers have no right to investigate because mercari want to eliminate the responsibility part as much as they can. Poshmark on the other hand they charge higher fee but anything over $500 sellers have to mail the item in to be authenticate first before the item is sent to the buyer.
So Mercari gtf out of this country if you want to do business here you need to protect consumers as well you can't be greedy and only protect those thief you get your 10% from! Your dignity is so low just for 10%

If u really want my advise stay completely away from this jerks for they do is rip you off your sales. They have insiders plotted in as buyers to steal from sellers then they ban you saying you sell counterfeit items. I recently started selling here and in two weeks I sold 11 items but there was buyer named Gurpreet Amelia Kaur, who purchased a Burberry scarf then received item and never rated for two days then finally responded item not as described. Despite several attempts, customer service granted her refund and I never received item. This buyer then posted my item for sale twice more than she bought it and I immediately reached out to the team and they did nothing but shut down my account claiming I displayed a counterfeit item for no just reason and come to find out the person responding to me from the team has the same last name as my buyer and they allowed her to list item as Not Sure Of Authenticity! That means they sell you all counterfeit items, use sellers by setting their families to act as buyers, don't pay you then shut down your account... STAY AWAY THEY ARE THIEVES

I have bought so many things on this app. Went well and smooth most times. It just all started the last 3 purchases. The first 2 of those never arrived they got lost in the mail. No problem I got fully refunded because it was no one's fault beside the mail company. But this last purchase I made was for a barbie dollhouse. I had never been treated so poorly by a seller JUST because I request a return for a refund. The house advertised that I paid for was not in any condition as described or looking like the pics. So seller said she ship 2 different boxes. I just received the first one and it's the main whole house structure. It's broken at many places on the structure of the house and it's filled with dead bugs and dirt. The second box with missing parts are the top floor and supposedly all the dolls and furniture accessories that were shown on all seller's pictures. Have not received that second box yet.
I politely asked to get a shipping label to send it back to seller because I said If I knew it was broken I wouldn't bought it in the first place. Usually normal professional sellers on here would review the pictures I sent them and would simply do the right thing.
Not in this case. In no occasion I misspelled or came out not knowing English. But my first name is pretty much Asian. This seller wrote me insults, discriminated me, bullied and called me names. I was baffled and shocked I wrote Mercari to see if they could please do something about this behavior and they simply dismissed the seller's behavior towards me even happened but they did offer that I can ship it back for full refund. I'm not asking for much but at least acknowledge the fact that this is unacceptable and not let their sellers behave this way when they are themselves in the wrong to begin with.
I can't believe this is happening and I'm certain it's not the first time this seller treats their unhappy buyers this way.
