Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I've never had an online buying experience as maddening and generally unethical as with Mercari. I purchased what I thought was a painting for $200. A beat-up, moldy cardboard print arrived. I immediately contacted the seller, no reply. I thought, fine, they must be out, I'll begin the return process as this product was not worth $2 let alone $200. I had to answer a questionnaire as to why I wanted to return this item vs here's the information you need for the return. The information then goes to a caseworker (some random person, possibly at lunch also texting with friends, working on the side for Mercari) to determine the viability of the claim? I thought, OK, whatever, this is not what I thought I was ordering, they'll see that and the return will be processed. Instead, I received a "the seller met their criteria and we cannot issue a refund" notice. I was genuinely taken aback by this response. This piece of garbage has actual mold on it, for $196! Essentially, Mercari is a gambling site. If you don't get what you ordered, too bad. I then begin a long string of emails with random people at Mercari with various titles communicating in the same infuriatingly rehearsed manner "We really appreciate your understanding in this manner and we're sorry it didn't work out for you". On a few occasions, it was recommended that I participate in an unethical reselling of this product, mold and all, to someone else through Mercari? Just pass the problem along? As I said to one of the many people (who was probably watching television during the email exchange), "this experience is not unlike being aggressively cut off in traffic, the other driver mouthing the words "I'm sorry" whilst simultaneously giving you the finger. Mercari is an AWFUL place to deal with. I truly feel like I was stolen from, in plain sight.

IT IS VERY HARD TO GET ASSISTANCE, PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ACTIVE ON THE SITE FOR MONTHS AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY MESSAGES ARE STILL ALLOWED BY MERCARI.

Well, I just started with Mercari about two weeks ago. I had downloaded their app over two years ago, but had always sold on Poshmark. Poshmark was doing kind of the same thing with the buyers claiming the items were damaged or not what they ordered, and they would always give them a refund under any circumstance, even if you had proof showing them that they were lying. But now, thankfully, they actually listened to their sellers and will let the person keep the item, they get a refund, and then the seller still gets their payment.
I think Mercari should be a little more like Poshmark in this way... like, actually listen to the people who are making them all this money? It might help drive up sales just a little bit, don't ya think?
I'm really worried... I sold a few items on Mercari in the short two weeks I have been listing items, and so far, guess what? No ratings yet... I'm worried they're just going to do exactly what everyone is saying here... ask for a refund and they'll just give it to them WITHOUT paying the seller? It is false advertisement to say, "Hey, if you sent this item as described, you are guaranteed a payment." Well, how do you prove that? Pictures right? Because our phones have automatic time stamps that have the date and time on them, that should be enough, right?
I really wish I would've read the reviews before I got started with them... At least I still have my Poshmark account, but they charge WAY too much for shipping and 20 percent is awful, which means people overcharge for their items to make up for the loss in shipping and their fees, and the shipping cost seems to be rising exponentially. Why can't we just have an honest company out there?
I guess for now I'll just stick with Poshmark if Mercari rips me off, but be certain, I will submit a report to the BBB. Ugh!

For anyone ever thinking about selling on mercari; don't. Let me tell you a little story. Things were going great, I was finally selling and getting all 5 star reviews. I decided to buy something from another seller. They were designer jeans I'd had before so I knew they would fit. I purchased. They show up, and they're not the same item as pictured. They're 2 sizes smaller, a different color and had damage not listed. I was very nice and reached out for a return. The seller refused the return. Mercari sided with them. So I decided to dispute the charge with my bank. I felt it was not right I didn't receive what I paid for. Well, 24 hours later my account is locked. This was the 19th of May. Mercari has forced me to cancel my dispute, is holding the funds from the money I've earned, and stopped responding to unlock my account. I've spent hours, over 45 messages to mercari, 4 calls on the phone with my bank, and still nothing. I was forced to cancel the dispute AND they still kept my account locked. The phone number they use is not real. I've had friends in different states try it. There so nobody to reach out to. You send a help message and days later, maybe get a response. 99% of the time it's and irrelevant bot response. Screenshots are from when I actually got a person. Even worse customer service!
I've contacted and filed a report with the BBB and at pissed consumer. The worst part is, while you're account is locked, they will still sell your items but you won't get the money! I figured out how to put my shop on vacation so they can't do that but not before 2 items sold. If you don't ship them your seller rating drops automatically. The last picture is what happens when I try to deposit my money.
Moral of the story, don't use them. I'm so upset because
1. I need the money.
2. It took months to finally start selling and built up reviews.
3. I'm just being bullied by mercari at this point and given the run around.

I recently purchased an item from a Mercari seller. It had been sometime since I purchased and item and did not notice that I still had my old office address as shipping address. My item was delivered Friday afternoon. I was not able to pick it up until Monday because I work late and the building is closed on the weekend. I did not have a chance to fully inspect the headset until Tuesday evening. It did not turn on immediately so I thought it may need to be charged. I noticed that it would not turn on after 3 hours of charging. Then I noticed that the only way I could get it to work was by leaving it plugged into the charger? On Wednesday, I attempted to submit a return request (defective item) through Mercari only to find out that Mercari automatically closed my purchase on Monday! They said it was because a buyer only has 72 hours after delivery of an item to request a return. If the buyer does not indicate a response after 72 hours, Mercari automatically closes the purchase and releases the money to the seller. I messaged them about the time frame and how I could not even pick up my item because of the building being closed over the weekend. They just replied reiterating their '72-hour policy'. I responded that they should at least extend to 5 or 7 days to allow for weekend and holidays. They replied again with how they understood that I was unhappy with their response but again quoted their '72-hour policy'. When I tried to respond with another 'rant', I find that Mercari AUTOMATICALLY marked that issue as 'Resolved' and suggested I respond to their customer service survey. Your response is limited to 1-5 stars and comment is limited to 100 characters? Instead, I just sent another email to support and advised that I am cancelling my Mercari account and limiting my online purchases to other major online markets who provide better customer service.

Very unfair return policy. I am suspecting that their customer service reps are 'AI' reps instead.

I recently bought a G shock watch on Mecari. 5 weeks later the seller filed a missing package report. 4 days later I get the package mailing barcode slip that was on my package and it was in a US postal letter envelope which said " Damaged received EMPTY" THE WATCH HAD BEEN STOLEN, while in transit to me. I went to my post office and they said that the seller must file a claim if they purchased insurance, or if they mailed it Priority mail. I tried to contact Mecari and they said since tracking shows it was delivered THERE IS no problem. Case closed with a big nice bow! I called the *******482 Mecari customer service line 2 times and left a message as this is the ONLY OPTION AS THERE IS NO LIVE OPERATORS AVALABLE! I went to the Mercari Help center on their site 2 times and left messages. Mecari BOASTS their buyer protection saying "we got you covered" This is a BIG FAT LIE! Mecari should say "We have our assets and money covered"" You me and everybody else is out their money if your package gets stolen while in transit to us There is NO BUYER protection. Mecari is a tight fisted money making firm with NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL Buyers be ware! C 11/29/21 3 pm PS They only allow and post the POSITIVE FEEDBACK THEY DISCARD the Negative feedback

Ordered an advent calendar. Seller sent me a box of xmas ornaments. She acknowledged her mistake. Mercari on the other hand are stupid. They acted like I was trying to return something because I didnt like it. Threatening me to return the item within 3 days durning Thanksgiving after I told them I was going out of state. So they extended it and said that I had one day after returning home to send crap back or they were keeping my money. Meanwhile. None of this was my fault. I had to pay to ship it back bacause I dont have a printer. Dont want one. So when I sent a pic of the return label and told them they owed me 16 $ for the shipping. They got all $#*!ty... how dumb are they.?. Well the items I received were items she sold for 25 $ amd my item was 50$. So if I kept the stuff she sent. Shouldnt it only be 25 $... no. Not those dumbasses. I'm going to my bank and blocking the payment. I'm sobover them. They also allow fake pandora to be sold and that report button doesnt work. They are scammers along with their scammer sellers

It was my first purchase and my last. After the tracking info never updating beyond "Waiting on seller to ship", I tried with no avail to communicate with the seller. The support system is a complete joke and nothing but canned auto-responses followed by canned "Your issue is resolved" emails. My inquiries were never resolved. Furthermore, once your issue is tagged as "resolved" there is nothing more you can about your issue on the website. Not even an option for "My item was never received." Then the seller marked the item as shipped and received. This status change eliminated my ability to make additional inquiries about anything regarding the item. I was prompted to leave the seller a review, but I could only do so if I check the box as item received. Whether or not the website is legit or not remains to be seen, but the sellers have all the cards to take your money, ship nothing and then mark your item as shipped AND received. AVOID THIS WEBSITE LIKE COVID, BECAUSE COVID WILL BE THE EXCUSE MERCARI.COM WILL AUTO-RESPOND WITH WHEN YOU INQUIRE ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS WITH YOUR ORDER.

This is a terrible website they allow sellers to promise you something then they turn around and cancel it after you made the purchase jack up the price and sell it to someone else after they sold to you. They also allow sellers to sell broken items and refuse refunds. Also sellers have a certain amount of days to ship and a lot of them do not ship st all making you wait and request a refund I mean if your going to list it you need to sell it. I ordered something for my daughter she was so excited about it and the seller cancelled the order didn't message me then I find the item was relisted minutes after she sold it to me communicating with me that she would ship it out Tuesday. Then the next day I got a notice she had cancelled the item relisted at a higher price and sold it. This type of stuff should be illegal. Another time I purchased an item and a lady messaged me said she would ship and I waited a weeks messaged her she never got back to me so Mercari cancelled the item. The problem with these is it doesn't allow you to rate the sellers unless the purchase is made and delivered so you can't warn others of the seller unreliability or dishonesty. This company allows anyone to sell anything and it can arrive broken and if you dont rate them they still get paid anyways. I ordered a gift for a friend and it arrived broken I tried contacting the seller they responded with sorry it was sold as is and no that was not in the description so they got paid and Mercari refused to refund of return my item. I am just sick and tired of the way they operate they are a dishonest company and allows liars and thief's and scammers to be a part of it. I really think they should allow rating whether or not your purchase went through.

I ordered my dad 3 Cincinnatti Reds bobbleheads from Mecari for Christmas, They came in a box that was taped up so I wrapped it and he opened it up when we celebrated Christmas as a family. ALL THREE BOBBLE HEADS WERE WRAPPED SO POORLY THAT ALL THREE WERE BROKEN. One was completely broken in half, one was missing a bat and his foot was broken and the third ones face was broken. This was a gift for my dad and when I called they refused to refund my money or replace the broken bobble heads because it was not within three days of receiving the package. Why would I open the box, it was a gift. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU AND THEY PACKAGE SO TERRIBLY THAT THE MERCHANDICE WILL BREAK. I am so disappointed and will never order from Mecari again.

Beware buyers and sellers, MERCARI is a RIPOFF scam!
This company (APP) marked my items as sold, sent me shipping labels via email, I shipped the items, the moment the buyer picked them up they canceled both accounts. I paid $6 more for verified signature since my items we worth $2800, still they are refusing to pay me.
I have proof of purchase and full payment to Credit Card companies of these items!
I have emailed them, called them, nothing. It has been a month. The "Customer Service" rep and the "Compliance Team" person all one person pretending to be two different people.
I have done a lot of internet research, MERCARI has complaints, petitions and consumer affairs complaints againts them in the thousands. They have illegal tactics like asking for your Social Security number, they keep buyer and sellers money with no explanation.
This is illegal. No one has the right to keep your money it must be given back.
I urge anyone that has had a problem with MERCARI to contact federal trade commission (you will get to talk to a real person at the FTC within 3 to 5 minutes of waiting on hold) (unlike MERCARI--who never answers the phone or an email) and Internet crime3.org. (IC3.ORG)
The more people that file complaints the faster you will get your money back. Federal trade commission will get your money back.

I am new to Mercari. My 1st transaction went smooth, not one problem, however!, my 2nd transaction was a disaster. I saw a ring that Bruce316 was selling, I sent him a message regarding size availability, he answered quickly that he would check to see if the size I wanted was available... 3 days later I never heard from him so I had to send another message with the same question. He finally answered, he had the size, so I purchased it... 7 days later still no notification he had shipped it so I had to ask him if he was going to send it or if he had sellers remorse?. HE TOLD ME SOMEONE STOLED IT AT HIS JOB! And he had a bigger size if I still wanted it. I told him to cancel the order. I paid by Paypal and submitted a cancelation request. 5 MINUTES LATER HE SENDS ME A MESSAGE THAT HE MIRACULOSY FOUND IT! WOW! IT'S NOT MY JOB TO CHASE DOWN A SELLER! BUYERS BEWARE! I WOULD GIVE HIM ZERO STARS IF IT WOULD LET ME. HE DOESN'T DESERVE 1!

I recently sold a swimsuit on Mercari. It was a mismatched size, which I disclosed in the item description and showed pictures of the size tags. The buyer was unhappy with the swimsuit once it was received because the sizes were mismatched. Basically, she bought this swimsuit without reading the description or looking at the pictures, which is not my fault in any way. She asked me for a return, but I declined, as I did nothing wrong. She decided to file a claim with Mercari for a return. Mercari's return policy on their website says all sales are final, unless the item is damaged or not as described, which did not fit in this case as I was very clear in my listing. Despite this, Mercari forced me to accept her return, without even contacting me for my side of the story and obviously not even looking at my listing from which the suit was purchased. When I emailed them, the refused to help me at all. They said they couldn't tell me why this return was accepted and basically I was out of luck. They told me they were sorry the transaction didn't go how I wanted and offered me no explanation or solution. I've tried calling their customer service number and have waited on hold for over an hour over the course of the last few days and no one has answered. I decided to file with the Better Business Bureau to try to help me. I just wanted them to investigate my issue. No one would even look at my item listing to see I did nothing wrong. Every response just kept telling me to let them know if the return arrived in a different condition than I sent it. They refused to say anything else and closed the case. Mercari does not care about its customers. It advertises seller protection, but always sides with scammers with no investigation into the issue.
