Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I have sold few items on mercari.
I would pack them and ship them with the right weight and drop the off at usps with 0 issues. I never had teller at usps told me my item was over weight.
Example. I sold iphone which weight 1 pound and shipped with 0 problems and kept the receipt incAse mercari charges me additional due to wrong weight and i would even ask teller. Hey is my weight correct and she would say yes and i leave with receipt showing i didnt have to pay anything extra due to weight and when buyer gets the item and closes the transaction i get notification from mercari saying my item weight was wrong so they took 6.01$ from my money before i can transfer it to my bank. Without any invoice. And when i email them with pictures of the receipt attached showing 0$ Was paid at usps when i dropped off the item. They would simply ignore me and keep my 6$. They done this to me 4 times out of 5 items i sold. Also when u get paid. Money does NOT go to your bank. You have to transfer it from mercari and they also charge you 2$ for instant transfer. This app is full of thieves. DO NOT. DO BUSINESS WITH MERCARI. THEY ARE THE WORST. THEY STOLE OVER 25$ from me. I deleted the app. And back to using ebay. DO NOT USE MERCARI. IM

What I learned with my first (and probably last) experience with Mercari is that it is not a safe place to buy. And not because I think sellers there are all fraudulent and dishonest, but because Mercari's policies seem better designed to protect a bad, dishonest seller than a buyer in danger of being scammed. Mercari promises safety and protection to buyers but, in my experience, it provides none. You buy something that turns out to be nothing like it was described (as I did), or arrives broken or maybe never really worked... whatever the problem, Mercari makes it very difficult for the buyer to report or find help with the problem -- or perhaps more importantly to Mercari -- find a way to return the item and get a refund. And this is by design, starting with Mercari giving you very little time, only a few hours after your item is delivered to initiate a "request for a return" (which may or not be approved) and which includes providing pictures of the item as when it was first delivered (how many people have that?) and some such ridiculous requirements. Then you realize it is nearly impossible to find someone to contact and get help with your return request, you look for and find no way to report the problem or to get some information and guidance. Given the lack of support and how little time you're given for the return request (which may or may not be approved) and other complications, you might decide to take the loss and let the seller keep your money, but punish him/her with a negative review. And this is a choice, because at Mercari you can't do both... request a return (which may not be approved) and leave a negative feedback. This means many negative experiences are never reported, even though it is feedback that could warn others about a bad seller. So, if anything, it is not the buyer who gets the most protection at Mercari but those bad sellers who take his/her money. My experience has taught me Mercari is not a good and safe place to buy. And may be not a good place to sell either which is why I will stick with Ebay for now, where buyers do have some protection.

I'm a shopper and look for good reliable online stores. I'm usually pretty good at finding deals. Well until I purchased something from Mercari. Oh boy was I taken for a ride. The item (backpack) was advertised as an XL on the site. When the backpack came it was clearly NOT A XL but a classic standard size as the label said it was. I went to the website to make sure I wasn't losing my mind that the XL backpack's label would show XL and not classic. You only have 3 days to decide if you want to keep it so the merchant can get paid. Well due to this busy Christmas season I inspected the backpack on day 4 and immediately contacted Mercari explaining that the item was FALSELY ADVERTISED. I gave them the web site to see the 4 different sizes of the backpack showing them that I rec'd a smaller one not the XL as advertised. Mercari could CARE LESS that I didn't get what was advertised and Not standing behind the buyer. I wrote them 3 times and each time They DENIED me a refund …So everyone out there DO NOT BUY FROM THIS CORRUPT SITE.

I WANT TO GIVE ZERO STARS! Mercari is THE WORST SITE/APP I HAVE EVER USED! I am an eBay seller/buyer. They make it so easy! You put high end items to list, when you crate the listing they have a sliding scale of what they think you should sell it for! I sold something so cheap because they told me to when I put the item up for sale online, then showed me similar items that are on sale online compared to mine and for what price after I list it. People are making triple the money for the same thing I put up for sale. They advised me wrongly... They have cost me money. They make more money than I make on a sale! You sell something for $20 and u may get $12 of it! If I sell something on eBay for $20 I make the least $18. They steal your money with the high fees to list your item! EBay lets you list for free, and they shut your item down when it goes down to the lowest price, the reason they do that is if the price goes down to low, they can't make any money from the seller. This site is a scam! Will complain to the BBB so many complaints about this site! If you look for a phone number YOU WON'T FIND ONE to call them, I couldn't find one anywhere. There should be a phone number for customer service to be reached when any buyer or seller has has issues. They are stealing peoples money and they stole enough of mine! Bye, bye Mercari! I will wait for the pay back when we all sue you silly!

This was my first purchase at the site. It'll be my last, I suppose.
I ordered an item back in December 24. The mail carrier said it was "delivered" on Dec 29, but I didn't get the package at all. I asked people in my household & all my neighbors. No one saw anything delivered around the specified time. It's a gift of stuffed animals. None of my neighbors had young kids, so who would need to steal a bag of toys?
Then I called the local post office, visited the post office again in-person, reported missing mails. Nothing helps.
Before my 3-day rating expiration time, I contacted the seller. She responded to my messages before the rating time, but after that, she didn't answer anything anymore (well, 'cause she's technically off the hook now?).
I also contacted Mercari via the online message & email (Yes, I was desperate at that moment after exhausting all sources of help that I knew of). I got a store credit, but with a message saying that my house address maybe the problem because it isn't correct?! I used the same address with Amazon, Ebay & about 4 more online stores, and I didn't get trouble with the delivery! Which part of my address is not correct, if 6 stores can run through it & deliver correctly? I grew "OCD" enough to read through how I type my address on the profile. It's exactly the same with the previous 6 times that I did with the other stores?!
Luckily that my purchase isn't that expensive, and I did get a credit back from Mercari. However, It's not about the monetary loss here. It's consumer's trust that Mercari lost. I'm not even sure if I dare to use the credit to purchase anything next from the site. I have a "hanging" feeling that if I use it on another purchase, I won't get my item again.

Boy, Did I get ripped off, and Mercari's system is designed to cheat buyers and reward dishonest sellers.
Seller and especially Mercari Support really robbed me.
Purchased item, arrived with missing parts. Contacted seller (as required), notified seller. Seller agreed there were parts missing and promised to send out following day.
Seller never sent required parts.
3 days after I revieved first item, Mercari automatically gave seller a 5-star rating, disbursed, fumds, and blocked all future contact to seller.
I contacted Mercari, and CELLINE from Mercari refused to assist me, and said I had agreed to allow Mercari and the Seller to rob me.

But please be advised that when you created your account you've agreed to the Terms of Service of the app. This includes your funds being released to the seller when you rate the order after being prompted by the app that once rating the item the sale is final.

Overall I like Mercari. It is easy to list an item, and they only take a modest 10% commission or fee of the amount of the sale. But the thing I don't like is the potential buyers hitting the "Like" button. Now any Mercari seller or buyer know that when a seller gets a "like: about one of their listings, that is a cue from that buyer to "promote" or lower the price of that listing. I have played that game many times as a seller. I would see that someone "like" my item, and in order to entice them to buy it, I would lower the price a bit.
Lately that has not been the case. I would get a "LIke" and lower the price, only to see that the item still didn't sell. Now the price is lower than I wanted in the first place, and it starts all over again with another "buyer" liking the item and expecting you to lower the price again. So I would once again, lower the price, and the item would still not sell.
It is worse than running a garage sale, with everyone coming up to you with a item with a price tag on it and asking for money off.
But to make matters worse, Mercari won't let you lower the price to what you want, they tell you that you must lower the price between two different amounts, or no go, Now you can always just re-price it doing an item edit, but then Mercari doesn't promote it to all the buyers out there.
I am an E-Commerce seller and not someone who is just trying to clean out the basement. Maybe that's why I feel the way I do about MercarI. And if that's who you are, just trying to clean out your closet of unwanted items, maybe it doesn't matter to you. I think that sometimes there must be a bunch of teenagers hitting the like buttons just to make us all lower our prices, and then you never hear from them again.

This is an absolute great site to shop on. Very easy to become a seller as well I believe in a few years from now this site will be in direct competition with eBay. Plus if you have a problem with an item and you let them know your account is credited back immediately. It's just a perfect place to shop if you have kids and you need clothes if you want to buy them used and in good shape Clothes because they grow through them so fast this is your site you want to buy a Coach handbag this is your site their prices are better than any other site so far.
