Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
Wish I could say I purchased something. Both times I paid for an item the seller cancelled and had some cockamamie excuse.

This website only has protection for buyers and their customer service promotes fraud and dishonesty amongst its buyers. I never had an issue with them before as I have been a committed buyer and seller on Mercari since 2015 but my issue arose when I made a mistake on my end. I by accident ended up mixing two of my packages with the wrong shipping label resulting in two of my buyers receiving the wrong packages. I was immediately made aware of the situation when I received a message from one of my buyers telling me she got the wrong items. She ended up submitting a return request which got approved and honestly she was really kind about the situation and is sending me my items back, however the message I received back from Mercari is very unsettling. They told me that although a return request is approved that doesn't mean the buyer is required to send the items back and if they chose to keep the items I cannot do anything about it, which if that is true is messed up! I am lucky enough to say that I got a honest buyer but most people on Mercari are looking to scam sellers. I had no idea how poorly Mercari treated their sellers until I began doing research and found out the truth. I will no longer be selling on Mercari once this issue is resolved as I cannot risk being scammed by a buyer and not be protected by the Mercari team. Sad because I truly feel Mercari has the potential to be a good app for sellers and buyers, but as of right now it is not. Although postmark is much slower at selling items they truly protect their sellers and buyers, I would recommend switching over to that app instead until Mercari can fix their issues. Giving it two stars because it does have potential, but again their is no protection for sellers and that is a huge risk for me to take. I hope my other buyer is as honest as the other one and returns the items as it was items that were worth over $100 while she only paid $28 but who knows, if she decides not to be I will have to take the loss I guess since I am not protected by Mercari. If you choose to sell on Mercari beware of your protections and to who you sell to.

I listed a Michele diamond watch on Mercari and was contacted almost immediately someone wanting to buy it. When they tried to purchase it the transaction wouldn't go through saying my account hadn't been verified. Then I was sent an email saying I had to go to CVS or Walmart and get a vanilla Visa card with $210 on it and send them a picture of the front and the back of it and the receipt then the transaction would be able to go through. Stupidly I did this then the buyer said they completed the transaction to purchase the watch, then I get an email saying I need to get another vanilla card with $499 on it to prove I was a reputable seller... Then they would refund me the $210, $499 the $1500 for the watch... What kind of c*** is this? $210 was immediately taken off the Visa debit card and it wasn't Mercari. I just told the buyer forget it after I realized they were scamming me... Then the buyer continued to harass me saying they couldn't reverse the transaction not my problem contact Mercari... I deleted my ac ount. Then I started reading reviews that this is a scam they do then they hold your funds and will not release them... so for me to sell my watch they wanted me to give them over $700 what for? These are deceptive practices... Do not list any items on Mercari and if I were you I would not buy a product on Mercari they do not answer their phone, they just send you emails, all they want is more money... Just another scam..

I had an account with mercari and deleted it. Later, I made a different account, and tried to tranfer money to my bank account. An error on the app told me another account had that bank info. That's impossible because I deleted the old account. Now they want me to provide extremely personal info such as social sercurity number. They are holding my money, and taking a very long to respond to my messages. I tried to type my ssn into the app, but it claimed that it was wrong despite myself directly looking at my ssn card and carefully typing in the numbers. I got tired of messaging Mercari, so i called. I was asking many questions on the phone because i wanted my money and they were giving run around answers. They don't seem to understand to harm of holding someone's hard earned money for no good reason. I never raised my voice, and used appropriate langued, yet 2 mimutes into the call, Mercari hung up. I called again and was basically told I cant call to solve my problem, I have to email. They are currently still holding my money and put restrictions on selling and buying on my account. DONT SELL ON MERCARI, unless you enjoy $#*!ty customer service, gitchy and error filled sytems

I shipped an item, the item went out for delivery and they let the customer cancel the item WHILE OUT FOR DELIVERY! And I've lost my merchandise and my money! DO NOT SELL WITH THEM!

You can only talk to Customer Service via email. When I called the phone number it said that there was no live service for my area. I purchased an item from the seller (eric's funhouse). The item he sent me was damaged and not what was advertised. I messages directly to the seller and he told me just to toss it, and he would send me a new one. I contacted him on the day I received the item. I never heard from him so I asked her for a tracking number, but he didn't respond. I want to message him again to find that he blocked me. I contacted Mercari and they said they couldn't do anything because I had already rated my seller. Well, I didn't rate my seller, Mercari does that if you don't contact them directly after 72 hours of receiving the item. Mercari assumes everything is settled. I have contacted them on several occasions and they seem to all be robots. To allow such sellers to remain on their platform will definitely chase customers away. After looking through all of his reviews, it shows that he has deleted a lot of his feedback, so it only shows positive feedback. For Mercari to allow them to do this is a dishonest as it allows him to control his ratings. Please do not use this system. There are plenty of other places to purchase items that do give you customer service and can protect you from these shady dealers like Eric's warehouse.below is what eric's warehouse advertised. The orange and blue bows are what I received. The last is the message where he agreed to resend. I am not only a buyer, I am a seller on ebay as well. I have never received any negative feedback, and I am not allowed to modify any of my ratings.this guy should be taken off Mercari and Mercari needs to clean up its act.

I've never had any problems on here at all. (Thank Goodness!) I agree with Nancy M. On all the guidelines about the transaction.
I HIGHLY recommend YOU ask LOTS OF QUESTIONS BEFORE purchasing! I've had MANY sellers NOT respond. I asked the same normal questions to a seller and she blocked me immediately without even answering me, then right away updated her ad and remarked on my questions! Rude! I asked if her item was authentic, which come on, there are lots of knock offs out there! It is NOT acceptable for any seller to block a buyer just because they feel like it! I asked normal questions about the item and she, for whatever reason, decided to put a block against me! That's NOT acceptable!
Other than her and those who don't respond, I've had really easy, friendly transactions with fair prices. All items arrived exactly as pictured. All these items were in new condition! I'm very happy with all my purchases and happy with the sellers!
I've only had to contact customer service once about that seller who blocked me. They responded immediately. No big deal.
I've added my purchase pictures, seller's information, dates, and costs to share on the items I've bought.
I really wanted to sell on Mercari, but with all these horrible seller reviews, I'm absolutely horrified to even try! Why do those miserable losers have to go out of their way to ruin things for everyone? Shame on you! I have nice things to sell and DON'T want to get scammed! At least selling on Craigslist, I let them know I will only meet at the local police station! There's no internet police for these sites!
Just remember, ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING!
*As a side note* It's 2018, anyone can say anything, but if you don't have pictures of actual proof or lots of detailed information in a review, then I wouldn't really give it much consideration. Everyone has access to cameras and can give IDs and detailed dates and actual real information.
Tip for consumers:
Ask LOTS of questions BEFORE buying: any rips, stains, odors? Just because a label says Medium, it may really FIT like a small! Ask about FIT and not a label size! There are lots of knockoffs, ask about authenticity! Don't be afraid to ask for more photos if the seller only has one!
FOR MERCARI: You should issue your sellers a 3 Strikes Rule. If they fail to answer a buyer in a friendly and reasonably timely manner, they should be taken off the site after not responding to 3 buyers!
