I would give it 5 stars, but they added seller fees on top of paying taxes. A $9 item would earn you $3. Seems so unfair. But other than that, my items sell fast and I have made quite a bit selling on here.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I purchased an item for my daughter's birthday and when it arrived, the packaging and item smelled like cigarette smoke. I attempted to return the item, and Mercari denied my return request since I could not prove the odor issue in a photo, even after the seller had confirmed with me that they lived with a smoker. Mercari allowed the seller to be paid and suggested that I "resell the item".
Despite them claiming you can return items, when I requested a return I was denied even though the item was not as described by the seller. This was my first experience with Marcari and it will be my last.
Bought an instrument. Was damaged in transit or broken before. Asked for return. Said I qualify. Sent me a label. Spent time to package and drive 30mins to USPS for them to tell me it's too large... asked for another shipping label and they told me to pay for it... and they'll reimburse me... that's not how a legitimate co. Pany works in my opinion. I'm already out 400 and you want me to shell a 100 out or more... I don't throw more gas on a warm fire...
If you file any type of complaint for damages, be aware that Mercari DOES NOT allow partial refunds - even if you want to keep the item, expect Mercari to have you return the product. They make no allowances for partial damages. They want you to ship broken items and the rest of the product back to the seller (wrapped better than the seller sent it to you) for a refund. I have received numerous broken items (which is the seller's fault), but Mercari makes no concessions other than to return the product and get a refund. Absolutely not customer friendly!

I order a lot of home decor items. A lot of items are fragile and wrapped very poorly. Everyone's standard of secure shipping is not the same, so more training by company to their sellers should be provided. I ordered two porcelain candle stick holders. One came in ok, the other had numerous chips off the florals. But Mercari will not allow you to keep both holders at a discounted price. You need to return the full items shipped.
To the buyers complaining about Mercari:
If you used paypal, you have Paypal Purchase protection. File an 'not as described' claim within 180 days of your purchase or payment.
If you paid with a credit card, do a chargeback.
From start to finish, Mercari as a buyer platform was a horrible experience. I was able to find and place an order but from there it was all downhill. The seller failed to send the item and it took weeks to figure out how to cancel the order and get a refund. Their help center is completed convoluted; you'll waste considerable time figuring out how to maneuver through their circular help loop. They don't even get "unsubscribe" right! No unsubscribe option included with continued emails requiring you to go back to their Contactless "help" center then, instead of a one button process to unsubscribe, you'll have to hit about 30 buttons to turn off every single type of notification they could think of. Don't go near this site if you value your time and money.
I purchased an item and the seller waited his allotted 3 days to ship before cancelling the action. I was not given a chance to rate the seller. Then I find out if you dont rate the seller it auto rates them w 5 stars. Since i cannot rate the seller the app gets the bad rating.
Thought I would try Mercari alongside other popular Marketplaces like eBay, TCGPlayer and Facebook. I can say with 100% confidence Mercari is the worst of them all. After selling a single Pokemon card for $6, I was left with $4.73 after their fees - but it got even worse. They require tracking for everything and after paying $5.05 for the cheapest shipping option with tracking through USPS I was in the red for what should have been an incredibly simple sale. I would not recommend Mercari to any seller and am extremely disappointed by the platform.

I purchased 1 Pokemon slab from Mercari using a promotional discount code.
I am (well was) a new user to Mercari, I had sold 4 items, 3 of which were completed and the 4th was shipped. I was corresponding with a potential buyer on a large/heavy item that I had for sale. She and I were negotiating pricing via DM and in the middle of our discussion all my posts were suddenly deleted and my account was limited. After asking 4 separate times over a 3 week period as to what led to this, no one would/could give me an answer. It was only after threatening them with a lawsuit to release my funds that did they finally do so. I have yet to learn what I did that "violated" their policies. I wouldn't sell again on Mercari if it was the last online selling platform on earth. The last person that emailed me made a snarky/curt response: "if you return to this platform, your funds will be held indefinitely". To which I put them on notice that if they used my private information for any reason, I would prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

The fees that are charged to buyers and the sellers are outrageous! You don't make much money after selling and the price the buyer sees advertised goes up quiet a bit after fees and taxes. The shipping prices are more expensive than the post office and if you ship on your own, your out money if the buyer doesn't get the item within 10 days. Customer service is impossible to get ahold of and when you do they don't resolve your issue and basically say your on your own to figure out the problems. Would not recommend this site at all unless you find something you desperately need.
I purchased a tote, received email it was purchased, received email item would ship next day, another email about the shipping costs which were advertised as free, then queenfancypants the seller cancels the order. First and last time I use this site.
On November 30,2017... I had purchased something from mercari and said that my item was shipped and then I messaged the seller about my order and ignored my message and that same day, the seller cancelled my order! I can believe people actually do this. There´ś some sellers that ship your items and you get them but honestly there is some where they just cancel your order without giving an explaination
I have sold on Mercari for a couple of years and lately the buyers have gone nuts. Sell an item at 7pm on Thursday ship it Friday morning at 9 am, it arrives at 8 am Monday morning (71 business day hours from order) and the guy gives me 1 star because he wanted it faster! Geez! Mercari won't fix the rating and suggested I mail faster in the future. Like how have Superman deliver it?

Worst. They took my money. I paid for an item using their webpage and when the seller didn't ship the item and I asked for a refund, all they could they me was to wait. They literally stole my money. Avoid using this website.
Literally zero customer service. Please beware this website is full of scammers and liars both selling and buying on this website, and there is nobody to turn to for assistance. If you want to lose out on items and/or money this app is the one for you!
Worst company. Literally had my dad in the hospital with pancreatic cancer, received a broken train the seller admitted he never tested before selling. Said he felt bad with my dad and wanted to refund me. Mercari had to approve. Said they would as a "one time courtesy" if I sent pictures. So I did, of the train and of my dad in the hospital holding the son the train was for, said they showed the train was delivered and won't refund. They don't care about you. Good luck.
This site is complete bull$#*!! They are a fraud and a scam! Their customer service is complete $#*! and they will do everything to screw you over! Go anywhere else, buy and sell locally is need be, but this site is TRASH
I purchased an item. Paid the funds in to the holding account. The item was shipped and tagged delivered by FedEx. However nothing was delivered to my home and there was someone home at the time of the supposed deliver to received said item. Since FedEx says they delivered my package, I can't get my funds back. The funds go to the seller. Who will also be filing a claim with FedEx for reimbursement. So the seller will get paid twice and I am out my money and the item. Buyer beware!

If you purchase any item on this site and pay for it. That does not mean you will get that item. If the seller is offered more money even after you have paid, the seller will ship it to the other who offered more money. You will the. Have to wait a week for your refund. Customer service sucks as well!

I listed my item for sale and included pictures. Buyer received the item but asked for the sale to be cancelled due to "packaging issues". Mercari cancelled my item and let the buyer keep it and refused to provide pics of any issue. The buyer straight up scammed me and Mercari let them steal from me. Will never use again.
I ordered dishes from Mercari and they arrived broken. I cut my hand in the package it was so bad. Mercari required a dozen pictures and now wants me to mail them back to get a refund! I do not have a printer at home and they are recommending I go to a library to print the shipping label (our libraries aren't open!). Now they recommend I find a neighbor to borrow their printer. They can't mail me a label because they are an app based company is what the rep told me. It is ridiculous. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company.
Purchased a Dyson hair care system. It didnt work, took it to Dyson for repair. They advised the item was counterfeit. When I tried to contact the seller, Mercari blocks contact after 3 days. Called them, they say nothing can be done as it is after 3 days. Repeated contact, explaining that the seller is misrepresenting what they are selling, that this was counterfeit only led to the same answer. This is insane, they shelter a criminal with a policy that only hurts the buyer. Plenty of other places to buy in a much safer environment. Stay away

I was given a 10% off coupon through an email. I followed the email instructions and made a purchase through Mercari. The 10% was applied during the checkout and then I proceeded to the payment portion of the checkout. After my bank account was verified, they automatically charged me the full amount, without the 10% discount. I contacted them several times and they kept asking for the same info over and over. Finally, after over a week of constantly contacting them on this, they said that they simply can't retroactively apply a coupon. I was SCAMMED!

I'm a serious seller on eBay, but use Mercari when eBay is giving me a hard time about an item-- usually b/c they think it contains 'hemp' when it doesn't or something similarly stupid. Listing on Mercari is easy, but I find the actual transaction once the item has sold is a headache. A buyer has NEVER been able to leave a rating for me without having to message me multiple times to say Mercari 'won't let them.' And since you don't get paid on Mercari until the buyer rates you, that's a problem. By the time each transaction is complete the buyer and I have messaged each other so many times I might as well put them on my Christmas card list. I only use it when I absolutely have to, and I dread it.
Truly I am orry for those of you who have had a bad experiance with Mercari. I found out about Mercari in 2015. First, I was just buying, then i started selling a few things here and there. I'm retired however so i just sell to buy. I also have a ton of fun and get to meet so many nice folks.So on my part, I sure love it
