Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I paid $40 for merchandise that I never received! The seller never sent it and when I contacted Mercari about refunding the money I was charged. The rep said to contact them again from the email I purchased on and then they would see if they can help?! I actually was using the email that I received my purchase confirmation at. I was like…wait a minute but what does that have to do with you issuing a refund?! Buyer BEWARE! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM MERCARI! You may or may not receive what you pay for. Either way, Mercari doesn't appear to care!

I sold a jewelry and it was returned by buyer in an obviously intentionally damaged condition. Order was automatically taken down when it was delivered back to me. I filed a dispute and Mercari disapproved using a very scripted reply saying there was no evidence.

I had a 5 star perfect acct record and because i was shipping my items from my business i got kicked out the site?! I clicked the option pay for my own shipping and ordered made the order on my website and shipped to the customer... I NEVER HAD A CUSTOMER COMPLAIN. All 5 star reviews and then Mecari cancels my acct because they said they prohibit any form of shipment but from home? I dont get it. They are still making money they dont make money when someones ships from home?! They also gave no warning. This site needs to go under do not use them
I had an account for shopping. I tried to change my email in my account so I can sell. They wouldn't let me change the address or add a new one. They asked me to verify my account but I wasn't able to log in to do so as my password wasn't working. I reset my password and still couldn't login. I explained all this to them. Instead of helping me they shut down my account with no explanation. I set up another account but they shut that one down too with no explanation.
Purchased item, and had to sign up on mercari, to complete purchase. Once I gave them all my info they said item was unavailable. Worst site ever! Please respond to me about your lousy site.
HERETOSELL seller looks like a wanna be Kardashian... should have been the warning. I ordered a Tatcha silk canvas primer. Expensive about $52 dollars for 20 grams. I see a the item available for $40 which I thought was a deal. Was not aware of the grams of this product but had one picture and description 4 grams. As soon as I received the purchased, I realized I was scammed. Send pictures on how tiny the product was... but HERETOSELL knew what she was doing. I wasn't allow to resend for refund nor to give the seller a negative review for not informing she was selling a sample size. TATCHA does not even sell 4 gram of that product. Buyer Beware... read closely the description and avoid sellers that do not take refunds. I really encourage Ebay... they have their share of issues but buyer friendly! Avoid seller HERETOSELL. She has 5 star reviews. Such a scam!
Horrible horrible and the seller won't respond to you at all! No one answers the phone and it's HORRIBLE! Wish I would have read the reviews first I'm telling everyone I know to stay away from Mercari!
I've been selling for about 9 months. I was lucky for a while- but then got screwed. I've had a few issues come up and every time I asked for help it's a canned email response. The phone number this show is not correct and doesn't work. The only response you will get is an auto email. They will not help you. We were packing up boxes and labels got switched on accident. Unfortunately we used US postal. I couldn't stop the package. I emailed the buyer and said I had shipped the wrong thing and please just don't accept the package and return it. It was much more expensive item than her $5 purchase. I contacted the site many many times with the same auto response. Package arrived- buyer claimed it was wrong item which it was and Mecari auto bot told her to KEEP IT! UGH! I messaged and messaged and she refuses to send it back as it's worth much more than her $5 item- Mecair refunded her $5- and refuses to help ME! THE SELLER THAT GOT SCREWED! RUN! THEY ARE TOTAL CRAP!
I was selling just a lil but enough to buy my girls clothes through the app which was great due to deals. My sister had a baby and I told Eric about the app since baby's grow so fast it's more convenient to buy them clothes in great condition for a portion of it's price. She decided to get the app and on her first purchase both of our accounts were suspended. They claimed it was due to multiple accounts, suspicious payment and fraudulent activity. No more said, I tried to explain it was not my account and the payment looked suspicious cause obviously her account had her debit card not mine, again cause it was NOT my account. They simply sent a message stating they would not restore our accounts. I tried to set up another account with my husband's information and debit card (I am unemployed and this was my best way to get things for my girls so I was desperate) but I guess they blacklist my address because they suspended that account indefinitely due to suspicious activity no more said. The app is crap their customer service is no customer service but seems more like automated responses for certain transactions or questions asked when they are messaged. Otherwise there is a lot of people giving good deals, it's too bad they are so bad.
A seller sold a pair of boots that were a complete different color than pictured

She even apologized and said the lightening must be the reason... but she had no idea until I mentioned it really?
Anyways she offered to start a return right away and I being the ethical person believed her
But of course she was just counting down the hours because mercari automatically goes in the next day and gives the seller 5 stars and closes the case.
And pays the seller knowing full well I had already started a dispute
So they are behind the seller only and say once they have given the seller a rating (and everyone on mercari gets 5 stars) nothing can be changed
There is nobody to talk to and they eventually respond with a very robotic answer without referencing the matter at hand... the seller admitted fault!
They are very anti customer
They only support the seller
She lied she cheated she admitted fault and they gave her 5 stars and paid her
So buyer beware
If you are a gambler and like throwing out your money be aware there is absolutely no customer support
They are interested in getting paid. Period.
Scam is too kind a word and if I was able to give them less than 1 star I most certainly would

To many fake and flakey sellers on Mercari. To many times I bought items and sellers just don't send you anything and ignore all messages after 3-4 weeks nothing was shipped by sellers my messages are ignored. Zero help from customer service and what's worse you can't leave negative feed back of your experience. There for new buyers are left going through the same fake and stressful experiences as I have. After. So many weeks has passed and all your left is to cancel your purchases and have to wait 10+ days for a refund. Because your not allowed to leave a negative feed backs JUST STUPID!
DONT WASTE YOUR TIME SHOPPING ON MERCARI ITS NOT WORTH THE DRAMA AND STRESS YOU GET FROM BUYING FROM FAKE SELLERS!

Cosmetics if the seller sends it. Its a hit or miss to many times sellers on Mercari I feel they are just playing games and have zero intentions on sending your items.
And Mercari doesn't allow you to leave your negative feed backs. So other buyers get treated the same over and over again by the same sellers. NOTHING HAPPENS TO SELLERS WHO HAVE NO INTENTION ON SENDING ITEMS YOU PAID FOR!! ALL BUYERS CAN DO IS TRY TO CANCEL & HAVE TO QAIT 10 + DAYS TO GET YOUR REFUND!!!
I did a password re-set on April 3rd. Then it did not recognize my device, so it texted a confirmation code to an old phone number. I sent a help desk on the same day. April 5th Mercari sent generic request saying they were looking into it. Then sent a message that my request needed extra care. No other contact from them until April 11th, and I received a response from a tech, and then another response from a different tech 36 mins later. April 13th, the 2nd tech contacts me he's closing the case because I didn't respond to him. (I responded to the first tech). So I re-sent info on April 13th. Today, April 16th, I was contacted that my case needs extra care. How hard to update a phone number when they were both in my name? App deleted and moving on! What would happen with this group if I had a hard problem?

I have over 115 great reviews on Marcia I've been selling on there for about 6 months and I noticed that it seemed like some of my money did not always come in on one particular sale I did not instantly write the buyer back because I knew that she was someone on happy with the product so I left it for a couple days so I could flood it with the other positive reviews that I knew were coming in so after about 3 days of sitting in my box Marcia then rated the buyer took the money and withdrew it for themselves and I have not received any reason as to why so that is just pretty shady activity to me

Long story short. Never even read my concerns, just keep snap shotting my tracking info to me. Eventually I filled a complaint with PayPal only because I couldn't reach the seller and Mercari was NO help! After that MERCARI BLOCKED me all together. Wasted 1 week of my time just to cancel an order for a dress because seller did not ship item out within the deadline.
I got suspended by this site, twice, without successfully selling or buying a single item.
1st suspension took place after I registered an account and bought an item, great, an email arrived and asked me for proof of identity and bank statement.
I gave them what they asked, 3 days later, they asked about a transaction that is between my own bank accounts, which I transferred a lump sum from one of my other bank accounts as my balance is running low. Fine, I gave them another bank statement to proof that the other account is owned by myself as well, and they went ahead and reactivated my account.
I then decided to take another look at the app and bought a few items, and I sold an item in the meanwhile as well. Suddenly, it is giving me the same suspension message and asking me for proof of identity again.
Now I am stuck because I have sent the item that I sold and it seems that my account is deleted as I am not even able to login to the app. So I will probably lose out at the very end, both the item and postage.
I recommend everyone staying away from these cowboys as they have no idea what they are doing and their customer service has not been helpful at all.
I have decided to list a few items for sale on Mercari. Ended up with more questions than answers with the latter being none.
Why oh why I can't price my item at say, $24.99 but only at $25? Why can't I be informed that images have to be square? Have learned the hard way when they appeared chopped off. Went in to edit and when adding a new revised picture, was unable to move it around. Ended up deleting all pics & adding all of them again. Such a waste of time.
Why oh why am I requested to enter shipping weight and measurements when I offer a free shipping? How in the world does Mercari calculate my shipping if they don't know where it goes? Why am I bullied into using Mercari shipping when I want to use my own? I believe the protection is all the same, and I wanted to use Pirate Ship but no such luck. Last year I had a lone sale on Mercari, used Paypal without problems. Scroll up to 2020 and there is no Paypal link in sight.
Why am I unable to get in touch with Mercari, either by email or phone? Why do I have to google all the contact info? Not that I care as I deleted my listings and said good bye. STAY AWAY FROM SELLING ON MERCARI. There are better choices.
BE CAREFUL when doing returns, for if the carrier (USPS or UPS) lose the package and there is NO tracking, MERCARI will not file a claim on your behalf. The return label they submit to you for a return is under THEIR account and they will NOT pursue a lost claim! I actually handed the UPS driver the package that they sent the label for (the return), he scanned it and I then checked the status and it was in the system. 2 days later, no sign of package and Mercari will NOT file claim. To them, it seems like I never returned it even though when I chatted with UPS, they stated it is lost!
The worst site, DO NOT BUY ANTING ON THIS SITE...

Great site to buy and sell. Have sold in many other platforms and Mercari has been the best by far. Very easy to use I recommend this app to everyone.
Mercari ran a campaign for sellers to list 30 items in one week to obtain a $20.00 coupon towards a $50.00 Mercari purchase. However, it was a trap for Sellers because Mercari then FROZE the accounts for UNUSUAL ACTIVITY. Now mercari is holding the money of the sellers until a Government issued Photo Id is provided to Mercari. Everyone knows that a Government Id is code for IDENTITY THEFT. If you sell on Mercari take out your money every day, even it is less than $100.00. Mercari is holding the monies from Sellers Accounts and God only knows when they will release it.
Do not sell on Mercari, Do not buy on Mercari. If is walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is therefore a duck. A dishonest market place.

I purchased an item that ended up not being as described. I sent photos of the item to mercari that clearly showed it didn't match the photos on the original listing. They still denied my refund request and didn't even give me the option to give the seller negative feedback. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS
Constant messages of advertising. So much pushing that it's pushing me away from buying anything. Other then that the site is good and I like the payment options, fair fees.
Don't sell much here! They decide your product is against their standards and keep your money. No action to review. Ask for receipts and stuff the is personal business information
I ordered some cologne from a seller on the site. I gave them a shipping and billing address. They shipped my item to the billing address. I contacted Mercari customer service. They acknowledge that it was the incorrect address but refuse to do anything about it. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM MERCARI!
If I could give Mercari a negative rating I would. People especially buyers should be warned of Mercari. After buying on Mercari, Inc. for almost two months it is easy to see they side on the side of the seller. If you are a buyer, you're nothing. I tried to close my account today but because I have a transaction in progress I can't. My order was paid for on 6/25/23, two weeks ago. For my last two Mercari tranactions they had to send reminders to the sellers to ship my order. This last order was a Hollister jacket that cost $24. Shipping was $12.30 by UPS Ground. When I learned seller was using UPS I told her she could ship by USPS Priority Mail for $7.99 and that I would receive my order in three days. She refused and shipped my order three days later on 6/28/23.11 days later on 7/8/23 and I sit here without my order. UPS will only deal with the shipper, not the recipient. They have a new phone system in place so now it's even harder to get connected to a live body. If you don't say the right words the system automatically hangs up on you. When I reached out to Mercari their response was wait until July 28 or over one month from the date of purchase, i.e., June 25. Had this been eBay, PoshMark or Etsy they would never have allowed this to happen and certainly not expected me to wait a full month. In closing, if you don't mind waiting three days until your order ships, paying $12.30 for shipping and waiting 11 days for your purchase then by all means shop on Mercari. My order finally arrived today. Incredibly the seller has a high feedback rating. Nice wrap job.
