Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
Mercari's legal counsel has not met our deadline to respond to our legal notice to remove counterfeits of our brand from their website. One of the WORST corporations with this business model of online retailing. Even eBay removes counterfeits in less than 24 hours. Mercari is blatantly engaging in illegal, willful counterfeiting and failing to take any action. We have contacted their web host, Amazon Web Services, and will demand they remove the counterfeits. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS WEBSITE!
I have ordered the sonus subwoofer Gen. 3 from 4 different people and all 4 were shipped and shipped to a different address and confirming with Post Office. Neither package was mine or even resembled mine. I even went to a couple of the addresses the post office gave me and talked to the owner of the property never seen a package for me. Every time they sent me an email with the excuse. Wasn't sure if packets were sent, so they canceled my order and refunded my money.

I purchased a Louis Vitton bag from seller, when it arrived it was as fake as they come, i called Mercari and spoke to rep and I was instructed to wait for mailing sticker from them, send item back and immediately received my monies back, A few pointers, when purchasing something make sure its authentic and state that in message, this way of not they will refund money back
Decorating Bliss store sent me a broken house. Knowing it was broken. And I have proof. I contacted mercari customer service to report my item was damaged. I sent tons of pictures and noted that shipping was not up to par with the packing inside of box. The out come was I got a refund and the product could be disposal of my choice. So I decided to take the pieces out and glue the house back together and see what the results would be. I discovered the house was shipped out broken and did not happen with delivery. And how you might ask? Because there were lots of pieces missing. Now how could that happen unless it was shipped already broken. There was also a delay in shipping item in the first place and seller has the choice to ship even if you cancel which is what happened. Good and bad in my opinion. Good I was able to obtain a refund and Bad because this seller is not trustworthy. I will not do business with mercari after this. SO BUYER BEWARE. THIS COULD BE YOU AND THE OUTCOME COULD BE BAD.

I purchased 2 items from this site, total purchase was a little under $800 usd. I asked the seller, before my purchase for the measurements of both items, so I could make sure of fit. No measurements were given, however, the seller told me the skirts were "adjustable", so sizing is not an issue. I purchased with confidence, received the skirts. They were NOT adjustable. I could make the skirts smaller, but NOT larger. The merchandise was misrepresented by the seller, as I was led to believe they would fit. I told seller before purchase, making the skirts larger was my main concern.
I initiated 2 returns for both skirts through Mercari. Mercari took 10 days to get back to me, denying my return because they claim my reason for the returns; "merchandise was misrepresented by the seller," does not fit under the company's return policy. I read Mercari's return policy and buyer policy, BOTH clearly state, returns are allowed if merchandise is not as stated or misrepresented. They have refused my refund 3 times, the seller will not respond to me either. I have escalated the issue to PayPal, and am praying they force this company to refund me.
Mercari also slapped me in the face by emailing me, telling me I was free to relist the merchandise, for sale on their platform and sent me a 5% discount code. I am disgusted and will NEVER do business with Mercari again.

I am a mother of 3 young children, I have selling many things on mercari for about 4 month everything seems to be fine but last two weeks I selling my purses make about 1661$ than mercari contact me my account suspended because I have another account is well but I never we can't have more than one account but fair enough they say after my deposit complete to my bank them will delete my account, I transfer money to my bank and mercari say it's will deposit on 11-7-16 than I get message from mercari on that day say deposit complete but I check my bank 3 days later the money not come in to my bank and mercari is delete my account already, so I have no way to contact them I try to contact customer service but nothing back to me, we are broke now, not sure what to do next, it's totally scams
Items on Mercari can be slightly cheaper as they charge less of a fee than some other sites, but it is not worth it! Their customer service is horrible (and this is after the improvements that they made after they first launched the application. I sold and item on Mercari and they allowed the buyer to cancel the transaction AFTER I had shipped the item, so the buyer never had to pay and I was out the item - No one in customer service ever responded to me or even addressed the issue I had.
I recently bought an item that turned out to be damaged. When I contacted the seller she said she was more than okay with a return and issuing a refund. However, Mercari has you open a dispute through the app. If you cannot provide adequate pictures they make it very difficult to make a return as they have to 'approve' the return versus allowing the seller to do so. I have never had such a horrible customer service experience. Once this issue is resolved I will be deleting my account and never bother with it again. Save yourself time and frustration and do not bother with this app.
Heads up to everyone who was using the great flat shipping rates offered by this app. They have completely changed it. It's now worse than eBay which is why so many sellers moved from EBay to Mercari. They have RUINED THIS APP FOR EVERYONE. This app will now FAIL and sellers will go elsewhere like OfferUp. A tons of scammer buyers and company is not a professional, start-up. Firstly, it was such a good app for selling items. However, it now became terrible app, BUT it's better than Poshmark for sure!
Mercari is a horrible website when it comes to protecting sellers! I have a 70 feedback all positive and recently packed carefully a tested and working Wii console with games controllers etc, When buyer received it she claimed it did not read discs or eject them. I test ALL items before shipping as I sell both on Ebay, craigslist, Facebook marketplace and never do i have an issue. I explained I would be happy to have buyer file a claim with FedEx as I can only imagine it was dropped and caused the issue. So she requested a return not even 8 hours later before I could even email Mercari about getting ahead of the problem the grant her request, and It will be over my dead body before I let them make me lose $40 profit. Its just not right I am planning on pressing this one until I get satisfaction. According to their policy if an item is returned and not functioning as you sent it then I should be able to pursue it. How can they expect an honest seller to bear the burden of eating the cost of an item that was working when shipped and packed properly?
My experience and I only wish I came across this site to warn me of Mercari and their horrible business practices. Mercari acts on an all sales are final after you give a review of your item. So I never gave a review and I refuse too. I warned them ahead of time that if they didn't want to refund me even though it clearly states defective items are refundable. So let me get to my experience so you can hopefully avoid something similar.
I was looking for a replace laptop after mine died. I came across Mercari after a TV ad. So I used it to get an apple g4 laptop. I waited the shipping time of five days and when it got here I used it for ten minutes and it died. I had to tell the customer service for almost a month the product was defective and the refused to give me a refund even though their own policy states they could give me back my money. The seller I got the item from refused to take the item back but Mercari would take it back. Nope. I'm going to fix it on my own and sell it locally. Get my money back. Don't do business with these people. I lost 75.50 and my item was defective and refundable and refused. So just save yourself the trouble and spread the word to put these people out of business forever!
I sell on Mercari for 8 months and I love it. I sell a lot very satisfied everyone is nice you received payment when the buyer received the item. Everything goes according to plan. I STOP SELLING ON EBAY.

I sold an item and shipment kept stating the item was sitting at the buyer's post office, and therefore Mercari wouldn't release my finds. I reached out to the buyer to see if there was an error in tracking and perhaps they actually did receive it. No response at all. Christmas had come and gone... I'm only assuming with zero contact from them, it's been received. Then one day the app had completely deleted the transaction. Gone completely. I reached out to mercari and was told that it basically timed out and they recommended I file with USPS. Here's the kicker. With my transaction completely gone, I don't have a record showing how much the buyer paid, so I can't file at all. Mercari has closed out my case when I inquired the first time. I have reopened it, and they have seized assisting me. It is mind-boggling to me that they would just completely delete a transaction, instead of archiving it. Their lack of communication and assistance is also very concerning. At no point did they confess that their practices are wrong. It's hard to believe that them deleting the transaction is anything different than a hope that it'll be "out of sight, out of mind" and that people would just forget about a missing transaction that they were never paid for. I don't recommend them at all.
Look at all the Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant # 8 of 10 Upper Deck Dual Counterfeit Fakes on Mercari.
I just reported around 40 of the same # 8 of 10 counterfeit. Think Mercari will do anything.
These are unlicensed, unapproved counterfeits that infringe on the copyrights and trademarks of
Upper Deck and the NBA.
I wish the next TV or radio ad I see/hear from Mercari would lay out that there site is full of counterfeits.
What a great reputation to put dollars over people selling counterfeits.
These counterfeits are easy to spot. They contain:
- cloned / duplicated serial numbers
- Upper Deck Security Holofoils that are not real - just copied or photocopied.
- Contain statements of authencity that if a reprint are not true.
- Contain no disclaimers about authencity (fraud) and Reprint is not printed on the card.
Look at the 3 rd image. 20 of 22 in the image are sold counterfeits - and those are from one seller.
How can one seller continue to get away with selling counterfeit after counterfeit.

Avoid purchasing counterfeits on Mercari, Etsy, and eBay. Please report counterfeit items.

Although the platform should be good the customer service is horrible if you want to sell products and not make a lot of money than this is the right place for you the fact that the charger so much money to sell your item is not my favorite. However I want to make a purchase they automatically take your money out and if that seller does not ship you your item now you're waiting for weeks to receive your money back the customer service is horrible there's no communication there's no one to talk to you and once you receive the item you cannot receive your money back Someone sent me a pair of shoes that smell like someone crawled inside of them and died and he consciously wrapped them up in the box put my address on them and mail them to me and when I requested a refund through the company explaining why instead of the pictures of the nasty dirty filthy disgusting shoes they told me that I cannot have a refund because I confirm that I received the order. Although maybe the intentions of the platform were good it's not being executed that way they need a lot of work they need new management 100% unprofessional unreliable and there's no one to speak to about your problems however they have no problem taking your money right out of your account

I have been a seller on Poshmark for several years now and have had great success. Recently I looked into MECARI to try and increase the rate of my sales. Sold a pair of brand new shoes, sadly the buyer requested an immediate refund which was granted. When I received my shoes back they were not the shoes I sent, they were worn out and old shoes. I immediately contacted customer service and was told they could offer me no help since "the buyers complaints were the same discrepancies I had listed" of course, the buyer had the same shoes I had listed only old and worn, she simply took my brand new shoes and replaced them and requested a refund using the old shoes. Mind blown I assumed customer service would offer some assistance but absolutely none. I am completely disgusted and disappointed by the Mercari website. How can you offer protection from scammers and not back it up. I had proof of my shoes that were brand new and spotless and also the shoes I received which were torn up and obviously worn.
I will never sell another item on this site.

After leaving a phone message, they issued me a full refund in Mercari Credits. "You can use these Credit for purchases on Mercari, but don't forget they expire after 30 days".
Received defective camera on Friday - the lens cover curtains are not opening.
Tried to return it on Sunday and received "Item is ineligible for return" message. I did not rate the seller yet, but their website says "This item doesn't qualify for a return".
I used to sell on Mercari with a 5 star rating, until they gave my product away. I sold a piece of sports memorabilia that the buyer reported damaged (8x10 protective plexi-glass sheet reportedly cracked). The buyer removed the triple layered protective foam sheets (which was more expensive than the $1 plexiglass sheet), took photos without the protective measures and sent it to Mercari. Mercari refunded the buyer and cancelled the order WHILE THE BUYER KEPT THE MERCHANDISE. They responded with, "merchandise was insufficiently packaged" and hazardous to return.
I have shipped close to 100 (93 to be exact) of the same type items (all exact same materials/sizes/packaging with zero issues.
So, if you would like to receive items for FREE, remove any protective measures, file a damage claim stating broken glass along with doctored up the photos, and they will take the buyers word and give a 100% refund and let you keep it!

I purchased an item from a seller but when it was delivered, it was severely damaged. The seller has been cooperative BUT mercari has been more than impossible. I want to return the item, the seller has agreed, but no information can be gotten from mercari for a return. And don't even try to call them. Press 6, press 92, press 64, press 39, goodbye. They don't want you to call PayPal with a problem; they emial you "Call us first." My question: Why? You won't do anything, you offer no help. And I'm out $500.00. DON'T DO IT. The return/refund process can either go smoothly or bad depending on the rep. Sellers can lie or measure their item incorrectly.
Used the app since 2016 (when they still cared about buyers). Most of my returns went smoothly. Ordered from a seller that listed their item as a very popular high quality jewelry company and didnt measure the ring accurately. She sold me a ring she purchased off of aliexpress. I was told to show evidence that it was the incorrect size with a professional ring sizer (me, the buyer). They closed the ticket and I decided to take the loss to give the seller a review. Their policy states that if a buyer does not get refunded they can leave the seller a review. After leaving the review, I was notified they removed my review. That's against their policy. Nothing in my review was disrespectful, inappropriate, or untruthful. They protected this seller and removed her negative reviews. The reviews should be unfiltered. How else will other buyers to know what they are about to sign up for.

Mercari purposely makes using their support services incredibly difficult. They force you to try and self-resolve your issues with their Knowledge Base articles and do their best to make the creation of support requests hidden and confusing. I was sent a product that was falsely advertised. Given the COVID-19 situation, I was not able to travel home in time to open my package that had been delivered. When I did finally come home past their 3 day window, the product was falsely advertised. I reached out and was told they would resolve my complaint by issuing my a paid for return label. Then they immediately closed the ticket. I was not able to perform the return without the label. I had to figure out a new way to create a support request. A different Mercari agent responded with a generic canned response without reviewing any of the information I left. I realize they are busy but their workers are incredibly incompetent. To prevent unnecessary back and forth, I gave them an incredibly detailed 1000+ word account and documented evidence with airplane ticket itinerary and photographs of the product and the original listing proving the fraud they facilitated. They don't care. They are there to screw you taking the path of least resistance.
