Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
The worst platform to buy, I was a victim of Mercari. They promise to supported me, never happen.

I was charged for a b item that I canceled because if no tracking information in 5 days. And I sent messages about this problem and they told me to wait until day 7 for a refund; but they completed my sale, paid the seller and even gave her a 5 star rating. When I filed a dispute with my bank; I was told my account was going to be closed after my other orders are delivered. What kind of scam are they trying to run! I'm not the one. Keep all your records. Don't shop here at all
Theyb are terrible, for buyers and sellers, hard to get questions answered outdated rating system, high commission charges. No thank you i will stick with eBay and Amazon. The only way i will purchase from them again if they send coupons like they used to.
This company is AWFUL, with terrible "customer service agents" (using them words loosely). They are not at all friendly, have no people skills, and refuse to contact you back in regard to issues that you may or may not be experiencing. I stopped using an older email address bc I just was not using it anymore & everything else was under my newer email, so I changed my email address linked to my Mercari account. Once I changed my email, it would not allow me to make any purchases. I contacted their "support" and they closed my freaking account. Now they refuse to allow me to create a new account bc I have the same phone number. Never a day in my life have I dealt with people of rudeness to this manner/degree. I personally like spending money on Poshmark or eBay anyway as I am less likely to get sold items that are not authentic & are mislabeled in listing, which has occurred over five times.

They do not really have seller protection. Unless you take 700 pictures of your item from every possible angle and describe every inch of your product in detail, there is always something that buyer can say wasn't described appropriately. Mercari will always side with buyer.
I had a lot of items to sell and was using letgo when I got a text about Mercari. I googled and looked at reviews. One lady said the site was FULL of scammers. Well my first sale I got burned. Had a bracelet listed for $75. Lady talked me into letting her have for $25. I mailed to her. Bracelet had only been worn once when I took photo for the site. Was in plastic in its box. She got it and filed complaint saying it was old and damaged. So they didn't pay me. She wanted to keep the item and not pay return shipping. Also was warned that if you ask for your item back they send an envelope with paper clips and paper. I hope I get my item back. I have removed all my items. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Ridiculous
Never buy from this website, it is fraudulent. The (fictive) users could be created by Mercari to hold users' money, use them then return them after a month or maybe never (I have no proof of that but this is just my though) once everything is done, they make the SELLER inactive. Horrible customer service. I bought a coffee machine and I never received it. I followed the process of cancelation then requested my money back. They failed to make the refund on time then I had to go through PayPal to get my money back after they hold my money for about a month.
Stay Away from it.
Beware of customers wanting something at a cheaper price after it has been marked sold on the website.
First time to use the site my item still had the store tags in place.
The buyer wanted me to put the cash difference in the box with the item.
I did not do this so she wanted to return the item with the excuse it smelled like moth balls. I accepted the return but have not received yet. If your merchandise is on the higher end in quality I would use a different site. Mercari is not worth the hassle.

I had my account deleted after making a purchase with a girl and apparently me asking her name for shipping purposes was the reason my account was deleted, and banned from mercari. Not only did I contact them and get no response, but I never got a valid explanation or warning about my account being possibly deleted. I refuse to use this app any longer, I was a verified customer for 4 years, and I will never recommend this app again. Thanks a lot mercari, you lost a customer. Ridiculous.
I accidentally sent the wrong item to someone on Mercari who notified me after they received the item. Wanting to rectify the situation quickly, I saw a "cancel order" option when I pulled up the order so I went ahead and cancelled the order first rather than waiting for the buyer to request cancellation. It then cut me off from the buyer so I couldn't message her, she never received a return label for me to get the product back, Mercari didn't refund me for the item, there's no way to get in touch with the company, and I have no idea if the buyer was refunded because I couldn't communicate with her anymore. They are a complete rip off company. No wonder their ratings are so low. These people should not be allowed to be doing business and I am spreading the word as far as I can. BEWARE of this website and company!
I've completely deactivated my account and left the company due to the constant issues. Mercari is extremely unprofessional, unhelpful, and has ridiculous polices. They are very controlling with all seller and buyer communication. They literally block almost everything. Users can not send pictures of items, can not resolve any issues themselves, or allow anything discussed that may be helpful to each other. The company has scammed me and I hope they go out of business for stealing money from people. They required me to complete a review in order to request a refund for an item that was delivered damaged. I was also not able to speak to a representative unless a review was submitted. Then, once I did they told me sorry they can't refund if a review is submitted? What a scam! It's company rigged and they did not allow the seller to communicate with me at all regarding a refund or pictures of the damaged item. CUSTOMERS BEWARE!

If i could rate ZERO stars- I would. The absolute WORST most DREADFUL customer service I have ever had. I bought about seven item on this app over a 4 month period. I attempted to purchase an item in January and it confirmed. About 3 minutes later I received an email and an app notification saying they revoked my privileges due to "unusual payment activity". They will not talk to me about why. I have called and emailed nine times with them. They wont take to me or reinstate my account. They told me to "request Direct Deposits in order to receive your funds" back. I have requested to speak with a supervisor 4 times. They will not call me or get me to a supervisor. Multiple emails saying they won't tell me anything or reinstate my account.
Their automated system erroneously flagged random items as fake. This has happened in the past a few times and they apologized for it and reinstated the listings. They subsequently closed our account and provided no reason why. All the items we list are 100 percent authentic. We have perfect feedback score on their marketplace from over 100 sales and 7 other marketplaces including eBay and Amazon. We protested their decision and never heard back from their customer service. Waste of time and effect. You are better off selling on professional marketplaces like eBay, Amazon and Poshmark.
I cancelled my order immediately when I discovered I could purchase the item for $100 more brand new. It showed up a week later, missing all cords, software and user manual. I have no way to return the item since there's no return address. It is a very expensive paperweight!.
I have actually sold some things on Mercari...small things... Then this happened: I purchased a Vivitar camera in original packaging for my grandson for Christmas. It was in November so it was going to go over the 15 day return but it was in original packaging! So I did it. What I didn't know was that Mercari knowingly sells stolen goods as when I looked it up after my grandson opened it and it didn't work at all it was listed as stolen! Are you kidding me? Isn't that illegal? They wouldn't even hear my concerns because it was past the 15 days. Now that's a lousy company!
By the way I am a Level 6 Reviewer on Google and a reviewer on Amazon.

Stay away from this marketplace. As a 20+ year ecommerce seller on different marketplaces, I find Mercari is the worst. Its agents act like scammers. They said things conflicting with each other, and not to honor the original promise. It does not seem to have standard rules to follow. Agents would came up with anything to make you go away. Then they find a dozen different bogus reasons not to pay sellers. Fortunately I had only one sale being scammed, my only sale. So bye bye Mercari.
They don't have a customer service phone number! Everything is done by emailing them and hoping they return the email! I'm a seller that sold over 830 items with great feedback! A buyer with 7 total purchases comes along and returns an item ckaiming it was fake! I gave tons of proof as to its authenticity and they still sided with the buyer
I sold an oriental umbrella stand on Mercari. The buyer asked to cancel but I didn't cancel. I took pictures of the item prior to shipping to prove it was packed to Mercari specs. Buyer told Mercari it was in pieces due to insufficient packing. I don't believe it! This was a heavy piece and was delivered within days. I had styrofoam around all sides, top, bottom and wrapped it in layers of bubble wrap. I had styrofoam and packing paper inside it. Mercari refunded their money and told them to keep my item. I called UPS and they told me it was insured. But no item, no reimbursement. If they did it to me, I'm sure they have done this to other sellers. In my opinion this is theft. Now I'm out a $100.

I will not be using this site again bought item wasn't shipped in allotted time. No refund. After several email request no refund no response. On June 6th get an email item is in transit, delivered on the 8th. Inquire about return, mercari replies it does not fit the category, then why did You send me an email to cancel because it did not ship within required time frame. Oh did I mention seller sent me an email 3 days after the purchase she had a flat tire, then on the next day I get the same generic email from her, then no further response. Never will I use this site
Mercari sells fake merchandise and, when called on it, they couldn't care less. And they will not refund payment or provide a credit if 3 days have passed, which is often too short a period of time to try out the item purchased. And, to add insult to injury, they then post an automatic review that says GREAT, which they will not change even though you, the buyer, have had a really bad experience. This is no way to run a company.

Horrible customer service You have to wait forever for their response! But they will delete your item without any reason and they do that very fast. And will block you for 12 hours because of nothing. Also it's almost not possible to return an item or your money back. They worked better when they started. But now it's just horrible.
For $11 I got black distressed, cut-up Jeans in a size 3! I am not a size 3 and I don't wear black or jeans. They did arrive on time though. Hahaha The only way to contact the seller is a chat box. I am seriously disappointed. I wanted my cute floral pants. Bummer. Maybe I'll get a reply someday?
This company is an awful company to work with. My item arrive completely broken and I was not given a refund because I respond just after the 72 hour period. The person who sold it to me had crap packaging and the handle broke completely off. But it is apparently my problem because Mercari refused to work with me because it was outside the 72 hour period.

First of all you have no idea who you are dealing with. There is NO live customer support and emailing is such a hunt and peck system. I was blatantly shipped the incorrect item and have yet to receive a return label. My case was closed because they are allowing a return but no label. They blocked me from chatting with my seller because I gave the guy my phone number since no one in the system would communicate with me. I made an offer that was accepted within the allotted time but could not perform the charge unless I took the higher bid. NO ONE WILL HELP ME! I will never buy from them. I think they are not in US. This was such a BAD experience from the get go. Their site is confusing! No one should have to go through such frustration.
I purchased ceramic bear bookends. I received them today. Upon opening them, I see they were packaged with 2 ply tissue paper and lots of space in the box for movement during shipping. I first contacted the seller twice and got no return response. So I went to site to request a return. Went through all the steps in detail. Took 12 photos and attempted to submit. However site said "something went wrong" and to try again later. Which I did attempt 6 times. No avail. So I went back to the home site to contact Customer service. And try to report the item, only for it to say that I can't return an item that I already rated? I Did NOT do a review on this item or the seller and now can't find any other way to straighten this out. Apparently from what I have been reading, I was just screwed out of my money and no one gives 2 craps as long as they get paid! Let me say that I am beyond livid at this point! What dumbass packs ceramic in tissue paper instead of bubble wrap?
