Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I have been screwed a 2nd time. First time I returned bracelet and I paid $250 for it.
Now seller made a mistake and sent me someone else's order. I am screwed bc I just returned after 10 days (attending a funeral) Seller is not allowed to help and I am OUT $50 and they will not allow communication- it's like dealing with Communist China-they have deleted 3 of my attempts to communicate with the seller. I am out $300. With NO recourse. Buyer Beware!
I purchased a sweater from Mercari and when received it noticed that there is big hole on it. I contacted the seller and uploaded clear pictures of the damage. The resolution center gave me a store credit which I didn't want to instead of giving me a full refund. It forces me to ship from " Mercari"! Unfair decision. Instead of sending notification to the seller, they forced me to do purchases from that site again...
I have tried to purchase 2 times with them. Both times unsuccessfully either you purchase and seller does not ship. Or the seller does not respond or says you have a problem with payment source. I messaged this seller many times with no response. I would not give them a credit card number I use paypal only. Never again! Go to poshmark

Customer service is the WORST. They closed my account for nothing won't give anyone a chance to petition or explain the rules explicitly. I had posted a handbag and they immediately closed it. I had no idea it was against the rules to post a NON designer purse for sale.

You will be banned for telling a buyer what brand the clothing your selling is from. you can’t say any other company names or they automatically chat ban you.

Honestly, worst customer service. Explained 4x and they were confused. Plus they took so Looooong to respond. I was asking for a credit because of shipping and a credit for using their mobile app which I didn't see. Instead I got the phone number to UPS for tracking my package. I got no information about receiving any credit whether they can or cannot give it to me. It was the 1st time I used Mercari and it was very disappointing and frustrating.

Make sure you check for similar products. their shipping costs seem to change even if its the same exact item from the same seller. Check the promos for discounts.

Mercari accepted a return from a buyer claiming the items were not as described and damaged on arrival. The buyer then sends photos of just the items and conventionally doesn't take photos of the packing materials used. Mercari accepted the return under insufficient packing materials when there was ZERO proof without photos. All in all if you're a buyer wanting too return items just don't send pictures of packing materials it came with and they will refund you and screw the seller over!

Beware of Mercari customer support as they only honor shipping protection for sellers when then feel like it.
I shipped out 2 $800 chandeliers both purchased for $300 on their site. It was completely wrapped in bubble wrap the full 2 inches, that UPS mandated and the box they had me buy from them in order to provide security. One was received perfectly. The other was damaged. Mercari STATES they provide a $200 insurance on your item in case of loss or damage in transit. And YET THEY refuse to follow it. Claiming it wasn't packaged correctly, yet the other was the same way and NOT broke. The receiver even stated, it was packaged correctly, and Mercari says we are both wrong and it's my loss to swallow.
They suspended my account indicating I was selling counterfeit items. I contacted them to release my funds. Never received a complain from customers. They said they will have to hold my funds until July 14,2017. I tried today to transfer my money to my account it will still not let me. I've been trying to contact them, but my messages have been blocked?
This website does not deserve even one star. I bought a furby rocker from one of the sellers in Mercari. The item took two weeks to arrive and it was the wrong item. There is no place in the website to complain or contact the seller. It all comes to a dead end. I finally found a phone number (not in the website) but I was put on hold for a long time. First I wait time was 7 min, then increased to 10 min then "not available" then hang up on me. This website is a fraud and so suckish. I hope they go out of business soon!
This company is bs. They said they delivered my package I never got nothing so i notify them and also notify my paypal account and mecari had the nerves to send me a uncomfortable email. Im still havent got any issue resolve but a call fed ex for your package and for them to pay for it. So people if you order with them and don't receive your package they will only give you website credit or tell you call who ever delivered the package for them to give you the money.
I was a victim of fraud on my credit card. Without knowing this at the time I made a purchase on Mercari and it was declined. Without warning Mercari suspended my account and I have been unable to reactivate it even with an updated card. No warning, no communication from Mercari, no answers to numerous emails. At this point, I think I am grateful. I do not want to do business on this site!

Mercari specializes in vendors who pedal counterfeit wares. Purchased not one, but FIVE counterfeit items, shame on me for not waiting between purchase to arrive to see the actual quality/authenticity of the items purchased. This buyer was buttbit too many times. Word of advice, if you're purchasing any electronics, request the seller to send you the serial number and call the company to verify if that's an ACTUAL serial number for that product. Otherwise high likelihood they're peddling cheap crap for which you're overpaying for the privilege.
I ordered a necklace for my wife. The picture of the item looked good on their site but did not portray the lack in quality. The company makes it very difficult to return an item & to create a return on their site was impossible. After several emails it was decided that I couldn't return the necklace.
I sold a handbag to some scum bag. Two days later after the bag was delivered I got a message from Mercari saying the buyer requested a return and it was approved. Almost a week later my package was delivered except it wasnt my bag! The buyer put another cheap bag in the box and scammed me! Eventually I finally got in touch with mercari and guess what they did? NOT A $#*!ING THING! Now Im out $200. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this horrible site. Huge scam

They claim I was attempting to sell a prohibited item, I don't understand why my item was marked prohibited to begin with. I received the warnings, restricted account, and we're closing your account all within 12hrs. I put an inquiry in... 3 days later all it said was you were attempting to sell a prohibited item. He just gave me the information I already knew. Nothing else. This is frustrating. The only information you receive is from a pre-written generic email. No customer service skills exist.

I opened a return for an expensive item because it was not working properly. Return was approved, return label sent, and I shipped the package with the return label provided to me. Tracking shows the item delivered and now Mercari is trying to tell me that they won't refund me because I took more than 3 days to return the item, which I did not... They want me to go into the FedEx store and talk to a manager, which is completely irrelevant as I have tracking showing the item delivered. I have to open a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back. This company is a scam...
I ordered a backpack for my daughter for Christmas that the seller said was brand new. As soon as I opened the box I was overwhelmed with the smell of cigarette smoke. When I asked to return it because of how bad the smell was, Mercari said that they can't accept returns just because of a smell. They only protect the seller not the buyer and now I'm stuck with an item I can't use. I will never use Mercari again. They only care about the sale going through and not protecting the consumer. Horrible customer service!

I ordered TV ears from a seller on Mercari paying $42 for the item said to work. It doesn't work at ALL, and after THREE days, I can't return the item or get my money back. Worse, after 3 days, Mercari reviews the seller FOR ME with 5 stars. Either the seller lied that the item "works well," or the shipping killed the item. Either way, defective items should be able to be returned. The blurb to sell the item said it was returnable, but obviously that isn't true either. I'm very disheartened that Mercari is so unfriendly to those to whom they sell.

Seller AJFunkin on Instagram and Mercari is a scammer. He posts a lot of items he doesn't intend on sending. Then you send him messages he dont respond. He sells collectibles and Funkos. Beware of him. He will tie up your money then just not bother to reply, why post if your not planning on selling? Or maybe he doesn't have the items. He cancels a lot to which makes me think he's looking to find the items in similar conditions as the pics. That's all I have to say is some sellers are just out to make a quick buck or mess with you and then wine about their collections. Well we are out here too bro. Treat people with kindness or respect and quit showing off on Instagram we all know your trashy scammer.

I sold my laptop on Mercari so I could buy books for school and Mercari sold it to a scam. I didn't get my money nor my laptop. Becareful do not sell anything on Mercari. I have all the emails from their customer service and I basically looked like a joker to them.

So the whole situation is someone bought a laptop from me and I took the laptop and the charger itself to ups in Greenbelt. The manager (Mr.Sang)himself was the one that packaged the laptop and charger and I paid $19.08 for it. Even though the label was made by Mercari. When the laptop got to the buyer, the buyer claims he did not receive any laptop but rather a Micheal Kors jacket in a damaged box. And it’s kinda confusing because them based on the ups data on the package it shows the buyer signed for the package and claims he received a wrong item. So I file a police case (Case number PP*******0698 )on it and ups also did their investigations. Ups manager email Mercari support including Erwin from Mercari who turned a blind eye to the whole situation. Ups further sent email of them packaging the laptop and charger and included a receipt of the package to Mercari support. I know there’s a saying “customer is always right” but not when Mercari support Erwin turned ignored to listen to the truth. So when the returned package came I took it back to ups and the manager took pictures of the box and said that was not the box they placed the laptop in. And besides the returned box is from amazon. I sent the receipts and pictures of all the details Mercari support needed to prove that the buyer is lying. And funny enough I have never sold an item on Mercari for someone to complain on the item. I even booked a flight back to Maryland because I was in medical school in Florida and I showed Mercari support that I’m going home to follow up with this issue. And the truth is the buyer was lying and got away with not only my laptop but the money as well. And because of this I can never work with Mercari again. I’ve been a loyal and fast responding seller on your app. But I don’t like how you treated the issue. Thank you. All the receipts and evidence have been shown in our email. After several investigations I look like a joke to Mercari and they laughed at me. Even though I showed proof from the police and manager of ups. So becareful everyone.
Buyers beware if you purchase items from Mercari and is canceled afterwards and relisted. You don't get your refunds. You get a run around about it will take so many days to get your refunds or they didn't charge you but in fact you are charged on your bank account and never received refund. Got ripped off big on many items.
