The concept of Nextdoor is great, the reality is horrible. It's good for things like missing pets or local events, but it's mostly neighbors complaining about each other. Posting inappropriate things, that really belong on personal Facebook pages. Anyone can see what you post and vice versa. Also anyone can comment on what you post, so that leads to lots of trolls. There really isn't a way to moderate the comments. I was a community reviewer and the leads are also just community members. If a post or comment is reported, we vote on if it should be removed. So it's really the opinion of the leads if something gets removed. So as you can imagine, if the lead agrees, the reported content doesn't get removed. It's biased. Horrible things stay on, minor things get deleted. This site puts neighbors against neighbors. The reality is that it goes against everything they say it is
In late May 2019 our community was dealing with the affect of a major road closure and rerouted traffic. In addition to sharing issues our neighbors were encountering a major storm resulted in numerous road closures and poor outages. Members comments quickly informed neighbors and township officials of problems. With power outages affecting internet access posting from cellphones was important.
It is also nice to see posts of things being given or sold and services needed or offered. I highly recommend Nextdoor.
If admins were not affiliated with the neighborhoods the app would be infinitely better. As it is now, biased administrators allow and help create dangerous and hostile environments. We have a group of residents that typically band together and practice little restraint with what they post, including profiling, criminal accusations with no proof, pictures of individuals because the thought they "looked suspicious" and just general whining and nastiness. Unfortunately, the admin approves of their methods and this does not create a strong neighborhood. Because this one group is permitted to post and bully the rest of the neighborhood, it creates suspicion and animosity.
On the plus side, this app will definitely let you know whom to steer clear of in the neighborhood.
I love this site! So wonderful to be in contact with your neighbors and share important information with each other. It is very important to be in contact with your neighbors and to offer your knowledge and support when needed. I want to share my experience with businesses/services in the area to help them and appreciate their input in return. I just wish it were easier to categorize the services recommended rather than saving them to file.
I'm a volunteer lead.
In general, it is about what I'd expect. Mostly neighborly, with a few people behaving badly, and a few more not quite understanding how to have discussions. I've gotten useful tips, met neighbors, and seen the good sides of many. The vehicle for dealing with bad actors is OK, but limited.
One thing service-wise which has been lacking is that ND does not seem to deal with fake names. The Policy is that people are supposed to use real names. As a lead, I have reported clear fake names, but see that all of them are still there.
Daily digests have changed in form, and the for-sale board has been deprecated to a limited set of thumbnails. For many people (not necessarily me) the sales boards are a big draw, so I wonder if they find that this reduces their responses. I find it harder to browse those.
I paid $93 to run my coupon for my carpet cleaning business for 31 days they took my money last Sunday today is Thursday! My coupon is up there is no way to get a hold of these people I would like my refund I'm so angry I'm a new business I can't afford that thanks a lot next-door you're a complete rip off
I post a funny photo on Monday and Friday in hopes of bringing a laugh or a smile. Without the connectivity of Nextdoor it wouldn't be possible. I get wonderful feedback which makes me feel like I'm part of a big family of neighbors.
Nextdoor needs to show a disclaimer at the top of their site to advise potential "customers" that they ONLY allow certain people with specific skin colour to join. Nextdoor promotes an agenda and only allows certain events to be posted in neighborhoods. If your "event" goes against the Nextdoor agenda, your post will be removed.
If you post a Comment or a simple response to a neighbor and your question doesn't sit well With the "leads", you will be literally Viciously verbally attacked And your account will be disabled.
This is the worst excuse for a "neighborhood app" ever made. All this app does is cause neighbours to fight and disparage one another. This app literally promotes racism and hatred and hopefully it will be pulled. Either that, or "people" will realize what is behind this app and they'll disable their own accounts!
Disgusting that an app disguises itself behind "bringing people together" and
Then blatantly promotes racism and violence!
Nextdoor.com is an excellent tool to connect neighbors and neighborhoods with police and sheriff offices, announce local goings-on and events, keep a look out for lost pets or suspicious characters, buy or sell something, or advertise a garage sale; however, it is abused by some to rant about any- and everything, post political and religious views and attacks, instigate and argument online about "he said/she said", and just plain, unneighborly behavior.
They don't want you to really know whats next door. They want only good things that make you feel safe like you live in a bubble and not next door or down the street from a drug dealer. Say something people don't like and they kick you out no explanation to kiss poor black people. The poor and black don't even use their stupid racist towards whites service. Mostly white people wanting free stuff or plumbers they can find on better reputable websites. Didnt even send me a card when i moved even though i asked for one. A complete joke for areas that have rich and poor. The rich dont want to know the truth they live among bad people yet they know it just dont remind them
I loved their site before I placed my first ad to market my business. My ad got flagged because I had not registered. They told me to register. So I did. After that they suggested that I seek reviews from my clients to build my reputation. At that point I could no longer navigate their website. Every link lead back to my reputation page. I could not even read stories or look at ads from other neighbors. I contacted them on Facebook to let them know that I wanted to spend advertising dollars on their website. They never got back to me. They do NOT have a way to contact admin. STAY AWAY! These people are incompetent.
Nextdoor should come change their name to whiteguiltpropaganda.com cuz thats what its become here in the Bay Area. Site is filled with liberals that will verbally attack and bully you and label you a racist if you express an opinion that they dont agree with. Mods are liberal so they will censor you if they dont agree with your viewpoint. Definately not a place for free speech. I'm okay if they dont want political talk but some political post get removed right away and others do not. You can usually tell which side of the argument the moderator is on right away
In our community, nextdoor does get used for the purpose it is Intended, like to get recommendations when you need a plumber. It also gets used to bring attention to what city hall is up to and express concerns. Sometimes some of us get a bit overly emotional (especially against local politicians) but I have not seen much in the way of personal attacks. We even have community get togethers every once in a while to ut a face to a name. I do think it is very important in a group like this that people use their real names, so we do not hide behind anonimity.
The Lead persons in Oxnard Shores are part of the local 1450 member HOA which recently has taken illegal steps to remove property rights. The Lead persons, HOA board members and supporters have blocked all discussions, comments and debate on HOA issues thereby leaving the community without important information. They also banned opponents from the site and removed all their comments just like a dictatorial sect. Nextdoor was notified but never took action, only supported the lead persons censorship.
Nextdoor is only serving to promote cliquish behavior in my community and supports those who are bullying. Nextdoor has leads that are encouraging a band of bullies in my neighborhood to push out people they simply don't like. Comments such as "Move out of the neighborhood" are made by, and encouraged by the leads. Nextdoor does nothing about this and according to the leads, has been violating their own policies by sharing personal information about members the leads should not be privy to. Nextdoor has put people in my community who have a history of posting comments that bully and violate the guidelines onto the moderation team. This is unacceptable! Nextdoor in essence, is causing gossip and a non-inclusive environment at the community level.
The app is really useful except it does sensor our right to free speech! Too bad they do not even have a staff designated to deal with arbitrary suspensions like the one I just received. All I can imagine I said in any thread was that God was actually an ancient alien being, that was competing with other alien beings at the time of when all the ancient writings were being cataloged. I bet the guy who I disagreed with (the author of the thread) reported me to Nextdoor and wallah I was suspended. It's a shame that people hold everything aside from their truths as an insult, and will report you as a discriminator and a bully in order to shut you up. Ridiculous platform for that reason only, but it's a BIG reason!
Helpful - most of the time. Sometimes the "experts" get a little out of hand but, you can't control that.
I most appreciate the lost pet information. I think lots of pets have found their way home due to the site.
Overall I appreciate the service provided.
I use Nextdoor to get recommendations and to respond to other's requests for information. It is a good resource for input from others on various topics. One aspect I do not like is not knowing why a thread is removed. At least leave in its place the reason it was removed and maybe who removed it. I would like to be able to create a group which includes neighbors from other neighborhoods besides my own.
I suspect given the "guidelines" the site claims to follow which is IMO a bit imprecise. While I appreciate having a local sight with which to contact my neighbors and share thoughts, concerns and more, ND's desire to censor is no less atrocious than the censorship from any other entity. Outside of very clear hate mongering that serves no purpose ther should be no censoring. To serve as a beenfit outlet to the public includes not only the warm fuzzy news of the day but also should educate and allow the negatives and educations of life's negatives which ultimately in the end also serves the public to the benefit. Warm and fuzzy, I expect to find on You tube vids. Not when I'm dealing with other adults. So this leaves us with a censored site that collects too much information. I strongly suspect it also is an information affiliate selling website. Nothing is for free in this world.
It's funny how most of the negative reviews are regarding how "bullying" and abusive this site may be. And yet that's exactly how the people are that are writing such reviews! For an honest person (business owner) who operates a business of high integrity (such as myself) this site Is A Blessing! And allows people in need of an honest and very good plumber to find me and/or my business. And yes, I get all 5 stars. I am in No Way boasting of myself; I Am Nothing without Christ! But this site serves both myself and my customers very well!

Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
