DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY (if it really is one)!
I ordered a tool chest online. There was no back order at the time of order.
Immediately there was some problem with the delivery, so I called the company to work it out.
Then I was told the item was on back order for a few days.
When I did not receive shipping verification within a few days, I called back.
I was told that the item was now on back order and would take 6 weeks.
As I was not in a particular hurry to get it, I was ok with that.
When the 6 week period expired I received a letter from the company explaining that there was a further back order for another 30 days.
As this was the little that I could wait for this item, I was concerned at that point, but I accepted the additional delay.
At the end of this period, I received another similar letter asking me to wait again.
I called Northern Tool and Equipment and told them to cancel the order. I was told that my credit card would be refunded in 1-2 business days.
After monitoring my credit card for a refund for 2 weeks, I called the credit card company to investigate. I was told no such purchase appeared on my card.
After chatting with the credit card security services, we jointly decided that this is probably a PHISHING SCAM to gain valid credit card information to be sold on the black web or otherwise.
The decision was made to cancel my credit card and re-issue an new one.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Deal with this company and you are giving someone your name, address, phone number and credit card information and are not likely to get the product that you think that you ordered.
I purchases a mower (Honda Self Propelled Mower - 160cc) (*******) on 4/19/2017 online and to be shipped to a near by store vs my home to avoid shipping charges. On 4/24/17 I had not received any shipping notifications so I emailed customer no service inquiring about the status. The following day, 4/25/2017 I received a B. S. reply to my inquiring, "My records indicate your order is preparing to ship from our warehouse and should arrive to the store before 05/06. The store will contact you when it is available for pickup. I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced".
I can not believe in the day an age we live with the speed of most companies logistic and distribution solutions, it would take two and half weeks to full fill an order. I purchase almost everything online from multiple companies online. Never have I experienced this slow of service.
I had the opportunity to purchase the exact same mower from Home Depot, ironically, closer to my home too, but for some reason, I went with Northern... ugh. Grass continues to grow and grow.
I am in a new home and left my rider with my last home as the new place has a much smaller yard. The time and money I thought I was saving buying this online, is costing me as I have to hire a lawn care company at $50 a mow to keep the grass cut for two more weeks for 4 service calls.
I wish customer no service would have offered to at least let me stop at the local store and get the exact same mower off the shelf. Northern had an opportunity to make a happy customer.
This post is by no means a slam on the Honda mower. Never owned one, but all the reviews on the mower are all thumbs up. So good luck to me when it does finally show up.
My advice, get the product in the store and stay away from the online // save the frustration. 10 more days of wondering ahead for me.
I order a tools in black friday, they freaking cancel it after a week. That tools i bought it supposed to be a birthday gift, now its too late!
Have made multiple purchases from Northern Tool and Equipment - good website, easy to navigate and great products for reasonable prices!
They sell cheap equipment and pay for quality equipment. Bought a new pressure washer and could not get it to run.
My mothers sewage pump went out. I ordered another with a 2 day delivery on 03/29/21. Got it today. After they had to "reship" two other pumps. The first pump made it to the airport, after 2 days past the 2 day delivery date I called fedex who told me to wait two days. I called again and was told 2 days, talked to a manager who said it was lost. Northing took 3 more days before they shipped another pump. The second pump site in the warehouse for 3 days before the same status of "no availably delivery date" called again and was told to, you guessed it, wait another 2 days because "the 2 day shipping doesnt start until the pump is picked up by fedex" I guess meaning the site that says its suppose to be there 2 days later doesnt amount to anything. After an email and another call I was promised a pump would be shipping on monday 4/19 with special over night 1 day delivery since my mother has now been WITHOUT RUNNING WATER for almost a month. Did I get it on the 20th? No. I did infact finally recieve an update and got the pump today 4/21 at 11pm EST. Almost a FULL MONTH after I ordered the pump. And to beat it all when it finally got here the box was ripped open on the bottom so hopefully it actually works.
Ordered some items back in December, 2020. I ordered a total of 12 items. 8 items showed in stock at local retailer, with the remaining four showing "will ship in 2-5 days." Received an email next morning stating items could be picked up at local store. I arrived expecting to get items that were in stock... not one item was there. My first of several wasted trips to their inconvenient location. Manager in the store stated that all online orders were sent to the store and they never "pull items" from their in stock to reserve for online orders. I then presented a hard copy of my email telling me to come in and pick it up (dated/timed). He stood there dumbfounded and a look of "well i just f'd up and got caught." He ran to the back, spent 10 minutes doing something, and then came up and said that all items are ordered and will be in within a week or two.
Long story short, 6 unnecessary trips due to staff incompetence (telling me my total order was ready for pickup and it wasn't, me traveling to get ordered canceled because over the phone customer service was useless, and their hours are not even posted correctly for Saturday hours online), my items got backordered and pushed back 1.5 months, and I eventually just returned every item once it came in because I was able to walk into a competitors store during this entire time and buy off the shelf.
They lost my business for good. I am a tradesman who uses Milwaukee primarily. If Milwaukee came out tomorrow and said they would sell exclusively through Northern Tool, I would stop buying Milwaukee. Brand loyalty is important to most tradesman. I'd jump brands before going back to Northern Tool.
So, from time to time I spend a bunch of money with Northern Tool. That ended today. I will no longer purchase anything from them again. Recently, I spent a little over a $1000 on some two engine stands and two screw jacks. I could have gotten them cheaper and faster from a different company, but norther tool had a promotion for "free" gift cards. I spent over a $500, so I got an email with the $100 gift card number and pin. The first time I went to use it, I got called away from the computer and never finished the order. The second time I went to use it the balance was $0. I called the company to find out that it had expired less than two weeks ago and they will not refund the money. She said the expiration date was in the email. When I checked, it was there like she said, but it was only good for exactly 90 days. I have never heard of a gift card only being good for three months. I suppose it is my fault for not reading the whole email. Anyway, when I told the lady on the phone that I only bought from them for the gift card and I would not spend any more money with them, she absolutely did not care. That is some great customer service, and headquarters must be proud. I told her I had a decision to make, and since she did not care neither will I. Maybe she thought I was bluffing, but if she would have spent a second to listen and understand she would have known I was serious. I own a home improvement company and am constantly buying tools I need to get my jobs done. I will definitely not buy anything else from this company, there are plenty of other places to get better equipment. Oh well, at least there will be less catalogs for me to throw away in the future.
Answer: Absolutely horrible, you get the rub around with emails containing same useless info from multiple people, shop elsewhere and save yourself the stress and anxiety
