What's the point
January 30, 2020

What's the point of booking through opentable when they don't give you any points? The whole reason is to build up points and thus rewards. But I've made two bookings through this site and neither time have I received any points. So why not just book direct and save the hassle of booking through a third party site that does absolutely nothing
BTW, I messaged them and didn't even get an automated reply let alone an actual one.
So my advice is - don't bother with opentable

Serious glitches
March 1, 2020

I received an email from OpenTable this afternoon informing me that the restaurant I was going to in two hours had cancelled my reservation. I was unable to reach them and assumed the restaurant must have been experiencing some sort of emergency. After dinner at another restaurant, we drove by our original restaurant and discovered that they were open and we're surprised we had cancelled. Something seriously went wrong with their software. I will never use it again and will revert to making person to person phone calls for reservations.

We had a reservation at NOLA Restaurant in Los Angeles, this evening, via Open Table. Just before heading out, we called to confirm their address. It was no longer Nola. Nola had closed. It it now the Bourbon Supper Club & Burlesque!

Just before going out the door, we called another restaurant and made a quick reservation. There was no time to cancel our reservation at the restaurant that no longer exists.

Now watch. Tomorrow, we'll receive one of the scolding emails they are famous for, demanding that we explain why we were a "no show:, threatening a "red check" if our explanation is insufficient!

Where the $#*! was Open Table when this restaurant CLOSED and re-opened as another, knowing that we had an upcoming reservation? These people are ridiculous and this service totally sucks!

I want compensation for our inconvenience!

Think about this. How would uber do if you waited 7-10 days from the time you ordered your ride? How would amazon prime do if you product got delivered in 7-10 days? Yet this company gets people to buy gift cards (majority never used) and here their making it even more difficult to use. Why not add three government ID's to the mix? Can we make this business model any more perverse?

I am a VIP with Opentable and I changed jobs. Somehow my account is locked and the email won't work. I have followed the chat instructions and it just becomes a circle of nothing. You can't find a phone number anywhere to get tech help

They have lost 10-20 reservations by this $#*!ty inability to answer/solve a customer problem

I guess you did something to your web suite because I have used it before and was able to make reservations for four with no problem. Now I can only make reservations for two. This makes the web suite less than useless. I have tried about Ten times this year to use it and ended up calling the restaurant 7 of those 10 times. Terrible track record. From now on I will go back to making my reservations at the restaurants. Find your service useless. From the reviews I see, looks like you need to start over.

I have been a member since your program started and this new award system is awful. I don't mind doing it on line, but honestly... where are all the restaurants I frequent? They are definitely not on the list. This is highly unacceptable. You are now telling us what restaurants we should dine at? OR you are going to give a $50 gift card for a $100 award on Amazon! REALLY! I can delete Open Table and call the restaurants directly for that!

A reservation for three was, according to the restaurant and Open Table, not taken. Although we were at the restaurant over an hour for lunch and coffee, we were obviously not noticed, so Open Table sent an email suggesting we needed a rain check, restaurant businesses fail because of no-shows, and reminding us that cancellations should be made 24 hours (or more) before the booked time.

The patronising admonition was neither deserved nor appreciated. In future I'll take my chance with the restaurant's telephone number and a real non-critical, non-judgemental responder.

Booked table for 5, when we show up restaurant said I had no reservation, had to wait for a table, looked like I messed up/forgot to book to everyone else.

Next day open table sent me an email saying I forgot to show up or failed to cancel the booking.

I complained, they sent me "300 points", not sure what that even means as it appears you need 2000 points to earn $26. So essentially they sent me a sixth of a meal in points as an apology.

I should have just called the restaurant!

OpenTable has never let me down. Restaurants, on the hand, yes. As far as I'm concerned, but OT got me the reservation, but the restaurant failed to fulfill it. In any case, thumbs up. And if you can't get a res. Through OT, try calling the restaurant. They may have something open.
