Open tables reward points are pretty meager as is, but it's truly pathetic and shortsighted that reward point balances of their members were forfeited during pandemic. I don't understand why no one within the company had the foresight to automatically extend reward points for the users. Also, notoriously difficult to contact non-existent customer service. It doesn't seem like they care or even try to take care of their user. As a nearly 10 year user of their app, I'll be less inclined to use it in the future. I'd rather save my favorite restaurants the related fee they have to pay to open table.

Gift Vouchers - be careful
September 15, 2015

I found a restaurant in the UK that I booked for my parents trip and wedding anniversary. The only way to book and pay was through open table. I needed to cancel this due to changes which I should have had 14 days to do. Unfortunately the no one answered the UK number and the correspondence with Open Tables and service was extremely poor. Rather then understand my situation we went back and forth on multiple occasions until finally someone came to me and said I could not cancel because I had activated the voucher (no idea what this even means, as only received it via email with receipt - if this is activation than on that premises nothing can be cancelled). After all this I had another person come back to me with the same information I provided originally saying I could cancel. What a mess. Would not recommend using this site for bookings or gift vouchers again

I've had 2 experiences with OT that have both been disasters. First I was given a gift card for the Boston area. No one accepted OT gift cards. Never got to use the $150.

Their customer service is as bad as their program. There is no option to speak with someone. They only accept questions through the Internet. The answers are clearly generated by artificial intelligence as the response did not address my question but provided information on the rewards system.

Opentable.com can't be trusted. I made reservations on their site for 9/7/09 at The Red Canary in Chicago. After walking 40 min to find the place, we found out it was closed for the day. My girlfriend asked, 'Why didn't you just call to confirm?" I said, "Because with Opentable.com, you don't have to call, it makes calling redundant." To which she said, "Not if they are as crappy as this."

I will no longer use Opentable.com. In fact, I'm encouraging my friends here and in NYC to stop using it. Caveat Emptor!

They draw you in with promises of "points," which have expiration dates. The so-called 1000-pt tables are routinely not available for any date or time you enter. They also make the search for such confusing. There is NO website contact information readily available. The entire experience just makes me NOT want to visit any restaurants listed. I jogged over to StubHub and was extremely happy with my experience there. Able to quickly and easily log in and order a food delivery from a local Mexican restaurant. Also got $5 off my order.

Great site for finding reservations although it has some major drawbacks: eateries listed are fairly limited; timing of cancellations very different from reservations - you can make one within 30 mins of time you want, but cancelling is 24 hrs in advance. Otherwise, site works great. Also, most restaurant week places are listed on here.

Reward rip off
August 12, 2016

We have finally received our first reward check... They are obviously happy to let this accumulate so you don't redeem it. Tried to use it tonight and the restaurant could not honor it because open table claimed it had been already redeemed at a restaurant 1500 miles away! I will never use this site again... It was convenient and brought new restaurants to our attention but I can see how we have been "taken". Seems to me like someone should start a class action suit against open table! Fraud!

There is now no way to call OpenTable Customer Service anymore; you can only use their chat function, which has long queues and often disconnects on its own before resolving a problem. Remarkably, there is no way to change your email address to replace an old address without setting up a new account and merging the two accounts, which will cancel all your pending reservations and make your dining history inaccessible. This makes no sense at all. Clearly, they don't care at all about inconveniencing their customers. Tell your favorite restaurants to use a different reservation service!

Horrible Rewards Program
February 23, 2018

The only benefit to even use Open Table is if you would rather make a reservation online versus calling. The reward program is a joke. No flexibility, with no changing your mind on which restaurant to use it on. I thought I'd surprise my husband with a nice dinner reservation but when he looked at the menu, he didn't like the options. But too late on the rewards program... I already accepted the 'gift card' and so can only be used there, even though we no longer want to eat there. Asked nicely twice and they gave me the same canned answer with no option for using my reward at another restaurant.

Waste of time
April 9, 2022

Made a reservation, ate at the restaurant, Ruth Chris Steak House last night and tried to contact them today per their instructions. Explained the whole stupid story on their chat, entered it and their automated response was to ask why I contacted them! No one ever available to speak with so no points after the aggravation! Deleted my App after having it for many years, Who needs this, I can call the restaurant myself!
