Do you want to be associated with a company that tolerates, encourages, and covers up for gender and ethnic discrimination occuring on their platform? And that engages in this discimination to discourage highly promising minority voices from expressing politicall sensitive opinions?
I complained to customer service because a reviewer who had read a tiny, minimal number of pages of a book several hundred pages in length left me an abusive review replete with gender discrimination. I was trained as an attorney and know it when I see it. Had the reviewer told me his review in person, I would have called the police for assault. In response, Pubby banned my account, and the reviewer admitted to his discrimination. He deleted that portion of his review and changed his reviewer name to anonymous. Too bad for him, I already have all screenshots. Which I didn't really need because I know the kind well. But it helps to have as evidence.
All of this fails to intimidate me. The reviewer and Pubby are living in the stone ages while humanity is many light years ahead. Which true artist wants to be associated with that?
I am glad this happened. It is always good to see your enemy and how low they fall. Do not use Pubby's services as there are much better and more creative ways to get reviews for about the same price.
Account was suspended after a payment was taken. They refused to refund me or delete my data. Customer service is shocking. What a scam!
Update: I had to contact my bank to get my money back.
Every writer knows how hard it is to get reviews, even from your own family and friends. I have tried other review sites and found them a waste of time, but not Pubby! I have received a great number of honest - sometimes too honest - but honest, reviews, and that's all I can ask for. Easy to work with and well run. I highly recommend Pubby
I've used pubby for about 2 months, and so far my experience has been decidedly positive. Most of the reviews I've seen are detailed and include information about the book being reviewed. I don't think it violates the zon's policies since these aren't direct review exchanges.
As a new, self-published, and/or relatively unknown author, one of the most important things to get is reviews of your book. They can also be some of the hardest things to get. That's why Pubby is such an invaluable asset for indie authors. I'm close to one hundred reviews on Amazon and the vast majority of them are from Pubby reviewers. I wasn't sure I wanted to commit to the $240/year subscription at first so I started out with the free trial, and after the trial was up I had no doubt that I wanted to continue! I highly recommend this service!
This company is designed to spam dishonest reviews, and they have absolutely no ethics. It is nothing short of snake oil salesman. This company charges you a subscription fee to give you nothing in return. You post a book you want reviews of then you earn snaps for giving reviews and spend snaps for requesting reviews. These reviews are posted on Amazon. Then pubby employees watch Amazon to ensure the reviews were posted. If not, they take away your snaps. Authors seek out writing as many reviews as possible to earn snaps quickly to get as many reviews as possible back. The problem is that reviewers don't actually read the books. They read summaries and other pieces of "Information you want the reviewer to know about your book" and they fake reviews. It is common for reviewers to read and write reviews on books hundreds of pages long in just two hours. It's a joke.
On the surface, it looks like this company is trying to support independent authors, but the reality is they are charging you a monthly subscription, in which they give authors nothing and authors do all the work. Pubby is as crooked as they come.
Apart from various pubby problems, pubby doesn't want to issue an invoice (he only sends an "invoice" on which there is only "Pubby.co" without any details of the company, even the country in which they operate or the full name of the company.) The company is completely unreliable, it should be dealt with by the crime fighting services.
I pay for the book for the listed price on Amazon, I read the book in an allotted time and post a review. I get credits. The monthly fee is very small compared to a review site. These are verified reviews. My novel? Someone buys it, that I will never know, they, review the book and there we go. The only thing I am unhappy with is the lack of authors taking advantage of this. The more authors with various genres, the better it will get. Customer service has gotten better, but I could get good with more participation.
I have used Pubby for one year today and will renew for an additional year. The service has worked well for me getting my two books about 35 reviews. I can tell that the majority of reviewers have read my books because of the details in their reviews. In my opinion, all have been reasonable and honest reviews. Nearly all of the reviewers have purchased my book.
Besides getting my books reviewed, I have read about the same number of books from the Pubby library. Most have been good, earning 4 or 5 stars. There have been a few that were not so good and earned 2 or 3 stars. These books have typically had glaring grammatical and errors. I have purchased and read all of the books that I have reviewed. The best part of reviewing books for Pubby authors is that I found a half-dozen books that I thought were excellent.
I have written several books and have always struggled with getting timely and reliable reviews. Nothing seemed to work until I discovered pubby. Now, after several months, I have over 100 reviews and still going strong. Great site with timely responses.
This site would be a great idea if they didn't rope you into paying more. They advertise that in the length of a free trial of ten days you can get 10-15 reviews. You get 2000 snaps, their online currency, when you sign up, but that only allows you to put your book out there for one reader. You have to spend your time earning more snaps by liking or retweeting tweets, or reviewing other books—most of which are listed for sale and are not free downloads. You cannot just upload your book and wait for the reviews to come in. Who has the time to play these games? I'd rather wait for real, organic reviews. It's not worth the experience of a free trial, and it sure isn't worth 240 - 360 dollars a year just to be a member of the site.
I have enjoyed getting reviews and feedback on Pubby and the chance to review other authors' books. Reviews are a lifeline, and Pubby provides a chance for writers to help each other and learn from the experience.
As an independent, and really quite new author, it is hard to get reviews and yet follow Amazons rules properly. The site allows you to do just that. When you read other authors books listed on the Pubby site, you earn points regardless of the review you leave for that book. Likewise other readers can read my books and earn points by reviewing them. I have received many reviews now, especially on a few of my better books! I couldn't be happier now that I found a way to share books amongst readers and get reviews. I will keep reading books on Pubby and getting reviews on my creations!
I like Pubby in that I can upload a book, share it with people and they have to give a review. I say have to because if you don't review other books you don't get the snaps (points) to have your own book reviewed.
Some people don't read the book as is clear by the review they leave. And some other people are simply a critic no matter what. Why choose a book you know you will clash with and then give a bad review when all you want is a good review for your own book.
Basically, it's a great way to get a bunch of reviews for your book on Amazon. Usually they are good, so I will keep doing it.
Almost every review I received on PUBBY was outright fake or highly suspect. The fakes are quite obvious to spot, For example some members will download a book of 100,000 words, then submit a review in a matter of a few hours. The reviews are either one liners or a patchwork cribbed from other posted reviews.
PUBBY has a great chance here but failure to curb the abuses will ultimately ruin it for them. Maybe it's time for Amazon to step in.
Pubby allowed a baseless, negative religious comment, in a review of one of my books, to be posted. I initially was getting great reviews on both of my books on their site then the reviews took a negative turn and I submitted a complaint about one being inaccurate. I received no reply from their administration. Then a few weeks later a very negative religiously biased review was posted and I immediately terminated my membership. I am the author of the book in question and was subscribed to Pubby.
I've had nothing but good experiences with Pubby. Yes, there will be people that don't understand your book and give you a bad review or write just one line. I'm fine with those because it reflects reality that not everyone will like my book or write long reviews. I can say that MOST of my reviews have not been like that and have been great. I have a quality cover and content so I'm not worried. Don't listen to all the whiny babies on here that trash Pubby; they probably have a trash book. Also, for all the babies that say Pubby approves reviews have no idea how the service works. Reviewers leave reviews directly on amazon from their own amazon accounts, Amazon approves the reviews not Pubby. Pubby "approves" that your review is posted and your request is complete. It blows my mind that people think Pubby has a say in what Amazon approves.
Pubby's prices are through the roof. They didn't tell me that international reviews aren't accepted, even though they show up on the. Com marketplace - I awaited further discussion on the issue, then the auto-billed a YEARLY subscription priced at $250.
I canceled before my trial ends in a few days because they stopped me from getting reviews. I reviewed a book and started reviewing another book, only to find the get reviews button on my account deactivated because they cannot verify that I did any reviews. They told me to contact "support" to get the hold removed, but there is NO SUPPORT. I contacted "support" earlier in the trial and received nothing more than an out of office email and no answer for my issue. This is a sham and not worth the few reviews you can get with the service. I found a really good free book and one on Kindle Unlimited to review, but this is more of a platform for people who want to SELL their book AND get a review in the process. Each user will give a review, as you expect reviews in return, but I'm not buying books JUST to review them. I'd rather set up some social media account, give the book away for free, and ask for an honest review than pay these jokers one red cent for this nonsense. If you are thinking of using this system, don't. Pubby will purposefully waste your trial time by preventing you from really using the service. On top of that, you will NEVER get any real customer support for your money; save it or spend it elsewhere. Pubby is a ten on a one to ten BS scale.
Pubby.co and i have been together for a year. We have had no real complaints except unfair reviews given by people who can't see Real content. Pubby is easy to use and i have had no real problems with them.
Answer: Very hard to get a response. Terrible customer service
Answer: That is your subscription price. Did you reach out to support to ask why you have not received any reviews? Support has been awesome.
Answer: You can charge a small fee. You will get more reviews if you offer a free read via pdf, epub or via kindle unlimited.
Answer: Pubby is an actual company but scammy in their practice and I wouldn't be surprised if it is a cover for a scam. The service is horrible and prevents you from moving forward, keeping you locked into the service. I canceled during my trial because of the crappy service. They take longer than four hours to "approve" your book. They hold you up from getting reviews, deactivating the button that lets you request reviews, even after you have reviewed books. They claim not to know if you have written reviews and ask you to contact support to reactivate the button on your account, but there is no real customer support. So, essentially, they deactivate your account so you cannot get reviews while they take your money and get reviews from you. I say don't bother.
Pubby has a rating of 2.6 stars from 123 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Pubby ranks 175th among Product Reviews sites.
