Ravelry has a rating of 3.1 stars from 510 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with Ravelry most frequently mention fiber arts, white supremacy, and social media. Ravelry ranks 1st among Yarns sites.
If you knit or crochet then you need this site for patterns, yarn reviews, friendship with other fiber artists and education in your craft. This is run by a small but amazing staff who are extremely responsive to all of your needs. And it's free!
I have only purchased one pattern through ravelry, the money was taken but I have not received the pattern. I've messaged ravelry and the designer directly through their own website and have had no response from either! Very disappointing as the pattern was lovely!
I've enjoyed using Ravelry for several years, but was shocked in late June when the company banned Trump supporters, has deleted several patterns that I consider pro-American and pro-faith, and reportedly has shut down conservative discussion forums. Yet F-bomb patterns, Obama support and $#*! hats are readily available. I'm not interested in profanity and political statements in my crafting, and if I'm not going to champion LGBTQ, apparently I am no longer welcome in Ravelry. So be it. There are many options for patterns and yarn out there.

I've used Ravelry for years. It's great for finding new patterns, new yarns, and keeping track of your current patterns and yarns. There are lots of diverse groups full of supportive people to help you learn new skills and cheer on your current projects.

Was with them since the beginning, but no more. Liberal idiots who call all Trump supporters White Supremacist. Hows that for flushing your business down the drain? Why is a mAGA hat pattern Hate Speech and it's ok for a F**K Trump hat pattern?

Patterns, designers, yarn reviews, some awesome groups... All around it is an awesome site. There are some groups I choose to not participate in and that is absolutely fine. The upsides to Ravelry far exceeds the downsides.

The site owner, Casey/Cassidy Forbes is mentally ill and lashes out at random people! He is aided and abetted by the Ravelry Rubberneckers who routinely stalk and dox those with whom they disagree. Post at your own risk!

They have quite a number of nonsense limitations in the way you post the picture of your craft pattern (eg: you can't have the word ‘pattern' in your picture!?). And they will have a person to edit your post to Their liking, and the way they leave you a ‘advice' for editing is just RUDE! Dear my young crafter friends, stay away from them if you can (their community is mostly middle aged anyway).

They allow the harassment of conservative users, while labeling things like campaign slogans (keep America great) or religious patterns (God is love) as hate speech. The so called white supremacists that they banned from their site were any people with patriotic patterns/avatars (for example, a Betsy Ross avatar is unacceptable, but Kathy Griffin holding Trump's severed head is fine), Christian views, or political views that opposed their own. This is not inclusive. Its divisive and stomps on the freedom of expression that Americans are accustomed to enjoying. It is hate disguised by a diversity statement, and anyone who agrees blindly and doesn't dig deeper into the cause is buying into this farce.

Things I like about them: vast database of patterns and yarn info
Things I don't like about them: the technology they use is ancient and the site hasn't been updated in many years.
Also, they are allowing politics to seep into all of the craft threads and that's not good. If you want craft info, as I did, you still are subjected to their politics.
If you want patterns try another site like allfreeknitting or freepatterns. If you want forums check out the knitting groups on Facebook. Ravelry will just drive you nuts.

Please tell me how I am a white supremacist because I support Trump? How? By enforcing the law? By making the border safe, that makes him a racist. Sure.
Imagine if a conservative site did the same thing to Obama supporters... oh wait we wouldn't.
It is a privately owned site that fluffs it's numbers to get ad dollars and they have every right to ban whatever they feel keeps the snowflakes from melting and I have the right to never visit the site again or anyone that supports them. The absolute biggest bullies there could ever be. So glad there will be alternatives that are technically more up to date than this dumpster fire (which is where all my Rav gear is going, bags and T-shirt all garbage).

Sadly the racist us citizens can't understand that they are wrong in their ways. Ravelry takes a stand. In favour for all yarniacs, worldwide, against white supremacy.
Great webside, great founders, great people there and lots of georgeous patterns!

Not a website for knitters anymore. It's a place to complain about Trump, revel in hate speech against various religious groups and virtue signal to your heart's content. The underlying bigotry and sexism is cringy. Users are strongly encouraged to report wrong-think to the admins.
Ravelry might appeal to people who believe that minorities need rich white folks to fix the world for them by turning it into a gulag, Should be sponsored by Antifa.

If bigotry, mediocrity, virtue signaling, censorship, cancel culture, created outrage, fascism and hatred are your thing, Ravelry is for you.
Otherwise, stay far far away.
Not a site for knitting and other needlecrafts as it purports, Rather, it's main, albeit unstated, purpose is to host and support far-left ideology and viciously attack anyone doesn't lockstep with them. I was a founding member, left for several years, rejoined, and recently left again voluntarily due to the owners's prejudicial and horrific "rules" for the site,

I joined Ravely years ago when I was only seeking patterns. I found so much more when I started talking on the forums! There is a wonderful community of people from around the world to help ans support you as a crafter and as a person. Plus, free access to all those patterns!

Best site for all things knitting/crocheting related. Best resource to find patterns, ideas, yarn reviews, help, KALs, and community.
Takes seriously the safety of its members. Very small group bent out of shape they are no longer allowed to use site for hate speech. Business owners and moderators have worked for years to deal with these hateful trolls (some of whom have harassed others via doxxing and threats).

I found ravelry a few years ago and thought it was a nice site to find some new patterns to try out. Turns out the site is run by open bigots who will ban people they disagree with (anyone who supports trump) and call them nazis. I've never posted anything about my support for our president, but I can't continue to use a site which is run by intolerant children. Goodbye ravelry, and may you burn in hell.
By the way, their site is horribly insecure and I know for a fact that they store their passwords in plaintext.

It's a great place for finding patterns. But! Post roll-out "new" skin 2020:
Accessibility is not top-priority. People's feedback is not welcome unless it's praise. Every critical voice is silenced. Period!
Communication is non-existent.
Everything is fine and dandy on the surface and oh so inclusive, but the archives and the actions tells a very different story.
For years thousands of people - a lot of them disabled -have made a huge effort to contribute their money, time and patterns, have helped and made the database and the community what it is. Exclution is a very poor way to thank them.
The message is clear however: if you can't use the site anymore due to accessability issues - too bad for you - hit the road.
Time to vote with the feet. Done.

I've been on Ravelry for almost a decade. I've enjoyed the various patterns and stash stalking. The forums are interesting and like any forum, one does has to take with a grain of salt what's in there. There are people who like to provoke individuals just to get the reaction they want. There are others who truly are there to help. I know one of the forums I watch helped out immensely when an indie dyer was unable to keep up with production and disappeared.
The site is an excellent resource for the new and experienced knitter. I have made new friends on there as well as done some of the swaps.
Personally I like the site and think it's a value for the newbie as well as the experienced knitter.

Sad. Should be able to support the President, irregardless of who or what he/she is. That is tolerance. Should be able to support even a poor President, without it making me a certain kind of person. The site literally said to support any part of the current administration is to be a horrible person. (I won't say what they said.)

Then they decided that even though I had never posted on any forums, and had only 3 friends, I wasn't allowed to use their website anymore.
They promised that I would always have access to the patterns I had bought. I am not.
They won't let me download my patterns, or even try to get my photos and stash logs off the site.
The reason I am not allowed? I belong to a political party. Keep in mind that I have never posted to a forum. Ever.

Excluding Conservatives, Christians, Trump supporters somehow makes Ravelry an inclusive site? The amount of hate speech used by Ravelry users that have aligned themselves with this ludicrous policy is beyond offensive. Left Supremacists have infiltrated this site and have made it exclusive, not inclusive. Toxic, groupthink, radicals are attempting to align businesses and many do not know or understand the politics that reign over knitting and crochet. $#*! hats are allowed, MAGA hats are not. Who needs that kind of discrimination and disparaging comments and rants from the left?

I absolutely LOVE ravelry. It's the #1 resource for knitters and crocheters, it's got a huge directory of patterns (free and you can even buy online pdfs from designers, books, magazines, etc) and yarns as well. People can review or comment on patterns and yarns which is uber helpful. Patterns and yarns are also organized by color, gauge, type, etc so it's indispensable for finding a variety of items. If I want to find a pattern to knit - say a scarf for males in worsted weight, ravelry is the place to search. They also have a handy way to list yarn for the purposes of trading or selling, which I've found useful in destashing. Destashing groups also help with getting rid of yarn and magazines. Basically, ravelry can do no wrong!

I don't know where to start... I'm one of the "white supremacists" that Ravelry's owners decided needed to be silenced. If things were reversed and it were people of color being silenced, the world would burn.
I just don't get it, I guess if you're hate-filled, Ravelry would be perfect.

Ravelry instituted a policy of no trump support/supporters allowed, justifying it with the reason all trump supporters are racists. All patterns and discussion of patriotism are banned, however one can buy patterns that celebrate anti-semitism, and that are vulgar/inappropriate (vagina, penis patterns, $#*! trump hats, etc)
Since they instituted this, they have enabled the SJWs in the community and vicious attacks of conservatives and liberals who sided with conservatives (over this discrimination) all over social media

Ravelry didn't ban politics or Trump supporters, they just said that Trump support on the website isn't allowed. And that's their right. And if you have an issue with Trump support becoming synonymous with hate speech, you should think about why and try to get the GOP to fix that. Thanks, Rav!

I have had an account with and purchased many patterns through Ralvery for approximately 6 years. Due to their recent change in policy, I had no choice but to delet my account.
I have never shared anything political on the Ralvery group.
They have a right to make their policy as they choose; however, I cannot and will not remain affilated with a group that judges and lables our President and anyone who supports him "white supremacist".
WOW! I can't even wrap my head around this kind of delusional thinking.
I don't know how a knitting group becomes such a decisive group, but I'm sorry to say it has.
They say they will not allow any hate speech, however their own policy IS hate speech.
