Ravelry has a rating of 3.1 stars from 510 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with Ravelry most frequently mention fiber arts, white supremacy, and social media. Ravelry ranks 1st among Yarns sites.
If you knit or crochet then you need this site for patterns, yarn reviews, friendship with other fiber artists and education in your craft. This is run by a small but amazing staff who are extremely responsive to all of your needs. And it's free!
I have only purchased one pattern through ravelry, the money was taken but I have not received the pattern. I've messaged ravelry and the designer directly through their own website and have had no response from either! Very disappointing as the pattern was lovely!
I was a member for 8 years and I'm one of the people the owners called a white supremacist. They've always been lazy and left learning, but to consider "MAGA" hate speech, but not ACTUAL hate speech, like calling us White Supremacists is just delusional. Their minions don't even know the difference between INclusuon and EXclusion. You can't be INclusive by EXcluding an entire class of citizens! The dumb is astonishing! May their site go down in a rolling $hitball of flames. I can find patterns elsewhere.

I used to love this website. Now it's just full of hate. It ruined a fun hobby. There is a lot of vulgar language on the website. They attack people just for using acrylic yarn.

Ravelry has incredible resources for materials, tools, and patterns. You can search several different ways to help find new projects. You can track your own supplies. Search for patterns using your yarn. Track your in-progress and complete projects. It's an organizer's dream.
There are also discussion fora. Many discuss fiber arts. You can get assistance from experienced knitters. Meet fellow enthusiasts of different techniques. The depth of expertise that the site can bring together is amazing.
Other fora are purely social. In some of those, there have been political discussions. As the fiber arts world has been discussing inclusion and (unintentional?) exclusion, the owners decided to make the space as welcoming for as many as possible. In their opinion, support of the Trump administration was support for its racist, nationalist, and sexist policies. They elected not to host support of the current administration on their site. They didn't ban anyone. They elected not to host language they determined was bigotry.
Use of fora is not mandatory to use Ravelry. I support their decision to exclude racism, sexism, etc. The 1-star reviews are not based on the site itself.

They got political, so I left the website days shy of a decade with them. Political hate speech does not belong on a crafting community website. Take your business elsewhere.

People waste their time on making some stupid $#*! Website is unusable and constantly crashing. Making an account takes way to long and the whole thing is just a shambles.

Put on your big girl panties and get ready to rock and roll. Ravelry welcomes ALL types and people from all countries and walks of life. Patterns are input by designers and are not censored. ALL PATTERNS from EVERYWHERE are on Ravelry, not just special patterns created for the site. Knitting, hooking, machine knitting, looming, everything. Are you right wing? There's groups for that. Are you liberal? There's groups for that too. Is there drama? Hell yes, make some popcorn and join the rubbernecker group. It's pretty funny watching the right wing nuts get their panties in a twist because Ravelry celebrates PRIDE or allows patterns that aren't to their political views or tastes --- and yet they cry about "snowflakes" having meltdowns? Obs they can dish it out but can't take it themselves as evidenced by the whiny reviews here about "socialists" and "political patterns" and "LACK OF TOLERANCE." WUT? Tolerance goes both ways...

Ravelry has turned into a bullying fascist site and is not longer safe for everyone. It's only safe if you think exactly like the bullies. Sad that they think they are the moral Gods...

I'm a longtime Ravelry member and love the patterns and inspiration that I've found there. I shocked though not all that surprised there are people who prefer their knitting with a side of bigotry.

love this site. i use it for patterns, interacting with other knitters, comparing and indexing my yarn, etc. i'm so proud of the admins for taking a stand against white supremacy and racism.

BLACK LIVES ONLY MATTER IF YOU DONT HAVE READABILITY ISSUES
PERFORMATIVE BS
Woke owners should write a book on how to ruin a brand
They almost succeeded last year banning Trump but this year is the final nail in the coffin
WARNING
Site has caused seizures
New designer Livia who failed Elizabeth Warren campaign took a year rebranding
Owners actually approved her design destroying a fiber community by excluding the disabled
Seriously who likes dropped shadow buttons?
Designers linking to patterns should be held liable for damages!
CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ANYONE?

Such an inspiring website. Encouraging members making a safe haven for fibre crafters. I love all the patterns and regularly get lost down a rabbit hole.

Ignore the recent influx of negative reviews by hate filled individuals. This site provides knitters and crocheters with a bounty of information. 5 stars isn't enough!

A great source for every yarn or fiber need PLUS a huge and supportive community that doesn't allow hate speech. What more could one want? 10ish year member here.

So, I have been told in no uncertain terms that on Ravelry.com a knit hat pattern that says "Trump 2020" and a knit scarf that says "Make America Great Again" are banned, but a scarf that LITERALLY says "F#$% Trump" is ok and "protected by free speech". I don't know how you sleep at night, Ravelry.

I've made friends that have been in my life for over a decade now, and my entire knitting life is archived there. Also super proud of their commitment to inclusivity.

After being a user for years I opted to opt out due to a ton of negativity on the site and politicization. Can find patterns elsewhere without the politics.
Date of experience: September 13, 2019
They say "no hate" (ok, I agree there,,) then they say a hat that says "MAGA" is hate but a hat that says "f*ck Trump" is not hate. They allow their users to relentlessly harass people bc they disagree politically, and should that person say ANYTHING back, they're banned. It's fascism. And it's disappointing.

Extensive library of free and paid for patterns, you can stash and keep track of your yarns, go to the forums for advice and show off your projects. It's am amazing site full of wonderful people.

I love having access to so many patterns and the people who provide them. Ive been a member for a long time and pick up knitting and walk away from it every now and then. Rav is always there.
Date of experience: July 13, 2019
Beware the site caters to what most would term flakes, fringe, extremes. Usually I just used the pattern link, because in the other areas they preach their nonsense from Wicca- to atheism, etc

Ravelry is and always will be the best platform for managing your patterns, yarns and needles. Yes, they're are forums, but some people seem to be unaware that one can use Ravelry without using the forums at all! Though, if you need help or advice there are many places where you can ask for and receive assistance. There are many forums where you can just talk about knitting and politics isn't allowed. Sure, there are areas where you can, if you do choose, discuss politics or any number of things in an reasonable adult manner.
ALL THEY SAID IS NO HATE SPEECH. They did not ban Trump supporters. They disallowed hate speech. So why are all these people so mad? Is it because they are planning to do some hate speech? Because if all y'all really want is to knit/crochet then why is all this upsetting you all so much? Just close your mouths, avoid the forums, and knit ffs.
For people who find Ravelry after all this mess fades away, do give it a chance. I think you'll like it. It's so much more than all of this current drama, I promise.

Ravelry is seriously the best website in the whole wide world. Ive met my best friends there, I've learned so many things, and have experienced moments I wouldn't find anywhere else.

I left Ravelry after reading their "No Trump policy".
Just a small section of their bigoted policy...
https://www.ravelry.com/content/no-trump
We are banning support of Donald Trump and his administration on Ravelry.
This includes support in the form of forum posts, projects, patterns, profiles, and all other content. Note that your project data will never be deleted. We will never delete your Ravelry project data for any reason and if a project needs to be removed from the site, we will make sure that you have access to your data. Even if you are permanently banned from Ravelry, you will still be able to access any patterns that you purchased. Also, we will make sure that you receive a copy of your data.
We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.
The Community Guidelines have been updated with the following language: "Note that support of President Trump, his administration, or individual policies that harm marginalized groups, all constitute hate speech."
Unprofessional, rude and just unacceptable.

When any organization calls all people of any single race by a derogatory term and then bans them from speaking or even just because of their race, it is a place to stay away from.

They have taken a stand against the president of the United States Of America. I'm just a knitter, crochet, spinner girl who believes in freedom not hate!
