We haven't received any payback yet. It has been 17 days that we returned the car. I have never have such problem with other companies. I will certainly not recommend this company to anyone. Their explanation was not enough and didn't satisfy. I have all rights to write about this awful experience to online comments in every car hire platform..
Do not use rentalcars.com. I did last week. They charge additional money for the returning a car in different, than pick up location ( about $50), but when came to collect the car in Finland from Europcar ( all deal was fully prepaid) In local office of Europcar insisted to charge another 148 euro

Rentalcars.com charged me $154 to book a compact car in advance. The car rental agency then charged me an additional $175 in taxes/fees when I picked up the car (plus a $200 security deposit, which was expected, and which I got back at the time of return).
While Rentalcars.com's fine print mentioned there'd be taxes/fees at the time of pickup, nowhere does it list estimated costs of all those taxes/fees, nor does it say "Beware! All of these taxes/fees may add up to more than the price of your rental!" In the end, their total sum relative to the price of the car itself was actually absurd.
Basically, Rentalcar.com's website presents a falsely low rental price to suckers like me by removing the bulk of the costs and hiding them in their fine print (without ever providing you with the actual estimated cost of taxes/fees before booking). That's textbook shadiness. I will not be booking through Rentalcars.com again, and I'd advise you not to either!

I wouldn't even give them one star. I pre-paid almost $300 for a car rental. Got to the counter when I arrived at the airport. I did not have enough room on my credit card for a deposit on the car. That's fine, I understand the policy. I moved on to Stix rental car (which was wonderful)! Rentalcars.com will not refund my $279.11 for a car I never ended up renting from them. Now I am having to dispute this claim through my credit card company. What a hassle. I think I'd rather use public transportation then deal with this company again.

After dropping off my car I got an extra bill for $305.00.
I was expecting the airport fee of $30 approx but was charged for liciencing fee and a road useage fee that was not told to me at time of booking. In addition I was told if the car need gas at drop off their prices are comparable.
They charged me over 2pounds per litre when the going rate is only 1.3 litre. Nearly double.
Complete rip off, ask about the extra costs up front, don't trust them to tell you or inform you of anything.

I'm Fernando Del Fiol, from Brazil. I rented a prepaid car on Rentalcars.com (#783 971 552) over a year ago. I paid 506.00US$. 45 days before taking the car I canceled the reservation. I have been trying for 60 days for my refund and Rentalcars just doesn't refund the money. Every day Rentalcars presents a different reason for not returning the money (the money will be deposited, the money is in the finance department, we had problems with the system...). Don't rent cars from them. If you need to cancel, they don't refund anything and keep the customers' money. Run away from that company.

I purchased the services of rentalcars.com and the precharged my credit card. When i went to pick up the car at the kiosk, the attendant informed me that there would be a mandatory insurance fee of $100 (62% mark up on the original price). The attendant was apologetic and says that this frequently happens with rentalcars.com. Given the new price, i declined the service and immediately contacted rentalcars.com to cancel the service. The company sent me an email one day later saying they allowed me to cancel the service but would issue no refund. I have called several times to the company, but I could not speak with anybody with decision making power. All correspondence was very bureaucratic. There whole business model is to offer something cheap by hiding (high) fees. I would not recommend this service to anybody. It was not that much cheaper to begin with. The offer a product that has a true price very different that advertised. In the end, I was out $150 with no car rental.

Do not let these thieves to spoil your holidays like they did with mine. Pitty I cannot give them 0 stars, cause that's what they deserve. Be smart and choose whichever other company but this and don't let yourself be decieved and robbed. If you choose this company anyway, I strongly recommend to inform yourself well before you make y reservation of your car or you risk to loose the ammount of your money that equals 3 days rental. Never again with this mafia!

We pre-paid an SUV mid size via rentalcars.com.
They assigned us EUROPCAR costa rica (san jose airport)
We got there and car was not available when it was guaranteed to be there.
Others, the same day in the same office, had to face the same issue.
We were given no choice after 1 hr waiting: smaller car or nothing! With 2 kids, had to accept. Made travelling for 2 weeks quite uncomfortable.
Now fighting with rentalcars.com for a refund when it should be automatic! I paid for a car I never got, got a smaller one and no money back yet after more thab 3 weeks! What a joke... just unacceptable. Pityful customer service from both companies.
Use other third parties and other car rental suppliers!

I did a booking ith rentalcar on the 11 of November for a car that was listed as available for the next day. I paid my booking. 5 min later I got a call from the rental company and an email stating they couldn't rent me the car as there were no cars available. They mentioned they couldn't reimburse me as it was through the website.
I have contacted rental cars several time, they refuse to reimburse me.
In summary, they let me book a car while none was available and now they don't want to reimburse me.
Tip for consumers:
Do not use the website, when they can't rent you the car because none is available you cannot get refunded.

I am bitter that they are allowed to rip people off. They are a totally fraudulant company. Unfortunately, they have ripped me off for returning a car early. Charging me for days I did not even have the car.
Disgusting business practice on their part, but all of our bad reviews have done nothing to stop them.

They charge you money for an insurance, nothing else! You are traveling with the idea that you got a cheap car and when you arrive to the desk... they told you the real price of the car!
So... Rentalcars is just an intermediary who charge you money make you believe that this is the finale price.

Not profesional company with very bad support. Software is not common enough for different reservations. For example, when you are landing on one of two or three airports in the city software does not have support for this, software has support only for one or main airports and without codes of the airport. Everything is confusing if you are not a power user of airports and rental

Today I hired a car. Only to then be told ny the supplier that the car wasn't available at my chosen collection point, but 15 miles away. I had luggage and an injured leg. The car was just to go home for the weekend. Instead I chose to not take much luggage and use the train. I called Rentalcars.com five times. One agent was rude. The other didn't know what I was talking about. In the end I had to explain in detail five times before being put on hold, once was for about 25 minutes in all and another time was for about 15 minutes. They disconnected my call each time. They said they couldn't issue a refund. In the end I had £54.66 refunded while they took £81.44 for a cancellation fee. Their website says they fully refund must cancellations and they advertise cars which aren't available. So I had to go to the ombudsman

Same as everyone else review. Sad that I read the reviews after I had a problem with them rather than before booking.
My flight got delayed and I arrived about one hour late. My pickup time was 11 pm and the local agency closed at midnight. I slept on the floor of the front door until 7am when they opened to find out that my car was rented out to someone else for a higher rate. They said my reservation was cancelled automatically because I wasn't there at 11pm. The agency told me to fill out a form after the trip for reimbursement and gave me another car which I had to pay cash for about double the original booking. After completing the form the answer I received was: sorry we don't do refunds.
They charged me at the time of the reservation so they had my money like two months prior to my trip. I called them over the phone several times and I even emailed their CEO. Total waist of time.
This company is horrible. They should be ashamed of themselves for the way they do business.

We have rented a panda in Prat, Barcelona last Thursday 21/6-18 & were rather apprehensive having read all the horror stories about rip-offs, insurance scams, endless waiting & extra charges...
We could just say no thanks to extra insurance & other options when Andrea proposed them. We got the car fast even where there several clients before us.
We reserved a deposit as we have a credit card & not just a debet.
Fiat was rather new & clean -there was a scratch in the front & missing anatena & this was noted in the protocol. Minor scratches were not noted as they should be over 5cm.
We returned the car clean & with full tank without any problem.
We got real value for our money...

Booked a medium size car and pick up at the airport paid deposit, then paid in full, then they changed the size of the car to a small one and changed pick up location via shuttle bus they didnt tell me they had changed it, still charged me same price for medium size car to small car phoned up told them not happy on phone for ages arguing with them, cancelled and they kept £30 deposit not told that they keep deposit, finally got a refund it should have been £161.04 looked on my card statement and they kept another £30 challenged them and they said it was the banks fault they had proof that they refunded me in full but clearly in black & white on my card statement online it says they only paid me £131.04, I paid £191.04 in total so should have got back £161.04 so still owe me £30 threatened them with court if they dont refund the rest. What a really awful company and there customer service is zero... i will defo not be booking with them again

I reserved and prepaid for a car but was told after waiting 40 minutes for a shuttle that no car would be available for over 2 hours. This was at nearly 11pm at night. I called the following Monday to attempt to get a refund and was told that no refund would be issue because I had not called the rentalcars.com back at 11pm at night while attempting to reserve another car.

I did not read the fine print that once I booked I would not be able to cancel or change anything. So once we arrived in Albuquerque we went to the Hertz desk to pick up our car was when we found out we couldn't change the car size or the driver. Hertz said because I booked with carrental.com that they could do not changes, so then we had to pay $14 a day for an extra driver (I only wanted to change from myself to my husband). Be the time they added tax and other fees it came to $225.20! What a rip off!

After booking my car through rentalcars.com I called the rental company and was advised that the office will be closed and I will not be able to pick up the car. I cancelled the reservation and was charged 80% of the booking as a cancellation fee. I called the customer service number in order to ask for a refund as it is not my fault I had to cancel and was put on hold for 20 mins with no answer. I then went onto the chat where the agent advised me to call another number and then proceeded to close the chat on his own. I called the second number and was put on hold for 15 mins before someone answered. The agent told me he cannot refund me and when I ask to speak to the supervisor he hung up the phone. I called again and then time was put on hold for 20mins before I was put through to someone. I talked to the same person who then put me through to the supervisor which did nothing to help and did not even care. This company is the worst company I have ever dealt with.

If you want to be guaranteed the vehicle type you book, Rentalcars.com aren't the people you'll be wanting to book with.
Booked a SUV, rental outfit handed over a saloon. Nothing else to be done about it. Unable to do half of the things I'd planned.
Customer services dragged their feet over it (for over a month) before handing over a derisory 'offer of goodwill'.
Wish I'd gone direct.

I had 2 flights cancelled and when I went to pick up my car a week later in Oxford UK in September 2022, there was no car available as I was a "no show" and they refused to refund me my money, a very devious organization. Do not rent a car from these crooks.

I was NOT shown the full cost of the purchase, so was under the impression the full rental amount with insurance would be R2995. But, I was unexpectedly charged R5000. I was shocked because this is only shown after payment is taken off your account. I trusted the company because it appears on HIPPO.COM. What the F'n F***?

Total rip off got scared into taking out extra insurance of 250 euros in Germany or face a 1000 euro bill which I had to get back from them for the hire car even though I had taken out full protection, never again use proper hire firms, this was also more than the value of the hire I will bring this up with my credit card company.
