Fraudsters/Criminals. This company gets you involved with Eurocars in Cancun Mexico. Then the problem begins. The insurance they sell you is not accepted and when you get to Cancun the price triples. Fraud. Unless you pay a $20,000 deposit. If you read the reviews you will see hundreds of others with the same experiences.
They cancelled my booking without notifying me; I turned up there and there was no car available; my whole travel plan was ruined since all other providers were sold out.
Terrible customer service over the phone; they hold me 30 min on hold when I asked to talk to manager and they disconnect the call before talking to the manager
I tried rentalcars.com a few times and now I decided not to use them anymore. I tried to call them up for 2 days and has never been able to get hold of them. This is terrible. I was charged additional comprehensive insurance at the car rental counter as the car rental company(Thrifty) said that my rentalcar booked through rentalcars did not come with insurance. I wanted to to clarify this with rentalcars.com but unable to get hold of them. This is scary. Imagine you had an accident and wanted to talk to them. As far as the rental car company is concerned, there was no insurance.
So - for safety and peace of mind, I suggest you stay away from rentalcars.com
Unethical for sure: they know there is a recurring problem with debit/credit cards and only leave it in the T&C - realising full-well that the deals aren't half as good if they would be clearer about the issue. In the end, they wanted to charge me double what the booking first cost at the counter (ie telling the first!) - and the same happened to others in line - in my country, Hungary, credit cards are not the norm, everyone uses debit cards. I refused to pay, rented a car at another company (Avis - for some reason they were fine with my debit card) and it cost about the same as the surcharge i would have had to pay for my Rentalcars.com booking. I contacted them, they knew the issue before I spelled it out and refused to refund... Sounds like a scam to me.
This was my first time using this website for a car rental and it would be my last. I've never experienced such a horrible service until today. I called them after I left from the pick up place for my rental because beside the money I had already paid they were trying to add another $900. On the booking website the deposit or any other charges were shown. The deposit is understandable, but there was no explanation for the rest of the money they were charging us. I called them spoke to a representative and they told me that since I had already left the place without a car they were not able to help me or return my money. I wouldnt have mind taking the car if they would've explained to me the charges added, but no one had an explanation so I left with no car and according to the representative I can't get my money back. AVOID THIS PLACE.
Stay away from this company. They did not properly disclose to me which I made the reservation that the actual rental car rental company requires an international driver's license in Greece. The car rental company staff told me at the airport that they cannot rent a car to me. They told me I should contact the rentalcars.com and try will refund the deposit. The company has refused to make a full refund so far. I'll take my case to my credit card company. US citizens should stay away from this company.
I have a very bad experience with this rentalcars. I booked a car for one week and I don't have international driver license. When I came to pick up they didn't get me the car. Okay, it's okay, BUUUT! They charged me all the amount! For a week! I have no refund at all…
Initially, I thought this was a good price but I ended up paying more than 500 euros for the smallest car (VW Polo) for 6 days in Italy. When i get to cancel the reservation, it wasn't gonna give me full refund snd charge me 250 euro for it. I was at loss no matter what. Then, I ended up returning the car 2 days sooner than scheduled, but yet, they wont give me refund whatsoever. This was the most expensive Polo I've ever driven. I could've driven an Audi or mercedes for 100 bucks a day.
I'll never use it again.
We hired a car through Rentalcars.com for our trip to Cairns, Australia. After I booked the car, I decided to research the company and came upon all the negative comments on sitejabber and I became worried because of all the negative feedback. Well, my experience with rentalcars.com has been nothing but positive. We arrived in Cairns, went to the Hertz office and picked up our car. No hassles. I also purchased the insurance through them. We had no accident with the car so we are unable to comment on the insurance offered through rentalcars.com. We would have no hesitation to deal with rentalcars.com again.
Buyer beware. www.rentalcars.com may not be a direct scam, but they have consciously and knowingly been an agent for scamming and deliberately misleading car rental companies for years now. They know this, yet they refuse to stop conducting business with fraudulent organizations. This makes them complicit in and accessory to fraud. They are a willful medium of fraud on a massive number of consumers.
When I wanted to extend the lease of a car in Sicily, they told me I had to return the car and do a new rental. I was at the other end of Sicily. Bureaucratic incompetent idiots, with total disregard for the customer needs.
Due to the fact our flight to Munich was delayed as we spent a few hours stuck on the tarmac at Nurenberg after being redirected because of a bad storm, our car was no longer available on arrival at Munich and we had to pay for a very expensive upgrade, despite having paid in full prior to departure.
I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole in future.

Booked a car though these "UK based website"
Th car rental refused to rent me the car because they asking for my flight information.
Called car rental website and they refused to refund me the money that I paid.
Zero star for this one
I recently did a car rental through Rentalcars. I returned the car before the early, for a 30 day rental returned after 15 days. The car rental company told me that they will refund the unused period. Rentalcars refuses to refund. It's better to go directly to the rental company than use this. Their support is useless and totally unhelpful. I would recommend to not use this at all.
Waited for a confirmation around 1 week for a booking, in the meantime i talked with the operators that recommend me to wait a little bit more. After 1 week during a call with them they told me that i can rent from somewhere else if i find. When i deed the booking with them i had several options from where i could rent, with 5 days before departure no option was available anymore. Thank you rentalcars for the way you treat your costumers.
Despite the fact that the reservation said cancellation was free up until 3 days before the booking, the link to "cancel the booking" goes back to the homepage and doesn't provide any way to cancel. There is no phone number to contact anyone, and using their email contact link simply sends the message into the ether. No reply. No confirmation of the message being sent/received. I tried several times to cancel a reservation 2 weeks prior to travelling. Never got a reply. I eventually worked with my credit card company to reverse the charge -- again PRIOR to travelling, during the time window when cancelling without a charge is supposedly premitted. Two weeks AFTER my trip, I get an email from rentalcars.com saying they have cancelled my reservation, refunded $0 and charged me a "cancellation fee" for the entire cost of the rental. What? DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
I prepaid my reservation in Greece. Rental car company did not arrive to pick me up at airport and hung on me when I called to inquire. I needed to rent another car at the airport. When I tried to get refund from Rentalcars.com they refused.
Avoid rentalcars.com at all costs. They are scamming people trough their " term of conditions" playing the same game of "Rentalcars.com". Wherever see a deal on internet about them... stay away! They are professional scammers. The rentalcars.com charge my debit card to get a car from Dollar Rent a Car UAE but the employee ( Imran) refused to charge the same card for deposit saying that I must hold a credit card in order to get the car. Rentalcars.com and Dollar rent a car UAE are super scammers. Stay away from these two companies if you need to rent a car. Their term of conditions are full of crap. Period.
Had a horrible experience with this company. A debit card was charged on May 12th 2017 for $140.41 for a rental car in San Juan rented via Dollar rent acar. Upon returning the vehicle another credit card was used to settle the bill. Therefore the company got paid twice. Bank statement were requested, although is was presented the company refuses to honor a requested refund. Please, Please people do not do any online or otherwise business with this company. They are not reputable, this company is running a fraud scheme.
Price is always cheaper, but they force you to take their overpriced insurance (insurance was twice the price of the car rental!). Even if my car Insurance and my credit card provide insurance, they refuse to waive the insurance, telling us it is mandatory in Costa Rica. Beware of this company!
Answer: Good luck with that one, I'm in the same boat, I'm going to pass my situation on to the travel doctor at the Sunday Times.
