ShopGoodWill Reviews Summary

The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and shipping practices, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction over exorbitant shipping fees, poor item descriptions, and inadequate packing leading to damaged goods. Many reviews highlight a perceived shift from a community-focused mission to a profit-driven approach, resulting in a loss of customer trust. While some long-time customers appreciate the variety of items available, the overwhelming sentiment reflects frustration with the lack of transparency, responsiveness, and support. This feedback suggests a pressing need for the company to reassess its customer service policies and shipping practices to enhance overall satisfaction.

I have purchased thousands of dollars of merchandise from this auction site. I say "purchased" in a past tense because I haven't purchased anything in the past 4 months. Overpriced reserves, outrageous shipping fees, and now "handling" fees that border on the absurd. No more. Wait until the next recession... this auction site will get hammered. I have to believe they have lost a lot of regulars like me. Ridiculous.

SGW Techies are in on the Scam
November 20, 2017
Previous review

Tried to bid on item 40 seconds before auction end (at TWICE the winning bid!). "Place Bid" pop up was foggy and would not accept my click. THE AUCTION WAS STILL ACTIVE. I called the seller (Goodwill Industries of Akron, OH) and talked to the online sales person. She told me to file a support ticket she would forward to the SGW techies in California. NO RESPONSE. I filed a request for instructions to lodge a formal complaint. NO RESPONSE. This tells me the techies are involved in rigging bids. Over the years I have spent well over $1,000.00 with them. They won't root out the thieves in their organization & provide no protocol for customers to complain. They stole my $307.77 bid https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/45554153

Overpriced shipping, overpriced merchandise that they received for free and now they have the nerve to put reserves on items to make even more money. The little guy can't win a nice item for a fair price now as they make sure to set reserves to get the least that they will accept for something they got for free. Hello! You didn't pay for the item so you should be glad if you make a dollar off of it. Goodwill is getting very greedy. What do they actually do with the money? I see commercials saying they help people but I have never seen this taking place in my community like you see the Red Cross or Salvation Army doing things to help those in need. The fact that they rake in millions if not billions of dollars on stuff they got for free is amazing to me. Yet they pay their disabled employees who are basically working for Goodwill for free just nickels compared to what those who are not disabled make. I seen a report on them and some of their disabled employees make less than $4 an hour. Research it for yourself and you will see. Goodwill is a disgusting company with disgusting practices who has gotten rich off of getting over on the unassuming in the name of charity. This is the biggest scam ever thought of. Yet people still support them. Think about it. Have you ever heard about anything Goodwill has done in your community or where you can go contact them when you are in need of help like the Red Cross & Salvation Army? Nope and you never will.

Im pleased
November 11, 2017

Yes. Some of the hsippng charges are astronomical.

But I've purchased a laptop, ninja blender, sneakers, slip on flats, fitbits, tablets, jewelry lots. Many things that are very useful.

Be smart consumer. Check the shipping BEFORE you bid. I honestly factor in shipping with every bid. And then i google other sites to see what i should actually be paying to confirm that i am not over paying once shipping is factored in.

New website
October 29, 2017

I think the new website is horrible. You can't find new items listed as easily and its very difficult to search the title and description. I can't figure out why advanced search wouldn't just default to that anyway. Since the new site launched it seems that there are just not as many items listed in art supplies, crafts and collectibles that I used to search for.

I buy a great deal from this site maybe around $200 a month or in art supplies alone but no more, the items just aren't being listed online at this site.

SCAM!
October 25, 2017

Items listed as IOB (in original box) with photos of packaging, and title of item-- but when it arrives- a totally (and obviously) different item is in the box. I know they saw the GIANT Identifying label on the item shipped because they wrapped it in thin bubble wrap.
I don't mind if an item is dirty or even broken but WOW! Pure deception.

Depends on the Goodwill
October 19, 2017

Each site is independent. Some ship responsibly. Others are a total ripoff. Other stores... like the one in Indiana... lose the items you won... if you won them too cheaply.

BEWARE of Shopgoodwill
October 16, 2017

There is a TON of misrepresentation and also art fraud on this site. They claim so many items are NOT what they actually are, and then Shopgoodwill tries to hide behind a disclaimer to try to absolve the organization from any responsibility. They are far from completely honest.

Also, they price some things absurdly high (above market value). They have gotten very greedy which is despicable considering that everything has been donated to them.

Too Expensive
October 12, 2017

The bids are outrageous on certain items. I wonder if they have people bidding up the pricing and the online items are not tax deductible.

WHY DID YOU CHANGE IT?
October 5, 2017

Your new site is so much more difficult to use - NOT user-friendly. I've been on this site for years and now, all of a sudden, I'm having so many problems with it INCLUDING the fact that it logs me in just fine but then nothing shows up on the site.

I just purchased a $9.99 book and paid $17.95 for shipping and $2.50 for handling. What a complete rip off! This isn't my first issue with the S&H they tried to charge me $30 to have a small 8x10 framed picture mailed. I'm so angry and disappointed.

Singles, 16 to 20 something yrs old!
Out of perhaps 30 people only two would be American. Ive wanted off this site for good but they leave no way on the site to get ahold of them.
Then even on the net, The closet thing I found was this right here. So in my review I can say this site isn't cracked up to what it's supposed. To be. Scorp? Delete my file!

Having been a customer for a few years, the new website is the last straw. I haven't purchased since it has gone into effect. I spend on the average $ 1000. 00 per month. The shipping and handling charges are ridiculous. I've stopped buying and supporting Goodwill. I'm sure the upper management are pulling in huge salaries. Love to know what their" not for profit" CEO is making. Many listings are totally inacurate. Borderline fraudulent. The Attorney General needs to take a close look at this " not for profit". The stores are once again disorganized. Dirty and overpriced. I wouldn't feel so bad, if I knew that the money I spent was really going to help the people who really need it... but I'm sure it's not.

New Auction Site
September 18, 2017

This new "improved" auction site is woefully inadequate. It is cumbersome, not the least bit intuitive and apparently not connected to customer support. I've left questions for over a week that have yet to be addressed.
I also have to agree that shipping costs are frequently ridiculous (obviously designed to compensate for low bidding). My other pet peeve is the inadequate descriptions that accompany items. The old site at least allowed for photo review when checking on shipped orders. No longer possible. This new site SUCKS!
I have spent thousands of dollars over several years in the camera section, but
It is obviously time to find a new auction site.

Not a fan of their new site
September 18, 2017

I'm always very careful when looking at items to bid on and they're shipping prices you can get a pair of earrings that weigh less than an ounce but the shipping weight is 6 lb. That is totally ridiculous. The thing that kills me about shopping on shop Goodwill is the amount of stuff I receive completely broken and smashed. Getting your money back is almost impossible for something that is destroyed. Any other eCommerce service would return your money no questions asked but not shop Goodwill. I spent quite a bit of money on there over the years and for the most part they're jewelry lots are worth it. But if you're getting anything that can get smashed in the mail it definitely will. The final box I received of figurines was obviously smashed before they even put it in the box very disappointed.

They charge way to much for shipping and then make more money by charging you extra for handling! The stuff is donated to them and i have decided i will not buy from sellers who charge a high handling charge and high shipping charges anymore! They are getting rich off people and it would be better to buy from ebay then this site! Because ebay a lot of times have Free Shipping and NEVER have a HANDLING Charge! The new site is a mess as well not worth trash! I hope a lot of people will follow suit and STOP BUYING FROM THESE STORES THAT CHARGE TOO MUCH TO SHIP AND CHARGE TOO MUCH FOR HANDING! Plus no refunds or returns wow! They are getting rich off people with donated items! I only will bid now if shipping is low and handling is low thats it for me! I will buy mostly from ebay because you can trust them and they stand by you if you need a refund or return and they have sellers with good feedback which goodwill you can't even leave feedback for a store which is wrong as well. If they are going to run an auction they should at least let you leave feedback for who ever you buy from too. Also be careful when you bid or buy Gold Jewelry! Because i bought a necklace that was tested by their store and when i got it, it was written on the chain GF which is gold filled not real gold! So they take time to test jewelry but not to read what is stamped on it? If they tested it why was it fake? You can not trust that you are bidding on real gold so be careful when buying jewelry from them if you thinks its real gold and may not be real. Also it is used jewelry so it can have faults or need repairs because they don't really look at it good enough! My bracelet was over 100.00 and it was scrap! My jeweler told me it would cost thousands of dollars to repair the bracelet! No kidding be careful!
