I had Sims paint a guitar gold for me, and I'm astonished at the finish. I've owned so many guitars and I can honestly say this paint job is better than any factory paint job I've ever seen. It's a time consuming process but the end result is well worth the wait. I plan on having my Les Paul painted next. Patrick is a very talented man, and if they gave a grammy for painting guitars he deserves one.
Sent my ibanez Rg 2610 to him to strip Mike learn green skull paint job and paint a tiger stripe graphic with a money order for $690 well over 4 years ago. I got a few responses then nothing for 3 years, it has been reported as stolen terrible communication, i have a picture of him holding my guitar in his shop with Mike Learns graphic on it as if he is advertising he painted it, man is a thief beware if he likes your guitar he keeps it thats my experience
Overall I am very happy with the service Patrick provided.
I am going to break this review down into two categories. Quality of work and customer service.
Quality of work:
Overall I would give the paint job a 9/10 rating. The paint job is flawless EXCEPT there are some inconsistencies/cuts/ chunks around the bolt holes and input jack. BUT, this could just be being nit picky. The colour and craftsmanship was *******% times better than what I expected and better in person than any of the pictures Patrick had sent me over the duration of the job.
Customer Service:
The job was initially quoted and sent off to Patrick August 29,2018. The project was quoted to take 4-8 weeks.
Overall, the process took 8 months. I received the guitar this April of 2019.
THIS being said, Patrick had a couple of unforeseen issues with my particular project. I am an understanding easy going guy, so I always gave Patrick the benefit of the doubt. However, the only thing I would have liked to seen was stronger communication and follow up. I would sometimes be left 4-6 weeks without hearing an update or any news on the project. That being said, I understand I am not the only person with a guitar that Patrick is painting. But still...
Once the guitar was completed and resolved, process went smoothly.
Verdict:
Overall I am very happy with the service Patrick has provided. Although the communication wasn't top notch, the quality of work definitely made up for it. As a first time user with Sims Custom Shop I didn't know what to expect. Now understanding his process and service and timelines, I wouldn't be as sceptical as I once was in sending Patrick another project.
I have plans to send Patrick another guitar in the future.
Hope this helps for anyone looking to send Patrick a guitar!

Pat was very enthusiastic and thorough with this job. Went above and beyond for the work done on the guitar. Very pleased with the end result
It was a pleasure meeting you and doing business with you. Item was clean and funtional. Very smooth transaction.
Excellent work! Guitar was entirely custom painted and turned out amazing in a very reasonable amount of time. Will do business with you again!
I'm totally happy with my Gibson Les Paul. Sims delivered exactly what I asked for, to the letter... she's beautiful.
Sent one of my teles to pat to be refinished to shell pink. Turned out perfect! Definitely worth the wait!
Sims is hands down the best I have seen in the business, top quality work on my custom Twin Tower Les Paul
Thanks Pat
Worst customer service I've ever dealt with. After talking with him, I figured he'd be a good choice to send my warmoth Jazz bass to. Sent it to him the 2nd week of January and was told 6-8 weeks. Approaching the 8 week mark, I asked how it's looking. His response. "well do you know how long this COVID stuff will last?" Wouldn't give me any update other than "he's working on it". Let it slide for a few more weeks... now he's been affected by a tornado. Ok no problem, I'll wait. Now June comes around. It's at this time that I start reading reviews and see that all the bad reviews are the same. Extremely rude and long wait if they even get it back at all. I tell him I'm sick of being patient and this is getting ridiculous. Send him several messages. Call several times with no response. I then write a review on how bad the service is and how my project is a loss... THEN he messages me, but only to argue about the review I left. Was told that he won't refund me and that he won't steal it because it's a "pos" anyway, and I'll get it when I get it. I tell him he has 3 weeks before I dispute. 3 weeks go by, and "it's almost done". I wait another week. "Almost done" 2 weeks later, I finally receive it. Was exited, until I opened it. Small scratches everywhere. Color is uneven on the sides. Knick in the paint by where the control plate goes. I bring this to his attention. His first response. "I knew you would complain about something since I took so long." He said the color being uneven is because of the material I chose. I explained (then had to prove to him with a screenshot of our previous messages) that I didn't choose a material, just a color. He said I shouldn't worry about the Knick he left because "it should be covered by the control plate anyway". The control plate I wasn't going to use. Then he blocked me from messaging him. Anyway... this has been by far the worst customer service I've ever dealt with.

This bass body (a transparent purple over swamp ash) turned out absolutely fantastic. When he received the body he even contacted me and said it looked fantastic and that he “absolutely loved the color & that if he saw a bass for sale in a music store in this color he would have to buy it”. It was obvious he was extremely pleased with the finish and color.
However, later in that day he messaged me and said he thought the color was darker in one area on the body and requested a partial refund. I asked him to send me pictures of the are showing what he was referring to and he never sent me any pictures showing this. I did however send him multiple pictures of the body front and back which clearly showed the color was rich and perfectly even front and back (hi definition pictures with good lighting taken with an iPhone 11). These were the pictures I took just prior to shipping it out. He was sent these pictures prior to shipping as well and he was very pleased with how it turned out.
When he was unable to send pictures of this area that he claimed was darker in one spot he then came up with a new complaint and said there was a small scratch on the finish by the edge of the control cavity. Again (knowing the body was flawless when I shipped it and flawless in the pictures) I asked him to send me pictures of the scratch. Again he did not send any pictures showing this scratch. He did send a picture of his finger pointing at an area right on the edge of the control cavity but the picture did not show anything whatsoever wrong with the finish (no scratch). I even responded to his picture and said “where is it? There’s no scratch in that picture”. He then stated it that it was there but just couldnt get it to show up in the photos. So essentially if there was something there it was so small and insignificant he couldn’t even capture it in a photo.
Based upon where he was pointing with his finger this area is covered by a large chrome control cavity plate. He HAS TO use a control cavity plate bc it’s a front routed body and that’s what his knobs and input jack mount to.
Essentially he was trying to get a partial refund bc it did not get completed as quickly as he would have liked, so he fabricated two stories to try and get a refund: 1. A dark area in the color (transparent purple over swamp ash) and then 2. A scratch on the finish by the edge of the control cavity, neither of which he could supply pictures of showing. The body looked fantastic and he knows it and even stated so when he got it and unboxed it.
When I would not refund his money based on his baseless and unsupported complaint of there being a flaw in finish he filed a chargeback with his credit card company for the ENTIRE amount I charged him for the paint job & the return shipping amount! Long story short after they reviewed everything he supplied them (including pictures) and everything I supplied them they denied his chargeback. As a result of his claim being denied and his credit card company siding on my behalf he came here and left this review.
I do not send guitars out with scratches in the finish and I do not send instruments out with a dark spot in the finish. That’s why he can’t back up that claim with photos and that’s why no one will ever see any pictures of anything I ever painted with flaws like this in the finish. I take a lot of pride in my work and I never have nor ever would send something out with “scratches” in the finish. I invest a lot of time in each finish I do and go above and beyond to ensure every instrument that I do leaves here with a top notch paint job. What I want more than anything is for the customer to be blown away with the quality of what they receive.
