I booked my two-way tickets from Boise, Idaho to Kathmandu, Nepal for December 12 on October 14, which unfortunately transits through Vancouver, Canada. Unfortunately, Canada requires a transit visa - policy which I totally respect but I wasn't aware of until this Sunday. Had I known it even a week earlier, I would have gotten enough time to apply for visa, and it's already late to process visa as I only have 7 working days left until my flight day (they take 19 working days and no expedition option - trust me I tried every possible option).
I totally agree that based on my particular itinerary, my tickets are non-refundable. They restrict me to cancel and even re-route my ticket. I also understands that it is actually traveller's responsibility to manage the visa requirements. But don't you think that not knowing about 1 country's transit visa policy among 196 countries in the world is reasonable enough to be considered for atleast re-routing (in your own airline or the travel agency that provides the so called global service around the world) the tickets for customer's convenience (given that it is only me second international flight)? And, what if the customer were people who don't usually have knowledge how to find such information regarding their flights? And, don't you think, not even offering "any option except for cancelling with just a tax amount and re-reserving a ticket" to a customer with an authentic reason to do so is some kind of loot to customers? I know I might have looked for cheaper fare, isn't that what any students/middle class people would do? Isn't that why your organization exists for? And does the policy really have to be that much strict just for the reason I looked for an inexpensive fare from one of the largest airlines and travel agent? Is it just the money that binds the service provider and the customers? As a service provider, don't you appreciate how we coordinate when the airlines when they are delayed due to your own mistakes, and we JUST understand it? Shouldn't it be as that simple to help your customers back, too?

My flight was cancelled 48 hours prior to departure. I called SU to see what my options were and left my number in the call back queue. I also sent 2 emails titled "URGENT FLIGHT CANCELLED WITHIN 48 HOURS OF DEPARTURE", DM'ed them on instagram, and tried calling twice more. It took them 18 hours to call me back (which happened to be 2am) where they only tried calling once, no text, no email, no nothing. In this time, I rebooked a new flight directly with an airline as I realised I could not rely on these imbeciles to do their jobs. As I booked through this agency, the airline could not make any changes to my booking. As such, i'm $1700 out of pocket for a replacement flight. Despite this clearly being SU's fault due to their inability to prioritise bookings based on departure date/time they failed to respond to any of my emails. Two weeks later, I called up and received appalling service where the employee spoke to me as though I was a child and offered nothing more than an airline credit which doesn't even meet the airlines credit policy. An airline credit entitles you to the $ value of your flight which can go towards ANY international route they fly... but SU have decided I can only use my "credit" to rebook the original route... I should have received a refund and an apology for this companies incompetence but instead all they offered was a sub par "credit"
I thought it was safe to book with SU as I am aware they are owned by Flight Centre, but now I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy

We got a price to Spain for $1300. It wouldn't go through. We called and were offerred the flight for $1600. Stay away.

After 2 1/2 hrs on the phone to StudentUniverse to try to pay for the flight (£723.99) it was impossible to get the flight for the price advertised. I was eventually told I had to pay in US$ (booking a UK originating flight, advertised on a UK website in GB£) at a cost that StudentUniverse could not confirm how much I would be paying,
StudentUniverse post flights at discounted rates and then make it impossible to pay for the flight. I was told my credit card was not PSD2 authorised (I phone Mastercard and it was). The texted backup security code input to authorise payment was rejected by the StudentUniverse website - in short it was impossible for me to pay for the flight.
I was offered a flight which I was told I could pay for by credit card at £957.46.
The discounted rate is to draw traffic to the website, I assume in the hope that people will pay the higher prices for the tickets.
My experience with StudentUniverse will be reported as a formal complaint to Abta
