I work with several parents who use this website to monitor their children's smart phone behavior. They love the functionality and all report it provides exactly what they promise. Sounds like a solid monthly investment for parents concerned about their children's online/cellular activities.

Teen safe control ap is a complete bust! I spent hours working through bugs to get this installed on my teen's phone only to realize she can delete it from their phone settings by simply going to device management, selecting stop managing device and entering her phone password. So much for that! What a joke!

Lisa,
When Apple updated to iOS 10.2 this became an issue and we are working hard to resolve. Feedback from other parents is that monitoring is the safety condition for the privilege of smartphone use. Our TeenSafe Android version does not allow the teen to remove. Thanks for being a digital safety savvy parent. Best, the TeenSafe team

Don't waste your time getting tangled up with this useless software. It promises to track website activity, but doesn't. Their representative said it doesn't work for current system software on an Android. What the heck? When I told them to cancel my account, the rep said I could not get a refund because "I had seen data." RIGHT. Guess what TeenSafe? I'm going to broadcast this review as many times as I can.

Greetings and sorry you are having issues. For the newest Android OS 6.0 or higher, Google does not allow access to any Internet History to any company. Operating system updates aren’t in our control and can affect our service offerings.

In our Terms of Use it states that any use of a full access paid account by a user, no full or partial refund will be issued. That being said we do not want frustrated customers. Please send us your email and we will resolve for you. Best, the TeenSafe team.

You only get all of the updates from your kid's iphone at night, when its charging, and there is nothing else going on. THis is entirely useless for what parents need it for. We need to know information now. If I had 24 hrs where I could trust my kid, I would not be using software like this at all.

Chris,

We understand this issue for you. Android and Apple’s operating systems are very different. TeenSafe on Android updates all the time. There are limitations from Apple’s iOS that we wish weren’t there. The monitoring still helps parents with insights to manage through the digital safety minefields. Best, the TeenSafe team

Before I got Teensafe, I called their customer service department and got right through, no problem. Obviously I got it to monitor my teen's social media after discovering she said she was eighteen and she's in fact only sixteen. Also wanted the ability to find her using the phone location feature since we have Indian casinos in the area and I do NOT want her there! And if you pay attention to when your child is driving, you can tell if they are texting and driving - a huge bonus! Thanks Teensafe!

Basically anything your kid just wants to delete you cant see. If they use any browser other than the default browser for web activity you don't see it. Google does not work with this service which is what most people search on. Again... kids can simply delete any web activity they want and it wont show up on this report. While there are technical ways around most products... getting around this product is a joke for anyone. My kid isn't even trying to get around this product and the web activity still wont come thru as he uses Google. Not worth $14.95 a month. Frankly not worth working with even if it were free.

We tried the free trial but it is extremely limited so we opted to pay the full price for the app the second day.

Then we found out it won't block any apps our daughter downloaded or show us her web history because her phone has an updated version of Android. They were unwilling to refund our payment even though we did not get the services they advertise for their app.

If you have an ancient phone, this app might work for you, but if you are using a relatively new device, look elsewhere.

It worked for a day, then stopped updating even though the phone is backing up to the cloud. Customer support was slow to respond and completely unhelpful. They will not refund my purchase for a non-working product. It's a complete rip off and I'm sorry I wasted my money but don't waste yours.

I am a 16 yr old girl that has teen safe on my phone. It is literally the worst thing in my opinion. My dad has taken the App Store off of my iPhone because he doesn't trust me what so ever. They say they are doing this to keep me safe but honestly that's not how it feels. I feel like I can't do anything and all the restrictions are just like a challenge for me to see what loopholes I can make. If you put this on your teens phone they are probably gonna think you don't trust them

This has been more of a pain in the a$$ than anything I have ever tried. Every time I log on I have to change my son's apple id password. It is a long process and definitely not worth it. It does not monitor internet use at all. Text messages do not update frequently enough.

Amy, we are very sorry this was a frustrating experience for you. Technologically, what we offer is very complex and at times less than perfect. We’ve logged millions of successful transactions over the years and our software is highly functional but not always.

We are well aware of the Apple iCloud account lockouts. Rest assured, we have a full team of development resources working on this issue.

It is difficult to determine the exact cause, as various factors seem to contribute to account lockouts and they can happen instantly or can be delayed by a day or more. Moreover, not every customer who performs the same pattern of actions is affected in the same way.

While detecting the precise cause is difficult, what is clear is that the issue is industry-wide and affects all monitoring services. We are working hard to evaluate potential solutions and will keep you updated.

I’m not sure if you are using TeenSafe Monitor or the TeenSafe Control App but we do monitor internet history. And with TeenSafe Control you can schedule internet access or pause internet use at any time with one-click. And depending on if you have an iPhone or Android, text messages are retrieved based on when we can access the information from these operating systems, not something we can control.

Again, sorry for the difficulty but please call our support team (800)245-8598 or email support@teensafe.com to resolve these issues. Best, the TeenSafe team

I did not complete the set up, so therefore did not receive any service, never dreamed they would charge for doing nothing! That's bad enough, however you can only cancel by request. I have been trying to contact for months with no response. Now I must cancel my credit card so as to not be charged anymore. There are better apps out there. You can use iCloud alone for many of the services they offer without the poor customer service.

This app is worthless. Please do not waste your money. The data retrieval for an apple phone has almost a 24 hour delay. The phone call log has been inaccurate and the customer service just makes excuses and runs you around in circles.

We are sorry that your experience with TeenSafe did not meet your expectations. Our team works very hard to deliver tools that parents can use to monitor their teen's and tween's smartphone use. Our iOS service is directly affected by how Apple manages iCloud updates. Our Android version updates the data every 15 minutes. The team continues to improve the software like the Scheduling feature we just announced for the TeenSafe Control App where parents can block apps and texting when their driving, studying etc. Again, we are concerned about customer issues and work diligently to resolve.

The service just does not work well for Apple products. It simply does not work as advertised at this point. I was very hopeful that this service would be a solution to keeping a protective eye on my kids. After numerous updates and time spent with customer support, I requested a refund for 1-month of the service and was denied. It really is unfortunate because I wanted to use the service long term, but now will start searching for an alternative solution. Sorry Teen-Safe, you're just not ready for prime time yet.

We just issued an updated version with new features. We’re sorry you had issues getting it running. When Apple issues operating system or iCloud updates our team works very hard to update our software as soon as possible. There are times when this takes longer than we like and the software doesn’t work as designed. We currently have many parents successfully using our iPhone version of both TeenSafe Monitor and TeenSafe Control. In our Terms of Use it states that any use of a full access paid account by a user, no full or partial refund will be issued. I encourage you to contact them again if you indeed did not get the data from your child’s phone. Best, the TeenSafe team

Company says free trial but then charges you immediately. They were not able to pull up my child's data due to glitches on their end. Site won't let you log in without disabling security on the Apple account. Said they are trying to work on the issue. Then they expect you to pay without providing you with any information. Asked to speak with a supervisor. Says it takes two days for them to return call.

Thumbnail of user ruthd30

Very sorry that you are having these issues. I spoke with our customer support team and they need your email to look at your account and see what is happening. If you send me your email ruth.doering@teensafe.com they will contact you, if they haven’t already.

1) The only way you would not have received the 7-day trial is if you upgraded to a full access paid account or if you used a pre-paid credit card for payment.

2) As for the second issue, Apple changed the two-factor authentication again this week and it takes us a couple of days to figure out the changes and upgrade our software. The team let us know it will be resolved today.

Our customer support team works very hard and am sorry your experience was frustrating. But contact us and we will resolve.

Used to love using teensafe but recently I can't use it without a problem for my kids and then having to change Apple ID every time I sign in! Totally takes away any transparency and adds to problems! Waste waste waste of time now. Very disappointed because it worked so well before the Apple ID issue started.

As the kid on the other end of TeenSafe, as a parent I'm telling you to not get it. TeenSafe has completely ruined my relationship with my mom. Theres a difference from protecting your kid and completely invading their privacy. And software such as TeenSafe and others are a complete invasion of privacy. Being a teenager, there are things you just don't want your parents knowing. TeenSafe disregards that. Its common fact of life: teenagers are going to lie to you. And I'm sorry to tell you this, but as their parent, no matter what software you put on your child's phone their still going to lie to you about somethings. I do not recommend TeenSafe or any other monitoring service unless you want to destroy your relationship between you and your child. Things like TeenSafe should only be used if you have actual evidence that your child is doing something that is putting them in danger and/or something illegal. My mom put TeenSafe on my phone and I have completely lost all respect for her.

I use this app to help me keep "an eye" on my youngest daughter who is 13 and loves to play on her phone. She just changed schools and is meeting new friends, and as a parent I like her to be social, but it always makes me uneasy to not know who she is hanging out with after school before I get home. The app works fine, but I would make it easier to navigate.

I have used TeenSafe in the past with no issues and now it is worthless. I have had to change my daughter's Apple password so many times that I have lost count. As soon as I do it, the next day, the site locks me out again. I have worked with customer service several times to fix this and nothing has worked. I'm cancelling my account and looking elsewhere for a monitoring service. I have wasted enough time and money with TeenSafe.

We understand that you are frustrated. Our team is working long hours to resolve this industry-wide issue affecting the successful monitoring of iPhones. We do not have this issue with Android.

Since early March we have been reporting several instances of Apple locking iCloud accounts. Apple locks iCloud accounts with no patterned or reason. They can lock instantly, or on one of several locking cycles which range from seconds to days. This is an industry-wide issue affecting everyone.

Apple followed the threats by hackers to wipe millions of iCloud accounts and the CIA documents publication by WiliLeaks about critical iOS vulnerabilities. These security measures provoked repeat Apple iCloud account locks of the majority of iOS devices users.

This is an industry-wide issue, not just TeenSafe. Our team is working hard to resolve and is confident in finding a fix shortly.

Wish I read these reviews... when signing in to iCloud to monitor an iPhone, monitoring works for a day (that's only IF the iPhone is backed up, otherwise it shows 0 texts). ICloud prompts child to reset password, which won't let teensafe in. Vicious circle of getting nowhere. AND, you can sign up for a free trial, BUT will only show you limited info and makes you buy the membership to see more than 3 texts. Once you buy, if you don't cancel on time (you HAVE to call to cancel) they will not refund your money!

Greetings,
We understand you’re frustration in dealing with the Apple iCloud account lockout issue. We do have a full team of development resources working on this issue.

While detecting the precise cause is difficult, what is clear is that the issue is industry-wide and affects all monitoring services.

Regarding the trial, we do require a call to cancel so that we can verify that it is a parent canceling, not a teen. And in our terms of use it states that if you download data we won’t refund that month as the service has been used.

Again, sorry it didn’t work for you but our goal is to provide options for parents to protectively monitor their tweens and teens and at times issues come up that are out of our control. Best, the TeenSafe team

As many have mentioned the account will get locked out. To get around it I only check texts once a month then reset the account. I realize much of this is on apple. My issue now is the data is really behind. Almost a month. Hopefully this stuff gets fixed soon or it simply won't be worth it.

Wanted to give 5 Stars. I have used this app for years and really have loved it. Some quirks but it was overall good! But now... every time I go on there, we get locked out and password has to be changed. My daughter gets frustrated as a teen that this keeps happening... and so am I! So now I don't go on there. Reason I got the app to begin with was to monitor! I Can't! Still paying and hoping it gets fixed so I don't have to cancel. I know it's a issue with Apple, but hey most of us have Apple so something needs to be done and quick!

Thanks for letting us hear from you so we can respond that there is hope. Our highly experienced engineering team has been working relentlessly on this and are confident they’ve discovered a workaround to the industry-wide iCloud lockout issue affecting our subscribers. However, writing the code, debugging and Q&A testing will take time. Can’t give an exact date but the team feels a resolution will be rolled out. Thank you for your patience as we’d love that 5-star review once resolved! Best, the TeenSafe team
