The pro I hired never once answered emails from me and has virtually dropped me. Horrible and frustrating service. Rude.
I've waited to give this review of the graphic artist thinking that he would contact me but never did after two days of waiting to hear back from him!
Needed wheelchair ramp built ASAP. Submitted request to Thumbtack and received a reply quickly. Rocky Roberts called and came out to go over my needs and promptly gave me an estimate, day and time. Work was done and was better than I expected. Cleanup and and work went off without a hitch. Will use Rocky for any other jobs needed.
This website operates as a complete scam, providing false leads. Often, these leads are unresponsive or lead to being ignored, and they even distribute the same lead to multiple individuals, fostering competition. Despite being well-qualified, I haven't been able to secure a single person from Thumbtack. I strongly advise avoiding this platform as it is a fraudulent and deceptive website.
Thumbtack sell one lead 3-4 times. This is bad, but it worked when I could get a refund. Over the last month, Thumbtack took $400 from my card and I had one client with a small job less than an hour for $50 and minus $18 for a lead.
I WAS a thumbtack pro for the last 2 years, I have spent thousands of dollars on leads and had over 20 different businesses join to them as well. I have over 160 positive reviews and only one review that was not 5 stars and even that one called thumbtack to tell them that it was a mistake, they were informed that it could not be taken down and that I would be shut down because of it. Now thumbtack has completely shut me down without even contacting me first. After talking to one of the phone reps I was told nothing can be done to reactivate it. I had my attorney look through all the thumbtack rules and guidelines and it does state that they can shut you down ONLY with probable cause in a written explanation. Well I never received one. That is a very very unprofessional way to run any company. I will stop at nothing to contact as many business that I know to make sure they give no more money to these scammers.
This is the most awful site to deal with. I had a client that gave me an issue as soon as i went in and her dog bit me. It was a painting project and she did not get primer and she was upset the darker color was soaking through. She contacted thumbtack and they wanted me to give her a refund and i refused due to her failing to provide correct paints. The pros pay for the leads. But they side with customers when it comes down to it home advisor or Angie's list is the best advertising sites.
They do not communicate with pros. Lie about their present and achievements in the market. Don't trust the reviews that they control. Very much a scam for your money. If they learned how to treat their pro's well, they would succeed with the homeowner market. Ivy league attitude scum, sit back and watch their model take money from people with no conscience.
We had a terrible experience with a thumbtack contractor. They didn't show up on time - if at all for scheduled appointments. The workmanship was poor, they made a mess and didn't clean up - didn't finish the job. They wanted the check paid to an individual, not the company listed - very shady. A rating of (1) is generous.
Thumbtack seemed like a good idea, they changed the way they do things. You only pay for the quote if the client contacts you! They are charging too much. $16.56 for a customer response, Im charging $20 for my service, no profit, pulse more than half of the people that contact you flake out. Not worth it.
You will be charged for quotes on jobs that you don't want. They have this cute little button that you can use that says DECLINE buts it's just for looks I suppose. If they deem it a valid quoted job, you are charged regardless of if you read the job request and decide that you had rather not take the job. This is where that decline button comes into play. I started using thumbtack over a year ago and liked it at the start but then they began the instant match. You either use it and get charged regardless of if you think the job will fit you or send each job quote yourself and end up not getting the work because instant match sends them quicker. Totally disgusted by the way I've been treated and will not be using thumbtack anymore.

We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
