Stayed in a Studio 6 Charlotte Airport #6006 3420 Queen City Dr Charlotte NC. Only pet friendly hotel we could find for a one night stay. The first thing I checked with the mattress and it appeared to be new sheets were really white. However as the evening approached the room started to smell... the bedspread I discovered was filthy... carpet in halls disgusting... nothing worked. No hot water in bathroom sink... and we woke up to roaches on the wall. And they charged me a $25 nonrefundable pet deposit? I wouldn't let my Chihuahua's feet touch their filthy floors. First time I used Trivago... and the last time.

I booked a room through Trivago promising room, breakfast, free valet parking. Next thing I knew, a company I never heard of called 'Canelon' had withdrawn $886 from my bank account; they represented they were working for Trivago. When I got to the hotel room, my 'special rate' was no where. In fact, the hotel doesn't work with either Trivago or Cancelon, no monies had been paid on my behalf. I was then charged the full stay (+$32/night valet) on my card. I have now paid twice and never received a refund (or acknowledgement of wrong) from either Trivago or Cancelon.

We spent three nights at this hotel, yet never received room service. I was pleased by the spaciousness of the room but could not overlook the (fairly clean) yet outdated nature. The grounds (and stairways!) are in complete disrepair. I enjoyed the quality of breakfast but was absolutely dismayed by the nazi nature of staffing: breakfast is pulled at the exact minute despite guest needs~ I arrived 15 minutes before closing (9am) yet was refused (apon asking) eggs (empty tray) for my 15 month old child because it "was too close to closing". Such disregard means I will never stay at this location (or probably any choice hotels again).

Booked a hotel through Prestigia on Trivago. Had a medical emergency and there was no one to talk to at Trivago. There is no customer service contact information except an email that takes days to hear from, still waiting. The hotel cancelled the reservation without a problem, provided the cancellation number to Prestigia, but Prestigia will not cancel because it says its "partner" will not allow it. Countless emails with Prestigia, and they will not reveal who the "partner" is. Save yourself aggravation... DO NOT USE TRIVAGO

A great site for starting your holiday hotel research, where you can either compare prices for a specific hotel or find a suitable hotel in your desired destination. They offer customer reviews for the hotels as well which help me a lot in my decision making process for booking a hotel.

Wanted to book a specific hotel in Chicago. Went to the hotel site and reviewed rates, found a discount code with a good rate of $153. Then went to Trivago where the rate for the exact same type of room for the same dates was $289 per night! This site is ridiculous and will never use it again.

Dear Helen,
Thank you for your message and we appreciate this feedback.
Hotels distribute discounted rates to multiple booking sites such as Expedia, Booking.com, Agoda, etc. which are usually under the normal BAR or sell rate which can be booked directly at the hotel. What trivago does is simply displays them all together, in one place, for users to compare and choose from. Our main purpose is to help users find their ideal hotel, which is why we have several different filters to choose from in order to narrow down your search results to meet your specific travel needs.
We function as a portal for hotels to advertise themselves, as well as a meta-search for booking sites to display their rates and increase the traffic to their companies.
You are right, sometimes booking directly with the hotel can be cheaper if they are promoting special rates, however, for the most part, their sell rates do not fluctuate as much as those which are sold through booking sites. Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose. We are also currently integrating Direct Connect, an option that you might find useful, which is a service where hotels can directly display their own rates on trivago and promote themselves this way.
Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Kind regards,

I agree with previous reviewers, Trivago's vetting of their site's suppliers is inept at best and likely they are a front and just a way to add a layer of seperation between them and their cohorts, while adding a false sense of legitimacy, for these scam Euro/Russian booking sites.

I have had personal dealings with both Trivago and their linked supplier Hoteling.com. When searching on Trivago you'll find all the similar availablities and pricing found on other, legitimate, booking sites such as Expedia, Priceline and Travelocity but you will also see availability at hotels that had no availability on the other sites and/or prices 10-20% less than these other sites offered by Hoteling.com and the like. Thinking you've stumbled upon a deal you'll be tempted to roll the dice and book through one of these sites you've likely never heard of, hoping you'll be just fine.

If you decided to check out reviews before booking, good for you. You've been warned...

Dear Dan,

Although we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review we find that quite a few of your statements are factually incorrect.

You mentioned that you had 'dealings' with trivago. You contacted us on Oct 17th last year regarding a booking issue with Hoteling.com. We responded seeking more information in order to assist you but you did not respond unfortunately. You did mention at the time that your issue was resolved with Hoteling and that you had been refunded. It seems as though your review here (several months later) is based on other peoples experiences more so than yours which is a shame and very unfair.

As a hotel search and not a booking site, trivago is not involved in the booking process between the user, the online travel agent and the hotel, and therefore cannot, in any way, claim financial responsibility for the transaction process between these parties.

Nevertheless, before displaying rates from a booking site on trivago, a background check on the company is always conducted to ensure that their customers have the opportunity find the deals offered on their website. This background check has been completed for all the booking sites listed on trivago.

Trivago does not display deals from any site that does not pass our initial integration check, or where there are any reports that the site is not reliable. As we endeavor to display all online hotel offers globally, we believe that we would be doing a disservice to our users if we were to ban a booking site. None of the 250+ booking sites listed on trivago are exempt from booking issues, the 'legitimate' ones you have mentioned included.

What you can and should expect from trivago is that we will always strive for maximum transparency. Our main purpose is to help users find their ideal hotel. We function as a portal for hotels to advertise themselves, as well as a meta-search for booking sites to display their rates and increase the traffic to their companies.

Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose.

Kind regards,
Trivago user support.

The worst hotel search site. We had a bitter experience recently in Hyderabad. Fooled to reach one of the worst places by following trivago. Stayed in sree simran palace which trivago says all the facilities. To our surprise it did not even have room service. My sincere request to trivago is please stop fooling people around.

Booked a hotel stay through Trivago with Otel.com. Otel immediately took our money and sent a confirmation of booking email. The hotel we chose to stay at is 45 minutes away from us in Calif. We later learned Otel.com is in Istanbul Turkey. We called the hotel the next day to double check our reservation and they have no record of the reservation, they have never heard of Otel and they are booked full on the date of our reservation. I have requested a resolution from Otel with no response. Checked Otel's reviews and they are the worst! Several stories like ours of the site taking their money and issuing a false confirmation. Even though Trivago is not responsible for the actions of the sites they post on their website, it seems to us that they are doing a horrible job of vetting these sites before including them in their list of sites.

We have been in contact with Tom and with Otel.com on his behalf. His booking issues are now resolved and we are glad that we were able to mediate in order for that to happen.

This background check has been completed for Otel.com.

As we endeavor to display all online hotel offers globally, we believe that we would be doing a disservice to our users if we were to ban a booking site.

What you can and should expect from trivago is that we will always strive for maximum transparency. Therefore we recommend that our users take further steps to review the booking site’s rating score. All rating scores are prominently displayed next to the logo of each booking site on trivago and are continuously reviewed by fellow trivago users.

I kept seeing TV ads for "Trivago" but could never remember the name. FINALLY, I remember the name so I go to book a hotel on their website just the other tonight. So, I find what I want and go to book it. Then, I read the "terms and conditions" and it's really strange. All of a sudden, I'm on some Italian owned website that says I must select USD or I will be charged in Euro and that I'd have to go to their website directly to cancel. Then, I look up and see that this site that I just entered my credit card info on is not secure! There is no "https" before the site name. So, I un-check the terms & conditions box, leave the site and booked on Hotels.com instead. However, it was too late! AMEX called us, emailed us, texted us and shut down our ability to go on-line to our account since they identified the fraud. They now have to send me a a new card. Too bad I FINALLY remembered that stupid name!

The worst. I will never use them again. I was charged for my hotel and the hotel has NO record of my reservation. Trivago is the middle-man and the actual reservation was made through Cancelon. I called cancelon to ask why the hotel has no record of my reservation. They keep telling me that they need 24 more hours to get a response. Now the hotel where I was going to stay is fully booked. Cancelon says that my only option is to cancel my reservation. Too bad that I could have used a reputable company and actually gotten my room. I am now out the cost of the conference I paid for too.

Tip for consumers:
I have had good luck with Expedia. Do NOT use Trivago. The worst!

I went on trivago hotels and put in Eureka, CA... I have family there. A page of hotels came up for Eureka, Ca. It was one page and when I went to the bottom of the page there was this cabin. It was inexpensive and even came with pictures. I. Fell in love with it. I showed my brother and my daughter who is coming with me. She said book it. I did and then I called my nephew in Eureka to tell him about it. He looked it up himself and the map was not from Eureka, Ca it was Eureka Montana. Your search engine had them on the same page. That was your fault. Why would you stick in Eureka Montana on a Search for Eureka, Ca. I can call you. You have no number. I'm just glad I didn't wait until I got there and found out I didn't have a place to stay. Yes I was. Able lo cancel, but it will take 5 to 7 business days to go back on my credit. You need to chance this so it doesn't happen to someone else.

Needed a one night stay in New Orleans, but didn't want to be in the thick of the French Quarter, but more on the outskirts.
Trivago showed me a hotel that was not listed on most of the sites. Got a great room at a great rate. Go Trivago!

I will put this up front- DO NOT USE THIS POS COMPANY. This company is like a subcontractor for companies that book rooms for people- They do have not a quick support structure. This company could care less that you get what you paid for or you get anything- they will say don't speak with us speak to the company you booked with- and if you think customer support is better with the subcontractors you a dead wrong- The are no better, I could see that they might not care if I was just booking a room at the motel 7 but i was booking at a 5-star resort in Fla. Just call the resort you want to book as they for the best rate and save yourself a ton of money.

Trivago might find you the best price but what about best property? Or even acceptable property. Booked a hotel with them to find a rat in the hallway the next morning. I would suggest you distance yourself from Trivago.

We were planning a getaway for us and our children. My husband just got home after being gone for many months with the military. We used trivago to find our hotel and they booked through Expedia. However, when getting to the hotel we were told we couldn't use our military discount, nor earn our points for staying at the Holiday Inn. We use this hotel often and travel a lot. The hotel stay was the same price as if we were to book it ourselves. Except for the fact we could have gotten our military discount and gained our points had we not used Trivago/ Expedia. So, in essence we spent more then we would have if we just done it all ourselves. We will never use this again nor recommend our friends too. We are large community of military wives and families too. So, thank you for reading this and if you're military book it yourself.

Tried Trivago for the first time. Got a very distasteful room for a horrendous price. Will stick to booking.com. Unlike booking.com, there is a third party (another booking agency) involved in the whole process. And this third party takes the money at the time of the booking. And there was hideous cancellation fee too.
Booking.com is so much better. No third party agencies. Can cancel anytime till the last hour of the arrival at the hotel and that too for free. Money is collected only at the end of the stay by the hotel.
Hugely disappointed!

Dear Bindu M.

Thank you for your message, However, you seem to slightly misunderstand what trivago is and how it works. I will try to clarify a few things for you.

Trivago is a hotel search and not a 3rd party booking site. This means users can search and compare different hotels and prices on our site. We pull information from over 260 OTAs (online travel agencies such as Expedia & your personal favorite Booking.com) and display the prices together. However, once a user clicks through to 'view deal', they are directed to the appropriate booking site which provides that price to complete reservation and payment details. Trivago doesn't actually have any involvement in the making of the booking.

Hotels distribute discounted rates to the OTAs which are usually under the normal BAR or sell rate which can be booked directly at the hotel.

Our main goal is to help people find that particular ideal hotel to fit their needs, then they can book it however they choose.

I hope that the above clears up a few things for you. If you do have any inquiries or further feedback please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at info@trivago.com

Kind regards,

My husband and I travel quite a bit and use this app to help find reasonable hotels that take pets. It seems that half the time we find a hotel on the app that says they are pet friendly but get to the hotel and they say they are not. I had one today tell me that they haven't accepted pets for over three years. I woulda really like to see some updates done to this app. It really is helpful just wish it was more accurate. We have also had a few issues with the hotel not wanting to match the price seen on the app but that has only happened a few times. Most generally they will honor it.

From my experience, there is no advantage to using Trivago. The prices shown on Trivago are mostly all the same across all the hotel booking sites. In many cases if you call the hotels directly, the price is the same and you won't have to pre-pay. Standard 24 hour cancellation policies apply. Way to go! Only a fool makes and prepays a non-refundable reservation for the same price the hotel offers.

I used Trivago for the first and last time. I didn't understand they are only a referral service and don't make the reservation themselves. Add to that they don't stand behind the company they send you to. I selected a hotel from the Trivago map and completed the reservation process only to find that the reservation was made in a motel in a different State. To add insult to injury, I was billed for the room. I found out when I looked for a resolution on the Trivago FAQ that this is not an uncommon occurrence. Since both Trivago and the booking companies are in Europe we have little recourse.

I was looking for accommodations NOT in a city and the site doesn't even have the hotels listed. I looked for hotels in a particular town north of Dallas, TX and the site said there either is no such town or they have no hotels. Mind you, Kayak found several with prices, pictures and costs. This site may work for immediate metro areas but if you want to stay anyplace else, use someone else!
