They have the WORST customer service anywhere.
1) When you call, you have to listen to non-relevant disclaimers for a couple of minutes EVERY time.
2) You authenticate once with a person who does nothing but asks 6 questions just to ROUTE you to other department.
3) Next wait, the second stop asks 6 questions AGAIN to authenticate. If you are lucky, they have the answer. Most of the time, they do not know, AFTER YOU HAVE EXPLAINED YOUR QUESTION/ISSUE TWO TIMES ALREADY! They transfer you.
4) Wait. The third person asks authentication questions AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME. If they do not have answer, go to net stop, and next stop...
5) Even if you get an answer, it is general, not relevant and do not address your question/issue.
MOST HORRIBLE AND FRUSTRATING CUSTOMER SERVICE ANYWHERE!
I haven't even been with this company a month and they still can't get my doctor straight. They lied to me 100% at the sales department when they signed me up. Said that all but one of my doctors are in network well they may be in network but I can't see them. Customer service is non existent with this company there are many 800 numbers to speak to customer service each one has a 40 minute wait time minimum to speak to someone. In my attempt to resolve the problem with my doctors it took 30 phone calls with a 40 minute wait time each to try to resolve this and it never got resolved I was told to go to my appointment everything was OK when I got to my doctor they refused to see me because the insurance wasn't right and then they lied about even getting a telephone call from the insurance company and began to blame it on billing they must have spoke to someone in billing. That didn't happen because whomever they spoke to in that office gave them my appointment day and time to tell me that's front office people. Billing would have no idea of when I'm coming and when I'm going unless they got paper from the front office.
It's open enrollment time if you know what's good for you Stay away from the United healthcare AARP Secure horizons focus plan. Get it this year and you will be absolutely sorry for 365 more days until you can get rid of them. I got lucky I've only got 2 weeks before I flush the United healthcare toilet.
UHC in 2022 was great. In 2023 they have been awful. First, both my dentist and my eye doctor quit doing business with them as they paid so poorly. I was forced to find new providers.
Second, they say they pay chiropractors. My chiropractor got pre-authorization for my treatment yet they refuse to pay for any treatments. For 7 months I have been told by UHC reps that it is my chiropractor's fault the claims are not paid. Yet I have been standing next to the claims processor and watched her do everything they said needed to be done so the claim would be paid, and nothing was paid. My chiropractor's office reports every other insurance company, BC/BS, Humana, Cigna has paid their claims, while UHC pays nothing.
Third, I need pulmonary therapy. The service was preuthorized by the hospital and I paid the co-pay before starting treaty. Three months into the treatment I learn the UHC now expects me to pay 20% of the therapy. Therapy I have been doing 3 times a week for three months! This is very different from what the pre-authorization said I would owe.
I will not be using UHC in 2024. I advise others to steer clear too.
After receiving LTD for about a year, I just received a letter that they wanted almost all of the money they paid me returned. $*******. 00!
When I was injured at work, I received STD for about 6 months and when that ran out and I could no longer work at any light-duty posts at work, I was forced to choose between retiring early or being terminated and losing my health insurance benefits. I chose to retire early. I could still survive but it would be tight. I got a call from UHC Specialty Benefits who handled the STD claim. She was asking me about LTD and I told her that I just put in my retirement papers so, thinking that was going to be the end of our conversation, she went on to tell me that I could still collect my pension and receive LTD up to 100% of my Pre-Disability salary. I said, "Sign me up!".
Big mistake.
After a year I got a letter stating that they had made an error and my pension offset my LTD payments and they overpaid me over $27,000. That was roughly 80% of what they actually paid me. So now that I had already spent the money, I had to borrow from family and they have made my life very difficult. I have no legal recourse since I guess it is in the policy that they can do this.
They are the most dishonest, deceitful, incompetent boobs I have ever dealt with.
Since last one month i contact multiple time to resolved my issue.
The customer service rep. Are not knowledgeable-- the worst customer service i have seen in my life
I am a new employee. I had questions about the plans offered ---basic ppo, high ded, and buy-up ppo. Very GENERAL QUESTIONS. United Healthcare was AWESOME! First they asked me my name, and member ID and group number (which I don't have), then they transferred me about 20 times. I love it. I asked to speak with a supervisor who transferred me as well because she did not handle this information. When I finally found a group number, they asked me to spell the name of my company/employer, when I did they stated that it does not match--that there are too many versions of the same company (there is only one in the entire world). When I called prior to this, with just the name of the company, they stated that they needed the group number. With only the name they could not help me--I needed to be transferred--I just was so happy about this! Poor overseas employees. Their customer service is plain horrible and atrocious. They should just automate this or post everything online and fire everyone. Literally, would be better if live people did not answer calls.
I met my deductible and out of pocket minimum for 2022. I double checked with UHC to make sure my deductible and out of pocket max are from Jan 1 - Dec 31 because I needed to have surgery in December, they confirmed that was correct. Our policy renewed on Dec 1. My deductible went up 250.00 and my out of pocket went up 450.00 for the next year - I knew that and get it - But now they have added that 700.00 increase to the deductible and out of pocket max to my totals that I have already met for this year for December and it won't even apply for the next year because it all resets in Jan. This is theft, stealing, scam, what ever you want to call it. I can't believe a company could be this smarmy, it's sickening. I called customer service three times today, two of the times the person on the other end couldn't understand the problem. I asked for a supervisor and waited on hold for 30 min. When I finally got one she said patronizingly (I'm sorry, that's just how it works). I am so sick of BS like this from UHC.
I had an appointment on today between 8am and 12 noon no one called or came I had to call to see what the you know what was going on when I called back I talk to some piece of a person she kept me on hold hung up called right back put me on hold I called back a third time she was lying and pretending to understand how mad that I am now I asked to speak with a supervisor never got to speak to one this is very unprofessional and disrespectful y'all do not have one good review on here that is horrible and this piece of s**t company should go out of business for good
My husband's union switched our plan from Blue Advantage to United Healthcare as of July 1. While we haven't yet used it for any actual office visits, our first foray into the world of prescription drugs with them has been a total nightmare. We've spent nearly a week trying to straighten out my husband's scripts through their partner Optum Rx. What a joke! United claims the plan will cover a "brand" med, but not its generic -- even though Dr. has requested a formulary exception to do so. (Optum Rx quoted one price online, charged 20x that when they sent the bill!) Also required to have ALL NEW REFERRALS made by my PCP for specialists I have been seeing for 8+ years! I thought we were in the year 2023, not the stone age. And isn't it ironic that if you try Googling United Healthcare, the results only return glowing reviews of how wonderful they are. If you have any say-so about who your insurance carrier is, DO NOT USE UNITED HEALTHCARE.
United healthcare is a very very bad, the worst insurance I waste my money. I do not recommend it, I could not even do my physical exam. I do not recommend at all
Please do not choose this insurance
