Saving for college is too important to waste money and time on UPromise. The fees are outrageous, both the published and the hidden ones. Example of a hidden fee: if you log in after having not used the site in awhile, without asking it zaps your balance with a fee for "reactivation." Reputable financial firms do not behave this way. State-managed college savings programs don't behave this way either. Try one of them. Anything but UPromise.

Waste of my time!
March 8, 2020

I have tried to make several purchases through the Upromise program and I have yet to get my earnings. I am upset because I could have shopped with another rewards company that does honor their earning policy. Also, I have dined at several restaurants that are in the program and they are very inconsistent in rewarding points for that. Sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't. Never again! I'm done with Upromise!

I linked my Upromise account to my kids' 529, but when I transferred the funds to the linked accounts, it never showed up. I later received checks in the mail from a different company's 529, along with a note saying we have no record of your account, but please provide the account number when you deposit the checks (the checks were made out to this new company's 529 plans). So Upromise just transferred my funds to wherever they felt like, and now I can't access it or get the money into my kids' 529 accounts.

Upromise was fine for while my child was in college. But since graduation, I have wanted to have the 'rewards' money go into a different account. I made the changes online, and did not get the money. I called multiple times. I emailed numerous times. I filled out the upromise contact form. NO RESPONSE.

When looking to save for a child's education, you have to make sacrifices. How the program is set up, people are giving up their privacy for pennies on the dollar that the spend. Companies love people using programs like this, they get your information for nothing. All the consumers get is more temptation to spend more money than saving it for the child's education.

1 star is too high
May 17, 2022

I have used the app plus I have been using the Upromise/Barclay's credit card for MANY years. Not one penny of my CC earnings has ended up in my Upromise account nor have they made there way to my 529. Many calls to Upromise left me on hold for 1 to 2 hours only to be dropped. Emails have gone unanswered, reaching out to the CC company only gets me redirected to Upromise. What a scam. This is just unbelievable. My son is now going into his 3rd year of college and this sheme has robbed us of moneys earned. I could have been using a different card with cash back or even earned hotel and or airline lines for the past 15 years.

Upromise is horrible
February 24, 2022

I put money into Upromise years ago for my stepdaughter and son. It was highly recommended and seemed fine. I recently went in to check on the accounts and it keeps saying my password is wrong and when I try to reset it the password it doesn't work. I have tried to contact Upromise by chat and phone and have had no response for days. I'm worried about the money in my accounts now. Does anyone know what the problem is?

I was a delighted user of UPromise over twenty years. It was once a tight, sharp, relevant program. More recently, I still received cashback payments on time and began trying out their survey dashboard, where you could accumulate more funds at small scale, a dollar or fifty cents at a time. Fun if a little tedious.

One day I typed in my age for the survey screening and for some reason the digits reverted, so that as I pressed enter, the field said '1' instead of my age. A simple typo, could have gotten a warning to correct, but instead I was immediately suspended because "my data does not match my profile." From then on, I had to go through a humiliating identity recognition process involving state of the art AI camera techniques from my phone and a host of other dumbass things so I could retrieve access to an account I have used for 20 years. Even the so-called customer service rep I was "talking" to was AI. There were no human beings involved.

I gave up, and my account is closed. Luckily I only lost $10 because the account sweeps to my own savings account instead of a 529 tied to them. Good riddance.

Thieves
April 9, 2020

We had opened an account under his name for my daughter when she was born, after my ex husband passed away I had to obtain a lawyer to transfer the account to me because even thought the designated beneficiary was my daughter they wanted the trustee to approve if and even after we had the trustee approve it they still gave us a hard time and they have not as of now transferred the money to us. It is not a surprise to me they have such low ratings. I spent 5000 dollar on this so far.

I have been a member since 2000 and until a few weeks ago have been very happy with them. I can no longer get into my account which means I can't shop through their website and no longer earn dollars. I have sent emails and all I get is an email saying I need to enable cookies on my computer. That is not the problem. I have friends and family members that are having the same problem. When trying to login I keep getting the message "email address and password don't match". I change the password and get the same message. There is definitely a problem with the Upromise website.
